Made the Grade: The Connollys Series, Book 1 / A Charisma Series Novel

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon: Kindle Edition - File Size: 1156 KB | Expected Release Date: October 14, 2016 | Publisher: Coffee on Sundays Press | Obtained: Magic of Books Promotions

"The Rock Star’s Christmas Reunion" [The Connollys Series, Book 1] & [A Charisma Series Novel] by Heather Hiestand (aka Anh Leod)

Author's Book Description : Twelve years ago, Bax Connolly left his small town behind to find fame and fortune with his guitar. Now the legendary, tattooed rock star is back and has purchased a home. The bad boy of the music industry wants to reconnect with his estranged family by throwing a huge Christmas party. But his tough, working class relatives have no clue how to deal with their ultra-wealthy and famous prodigal son and want nothing to do with him.

Yakima Wannassay’s catering company needs a Christmas miracle to keep from going under, but she never expected Santa to deliver her the perfect holiday client—her former next door neighbor Bax. A recommendation from him could take her business to a whole new level. And when she steps under the mistletoe with the irresistible Bax, she finds herself wanting to mix business with pleasure. Too bad a long ago told little white lie could blow up in her face and ruin both Christmas and her future.

The Rock Star’s Christmas Reunion reunites a couple who were never together except in rumor, adds some music industry edge, and mixes in the joy of the holidays!

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars! After years away, Bax (Baxter) has returned home to salvage his relationship with his family. However, he didn’t expect to connect with his old neighbor Yakima or to have her become the calming presence his life, especially when he finds that his family has more drama then he originally thought. Yet, will their lives mesh up enough to be anything more than a fling?

Entertaining, sweet, and full of unique twists. This sweet rockstar romance integrates its readers into small town life in Battlefield, Washington and more accurately the big boisterous Connolly family. I liked that even though this novel was based around Bax & Yakima it felt more like great setup to an intriguing series.

Bax and Yakima are an enjoyable pair. Plus, it was fun to see how Yakima mellowed Bax out and the steps it took to get him to be “vegan-ized,” while he brought out her “wild side” a bit. Their story might seem unrealistic at first but I liked how Ms. Hiestand normalized them both and kept everything believable in a way to say, “No one is perfect,” even though Bax and Yakima are perfect together.

I recommend this novel to those looking for a unique contemporary rockstar romance!

Idolizing In: The Governess Series, Book 2

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon: Kindle Edition - File Size: 2146 KB | Expected Release Date: October 10, 2016 | Publisher: Simon & Schuster : Gallery Books : Pocket Star | Obtained: NetGalley

"The Governess Was Wanton" [The Governess Series, Book 2] by Julia Kelly

Author's Book Description : This delightfully charming and saucy historical romance series features three best friends, employed as governesses for different families, who all find themselves wanting something they can’t have.

Mary Woodward, a young veteran governess, has one job: guiding a young debutante through her first season in high society. And up until now, keeping her focus and avoiding temptation has been easy. But never before has the father of her young charge been as devilishly handsome as the single, wealthy Earl of Asten…. Convinced to risk it all, Mary let’s herself enjoy one night of magic at a masked ball in Asten’s arms, but will they both regret everything when the Earl learns her true identity?

My Book Review : 5 out of 5 stars!!! When Mary starts her latest job as the governess to the Earl of Asten's only daughter, she finds her world tilted of its axis by the Earl (Eric) himself. He's handsome, smart, and kind with a roguish streak the only seems to come out around her. They try to maintain distance between them but the night of the masquerade ball the distance becomes obsolete but only Mary knows the truth. Will Mary & Eric be able to have more than stolen moments together or will their ranks keep them separated forever?

This novel enamored me from the very beginning!! The illicit situation that brews between Mary & Eric is sweet and all consuming; it had me wanting their story to be never-ending. All the characters were entertaining in their own right making this Cinderella-ish novel so fun to read!

Yet, what captured me was Mary & Eric. The intense connection they shared was thrilling to read about while charming in a way that wish I could've read about more (like in an epilogue). They were perfect for one another. And how Mary just seemed to fit into Eric and his daughter's lives was so seamless that it only took putting down "the rival" to make everything work for them. 💖

This is one of my favorites so I definitely recommend it to those looking for a slightly erotic historical romance!!!

Idolizing In: Found in Oblivion Series, Book 1

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 5021 KB | Release Date: August 21, 2016 | Publisher: Rainbow Rage Publishing | Obtained: Amazon

"Bedded Bliss" [Found in Oblivion Series, Book 1] by Cari Quinn & Taryn Elliott (aka Taryn Quinn)

Author's Book Description : A hot night in Vegas is just what the rockstar ordered…until someone ends up married.

Michael Shawcross is living the dream, opening up for his idols, Oblivion, on his band Warning Sign’s first tour. Until an overzealous fan goes too far and his hard-partying ways catch up to him in the form of an ultimatum from his manager, Lila Crandall.

Clean up your image—or else.

Single mom Chloe Adams is in Vegas for a rare girls’ night out. She wasn’t ever supposed to be attracted to another rockstar. In fact, she’s in rockstar rehab, and the cure for her addiction definitely isn’t a sexy, smart-assed guitarist with wicked fingers.

She never expects to accidentally end up his wife. Or to have her new husband suddenly decide that she’s the solution to all his problems. And surprise…he’s happy to show his appreciation in a number of interesting, inventive ways.

Pretending their marriage is real might just be the hottest proposition she’s ever been given.

But what happens when a lie becomes the truth?

My Book Review : 5 out of 5 stars!! Two acquaintances meet up unexpectedly in Vegas. After a night of partying and heavy flirtation they wake up to find they’re married yet have no memory of doing so. Both are from different upbringings and completely different worlds, but because of how he was raised Michael doesn’t want to get divorced and plans on assisting Chloe any way he can so their marriage will work. Will all of Michael’s plans fall into place, making it so Chloe, her son, and Michael can actually be a good family together? Or will others try to keep them apart for good?

This is the first really sweet rockstar romance novel that I’ve read in a while, and I am SOOO HAPPY that I found it! Though I feel that Ms. Quinn & Ms. Elliott need to put together some type of “family tree” for the band (if they haven’t already) just to keep everyone’s backgrounds straight, I did not feel lost at all in this novel and it kept me entertained the whole way through, with an intriguing plotline and characters (main & secondary) to boot!

Both Michael & Chloe are intense and driven people, so much so that they have a hard time listening to one another in the beginning but it makes their banter and their story that much more fun! I loved how Michael pretty much worshipped Chloe. I mean they might not have known each other that well before Vegas but I loved how their relationship came together and how Michael was determined to make a go of them together no matter what. I was charmed! In addition, I adored how the ending played out making it so they had a situation to deal with and to triumph over instead of one of them accidently hurting the other. As I said above, it made me all so happy. *hehee*

I HIGHLY recommend this novel to those looking for an awesome rockstar contemporary romance!

Made the Grade: The Souvenir by Emma Nichols

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 359 KB | Release Date: October 3, 2016 | Publisher: Self-Published | Obtained: Amazon

"The Souvenir" by Emma Nichols

Author's Book Description : Bestselling author Emma Nichols presents a new adult contemporary romance fans and critics are comparing to works of Jennifer Weiner. Snark and heart make The Souvenir a novel that will leave readers desperate for more.

Wren Jacobs—a twenty-something corporate trainer—would like to announce the birth of her baby, Taylor, named after the artist singing "Bad Blood" during the conception. Mother and child are adjusting nicely and ready to welcome visitors, especially the father, Brady Conner.

Despite a few too many misunderstandings, Wren never stopped loving Brady…and would love the opportunity to thank him for her souvenir from their relationship who weighed in at a whopping 8lbs 5oz, effectively ruining her after an unintentional natural delivery. Taylor's birth will forever remind Wren of the first day of summer, the last time she was ever able to wear a bikini, and that she'll probably never go to a bar again.

Follow Wren and Brady as they navigate through the tricky dating scene in this touching romantic comedy, and fall in love with the souvenir of their relationship.

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars. Wren and Brady have been dating and living together for a while, and Brady messes that up by letting his insecurities and an ex-girlfriend of his get between them. Can Wren and Brady overcome everything to be able to get back together with one another? Or will friends and exes get in the way and assist their relationship in falling apart?

If the last two chapters weren’t as good as they were, you would be reading a major rant right about now. I mean I understand Wren’s fears about her relationship with Brady and why she wanted to move out of their/his house, which inevitably distanced herself from him. I get it. So, please do not take this wrong. But reading about how she spent her whole pregnancy using one excuse or another to not tell Brady about their baby REALLY irked me. I have a different perspective then most on the instance of children being raised by single mothers, while I support them wholeheartedly (as my mother was one for many years) I feel the man (if he’s technically a good guy) has the right to know and choose whether or not to be a part of his child’s life. I know it can be hard because of how relationship may end (like Wren and Brady’s did) but if you don’t tell the father then you hurt your child and you don’t get to see the possibility of how good a guy he could turn out to be for his child. Even though I know not all guys are great, I still think they have the right to know.

Therefore, because of my beliefs, it was very hard for me to appreciate the middle part of this novel. In addition, it did NOT help that Wren’s best friend Jasmine kept assisting to create distance between Wren and Brady. Jasmine did this because she wanted what was best for herself by having Wren move in with her. Yes I feel Jasmine did want what was best for Wren too but because of her own personal issues with Brady as soon as something went wrong between Wren and Brady, Jasmine used that to inform Wren she just needed to stay away all together. It was very annoying. Even though I know that this is how most female friendships work (hey, I am a female) it was just grating to see Jasmine trying to support Wren in ways that I didn’t feel were assisting Wren at all. And I would LOVE to be a fly on the wall when Wren informs Jasmine of the new changes in her life that take place in the last chapter, as I don’t think Jasmine will be too happy about them. *sigh*

I really did not want to rant. I’m sorry. While this novel was not what I expected or hoped for I appreciated the transformations that both Wren and Brady go through throughout this novel. I do feel Wren and Brady were made for each other. Yet, they were both too stubborn to see through their pride and reconcile sooner. The best thing I can say about this novel is I LOVED Wren and Brady’s banter.

Overall, I DO recommend this novel. It was sweet and charming when it wanted to be. Also, I enjoyed Trey tremendously! I feel this novel is for those looking for an unplanned pregnancy romance and/or an unexpected women’s fiction.

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon: Kindle Edition - File Size: 6990 KB | Expected Release Date: July 2, 2016 | Publisher: Self-Published | Obtained: instafreebie

"Rebel Kato" [Shifters of the Primus Series, Book 1] by Elyssa Ebbott

Author's Book Description : He takes what he wants. And he wants me.

When we run out of fuel hundreds of light years from Earth, our only hope is a nearby planet. There’s just one problem: it’s home to the most savage aliens in the galaxy.

But when the Primus warriors board our ship, they haven’t come to take all of us. Their prince just wants me. And it’s up to me to prove that humans make worthy mates to these dominant alien warriors…or else.

Kato is a deadly alpha shifter with shimmering golden skin and a tendency to leave bodies in his wake. He’s dangerous and has an ego as big as his golden spear. But does he just want a few nights of passion, or a woman to call his princess?

When murderous factions try to keep us apart, I will have more to worry about than just surviving the irresistible prince’s touch. I must choose between the danger of being beside him or the certain death that awaits outside his protection.

He has protected me so far. But when his king demands my death, will my prince rebel against his own people to save me?

Rebel Kato is the first book in the Shifters of the Primus series, but it can be read as a standalone. Each book in this science fiction series has a happily ever after and no cliffhangers, guaranteed.

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars. This is a powerful sci-fi erotica, that could be action-paced one moment, sweet in another, and then very lustful without any effort. While it has an intriguing setup, it was the dialogue that didn't win me over as I'd have liked it too.

Nevertheless, I would still recommend it.

Made the Grade: Secrets of Cherry Lake Series / The Jackson Family Legacy, Book 2

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon: Kindle Edition - File Size: 548 KB | Expected Release Date: August 24, 2015 | Publisher: Tule Publishing : Montana Born Books | Obtained: NetGalley

"The Secret Son" [Secrets of Cherry Lake Series / The Jackson Family Legacy, Book 2] by Joan Kilby (Note: "The Secret Son" is another name for "The Montana Son.")

Author's Book Description : A birthday card out of the blue from his estranged father sends successful Seattle marketing man Alex Chernoff on a detour to Cherry Lake in search of answers about his past. A day, maybe two, to tie up loose strings and he’ll be out of there, heading for Mexico, margaritas and blondes in bikinis.

Emma Stanhope is all too familiar with hot, rich, entitled guys like Alex. They never hang around for long, especially not for a Plain Jane like herself. No problem. She’s smart and logical, like any good scientist, and knows better than to lose her heart.

What Emma doesn’t count on is chemistry—of the romantic kind. What Alex doesn’t count on is meeting the girl who’ll make him want to change his ways. But when he learns that he’s a secret from his father’s real family, he can’t stay in Cherry Lake… even if he wants to.

Will love be enough to convince Alex to stay… for good?

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars. Around his thirtieth birthday, Alex, receives a birthday card from his "long lost" father. On a whim, he decides on confronting his father instead of going on planned vacation. But what he learns just might be more then he can handle...

Though I grew up knowing that I (myself) was a secret child of my birth father's, while Alex only knew that his father left him, I felt a certain kindred spirit to Alex and this novel. As I completely get it. I get Alex's need for validation. I get why Robert did what he did, though he might be a great guy to everyone else what he did to Alex (not acknowledging him as his son) was sucky and shitty. It hurt a bit to read those parts, I'm not gonna lie. However, I feel Ms. Kilby handled the delicacy of the plot quite well, even though some parts of the ending wrapped up a little too nicely for me.

Nevertheless, I feel that the romance plot held this novel together. Giving it a sweetness and hilarity that it required so everyone could process the rest of the novel with a lightness that would not have been there otherwise.

I recommend this novel to those looking for a serious contemporary romance.

Made the Grade: Dragon Falls Series, Book 1 & Dragon Septs Series, Book 11

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon: Paperback - Pages: 330; Kindle Edition - File Size: 2347 KB; Audible – Unabridged | Expected Release Date: July 28, 2015 | Publisher: Grand Central Publishing : Forever | Obtained: NetGalley

"Dragon Fall" [Dragon Falls Series, Book 1] & [Dragon Septs Series, Book 11] by Katie MacAlister (aka Katie Maxwell)

Author's Book Description : The first book in New York Times bestselling author Katie MacAlister’s sexy, steamy Dragon Falls series.

YOU FLIRT WITH FIRE…

For Aoife Dakar, seeing is believing-and she’s seen some extraordinary things. It’s too bad no one else believes that she witnessed a supernatural murder at an outdoor fair. Returning to the scene for proof, Aoife encounters a wise-cracking demon dog-and a gloriously naked man who can shift into a dragon and kiss like a god. Now thrust into a fantastical world that’s both exhilarating and terrifying, Aoife is about to learn just how hot a dragon’s fire burns.

WHEN YOU DATE A DRAGON

Kostya has no time for a human woman with endless questions, no matter how gorgeous or tempting she is. He must break the curse that has splintered the dragon clans before more of his kind die. But his powerful attraction to Aoife runs much deeper than the physical-and there may be more to her than even his sharp dragon eyes can see. To survive the coming battle for the fate of his race, he needs a mate of true heart and soul…

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars, two years ago Aoife witnessed her date (the same one who had just "given" her a "magical ring") get slayed and than reincarnated ... which in turn sent her into an insane asylum. Now officially out as being "cured," she goes back to the fair where her life changed just too ultimately get thrown back into the "magical" world again. While knowing that she was never insane in the first place is great, dealing with talking demon dog, a brooding dragon shifter, and ending a dragon war might be more than she's able to handle...

Though it wasn't quite what I expected, I found this standalone series romance novel to be one hilarious dramedy that seemed never-ending. Constant action from one moment to the next with only one slow moment at the beginning. It was a very enticing read.

Ultimately, Jim made this novel. Yet Aoife's sass, pizzazz, unvulgar commentary, and how she charmed Kostya is what entertained me the most. Aoife and Kostya are one fated pair that seemed to be resistant of the match in the beginning. But it was because of their resistance that made you want to root for their relationship even more, especially since fate is never wrong. 😆 😂

I recommend this novel to those who are fans of Ms. MacAlister, fans of the Aisling Grey Series, and/or those looking for a unique paranormal shifter romance.

Book Teaser(s) :
"I don't know whether to be more disturbed by the fact that you think a dog can talk or that you can stand there, stark naked, without so much as a stapler as a weapon, and hold me prisoner." I adopted a quite reasonable, conversational tone, the sort intended to calm deranged people and keep them from committing acts of violence. I tried very hard not to notice just how nice the naked Kostya felt against me, the unyielding planes of his body being softened by my curves. It was a wonderful demonstration of how men and women fit together, but now was not the time to dwell on that subject.
His eyes were black, I noticed as he scowled down at me. Not dark brown but black, as black as his pupils, but a shiny black, one that glittered with little specks of silver. Unfortunately, at that moment, the glitter took the form of ire. "What the hell are you talking about?" he demanded to know. "What stapler?"
"There's no stapler," I said, finding myself suddenly blighted with several conflicting desires, ranging from the urge to grab his head and kiss him to laughing at the crazy situation, stomping on his toes, kneeing him in the naked noogies, and running away.
He looked even more irritated. ~ within Chapter 5
"For a man who doesn't want me, you sure end up kissing me a lot," I snapped, casting yet another glance at my feet before looking around the room. There was no fire to be seen, and only the faintest black smudge on the floor were the little pools of flames had been. "But I'm going to let your overbearing arrogance---"
"I am not arrogant."
"---and self-centered egotism---"
"I am a wyvern! The welfare of my sept falls on my shoulders."
"---go, because this fire thing just freaks the bejebus out of me. Wait a minute---dragon fire? That's a thing? A real thing?"
"Dragons control their fire, yes," he said, looking impatient.
"I object to that," I said, pointing at his face. "You can't give me that impatient, 'How did you not know that dragons have fire, let alone control it' look when that's so out of the bounds of normalcy that it never even struck me as possible. Well, to be true, the same can be said about dragons, but still! You didn't tell me that the whole fire-breathing dragon thing was real."
"You are an odd woman," he said thoughtfully.
"Odd good, or odd bad?" ~ within Chapter 6
"What's that mean?" I heard myself ask, even though I was blind and bemused.
The hard thing I hit shifted beneath me and groaned. "You don't speak Latin?"
I waited a minute until the wavy blackness that seemed to swim around me faded, and I could see. I rolled off Kostya and glared at him as best I could. "I'm a half-Senegalese, half-Irish woman who was born in America and raised in Sweden. Do you think I speak Latin?"
"I see no obstacle to you knowing it." ~ within Chapter 17

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon: Paperback - Pages: 126; Kindle Edition - File Size: 2187 KB | Expected Release Date: September 2, 2016 | Publisher: Self-Published | Obtained: Amazon / Laura Fletcher

"Miss Hopeful" by Laura Fletcher

What was I thinking? : As stated above I was told about this novel being FREE from Ms. Fletcher (the author) and got it through Amazon. I really like the book description and book's cover. Yet, while I didn't love this novel my goal is to always promote the book that I've read, if you don't like my review make sure to check out the extras posted to promote the novel underneath it. So, here we go...

Author's Book Description : Sandra Birmingham is twenty-two years old and has always dreamed of escaping her vigorous and mundane life in Rhode Island. She listed herself in a catalog as a mail-order bride and is hoping a handsome and righteous man is going to ask her for her hand in marriage.

Samuel James Edgerton the older kind, handsome and loving father had been married once and takes care of his sick seven-year-old daughter, Betsy. When Samuel’s father passed away, he was left with no choice but to look for a loyal wife to accompany him and to help care for his daughter. When Samuel first lays his eyes on Sandra, he knew there was much much more about her than the naked eye could see.

They both agree to enter into an arrangement, and soon Sandra finds herself falling in love with Samuel. However, has Samuel really truly gotten over his ex-wife? He has never reconciled his feelings for his past lover but soon finds himself in a situation that he thought he had always wanted. As Betsy’s condition worsens, Samuel and Sandra find themselves hopelessly relying deeply upon each other. What happens next will shock even Samuel himself.

My Book Review : 1 out of 5 stars. A young woman from Rhode Island places an ad for herself as a mail order bride and gets a proposal from a man living in the Montana Territory who wants her to look after his sick daughter. Overtime they form a dear relationship but by then people from their pasts come back and might end up pulling them apart for good...

I LOVED the cover. Yet, I was never a fan of the writing, though the plot held promise. Even though I struggled through it, I was able to read up to 46% reasonably but after that, the writing I couldn't handle anymore and I didn't like the directions the plot was taking me. Therefore, from that point on I skimmed the rest of it, as I was still curious as to what would happen to Betsy.

This novel wasn't for me. So, I don't feel comfortable recommending it. Yet it could be for you if you can overlook the writing style.

"You look so beautiful."
Betsy snorted, looking tired. "I don't believe ya.'" She slowly walked toward the bed, sat on top of it, and looked back at Sandra. "I'm dyin', I know that."
Sandra was taken aback with what Betsy had said. She drew a breath, stood up, and finally sat down beside Betsy. "Don't talk like that, Betsy," she kindly said, affected with the child's lack of hope. "Believe me when I tell you that you are so beautiful." ~ within Chapter 5 - titled 'Sandra'

Made the Grade: Bionic Outlaw's Baby by Zara Zenia

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 3039 KB | Release Date: September 17, 2016 | Publisher: Self-Published | Obtained: Amazon

"Bionic Outlaw's Baby" by Zara Zenia

Author's Book Description : Elijah:
I thought that I knew it all.

Until they turned me into a machine and wanted to use me as a weapon.

I found love. But as usual, it was time for me to run.

Until she found me and told me the impossible.

That she was carrying my baby.

Dana:
He worked for my dad.

But then he got fired because I loved him. He’s the only one I’ve ever been with.

But then I found out I’m carrying his baby. He doesn’t even know yet. I need to find him.

My dad wants me to get an abortion. Who would marry a single mom? What am I going to do?

Bionic Outlaw’s Baby is a sci-fi secret baby romance novel. There is NO cheating, NO cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happy ending!

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars! Elijah was a lifer in the Army, who grew up in foster care, so when a mission turns him up as dead he understands that no one will be out there really missing him. What surprises him is that he awakes to find that the doctors revived him, yet they did so in a way that irrevocably changed him into a bionic man. Though he really doesn’t mind the tests the doctors do on him and likes his living arrangement, for the most part, after a fellow “test subject” befriends him they learn that they are more like prisoners than anything else. Therefore, Elijah escapes the facility and while on the run for his life, he meets Dana forming his first “relationship” in a long time. Yet with him being on the run, they can’t share more than some “fun times” together. So, when their circumstances change will they be able to handle all that comes their way or not?

I really wish I had liked this novel more. It was good but I feel it was more of an erotica than a romance. Elijah’s transformation is very interesting to read about, especially about how he dealt with his new abilities. Together Dana and Elijah have a lust-filled relationship that grows into more because of the situations they unwittingly get into. Though it wasn’t what I expected I’m glad I stuck with it as I really enjoyed its ending.

I recommend this to those looking for a Science Fiction-ish “baby daddy” erotica.
