Feasted On: Her Stepbrothers Are Demons by Trinity Blacio

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon: Kindle Edition - File Size: 301 KB | Expected Release Date: September 24, 2015 | Publisher: Riverdale Avenue Books | Obtained: NetGalley

"Her Stepbrothers Are Demons" by Trinity Blacio (aka Maria MoonStar)

Author's Book Description : Alex Cander had her life all planned out – mom married off, check. Police academy graduation (all done in secret) – double check. Assigned to one of the biggest cases in her county – triple check.

Yet Alex knew this smooth ride couldn’t last long.

Sure enough all hell breaks loose, literally, when her stepfather asks her to help his sons get acquainted to their surroundings. Not only were her supposed stepbrothers claiming her as theirs, but it turns out they are demons. On top of this, she learns that her own grandparents weren’t even human?

And that’s no even the half of it!

A being called Darkness has stepped forward claiming her as well. Now she is mated to three demons that not only control her every movement, but also her heart…someone pinch her please.

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! Alexandra (Alex) is used to being the one to look out for her family and friends. But suddenly after her mother remarries, Alex finds her new stepbrothers taking over her life and her hard-earned independence. When their secret comes out and she also learns that another plans to claim her too, will she be able to take it all in stride or will everything finally fall apart?

I LOVED how this "Her Stepbrothers Are..." from Ms. Blacio had such a cohesive beginning, middle, and ending!! It was all endearing, suspenseful, and seductive that I didn't want it to end, while also appreciating how it all was wrapped up! This is definitely my favorite novel from this world thus far!

When it came to Alex and her men, I liked how their stories all intertwine and how their relationship built on itself even though it was rushed. Alex is a strong-willed woman with a soft heart, which makes her the perfect counterpart to Zain (Darkness), Darren, & Tork's restless "demonic" ways. All of the men were great in their own ways. I love reading about charming possessive men, and these three had that in spades! I just wish I could have read from Tork's POV like we could from the other three main characters. *shrug*

I DO recommend this novel to those looking for a fast-paced erotic paranormal (slightly sci-fi) romance!

If she was to tell the truth, Alex loved their touches. The way their fingers brushed down her arms, or when they took her hand and just held it.
She shook her head. "I'm sorry, what did you say?"
Darren grinned, "I asked if you knew what we did, like our jobs?"
"No, and wipe off that grin. I can't help it if the two of you have my body doing the hormonal jig," she grumbled and squirmed as they both stared down at her. ~ within Chapter 2

My Q&A with Cheryl Brooks :

Jess : What books did you enjoy reading while growing up?

Cheryl : I read a lot as a kid, mostly Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden books. I also loved reading any kind of horse story and anything by Mary Stewart and Georgette Heyer that I could get my hands on. I credit Mary Stewart for my affinity for writing in first person.

Jess : Please describe Wyatt from "Must Love Cowboys" in 1-2 sentences.

Cheryl : Wyatt McCabe is one of those tortured alpha heroes that have such a strong appeal for romance readers. His past keeps him from letting himself get close to anyone for fear of losing them, but his attraction to Tina is such that he can’t deny it.

Jess : Are there any differences and/or similarities between Tina from "Must Love Cowboys" and Lauren from your novella "Cowboy Delight?"

Cheryl : Obviously, they’re both single women, but there are probably more differences between the two than there are similarities. Lauren had never felt the spark of attraction for a man, and Tina had been too shy and nervous to act on it when she did. Tina has never considered herself to be very attractive, whereas most of Lauren’s problems stemmed from being too attractive.

Jess : What sparked the idea for "Must Love Cowboys?"

Cheryl : I have a friend who loves firefighters, and even though I was writing a series about cowboys, I saw my chance to at least make one of the heroes a former firefighter. Wyatt’s character developed out of an idea about his past and why he gave up firefighting to become a cowboy. When I pitched the idea of his character to one of my RWA chapter’s speakers, her response was that his perfect match would have to be Amish or someone equally pure, and Tina’s character developed out of that suggestion.

Jess : What is the funniest thing one of your characters in "Must Love Cowboys" said or did?

Cheryl : That would be telling! Besides, I don’t know for sure, but it was probably something Bull or Dean did. They were both great fun to write.

Jess : If you could write "Must Love Cowboys" all over again, would you change anything about it?

Cheryl : Not really. It was originally written as an erotic romance, so I’ve already changed it to fit the current genre. If you’ve read the book, I think you can guess who Tina’s other sexual partner was.

Jess : Out of all the secondary characters in "Must Love Cowboys," do you have one or two favorites? If so, who are they and why?

Cheryl : I loved writing all of them, but Bull Russell and Nick Reno were the most fun. Anytime I get the opportunity, I throw in at least one outrageous character, and in this series, Bull is that character. If you know your Georgette Heyer novels, you’ll understand where that idea came from. Nick was also a fun character. He didn’t have much of a filter on his speech, but his personality is endearing enough that you don’t care when he speaks his mind. Dean is another favorite of mine. He—oh, who am I kidding? I love them all!

Jess : Which is your favorite book that you’ve written and why?

Cheryl : The book I’m currently writing is usually my favorite, although I still have a soft spot for "Rebel," book ten of the Cat Star Chronicles. Onca was one of those outspoken, outrageous heroes, and I love him to pieces!

Jess : Do you have any other projects in the works?

Cheryl : I’m working on a contemporary paranormal romantic suspense trilogy, which is taking forever because of all the research that writing it has required. I’ve finished the first two books and as soon as this blog tour is over, I’ll start on the third. No telling when or how the series will be published. After that, I plan to write a “second generation” Cat Star book.

Jess : YAY!! About the possibility of another Cat Star Series!! *BIG SMILES OVER HERE* Thank you for joining me!! =0)

Blog Tour - I Dream of Dragons by Ashlyn Chase | Interview, Spreading the Word, & ARC Novel Giveaway

Today I'm showing off Ashlyn Chase's "I Dream of Dragons," which is her soon-to-be released novel, the FIRST novel in her Boston Dragons Series (a spin-off from Flirting With Fangs Series), and the novel I recently interviewed her about!

ALSO -- Be sure to check out Rafflecopter at the bottom of this post to be able to sign up for this blog stop's GIVEAWAY(s)!! [Blog Tour will run from March 28 - April 3, 2016]

My Q&A with Ashlyn Chase :

Jess : Please describe Rory, from "I Dream of Dragons," in one to two sentences.

Ashlyn : Rory Arish is the oldest of three siblings from Ireland. He’s handsome, charming, and very protective of his two younger sisters…even though they insist they can protect themselves.

Jess : Which of your characters would you most & least like to invite to dinner, from which book and why?

Ashlyn : I would love to invite Rory to dinner, just to listen to his Irish accent, and perhaps have him play his instruments that he uses in the family’s Irish folk band. For that matter I’d like to have all three of the Irish siblings.

The character I would least like to have dinner with, is Aiden Arish. He’s the hotheaded cousin from Northern Ireland. He and Chloe actually get into a knockdown drag out fight on the front lawn of the Castle in Ireland. That was fun to write, although they were both in the wrong.

Jess : Which usually comes first for you, the character(s) story or the idea for the novel?

Ashlyn : I’d have to say the idea for the story, sometimes called the plot bunny, will hop around in my head first, then I write my character sketches, and finally, I come up with a blurb and go from there.

Jess : Is there any differences and/or similarities between Amber from your "I Dream of Dragons," novel and Bliss from your "How to Date a Dragon" novel?

Ashlyn : Not really. They are very different. Bliss is a blurter. She says what she thinks and the words are out of her mouth before she has a chance to stop them. Amber is used to dealing with the public and being tactful. Although her patience does have its limits. Especially when a certain charming Dragon is having fun with her and she doesn’t realize he’s teasing.

Jess : What sparked the idea for "I Dream of Dragons?"

Ashlyn : I have to admit it wasn’t my idea. My publisher wanted more Dragon books from me, and my agent talked be into it. I’m glad they did, because I love these books. And to think, they might never have happened if I had had my way and just said no.

Jess : What is the most silly things one of your characters, from "I Dream of Dragons," said or did?

Ashlyn : Probably charging down the stairway and bursting into the only vacant apartment at the same time, claiming it’s theirs, because possession is 9/10 of the law. Then they are stuck. Neither one can leave the apartment without giving it to the other.

Jess : What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write in a novel and why?

Ashlyn : My favorite is the beginning, because that’s when I’m not worried about where everything is going yet. Once I get the beginning down then I can plot the rest. Even though it’s the freedom of writing by the seat of my pants that I love best, at some point I have to stop and plot the rest in order for everything to make sense and flow smoothly. Otherwise I’d run the risk of getting lost without a map.

Jess : In regards to "I Dream of Dragons," if you could write it all over again, would you change anything about it?

Ashlyn : No. I would change the ending of, "How to Date a Dragon," however. Fans were angry about how that one ended, and I agreed with them. I actually wanted it to end the way they did, but my editor twisted my arm until I changed it. That’s another reason I was happy to write the new series. I was actually able to go back to that story and fix the ending, taking care of that at the beginning of the new story. I think fans will be pleased. Oh, and as an aside, that editor no longer works there and my new editor is wonderful!

Jess : Out of all of the secondary characters within "I Dream of Dragons," do you have one or two favorites so far? If so, who are they and can you tell us why?

Ashlyn : I love Chloe. She’s feisty, says what she thinks, and takes no prisoners. By the end of the book, she was demanding her own story be told. And that’s when I wrote "My Wild Irish Dragon." In that book we meet a whole new family that I adore, so we had to build a new series just for them. No more hints. =0)

Jess : How many books have you written? Which is your favorite and why?

Ashlyn : The honest answer is, I don’t know. I’ve lost track. Some books are no longer for sale, and some were written under a different pen name. A couple books never saw the light of day, and probably never will. But I imagine if you go to my author page on Amazon or Barnes & Noble, count the books there and double it, you might get the right number. As far as my favorite, I don’t know that either. I’m a big help, aren’t I?

Jess : Do you have any other projects in the works? If so, can you share a little of your current work with us?

Ashlyn : I have a lot of projects going at once. I’m cowriting another book with Dalton Diaz. I’ve finished a novella for a multi-author series, and my agent is shopping that now. Plus, I’m writing book 3 in my Boston Dragons Series.

Jess : Are you ready for spring? Any big plans once it arrives?

Ashlyn : I’m always ready for spring. This was a mild winter, but I love the warm weather. If I have any big plans, beyond finishing this book, it would be to re-landscape the yard. I’ve planted beautiful bushes willy-nilly, and I really should make some sense of everything out there. Think of it as editing my landscape.

Jess : What cartoon character best represents your personal philosophy?

Ashlyn : What a fun question. I love Bugs Bunny. Confident, enjoying life to the fullest, and he doesn’t apologize for any of that. I’d be a lot nicer to Elmer Fudd, however.

Jess : If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?

Ashlyn : I haven’t thought about that. I guess I’ll have to come up with something before I get wildly famous.

Made the Grade: No Mistletoe Required by Jeanette Murray

"No Mistletoe Required" by Jeanette Murray (aka Kat Murray)

Author's Book Description : Dan Beckins isn’t sure how he let his best friend con him into volunteering to build Santa’s Winter Wonderland at the local hospital. He’s got no problems with charity work, but anything Christmas-related is off-limits ever since he lost his parents on Christmas Day years ago. The only bright spot is working with smoking-hot Anna Smith.

Anna Smith loves Christmas and volunteering at the hospital is one of her yearly highlights. She had leukemia as a teen and then a breast cancer scare in her mid-twenties, and is now operating under a self-imposed rule that she can’t have a relationship until the doctors give her a clean bill of health.

A little fling might be permissible, though, and sexy lawyer-turned-carpenter Dan seems like the perfect candidate. But when chemistry flares and the two start forming a real connection, will Anna run away before like turns to love?

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars, one Ebenezer Scrooge-type of guy meets the one Holiday Cheer-filled woman who is able to turn his life upside down and show him what the spirit of Christmas is all about.

This sweetly written contemporary romance keeps you laughing the whole way through. I liked how Ms. Murray handles both Anna and Dan’s background stories, making the readers sympathize with the characters while still getting into the holiday spirit of it all! Together I found Anna and Dan to be a great pair. Plus their sex scenes were just steamy enough to keep a reader engrossed while leaving their relationship believable enough that you were rooting for them from beginning to end!

My only wish was that the ending could have been less rushed through, yet overall I DO recommend this novel to those looking for a slightly erotic sweet Christmas romance!

Dan's first few Santa visits had been touch-and-go, but the kids were so young that they didn't look past the costume to see if Santa had any actual enthusiasm for the job. With each child that left his lap with a smile, he relaxed just a little more. Joked just a little more. And after a little bit, started developing his own dramatic Santa voice and belly-deep Santa laugh. The entire thing was completely charming.
And, she had to admit to herself, more than a little erotic. The laugh and the attitude that went with it were doing things to her. And, oh God, she was totally hot for Santa. ~ within Chapter 4

"Three Little Words" [Fool's Gold Series, Book 12] by Susan Mallery

Author's Book Description : Can first love turn into the real deal?

Isabel Beebe thinks she’s cursed in the romance department. Her teenage crush, Ford Hendrix, ignored all her letters. Her husband left her for another…man. So Isabel has come home to dust off her passion for fashion and run the family bridal shop until her parents are ready to sell it. Then she’ll pursue her real dreams. At least, that’s the plan, until sexy, charming Ford returns and leaves her feeling fourteen all over again….

Seeing Isabel all grown up hits bodyguard trainer Ford like a sucker punch. Back when heartbreak made him join the military, her sweet letters kept him sane. Now he can’t take his eyes—or his lips—off her. The man who gave up on love has a reason to stay in Fool’s Gold forever—if three little words can convince Isabel to do the same….

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars! The Hendrix family is back in action in this riveting contemporary romance! Ms. Mallery does it again! From getting updates from past characters in Fool's Gold to learning about new characters moving into town, this quirky romance brings love into the lives of the last two brothers in Fool's Gold's Hendrix family, Ford & Kent. Both brothers are complete opposites and so are their love interests.

The main couple is Ford, an ex-Navy Seal who is now part owner in a new security firm in Fool's Gold, and Isabel, a woman who use to have a major crush on Ford when she was a teenager. After Ford's engagement to Isabel's older sister ended years ago and he joined the Navy Isabel wrote to him from when she's between the ages of 14 to 24, at first in hopes it was that he'll return her feelings and then over the years the letters turn into diary entries of sorts because Ford never once responds to them. What Isabel doesn't realize is that Ford has memorized those letters over the years and while he never responded to any of them, they have helped him heal over the years giving him hope. So when they both move back to town, about 14 years after Ford left Fool's Gold, Isabel is roped into a "fake" relationship because Ford doesn't want to deal with his mother's relationship schemes. But as their relationship continues and turns into something more, they have to find out if what they share is really true love or just a really good friendship (with benefits) to pass the time.

The secondary couple is Kent, a single dad and a high school math teacher, and Consuelo, an ex-special forces military personnel who is now part owner in the new security firm with Ford. They meet because Kent's son Reese is taking a martial arts class where Consuelo is his teacher. They both have an instant attraction but because of their past backgrounds, they are unsure as to how to start a relationship between them. It makes for a lot of false starts before they agree to begin something with one another, and even that is hard for them both to get into at first but once they stop letting their pasts dictate their futures everything comes together for them.

It’s hard to choose which couple I liked best as they both had their good points and annoyances at times, yet they were all wonderful characters and I really enjoyed whom they all ended up with! From the very beginning, it is easy for the readers to tell where Ford and Isabel’s storyline was going. Yet, because of how charismatic and quirky the couple is together, I was very intrigued by their HEA. While Kent and Consuelo appear to be opposites in every way, I was endeared from the beginning by their vulnerabilities that they have when it comes to building a relationship with one another. In addition, I appreciated how Kent didn’t give up easily when it came to keeping his relationship going with her and how determined he was to be the man for Consuelo no matter the cost. Everyone hooked me from the start and I’m so happy I read this novel!

The only flaw that I found in this novel was how the ending completed both their HEAs but left me feeling like there should be more, like an epilogue or something. Nevertheless, I DO recommend this novel to those who are fans of this series (like me) and/or to those looking for a charming contemporary romance (as you don’t need to have read the series to get into this novel)!

MY Second Sentence Saturday :

"Hawk's Revenge" [Lone Pine Pride Series, Book 3] by Vivi Andrews (aka Lizzie Shane)

Adrian drifted up through the layered fog of his consciousness, the sensation oddly familiar, mirroring the memory of his wings catching air current above air current to lift him higher into the sky.

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT to share either the link to your own SECOND SENTENCE SATURDAY post or share the sentence in a comment here (if you don’t have a blog). Thank You!

Idolizing In: The Virgin Cowboy Billionaire’s Secret Baby by Lauren Gallagher

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon: Kindle Edition - File Size: 1219 KB | Expected Release Date: October 6, 2015 | Publisher: Samhain Publishing | Obtained: NetGalley

"The Virgin Cowboy Billionaire’s Secret Baby" by Lauren Gallagher (aka L. A. Witt, Lori A. Witt, Ann Gallagher, and Diana Fyre)

Author's Book Description : You can’t thaw a heart that was never frozen.

Retired at thirty-five, billionaire Matt Coolidge should be enjoying the fruits of his workaholic years. Instead, he’s got migraines from butting heads with his mother. If Matt doesn’t get a matrimonial move-on, she’s threatening to will the family farm to his brother, who’ll turn it into a strip mall.

Then Matt’s childhood best friend rolls back into town, bringing a complication that’s not entirely unexpected—or unwelcome.

Years ago, with Matt’s help, Dara Marley froze several embryos before cancer treatment stole her fertility—and before a stupid argument tore their friendship apart. Now alone, she’s taking the most logical step to ensure the child she’s carrying has a father. Returning to Matt—and hoping bygones will be bygones.

Baby and all, Matt’s on board. And when Dara finds out Matt’s career kept him too busy for a relationship—even sex—she’s more than happy to bring him up to speed.

But a decades-old grudge between their families means keeping quiet about their good news—and the feelings they never knew went far deeper than friendship.

Warning : Contains a virgin who’s been waiting a long time for this and a woman who’s happy to show him the way. And they’ve both had it up to here with narrow-minded gossips and small-town grudges.

My Book Review : 5 out of 5 stars!! About a decade ago, Matthew (Matt) and Dara--two best friends--were there for one another during the worst time of Dara's life when she was dealing with cancer treatments and deciding to freeze some of her eggs/embryos with the help of Matt. After that, they both grew apart first because of a stupid fight, then life just swept them onto different paths. Now both are living back in their hometown and even though Dara is in the middle of a divorce she has news for Matt, she's pregnant from the embryos they created years ago and is curious if he would be willing to actually be a father to the life he created now that her ex-husband is out of the picture. Matt agrees and so their friendship begins again like they were never apart. Yet, if it was only them, everything would be fine but with both their families hating one-another over a generational feud and with a gossipy town contend with, it's them against the world .... but will it bring them closer together or further apart?

This novel is so erotically sweet that I could not get enough and was wishing for a Matt of my own. I loved how Dara and Matt dealt with their relationship before and after they had sex. Watching them fall in love without realizing it was happening was pretty special. Also, I appreciated how the arguments in this novel were between everyone else yet not between them. No that doesn't mean that they had the "perfect" lives/relationship, but it showed how committed they were to each other; it was them against everyone else. So sweet!! In addition, Matt was the perfect combo of hot shy guy and determined possessive man, at least from his POV, that I became enamored with him. Dara is one lucky woman!

I recommend this novel to those looking for a sweet erotic best friend contemporary romance!!

"Oh my God!"
Abruptly, she released a ragged breath and gently nudged him back. Then she sat back a little, her eyes wide and her face flushed. "Well, that was new."
"New? How so?"
"I've never come just from that." She shivered once more. "Maybe these stupid hormones are good for something."
"Aww, damn. And here I thought it was beginner's luck."
