Made the Grade: The Souvenir by Emma Nichols

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 359 KB | Release Date: October 3, 2016 | Publisher: Self-Published | Obtained: Amazon

"The Souvenir" by Emma Nichols

Author's Book Description : Bestselling author Emma Nichols presents a new adult contemporary romance fans and critics are comparing to works of Jennifer Weiner. Snark and heart make The Souvenir a novel that will leave readers desperate for more.

Wren Jacobs—a twenty-something corporate trainer—would like to announce the birth of her baby, Taylor, named after the artist singing "Bad Blood" during the conception. Mother and child are adjusting nicely and ready to welcome visitors, especially the father, Brady Conner.

Despite a few too many misunderstandings, Wren never stopped loving Brady…and would love the opportunity to thank him for her souvenir from their relationship who weighed in at a whopping 8lbs 5oz, effectively ruining her after an unintentional natural delivery. Taylor's birth will forever remind Wren of the first day of summer, the last time she was ever able to wear a bikini, and that she'll probably never go to a bar again.

Follow Wren and Brady as they navigate through the tricky dating scene in this touching romantic comedy, and fall in love with the souvenir of their relationship.

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars. Wren and Brady have been dating and living together for a while, and Brady messes that up by letting his insecurities and an ex-girlfriend of his get between them. Can Wren and Brady overcome everything to be able to get back together with one another? Or will friends and exes get in the way and assist their relationship in falling apart?

If the last two chapters weren’t as good as they were, you would be reading a major rant right about now. I mean I understand Wren’s fears about her relationship with Brady and why she wanted to move out of their/his house, which inevitably distanced herself from him. I get it. So, please do not take this wrong. But reading about how she spent her whole pregnancy using one excuse or another to not tell Brady about their baby REALLY irked me. I have a different perspective then most on the instance of children being raised by single mothers, while I support them wholeheartedly (as my mother was one for many years) I feel the man (if he’s technically a good guy) has the right to know and choose whether or not to be a part of his child’s life. I know it can be hard because of how relationship may end (like Wren and Brady’s did) but if you don’t tell the father then you hurt your child and you don’t get to see the possibility of how good a guy he could turn out to be for his child. Even though I know not all guys are great, I still think they have the right to know.

Therefore, because of my beliefs, it was very hard for me to appreciate the middle part of this novel. In addition, it did NOT help that Wren’s best friend Jasmine kept assisting to create distance between Wren and Brady. Jasmine did this because she wanted what was best for herself by having Wren move in with her. Yes I feel Jasmine did want what was best for Wren too but because of her own personal issues with Brady as soon as something went wrong between Wren and Brady, Jasmine used that to inform Wren she just needed to stay away all together. It was very annoying. Even though I know that this is how most female friendships work (hey, I am a female) it was just grating to see Jasmine trying to support Wren in ways that I didn’t feel were assisting Wren at all. And I would LOVE to be a fly on the wall when Wren informs Jasmine of the new changes in her life that take place in the last chapter, as I don’t think Jasmine will be too happy about them. *sigh*

I really did not want to rant. I’m sorry. While this novel was not what I expected or hoped for I appreciated the transformations that both Wren and Brady go through throughout this novel. I do feel Wren and Brady were made for each other. Yet, they were both too stubborn to see through their pride and reconcile sooner. The best thing I can say about this novel is I LOVED Wren and Brady’s banter.

Overall, I DO recommend this novel. It was sweet and charming when it wanted to be. Also, I enjoyed Trey tremendously! I feel this novel is for those looking for an unplanned pregnancy romance and/or an unexpected women’s fiction.

Her brow furrowed. "Were you supposed to go to CMC?"
"No. I'm supposed to be at Baskin Robbins!" The realization of my situation made me cry even harder.

Made the Grade: Shifters of the Primus Series, Book 1

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon: Kindle Edition - File Size: 6990 KB | Expected Release Date: July 2, 2016 | Publisher: Self-Published | Obtained: instafreebie

"Rebel Kato" [Shifters of the Primus Series, Book 1] by Elyssa Ebbott

Author's Book Description : He takes what he wants. And he wants me.

When we run out of fuel hundreds of light years from Earth, our only hope is a nearby planet. There’s just one problem: it’s home to the most savage aliens in the galaxy.

But when the Primus warriors board our ship, they haven’t come to take all of us. Their prince just wants me. And it’s up to me to prove that humans make worthy mates to these dominant alien warriors…or else.

Kato is a deadly alpha shifter with shimmering golden skin and a tendency to leave bodies in his wake. He’s dangerous and has an ego as big as his golden spear. But does he just want a few nights of passion, or a woman to call his princess?

When murderous factions try to keep us apart, I will have more to worry about than just surviving the irresistible prince’s touch. I must choose between the danger of being beside him or the certain death that awaits outside his protection.

He has protected me so far. But when his king demands my death, will my prince rebel against his own people to save me?

Rebel Kato is the first book in the Shifters of the Primus series, but it can be read as a standalone. Each book in this science fiction series has a happily ever after and no cliffhangers, guaranteed.

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars. This is a powerful sci-fi erotica, that could be action-paced one moment, sweet in another, and then very lustful without any effort. While it has an intriguing setup, it was the dialogue that didn't win me over as I'd have liked it too.

Nevertheless, I would still recommend it.

Purchase This Book and/or The Other Books From It's Series Here :

Amazon (Kindle) USD : Rebel Kato (Book 1)

Amazon (Kindle) USD : Rebel Pax (Book 2)

Amazon (Kindle) USD : Rebel Gage (Book 3)

Blog Tour - Fall With Me by Jayne Frost | Book Release Day & Spreading the Word

Releasing December 15th, "FALL WITH ME" brings readers more of the sultry hot rockers that you love from Jayne Frost's Sixth Street Bands Series, along with a healthy dose of steamy romance with some laughs on the side. Also, don’t forget to check out the cover art by none other than Judi Perkins at Concierge Literary Designs.

As the bassist for the band Caged, the last three years have been one, long non-stop party. Sure, I’ve had some regrets. Everyone does. But getting trapped in a relationship isn’t one of them. I know good and well what happens when the attraction fades. I’ve seen it first hand. Love is a zero sum game, so why play? As long as I'm upfront about my feelings, no one gets hurt. Besides, I'm never in one place long enough to worry about tomorrow.

That is, until the band decided to take an extended hiatus in our hometown. That’s when I met Melody Sullivan. She’s the full-package. Whip smart and beautiful, with enough determination to take on anything life has in store. And the best part? Melody shares my philosophy on the fleeting nature of attraction. She doesn’t buy into the whole “happily ever after” crap anymore than I do. We’re perfect for each other. For now. And now is all I want.

With the expectations off the table, I can let my guard down and enjoy her company until the spark dies. And we both know it will. In a week, or a month. But until then, we’ll just keep having fun. The good kind, with lots of sex and no strings attached. And when it’s time to move on, we will. No drawn out goodbyes and no remorse.

That’s the plan, at least.

Pinning Mel to the cinder block wall in her tiny living room, I kissed her deeply, my fingers creeping under the hem of her blouse. She sighed, the back of her head bumping against the concrete as I palmed her breast.

“Fuck…sorry.” My hand disappeared into her blond locks, searching for a lump. “Are you all right?”

The girl had me so revved up I was ready to take her right here, inches from her front door.

Resting her palm against my chest, she laughed softly. “No permanent damage. I’ve got a hard head.”

Mel was hardheaded, all right. And smart. Not to mention sexy as hell.

Slipping out of my arms, she headed for the kitchen before I could devour her mouth again. I bit my lip when she ducked her head into the fridge, wiggling her ass as she poked around.

“Would you like something to drink? I’ve got water and…” She walked back with two bottles of Dasani. “Water.”

“Water’s fine.”

Twisting the cap off the bottle, I looked around the tiny apartment. Mel’s place was as bare bones as it got. Campus housing with concrete walls and worn carpet. Her entire kitchen would fit in the guest bathroom at my house.

Sinking onto the arm of the recliner, Mel snagged her lip between her teeth. “I’ve never had a one-nighter,” she admitted, like it was a bad thing. “So you’re going to have to tell me how this goes.”

Shifting my gaze to the large calendar on the wall in her dining room, I glanced over the neat stack of books on the table below. The girl was organized—OCD style—which was refreshing. But the fact that she was already planning for my imminent departure unnerved me.

Closing the gap between us, I twirled a lock of her hair around my finger. “It goes the way it goes, angel. The only thing set in stone is your breakfast. Eggs, right?”

She looked up, the sparkle in her eyes faint at best. “I’m not expecting you to be here in the morning, Christian. We both know what this is. I’ve heard all the rumors. I’m not naïve, you know?”

I pulled away out of sheer reflex. All night long we were just Christian and Mel. My celebrity was barely mentioned. Hell, she didn’t even pump me for information about the band.

After a moment, I eased onto the chair.

“Really?” I slid her onto my lap. “What have you heard about me? I’m dying to know.”

Staring at the bottle in her hand, her fingernail skated over the label. “The usual. Oversexed rocker. Never in one place more than a night.”

Tucking a finger under her chin, I tilted her face until our gazes met.

“I’ve been in Austin for months, so you shouldn’t believe everything you hear.”

Her expression indicated she saw through my halfhearted attempt to address the rumors. I may have been in the same city, but that didn’t mean I was in the same bed. A Google search would turn up dozens of pictures to prove the point.

Mel slipped her arms around my neck. “I’m just letting you know that I get it. Guys like you don’t date—they fuck.” She fought to keep her smile. “And breakfast isn’t usually part of the deal.”

I tightened my grip on her waist, my thumb skimming the smooth skin above the waistband of her jeans. Conversations like this weren’t usually unnecessary. The chicks I hung out with knew the score. Hell, they were fine with it. No truths exchanged beyond the basics: hotel or tour bus, and where should the cab drop you off when we’re finished.

But Mel wasn’t like that. She spent her time in libraries, not waiting behind rope lines hoping to get my attention.

Taking her hand, I blew out a breath. “I’ve been on the road for four years. It’s a little hard to plan breakfast when you don’t know what city you’ll be come morning. But I can’t blame it all on my lifestyle. From a strictly biological standpoint, you know, attraction fades as soon as the hormone rush is over. Pheromones and all that.” Chancing a peek at her face, I found her nodding in agreement, her green eyes glued to mine. I smiled, tracing a finger over the curve of her jaw. “I’m not saying I’m opposed to a repeat performance. I just don’t believe in making promises I can’t keep.”

Realization slammed me in the chest as she mulled over my declaration. Despite the passionate kiss at the door, Mel wasn’t a sure thing. She could ask me to leave. Hell, she might.

I held my breath as she shoved to her feet.

Propping a hand on her hip, she studied me for a long moment. “But you will be making me breakfast…is that what I’m hearing?”

Not quite a question, but a statement of fact. And one I’d gladly agree to if it meant a night in her bed.

“You can bet on it, angel.”

I stood with the intention of capturing her mouth.

Instead, Mel entwined our fingers and said, “Cool. I think I’ll take you to bed now.”

Book 1
As the guitarist for the rock band Caged, I know the rules: no relationships. No complications. Leave ‘em willing when you go, but always go. Besides, it’s not like I’m ever in one place for more than a few days at a time. As the next hottest thing out of Austin, the band and me are riding the wave, and the music is all that matters.

Until her…

Lily Tennison has “complication” written across her beautiful face. But I can’t get involved. The timing’s all wrong. But she’s under my skin, and I can’t resist her troubled eyes and sweet smile. And I do have a little time to kill. Not much, just a few days in Dallas.

So I’ll scratch the itch and move on, like I always do.

Simple, right?

So…Who is Jayne?

As a writer you would think that would be a simple question…but it’s not. I spend so much time living in my characters heads, listening to their voices, that sometimes I forget about my own.

I guess I should start with the basics: the backstory. I was born and raised in California. At this point, I’m usually asked what it was like to grow up near the beach, but sadly, I don’t know. I grew up in the “other” part of California. Perfect for an aspiring writer, if you ask me. You learn a lot about keeping yourself busy when the nearest house is a mile away…and it belongs to your grandparents.

I spent all my time with my nose in a book, living vicariously through the characters, until I wrote a book of my own. I was ten at the time. It was a scintillating piece that cast the family pet as the protagonist.

By the time I went to high school, I moved on to romance. Why? Because I met my very own prince charming. I wrote love poems in my journal about the green-eyed boy who stole my heart. He promised, the way all storybook heroes do, to sweep me away and take me on a grand adventure. And he did.

We picked up and moved to the Lone Star State and began the story of us. The best stories begin without a road map or a compass. Veering off course makes the journey so much more interesting.

True to form, just when I thought my life was set, we started the next adventure. I traded in my cowboy boots and followed my green-eyed boy to Las Vegas. My home will always be in Texas, but my heart is anywhere that he is. Our beautiful daughter made the journey with us. Our son stayed in Texas, to write his own story.

Somehow, in the midst of the chaos that is our life, I find time to write. Writing is what I love. I might stray from romance every now and then if that is what moves me…but I always come back. Some of the stories don’t seem romantic at all. They are gritty stories about flawed characters that find each other and hold on tight. Those are the stories that speak to me. Because that’s life. I believe that every story should have a happy ending—even the difficult ones.

Blog Tour - Sweet Southern Bad Boy by Michele Summers | Interview, Spreading the Word, & Novel Giveaway

Today I'm showing off Michele Summers' "Sweet Southern Bad Boy," which is her recently released novel, the THIRD novel in her Harmony Homecomings Series, and the novel I recently interviewed her about!

ALSO -- Be sure to check out the Gleam contest at the bottom of this post to be able to sign up for this blog tour's GIVEAWAY!! [Promotion for this post and its Giveaway will run from December 5 - 26, 2016]

My Q&A with Michele Summers :

Jess : What sparked the idea for "Sweet Southern Bad Boy?"

Michele : I think it first started with the kids, because I’d been dealing a lot with my own active kids and my sister’s five boys. And I thought it’d be funny to see how two people with no children handle the situation.

Jess : Which of your characters would you invite or not invite to dinner?

Michele : I’d most likely invite Bertie from "Find My Way Home" to dinner because we’re both interior designers and collector of great shoes; we’d have lots to talk about. And I like her eclectic style…reminds me a lot of me! 😉 And I’d probably not invite Lucy from "Not So New In Town" because she’d get me in tons of trouble eating junk food! I wouldn’t be able to resist Cheetos and M&M’s, some of her favorites.

Jess : Which comes first for me the character’s story or the idea for the novel?

Michele : Hmmm, I think character’s story comes first. Some wacky idea will hit me about a personality quirk or a “what if” scenario and I’ll run with it and build a story around that character.

Jess : Are there any differences and/or similarities between Vance from "Sweet Southern Bad Boy" and Brogan from "Not So New In Town?"

Michele : Both are very competitive and athletic. Both have strong personalities and both played high school football together and remained close friends. Brogan was a nicer more approachable guy in high school whereas Vance was a bit on the wild side. And Brogan figured out a way to make a living with his healthy lifestyle while Vance became a writer to right some wrongs from his past.

Jess : Favorite part to write in a novel...

Michele : Hands down: the dialogue. I love to write the banter between the Hero and the Heroine or even between the best friends. If it were up to me, my books would be nothing but running dialogue with no reference to setting, time or place.

Jess : Favorite secondary characters...

Michele : My top two favorite secondary characters are Dottie Duncan, the meddling wealthy owner of the Toot-N-Tell, because she’s always butting in everyone’s business with her no-nonsense approach. She tells it like it is. And then I’d have to say Clancy Perry, the redneck tree trimmer who’s always trying to horn in and steal the heroines out from under the heroes’ noses. He was just so darn fun to write.

Jess : How many books have you written?

Michele : I’ve written four books and have to say SSBB is my all-time favorite. I still think about Vance and Katie. I loved their chemistry and the situation of taking care of those kids. They tugged at my heartstrings and made me laugh at the same time.

Jess : And other projects in the works?

Michele : Yes, I’m working on a fun series set in Miami where I lived for over 20 years. It’s centered around three brothers, all athletes in different stages of their careers and how they find love in women who are basically their complete opposites.

Jess : Favorite aspect of the holidays:

Michele : My favorite part of the holidays is time off. I love the few days before and after when everything is already prepared…or not, where we all sit around and enjoy each other’s company. Time off from work and obligations. It’s the only time I actually slow down and rest.

Jess : Cartoon character that represents your personal philosophy?

Michele : Okay, I’m not sure if this counts, but I’d have to say Belle from Beauty and the Beast, because it’s my favorite Disney fairy tale and because she was smart and did the right thing. And she ended up with the prince in the end! Perfect.

Jess : If someone wrote a biography about me, what would the title be?

Michele : "Finding Humor…amongst the crazies!"

"Sweet Southern Bad Boy"
[Harmony Homecomings Series, Book 3] by Michele Summers

Author's Book Description :
Katie McKnight loves her job. Not really. But Katie loves her dad and this job means everything to him. Which is why she's scouting for the perfect house to film a mini-series…and that house happens to be in Harmony, NC. Now if only Katie can convince the grouchy, disheveled but totally hunky owner his home is perfect for the next teen craze, she’ll be in business.

Bestselling author, Vance Kerner has lost his mind along with his loafers and the notes to his next novel, under dirty dishes in his kitchen. Since babysitting his brother’s three kids, he hasn’t found a moments peace. So when California Katie knocks on his door, Vance doesn’t ask questions. He simply yanks her inside and puts her in charge.

Katie agrees to babysit, if Vance allows the film crew access to his property. Vance agrees to keep an open mind as long as he gets the peace he needs to write.

But having Katie underfoot is anything but peaceful. And Vance is finding less and less time to write and more and more time to watch Katie weave a lovely spell on all the Kerners...especially him.

Can these two opposites find a common ground and the love they both deserve?
