Made the Grade: Denali Heat Series, Book 1

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 398 KB | Release Date: August 2010 | Publisher: Samhain Publishing

"Arctic Shift" [Denali Heat Series, Book 1] by Lissa Matthews

My Book Summary : Ruby is a city girl and happy to be one, but she gets thrown into the Alaskan wilderness trying to find her sister. What she doesn't know is that her sister has taken up with a local who just happens to be a shifter. But the real reason that Ruby's sister has been MIA is because she knows that if she was after a while Ruby would come looking for her, and in doing so Ruby would meet her new man's brother, named Carson, who happens to feel like Ruby is his mate just like Ruby's sister is his brother's mate. Once the two meet the only thing that Carson has to prove now is his feelings for her, before Ruby decides that she's had enough of nature.

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars. It was better then I hoped but towards the end of the story it kinda dropped off it's good momentum. So, it made me wish it turned out better. Though I really did like Ruby and Carson as a couple. And I thought that the story of Carson's heritage was very unique and creative aspect that the author came up with.

So if you like hot romances --- CHECK IT OUT!

Book Teaser(s) :
"What did your mom mean by ease up?"
"It's not often new people are brought here and we've had two, first Melanie and now you. It always makes the family a little nervous and extra vigilant until we're sure the newcomers are not here to harm or expose us."
She could understand that and expected they weren't very trusting right up front. To let outsiders in meant a risk. It would be a burden on anyone, knowing they had a secret they could never share. ~ within Chapter 6

"Wicked Bad" [Wicked³ Series, Book 2] by R. G. Alexander

My Book Summary : Harrison has wanted to be normal for as long as she could remember, since being the most powerful witch holding onto the Abbot legacy can be too much to live up to sometimes. But when she attends her first Triune (a celebration/party where she is hopefully going to find the matches in her triad), she not only finds her sexy matches but also finds that one of the wishes to have nothing to do with her, after hearing the gossip about her. So, she walks away from them and makes plans to stay out of the Magian world for a while and be human.

Three months later, while working at a dinner she finds being human is harder then it looked, and even though she's happy she did it she finds herself missing her family, friends, and her magic. But going home means the possibility of running into her triad matches and she really doesn't want to take that chance. Yet, later that night it seems fate decides to step in, since she gets attacked by an unseen foe and saved by the ones she was trying to stay away from.

Now that they are in her life, will she be able to escape them again ... or will she even want to leave them?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars, this book was cute and HOT all rolled up together! Jacob and Ric (the guys in Harrison's triad) are such complete opposites that you cannot help but fall for each of them. Plus the plot worked out well with the first book in this series, while leading up to the following book that I believe will be staring Harrison's younger brother Lorie and their cousin Conway with their mystery girl (hopefully it'll be as good as the first two).

My Previous Review(s) for this Series : Book 1

My Previous Review(s) for this Author : My Shifter Showmance | Regina in the Sun | Twilight Guardian

Book Teaser(s) :
"Something did happen to me. I've been attacked, nearly frozen into an ice sculpture by some random Magian psycho, not that anyone seems to care." She glared pointedly at Jacob. "Tricked into taking a morph home and finally kidnapped and taken to South America." And after this last episode, she was getting the distinct impression that her brother was in danger. Maybe from the same person who'd come after her. She needed to talk to Conway. "I need my phone. Please, it's important."
A muscle in Jacob's jaw twitched. "As your match, the issue of your well being is our priority. The person who attacked you will not do so again."
Ric made a noise, as if he had something to add, but a look from Jacob silenced him. ~ within Chapter 4

Review: Prom Nights from Hell by Stephenie Meyer, Kim Harrison, Meg Cabot, Lauren Myracle, & Michele Jaffe

Format: Paperback | Pages: 304 | Release Date: April 2007 | Publisher: HarperTeen

"The Exterminator's Daughter" [within Prom Nights from Hell] by Meg Cabot

Pages: 48

My Book Summary : Mary is the daughter of an "exterminator," someone who kills anything that is evil and goes "bump" in the night. However, she never expected to have one of those "things" going after her only friend and she won't let it get away with doing so. So, she plans on killing him before things get worse .... but then .... it get's worse. =0/

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars. It was cute. And I really enjoyed reading the story from the different perspectives of Mary & Adam. =0)

My Previous Review(s) for this Author : Avalon High | Ready or Not | Victoria and the Rogue

Book Teaser :
"Lila," I snap. "Shut up. Ted's right. You don't even know the guy. Because if you did, you'd never call him gentle."
"But he is," Lila insists, the glitter in her eyes fading to a warm glow. "You don't even know---"
A second later--I'm not even sure how it happened--I have her by the shoulders, and I'm shaking her. She's six inches taller than me and outweighs me by a good forty pounds.
But that doesn't matter. ~ within Chapter 3

"The Corsage" [within Prom Nights from Hell] by Lauren Myracle

Pages: 38

My Book Summary : Frankie and her friends go to a psychic to see what is in store for them. While there, they find out that the psychic is a little--okay really--weird, but before they leave Frankie notices a corsage that she really likes, so she asks about it, then asks if she can have it. The thing though about the corsage is that it’s cursed, and the psychic said that the person who had it before her was able to make three wishes on it, and they all came true ... which makes Frankie want it even more. However, just because the wishes may come true ... still doesn’t mean that they will turn out to be what she wants to happen.

My Book Review : 1 out of 5 stars. In truth I skimmed this one since it really didn't grab my interest at first. However, what I did read of it does make it feel like a scary story .... and not my usual type of reading ... but those who like the "horror" themes might like this one more so then I did.

Book Teaser :
"Is that a skull?" I asked Will.
Will whistled. "Holy cannoli."
"Okey-doke," Yun Sun said, averting her eyes. "If there really is a skull, I don't want to know about it. Can we leave now?"
I took her head in my hands and pointed her in the right direction. "Look. It still has hair!" ~ within the first few pages

"Madison Avery and the Dim Reaper" [within Prom Nights from Hell] by Kim Harrison

Pages: 60

My Book Summary : Madison recently got sent to live with her father and went from being the high school cool girl to her new high school's zero girl. However, she really didn't realize how bad it was until she was at her new schools prom and found out she was there with a guy as a pity date. OUCH! So, when she plans on going home and finds the hot guy wanting to dance with her instead, she plans on making the other guy find out what he missed. But when she gets into this new guy's car, she finds that there might be more going on then what she originally thought.

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars. I really got into this story and now it makes me curious as to what happens within the series that this author has with this character!! Definitely gotta check this one out!

Book Teaser :
Josh was watching me when I glanced up. The guy with him was trying to get his attention, but Josh's eyes were on mine. Mocking me.
That did it. No way was I going to call my dad. And I wasn't getting into a car with Josh, either. I'd walk it. All five miles. In heels. And a long cotton dress. On a damp April night. With my boobs scrunched together. What was the worst that could happen? ~ within Chapter 1
Teaser #2

"Kiss and Tell" [within Prom Nights from Hell] by Michele Jaffe

Pages: 85

My Book Summary : Miranda lives in a boarding school where her only really friend is her roommate Kenzi. But during her days off (Wednesday & Saturday nights) she either is apart of her roller derby team or working at her jobs as a town car driver. However, ever since she was 10 years old, she has been "hiding in plain sight" trying to hide who she really is and her special powers. But when her latest pick-up assignment is a 14-year-old girl and the drop-off location is a bit shady, she can't just leave her there. So, Miranda makes plans to get the girl out of the situation she's in and protect her .... but how can she do that when she has no idea where to take her?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars. This story was about a super-powered girl (kinda like Jamie in 'Being Jamie Baker') who is still coming into her own and trying to do what's right, all without getting caught. It was better then I expected!

Book Teaser :
Miranda agreed to let Sibby order her own at the drive-through, then regretted it when she heard the girl saying to the guy taking the order, "Do I get a discount if I let you kiss me?"
"Okay, seriously, were you raised on Crazycake? Why do you want to kiss all these guys you don't even know?" Miranda asked.
"There aren't many boys where I come from. And what does knowing them have to do with it? Kissing is great. I kissed four boys on the airplane. I'm hoping to make it twenty-five before the end of the day." ~ within Chapter 4

"Hell on Earth" [within Prom Nights from Hell] by Stephenie Meyer

Pages: 53

My Book Summary : It's prom night and it seems that everyone is having a lousy time. What they don't know is that there is a demon amongst them, named Sheba, and has plans to make everyone miserable before the night is through, so she'll be able to become a higher ranking demon. And little does she know that there is one person at the prom who doesn't know what he really is, and that he has the ability to completely throw off her game.

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars. Really not what I was expecting from this author but still really good! It would be great if she would write more books about this world, since I would really be interested seeing as to where it could go. =0)

Book Teaser :
"I couldn't say," Gabe admitted. "Have you seen her?"
Logan pursed his full lips for a minute, as if debating whether or not to say something. He ran a hand nervously across his springy black hair. "Well, I thought I did. I'm not exactly sure, though. . . .She's wearing a white dress, right?"
"Yeah---where is she?"
"I think I saw her in the lobby. Can't be positive. Her face was sort of hard to see....David Alvarado's face was all over it...."
"David Alvarado?" Gabe repeated in surprise. "Not Heath McKenzie?" ~ within the only Chapter

Format: Paperback | Pages: 353 | Release Date: June 2010 | Publisher: Bluefields

"Being Jamie Baker" by Kelly Oram ( I read this as a part of We Love YA! A young adult arc tour site)

My Book Summary : A year and a half ago, Jamie was in an accident that changed her life forever, turning her into a superhuman. She has super-speed, super-hearing, and more!! But out of fear that this secret will get out she has made it a point in trying to avoid relationships with everyone, except her parents, and even though she is one of the hottest girls in school, this has made her an outcast. Or as she likes the title the Ice Queen.

However, after receiving a dared kiss from Ryan, her high school's star quarterback, and her world changes yet again. Because as much as she would like to keep that distance between Ryan and herself, he seems to knock down all of her defenses as soon as she puts them up. But when he gets to close to the truth, will he spill her secret or change her world yet again?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! Jamie and Ryan keep you on your toes in this novel, that is more sci-fi comic then anything, from Jamie's battles with being herself to admitting to things that have happened in her past that she hadn't been able to deal with before Ryan came into her life. They make a VERY cute couple! I can definitely see this becoming a series to really get into, so if the author writes a sequel I will definitely be getting a copy!

    Book Teaser(s) :
    "What?"
    "Let's do it again!"
If my face was pale before, now it was white as a ghost, and Ryan laughed at my expression. "I don't mean the whole getting zapped part," he said. "Though I always wondered what it would feel like to get Tasered. FYI? It sucks. But you are seriously the best kisser in the entire world. So worth it. And did you see that? For a minute I was strong like you!"
Ryan grunted as he got to his feet. After stretching all his stiff muscles, he stepped toward me with open arms.
"Are you suicidal?" I screamed, putting a good twenty feet between us instantly. ~ within Chapter 15

Format: Paperback | Pages: 167 | Release Date: June 2010 | Publisher: Egmont

"things i know about love" by Kate le Vann ( I read this as a part of We Love YA! A young adult arc tour site)

My Book Summary : Livia has had a tough hand in life and in love. When she was in her early teens, she was diagnosed with leukemia, thus little time for the things that gave her a broader social life. Then during the times she did have a boyfriend, once things got worse with her disease they seem to go running for the hills.

Now during the summer after she passed her sixth year, Livia plans to visit her older brother while he is at Princeton University. During her time, there she hopes to have a summer fling and find the truth about love or at least get a better understanding about what she knows about it. Once there she starts a private blog to document her summer and analyze what happened in her previous relationships to see if that can help her find out about her future.

She finds that she likes America ... it's fun, and almost completely different then what she's used to. Plus, she takes an interest in her older brother's friend Adam, who just happens to be British too. Could this be whom she chooses as her summer fling?

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars, WOW just wow!!! The beginning of this story really didn't pull me in but I'm glad that I stuck with it since I fell in love with Livia, Adam and her brother. They were all great characters. And I'm soo happy that you get to read Adam's blog along with Livia's.

Warning -- YOU WILL NEED TISSUES!

    Book Teaser(s) :
I gasped theatrically, pretending to be horrified that he hadn't forgiven me. "You can trust me now!" I squeaked. "We're both adults. I'm nearly eighteen, remember? I can vote soon."

"Ha! Well! As it happens, I have already made plans to find out who the Home Secretary is. And the Foreign Secretary."
"Oh, you're right," Jeff mocked, "the country is safe in your hands. It's good that you didn't waste all that time when you were stuck in hospital. And, how about naming the Star Trek movies, in order?"
"One: The Motion Picture, Two: The Wrath of Khan, Three: The Search for Spock....Just because I know this doesn't mean I don't know important polit---"
