Who knows, That here we are, And you’re a super star on your own

In "Prada & Prejudice" by Mandy Hubbard, Callie's year hasn't been going well .... so when she convinces her mother into letting her go on a school trip to England she thinks this is her chance to make a change in her life .... possibly become popular ... maybe make some friends .... but definitely stop being the shy girl in the crowd. However, when most of the other girls on the trip don't help her fit in .... she makes a plan to follow them to a club she overheard them talking about visiting that night and just happen to show up. So, a shopping trip is in order!! And what would make those girls notice her as someone with style? Why Prada shoes of course!! But as soon as she's buys them, puts them on, and walks out the door .... she realizes she should have tried them on .... they are a little too big and she really doesn't know how to walk in them. =0/ Then before she knows how to get her balance she falls down .. knocking her head on the concrete. After the pain subsides .... she opens her eyes to find out she is now in 1815 England!! Thankfully she finds a house/mansion not to far from where she woke up .... thinking someone could help her ... but even though the owners let her in .... they now believe she's their American friend Rebecca who was planning on staying with them for awhile. And until she can find a way back home ...... she falls into high society .... and the secrets of everyone around her ..... will she make it home (back to the 21st century) .... or will she even want to leave by the time that comes???

3.5 out of 5 stars. Parts of the story dragged on a bit .... however ... I LOVED how the author wrapped it all up ... so in a way it might possibly be believable! =0)

Feasted On: Clockwork by Paige Shelton

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Kindle Edition - File Size: 257 KB | Release Date: August 2010 | Publisher: Penelope Publishing | Obtained: B. Button (Beatrice)

"Clockwork" by Paige Shelton
(Originally published as "SNEAKS," which is what it was called when this reviewer read it.)

My Book Summary : Kally just turned sixteen-years-old and is from the year 2184. Where she is from it's a dreary time for everyone. Growing up guys and girls are meant to be separated up until their 18th birthday, which is when they get the choice to either marry someone who is selected for them (which could end up being an older person who was either preciously widowed or divorced) or end up single with a lousy job position. Kally would rather be single but with the way, the economy is she may not be given a choice. However, since she's only sixteen, for the moment, she wants to avoid the "BIG DECISION" at all costs and she's almost positive she never wants to get married.

On her 16th birthday she is fixing a clock, something that is found illegal by her government, and finds a necklace that has a pendent of a globe showing the "old world" on it. As jewelry is illegal as well, during her time, she decides to try it on, as she wouldn't normally get the chance, and finds herself being shoved to somewhere else---18th Century Scotland.

Once there she finds people who become her first friends that she's ever had, along with some young love along the way. However, there is someone who seems to be trying everything to keep her out of that time period and although she finds she really, likes being there she does miss her mother. Will Kally decide to go back home and stay there or will fate decide for her??

My Book Review : 4.5 out of 5 stars!! This story was a bit confusing at times but with the way the storyline flows and since it's only from Kally's POV it makes this story one that creates the reader to feel the way she does about the issues going on around her. The storyline in this book is really entertaining and creative in the way the necklace is used, all of the rules that go along with it, and how Kally tries to deal with the changes going on around her. Plus --- the characters are great!! There are some who you can never get a good feel on until the book is about 75% of the way through but it's that more interesting because of it! In addition, I LOVED the romantic relationship that Kally gets into.

I recommend this book to all those who like YA (veering on New Adult) time travel romance novels!!!

Side Note (written when the title was listed as "Sneaks") :: Now that I think of it when I read the title of this book again, "Sneaks," I can't stop but think of the sneakers that Kally couldn't stop wearing. *hehee*

Book Teaser(s) :
Teaser #1
“Kally, I’ll apologize to ye now for my behavior.”
I wanted to ask which behavior he meant – the ride on the horse the day before or his sourness out on the hillside – but I still didn’t trust my voice. Plus, an apology was an apology. I nodded again. “Thank . . .” I coughed. How was he breathing so well?
“Aye. Weel, when ye’re feeling better, we’ll start over, and I’ll attempt to show ye that I can be something other than a horse’s arse.”
I huffed a laugh and then coughed, but this time with less body wracking violence.
“Perhaps ye were destined to save me, Kally Bright, from faraway,” he said.
“I don’t think I saved you.”
“Aye,” he said thoughtfully. ~ within the story as there isn't any chapters

Feasted On: Flat-Out Love by Jessica Park

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 450 KB | Release Date: 2011 | Publisher: Self-Published

"Flat-Out Love" by Jessica Park

My Book Summary : Julie has just left Ohio and moved to Boston to start college and found out that the apartment that she was planning on moving into turns out to be a Burrito Restaurant, so much for agreeing to the place through craigslist. Well, now with nowhere to go, she calls her mom in a panic, knowing she can’t live on the side of the road. Thankfully her mother’s old college roommate lives in Massachusetts too and said Julie could move into her house while she begins college and looks for another place to live. So, now Julie moves into a house of near strangers ... there is:
  • Erin – the mother. very smart. a professor at Harvard. really likes to discuss things. doesn’t drive. nice.
  • Roger – the father. equally as smart as his wife. a researcher. quiet. sweet. travels a lot for his job.
  • Finn – the oldest child and son. adventurist. traveling the world. hot. smart. sweet. cares about his sister and family.
  • Matt – the middle child and youngest son. smart. a junior at MIT. takes care of his sister. doesn’t have many/if any friends. is on his computer a lot. cares a LOT about his family.
  • Celeste – the youngest child and the daughter. misses Finn, so has a “Flat Finn” to cope. sweet. very smart. doesn’t fit in with the other high school students her age. very creative.

Even though this family is unique, Julie finds that she does fit in with these strangers. Soon she becomes friends with each of them, even with Finn through their Facebook accounts, and when she doesn’t seem to be able to find another place to live she is told that they have no problem with her staying there for the year. However, it quickly becomes apparent, especially with Flat Finn usually always with Celeste, that something isn’t quite right and Julie takes it on herself to try to help this family that has been so good to her. But nothing stays a secret long so what will happen when it finally comes out and stirs up everything she thought was true?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars!! This was a novel about what a family does for those they love, and a girl who falls right into the middle of their lives who helps them in a way she never expects. What would you do to cope/survive something that looks hopeless to survive? What would you do to pull the ones you love back to what they once were? This is all from Julie’s POV so you don’t know what’s happening until she finds out, but in some ways it easy to guess at, just the reasoning behind what happened to the family is a little shocking. Some also may think what Matt does to Julie is a little mean, but you also have to remember Matt is the one at home still trying to hold his family together while Finn is off, so he does what he thinks is right but then can’t seem to find a way out of his lies. I really liked the relationship Julie finds herself in and the Facebook chats do get really steamy! I really like Matt and his quirky ways. Plus, getting to read about Celeste and how she goes from a recluse to a “typical” teenager is just a bonus!

Book Teaser(s) :
A dark car slowed and pulled to a stop, double-parking in front of Julie. "Mom, I have to go. I think this Matt character is here."
"Are you sure it's him?"
Julie peered into the car as the window lowered. "I see a maniacal-looking guy with brightly-colored candy in one hand, and he's waving a bloody sickle with the other. Oh! He's beckoning me to the car. This must be my ride."
"Julie, stop it!" her mother ordered. "You have no idea how I feel, knowing that my only child is stranded in Boston. I wish I were there with you. Make sure it's Matthew. Ask to see his license." ~ within Chapter 1
Matthew Watkins At the first Thanksgiving, one of the bloodiest battles ensued when it was discovered that the deliveryman forgot to bring extra duck sauce.
Finn is God is, on this enchanting evening, in love with a wonderful guy.
Julie Seagle Going to write a book called, "Binge, Screw, Loathe." It will be about a hateful woman who travels across the U.S. visiting all-you-can-eat brothels. ~ within Chapter 15

"Embrace the Night" [Cassandra Palmer Series, Book 3] by Karen Chance

My Book Summary : Even though Cassandra (Cassie) has now accepted her destiny as the Pythia, she still has those who plan on killing her since they don't believe she is a good fit (even though they know nothing about her), while others just want her dead for their own reasons. However, while fighting for her life, right now her main goal is to brake the geis that is on her and a vampire master named Mircea before they either stop fighting it and complete the spell making one of the a "love" slave of the other one or they stay apart until one of them dies because the spell making them going insane. The only way to save both Mircea and her life is to find this Codex Merlini, an ancient text of spells that is said to have the counter curse in it. However, the Codex has been lost years ago so she will have to travel into the past in search of it. In addition, as she searches she comes to realize that even though it may help her to find that spell there is more to the Codex then she knows and everyone is willing to take it from her no matter what the price.

My Book Review : 4.5 out of 5 stars!! So far this is my favorite book out of the series, especially since it grows Pritkin, Mircea, and Cassie's characters ... along with growing Cassie's relationships with both men!!

I wish I could say more but then I'd probably give away good things about the book. READ IT!

My Previous Review(s) for this Series : Book 1 | Book 2

Book Teaser(s) :
"You can think at MAGIC, where it's safe."
"You know," I said savagely, "considering how often I hear that word, it's amazing how frequently I end up almost dead!"
"That will not happen tonight," he said firmly, and took my hand. I stared at him in horror, waiting for the electric sizzle that would tell me I'd just managed to kill us both. But other than the faint tingle the geis always gave off, there was nothing.
Nothing except a sweet, cloying odor, like flowers on the verge of rot. Where had I smelled that before? ~ within Chapter 11

"Amish Christmas Twins" [Christmas Twins Series, Book 1] & [A Amish Bachelor Series Novel] by Patricia Davids

Author's Book Description : The Widower’s Christmas Wish

With Christmas just around the corner, widow Willa Chase will do anything to retain custody of her twin girls and unborn baby—even if it means escaping to her childhood Amish home. After her grandfather turns her away, Willa finds herself stranded at the home of blacksmith John Miller. My Book Review : 4.5 out of 5 stars!!! This novel has a setup that I had never seen before, at least not in this way. I got to see a woman who had grown up Amish but had lived in the English world for about ten years while she tried to keep her family together the best way she could. In doing so she decided to return to her roots and her Amish faith, from there she falls in love with a man who keeps on saving her ...

Feasted On: Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 356 KB | Release Date: October 2009 | Publisher: HarperCollins | Obtained: Amazon.com

"Lord of Scoundrels" by Loretta Chase

My Book Summary : Sebastian, the Marquess of Dain, (also known as Lucifer, the Devil's son, Beelzebub, Dain, and quite a few more names) likes his life of debauchery. However, he gets a complete surprise when Jessica (Jess) walks into his life with plans to try to save her brother, Bertie, from his debts and get Bertie out of association with Dain. Dain will not be one to be told what to do by a woman, let alone be told by a lady! So, he does everything in his power to hurt Jess, through using her brother, even more.

Jess won't back down though, and every bad move Dain makes she seems to get him back some way or another. Yet when these two hot-tempered people get in too close proximity, the sparks and chemistry between them seem to be combustible, making their irritation with each other turn into a passion that cannot be denied.

When there are people that are willing to do anything to trump up this pair, by doing whatever it takes to put them into a scandal or worse, will they let their pride get in the way of the facts and go after each other or will they be smart about the situations go after the ones at fault instead?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! Exciting and smartly written! I was interested in reading this book ever since I saw it listed as one of Susan Elizabeth Phillips' Favorite Historical Romances on her website, and I'm very happy to say that I completely agree with her in it being a new fave for me too!! Which is saying a lot, especially since I'm not always one for liking historical romances.

Dain has had a very tough life. Because of his past he is now a man who lets very few (if none) people see his true self, and if anyone or anything stands in his way or in front of what he wants he will blow them away with any means necessary. Plus, he's also smart enough to negotiate with the best of them, so usually everything just happens to work out his way. Jess is a hellion all on her own, at least for the time period, and even if she can't outwit Dain at times, she sure can keep him guessing. It is not hard to like this pair, their schemes (against and with each other), and the hot chemistry that they have together.

I definitely recommend this book if you are a fan of historical romances with characters with a LOT of pride on their side, and/or if you are a fan of Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

Book Teaser(s) :
Bertie approached, and in his playing-field confidential whisper asked, "Any idea what she said, Dain?"
"Yes."
"What was it?"
"Men are ignorant brutes."
"You sure?"
"Quite."
Bertie let out a sigh and turned to the female, who still appeared fascinated with the contents of the display case. "You promised you wouldn't insult my friends, Jess."
"I don't see how I could, when I haven't met any." ~ within Chapter 1
Miss Trent, in short, was not only going to make Lord Dain crawl, but she would have Herriard do the dirty work for her, and have it all done legally, with not a loophole for Dain to wriggle out of.
"There is no animal more invincible than a woman," Aristophanes had said, "nor fire either, nor any wildcat so ruthless."
Ruthless. Vicious. Fiendish.
"Oh, no, you don't," Dain muttered. "Not via go-betweens, you demon spawn." ~ within Chapter 8

"Hearts on Fire" [St. Caroline Series, Book 2] by Julia Gabriel

Author's Book Description : Becca Trevor’s life is falling apart. She’s lost her job, her boyfriend’s in jail, and her mother’s quilt shop has just caught fire — with her in it.

To make matters worse, town golden boy Jack Wolfe has returned — looking better than ever ... but can their budding relationship survive the secret Becca’s been keeping for years?

"Julia Gabriel does an amazing job with this devastatingly heartbreaking love story." — RT Book Reviews, Top Pick

Becca never intended to come back to pretty little St. Caroline, Maryland and her family's quilt shop. Growing up, she was the wild child ... and the black sheep of the family ... and the girl who couldn’t get anything right.

And she definitely never intended to see Jack Wolfe again. Those fifteen minutes she’d spent with him at a graduation party seven years ago? Unforgettable—for a whole lot of reasons.

Jack was the golden boy of St. Caroline. Smart, Ivy League-educated, law school-bound. He’s home from California for a family emergency, a situation that would not be improved by the news that he’s not the hotshot corporate attorney everyone thinks he is. If he can keep his real job a secret until the end of summer, he’ll still be golden and no one else will be the wiser.

But Becca has an even bigger secret of her own ... one that will change Jack's life forever ...

The St. Caroline Series
Come to the shores of the Chesapeake Bay and the 300-year-old town of St. Caroline, Maryland. Meet the Trevor family—Michelle, Dan, Becca, Charlotte, Natalie, Cassidy and Lauren—and their popular quilt shop, Quilt Therapy. Across town, the men of the Wolfe family have been the backbone of the St. Caroline fire department for generations—and Tim, Jack, Matt and Oliver are continuing the tradition.

The St. Caroline Series features emotional stories with relatable characters you'll fall in love with, true-to-life problems and triumphs, and sweetly sexy romance that leads to a happy ever after.

My Book Review : 5 out of 5 stars!! For a majority of Becca's life she has felt like she has never fit in (though some of it was her own doing) but she tried to make good choices for those around her most of the time. It all led her to keeping a huge secret from her family seven years ago. Now with her life in turmoil again she goes home to make amends. Yet the one person her "big secret" is all about, Jack, sets her life for another curve ball. Could everything finally be turning around for the better now? Or will fate decide to take away all of their options and throw them for a loop too?

Bare with me as I try not to give too much away. But oh my word!! In this novel you deal with loss (in quite a few different forms) while watching the characters deal with continuing on with their lives as their "worlds" fall apart around them. I know that might sound a bit overly dramatic for a contemporary romance novel but it's what this novel portrays Becca and Jack going through.

This was a riveting tale that I could not put down.

Feasted On: You Wish by Mandy Hubbard

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 695 KB | Release Date: August 2010 | Publisher: Razorbill/Penguin

"You Wish" by Mandy Hubbard

My Book Summary : Kayla is what she likes to call herself, a glass-half-empty kind of girl. To her nothing seems to work out the way she plans it, and just to prove her point, she ends up with the worst birthday (and birthday party) imaginable. But she finds out the next day that when she blew out her candles the night before and wished, "I wish my birthday wishes actually came true. Because they never freakin’ do." she'll be in for a big surprise (and quite a few more) since her wish came true!!

Now she has to deal with a life-size My Little Pink pony, a "best friend" she hasn't spoken to in ages, a guy who resembles a Ken doll that's stalking her, and more ... but will she be able to stop all of these wishes before one of them could ruin her life? Like say, stop them before the one where she wished for Ben Mackenzie to kiss her is granted, since even though she has had a major crush on him from afar for about three years now, he also happens to be her best friend's boyfriend. =0/

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! Kayla is hilarious, you just can't help but route for her. It definitely made me think about my previous wishes that I've made over the years ... and in truth I am a little scared now if they actually came true. =0) This story is cute, funny, and drama filled!! If your a YA lover then I definitely recommend this one for you!

My Previous Review(s) for this Author : Prada & Prejudice

Book Teaser(s) :
I stare at her for a second, realizing my life is about to get tossed in the toilet if I don't figure this out. "Okay. So, I have you . . . a pony . . . gumballs . . ."
I sigh and sink onto the floor. There's a fourth wish waiting for me. Today. Somewhere. I don't even want to guess what kind of havoc I'm going to encounter. They're getting worse every day. ~ within Chapter 15

Kristen Katsaros wants a life full of adventure and laughter. After a difficult childhood, her motto is to live each day like it’s her last—because it just might be. So when Kristen’s parents send her on a post-grad singles cruise in the Caribbean to meet a Greek husband, she promptly hooks up with the hottest guy she’s ever met. Pasha’s decidedly not Greek, but Kristen gives him a pass because he’s got fun written all over his rock-hard abs.

Pavel Gribov, the cocky playboy of the Detroit Pilots hockey team, can score any girl he wants. But when a teammate drags him on a singles cruise, he can’t resist the chance to help out a drop-dead gorgeous damsel in distress by pretending to be her boyfriend. Before long, the fake fling turns intimate, fueled by something much deeper than lust.

Kristen and Pasha both agree to walk away once the cruise is over, but reality hits like a slap shot when Kristen finds out Pasha lied about everything. Just when she’s ready to start living again, the two stubborn survivors must decide if they can bear to lose the best thing that ever happened to either of them.

"Hot Shot" by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

My Book Summary : Susannah (Suzie or Suze) grew up with her grandmother after her mother left her there. The only problem was is that her grandmother was crazy, throwing strict rules at her that no one would ever be able to live up to, so when she got into trouble her usual punishment was to be locked into a stuffy closet where the dusty fur coats were held. Which always made her more skittish and scared then really helped her, making her get into trouble for other things that her grandmother might not have liked. So, when a guy finds her one day inside the closet, takes her out of there and her grandmother's house, tells her that he is her mother's husband and that she should call him father, she feels like he is her knight-in-shining-armor and plans to be the best daughter she could be. Over the years though being the best daughter has made her father love her more then his biological child, has made her younger sister resent her, and made her take up the role of coordinating the mansion and her father's schedule for him when her mother doesn't make the effort to do so.

Now, at the age of 25, she is planning on getting married to a guy that her father approves of and is feeling more trapped in her life (and her perfect daughter role) more then ever. Therefore, when Sam steps into her life trying to get a meeting with her father about his brilliant idea he'd like to sell him, she starts to realize that there might be a better life out there for her if only she would let it. However, when she decides to follow her heart, she finds herself cut off from the only family she's known and the only parent that has ever loved her. Then when she gets more involved in Sam and his partner's brilliant idea she realizes she's a women in a man's world, and she is going to have to fight her way to be seen as more then Sam's girl, especially when there are people who seem to want to knock her down every step of the way.

My Book Review : 4.5 out of 5 stars! Okay .... originally this book, in it's hardcover/paperback formats, was written in 1991 so most of the book is based in the 70's and 80's which is when women were just coming into the work force (more so then before) and taking on bigger roles that others might not have been ready for them to do. Plus, this book (based on what the author writes in her 'author's note') is based prominently on fiction, about the IBM's and Apple's of that time period (how they all got started -- etc.) while set in her non-fiction world. It kept me captivated! In addition, I LOVED the relationship Susannah had with Sam, Yank, & Mitch!! However, I will admit throughout this book there are twists that I really didn't expect to see, and I wish I had some tissues with me when they did come around.

My only problem with the book was that even though I loved the relationships that were written between all of the characters, I think there should have been a bit more about Susannah and the man she is with towards the end. Since the story gets them together but you really don't get to see their relationship bloom more so then what is provided already in the book. *shrug* But that could be just me.

Anyway .... I recommend this book for those who like fiction and non-fiction type of books mixed together, along with those whom have read the other books of Susan Elizabeth Phillips before since this one is one of her first books, and is GREAT right along with the rest!!

Book Teaser(s) :
She leaned into him just like always and moaned softly against his mouth. Reluctantly, he drew away.
She sighed and looked over at the boxes of parts. "You're going to put me to work now, aren't you?"
"I promise you can take a coffee break sometime next week."
She laughed, and then, together, they settled down to begin the laborious process of assembling forty single-board computers.
The task involved "stuffing" every one of the printed circuit boards by hand. ~ within Chapter 11
"Be honest with me," he said, as he stretched out his legs. "Do you think I'm stuffy?"
"You? Perish the thought."
"I'm not joking. I want to know."
"You're serious?"
He nodded.
"Yes. You're definitely stuffy."
"Well, thank you. Thank you so very much." He glared at her, a picture of offended dignity. ~ within Chapter 21
