"Royally Lost" by Angie Stanton

Author's Book Description : Dragged on a family trip to Europe’s ancient cities, Becca wants nothing more than to go home. Trapped with her emotionally distant father, over-eager stepmother, and a brother who only wants to hook up with European hotties, Becca is miserable. That is until she meets Nikolai, a guy as mysterious as he is handsome. And she unknowingly finds herself with a runaway prince.

Nikolai has everything a guy could ask for-he's crown prince, heir to the throne, and girls adore him. But the one thing he doesn't have...is freedom. Staging a coup, he flees his kingdom and goes undercover on his own European tour.

When Nikolai and Becca meet, it’s their differences that draw them together. Sparks fly as they share a whirlwind of adventures, all the while dodging his royal guard. But Becca's family vacation ends in a matter of days. Will Nikolai and Becca be forced to say goodbye forever, will his destiny catch up to him, or will they change history forever?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! Once this novel hooks your interest, it'll keep you entertained to the end! Two high school graduates, who come from very different backgrounds, paths keep crossing enough for them to take notice and get to know one another, which turns into something more if only their families don't keep them apart.

At first I wasn't sure how I would like this novel as it is a bit slow in the beginning, yet once it picks up--by the middle--I had a hard time putting it down. I enjoyed how Nikolai and Becca learned from each other and in doing so, they were able to create better futures for themselves. Together they are able to bring out who they both would rather become instead of who they were turning into before they met. In addition, I liked how this novel wrapped everything up. It's a very sweet romance!

I recommend this novel to anyone who is a fan of Ms. Stanton and/or enjoys contemporary NA romances!

About the Author :

Angie Stanton never planned on writing books; she wanted to be a Rockette. However, growing up in rural Wisconsin, with her brothers' 4-H pigs as pets, dance didn't work out. Instead she became an avid daydreamer. After years of perfecting stories in her head, she began to write them down, and the rest is history.

Angie is the author of six books including "Royally Lost," "Rock and a Hard Place," and "Snapshot." She graduated with a Journalism degree from the University of Wisconsin, and is a proud double finalist of the National Readers Choice Awards for "Love 'em or Leave 'em."

Book Excerpt :

The hot sun burned down on Becca. “The lake is so clear I can see all the way to the bottom. I wish I’d worn my swimsuit.”

“You could . . . you know,” Nikolai said suggestively, looking at her shirt.

“I am not skinny-dipping, so you can wipe that idea from your mind right now.”

“Look who’s jumping to conclusions. I wasn’t suggesting you skinny-dip.” He delivered a sly grin. “What I was about to say is that you could swim in your underwear.”

“Oh, but—”

“Ut.” He held up a finger. “Let me finish. Your underwear probably covers you more than your bathing suit anyway.”

Becca opened her mouth to speak, but then changed her mind. She knew he was secretly laughing at her.

“What? It’s a great idea.” He smiled devilishly.

“So, you’re saying you’d strip down to your undies, right here, in broad daylight.”

Nikolai stood and reached between his shoulders, pulled his T-shirt over his head, and dropped it at her feet. “You Americans are so uptight about your bodies.”

Becca stared at his strong arms, lean physique, and flat stomach. He began to unbutton his shorts.

Her jaw opened. She wanted to tell him to stop, but even more, she wanted to see if he’d actually drop his drawers in front of her.

He did.

Made the Grade: Epic Fail by Claire LaZebnik

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 526 KB | Release Date: August 2011 | Publisher: HarperTeen

"Epic Fail" by Claire LaZebnik

My Book Summary : Elise just moved, with her parents and 4 sisters, to L.A. and started at a private school where her parents both work at. Her older sister, Juliana, and her are very close, since they are only a year apart (Elise a junior and Juliana a senior in High School). On the first day Elise isn't so sure about their new place since everyone seems to be wearing designer clothes more so then anything she's used to (or can afford) and she doesn't seem to fit in. However, Juliana fits in real well, so well in fact that they get to sit at the "popular" table because of a guy she hit it off with.

Derek has been going to this same school for years, and is the best friend of the guy Juliana starts hanging out with but he seems to be very standoffish when Elise meets him. One of those reasons he is that way is because of his movie star parents making it so everyone wants to get close to him and be his friend (or more). Because of his best friend and Elise's sister they spend a lot of time together. Making Elise the envy of all the girls and her trying to figure out the mystery that is Derek. But when things are said about another guy that Elise has made friends with but isn't told the reasons, conclusions get made, and things get a bit colder between Derek and Elise especially when their pride and prejudice come into play.

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars .... I'm very sorry to say but I was disappointed by this novel, not a Disappointmentville type, but after all of the glowing reviews that I've read I guess I expected it to be a bit more. However, I will say that this author has taken a great spin on the Jane Austen novel "Pride and Prejudice" and turn it into a first rate plot for this century. I do like how she made Elise's younger sisters to have a bit more of a head on their shoulders. I liked the interaction between Derek, Elise, Juliana, Chase, and Chelsea. I am kinda disappointed that she basically drops off on the side story about Elise's mother and the school. And I guess I expected more out of Derek's mother too.

I don't know ... I just wish there was more to it then how it ended I guess. But it was very creative and on amazon.com there are a lot of glowing reviews about this novel ... so you never know, if you like Jane Austen novels then give this novel a try, you might like it a lot more then I did.

Maybe I'd like it better if there was a sequel to wrap all the loose ends up in. *shrug*

Book Teaser(s) :
"Why'd you come tonight?" I asked abruptly.
"Chase wanted to."
"You always do whatever he wants?"
"Pretty much. He's more like a brother than a friend at this point."
"I know what you mean. Juliana's just like a sister to me."
"Now that's a little weird," he said, with that brief shadow of a smile I'd seen once or twice before. ~ within Chapter 6

Review: Prom Nights from Hell by Stephenie Meyer, Kim Harrison, Meg Cabot, Lauren Myracle, & Michele Jaffe

Format: Paperback | Pages: 304 | Release Date: April 2007 | Publisher: HarperTeen

"The Exterminator's Daughter" [within Prom Nights from Hell] by Meg Cabot

Pages: 48

My Book Summary : Mary is the daughter of an "exterminator," someone who kills anything that is evil and goes "bump" in the night. However, she never expected to have one of those "things" going after her only friend and she won't let it get away with doing so. So, she plans on killing him before things get worse .... but then .... it get's worse. =0/

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars. It was cute. And I really enjoyed reading the story from the different perspectives of Mary & Adam. =0)

My Previous Review(s) for this Author : Avalon High | Ready or Not | Victoria and the Rogue

Book Teaser :
"Lila," I snap. "Shut up. Ted's right. You don't even know the guy. Because if you did, you'd never call him gentle."
"But he is," Lila insists, the glitter in her eyes fading to a warm glow. "You don't even know---"
A second later--I'm not even sure how it happened--I have her by the shoulders, and I'm shaking her. She's six inches taller than me and outweighs me by a good forty pounds.
But that doesn't matter. ~ within Chapter 3

"The Corsage" [within Prom Nights from Hell] by Lauren Myracle

Pages: 38

My Book Summary : Frankie and her friends go to a psychic to see what is in store for them. While there, they find out that the psychic is a little--okay really--weird, but before they leave Frankie notices a corsage that she really likes, so she asks about it, then asks if she can have it. The thing though about the corsage is that it’s cursed, and the psychic said that the person who had it before her was able to make three wishes on it, and they all came true ... which makes Frankie want it even more. However, just because the wishes may come true ... still doesn’t mean that they will turn out to be what she wants to happen.

My Book Review : 1 out of 5 stars. In truth I skimmed this one since it really didn't grab my interest at first. However, what I did read of it does make it feel like a scary story .... and not my usual type of reading ... but those who like the "horror" themes might like this one more so then I did.

Book Teaser :
"Is that a skull?" I asked Will.
Will whistled. "Holy cannoli."
"Okey-doke," Yun Sun said, averting her eyes. "If there really is a skull, I don't want to know about it. Can we leave now?"
I took her head in my hands and pointed her in the right direction. "Look. It still has hair!" ~ within the first few pages

"Madison Avery and the Dim Reaper" [within Prom Nights from Hell] by Kim Harrison

Pages: 60

My Book Summary : Madison recently got sent to live with her father and went from being the high school cool girl to her new high school's zero girl. However, she really didn't realize how bad it was until she was at her new schools prom and found out she was there with a guy as a pity date. OUCH! So, when she plans on going home and finds the hot guy wanting to dance with her instead, she plans on making the other guy find out what he missed. But when she gets into this new guy's car, she finds that there might be more going on then what she originally thought.

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars. I really got into this story and now it makes me curious as to what happens within the series that this author has with this character!! Definitely gotta check this one out!

Book Teaser :
Josh was watching me when I glanced up. The guy with him was trying to get his attention, but Josh's eyes were on mine. Mocking me.
That did it. No way was I going to call my dad. And I wasn't getting into a car with Josh, either. I'd walk it. All five miles. In heels. And a long cotton dress. On a damp April night. With my boobs scrunched together. What was the worst that could happen? ~ within Chapter 1
Teaser #2

"Kiss and Tell" [within Prom Nights from Hell] by Michele Jaffe

Pages: 85

My Book Summary : Miranda lives in a boarding school where her only really friend is her roommate Kenzi. But during her days off (Wednesday & Saturday nights) she either is apart of her roller derby team or working at her jobs as a town car driver. However, ever since she was 10 years old, she has been "hiding in plain sight" trying to hide who she really is and her special powers. But when her latest pick-up assignment is a 14-year-old girl and the drop-off location is a bit shady, she can't just leave her there. So, Miranda makes plans to get the girl out of the situation she's in and protect her .... but how can she do that when she has no idea where to take her?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars. This story was about a super-powered girl (kinda like Jamie in 'Being Jamie Baker') who is still coming into her own and trying to do what's right, all without getting caught. It was better then I expected!

Book Teaser :
Miranda agreed to let Sibby order her own at the drive-through, then regretted it when she heard the girl saying to the guy taking the order, "Do I get a discount if I let you kiss me?"
"Okay, seriously, were you raised on Crazycake? Why do you want to kiss all these guys you don't even know?" Miranda asked.
"There aren't many boys where I come from. And what does knowing them have to do with it? Kissing is great. I kissed four boys on the airplane. I'm hoping to make it twenty-five before the end of the day." ~ within Chapter 4

"Hell on Earth" [within Prom Nights from Hell] by Stephenie Meyer

Pages: 53

My Book Summary : It's prom night and it seems that everyone is having a lousy time. What they don't know is that there is a demon amongst them, named Sheba, and has plans to make everyone miserable before the night is through, so she'll be able to become a higher ranking demon. And little does she know that there is one person at the prom who doesn't know what he really is, and that he has the ability to completely throw off her game.

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars. Really not what I was expecting from this author but still really good! It would be great if she would write more books about this world, since I would really be interested seeing as to where it could go. =0)

Book Teaser :
"I couldn't say," Gabe admitted. "Have you seen her?"
Logan pursed his full lips for a minute, as if debating whether or not to say something. He ran a hand nervously across his springy black hair. "Well, I thought I did. I'm not exactly sure, though. . . .She's wearing a white dress, right?"
"Yeah---where is she?"
"I think I saw her in the lobby. Can't be positive. Her face was sort of hard to see....David Alvarado's face was all over it...."
"David Alvarado?" Gabe repeated in surprise. "Not Heath McKenzie?" ~ within the only Chapter

"Ready or Not" [All-American Girl Series, Book 2] by Meg Cabot

What was I thinking? : Probably that I liked the first book in this series so the second one would be good too .. right?

My Book Summary : Samantha (Sam) deals with the issue of sex. Should she and her boyfriend take the next step in their relationship? However, being known as the girl who saved the president and having a boyfriend who just happens to be the president's son makes the situation even tougher, with all eyes watching them.

My Book Review : 1.5 out of 5 stars. Meg Cabot has a way of writing books that I usually like ... but in this instance the narrative ramblings and worries of Sam make reading the book a very slow process. I mean I did enjoy the highlights throughout the book but I only enjoyed them since I skimmed through to find them once I got sick of reading over and over about her worries. =0P I will say I did like the relationship between Sam and David still, since he understands that she always sticks up for what she believes in ... yet their whole communication issues about the topic of sex got blown way out of proportion. =0/

Book Teaser :
"And Lucy?"

"You do realize," I added awkwardly, "that the same guy who played the Count of Monte Cristo played Jesus in that movie Mel Gibson directed."
It was finally Lucy's turn to look shocked. "He did not!"
"Um, yeah, he did. So, in a way, all those times in the bathtub, you've been---"
"DON'T SAY IT!" Lucy said. And then ran for her room.
