Idolizing In: Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 568 KB | Release Date: May 2011 | Publisher: Jamie McGuire, LLC

"Beautiful Disaster" by Jamie McGuire

My Book Summary : Abby has just started college with her best friend, America, and is trying to stay away from her past or anything that it closely resembles. Not long after starting school, Abby goes to an underground fight ring, through her college, that America and America’s boyfriend, Shepley, take her too and she meets/sees Shepley’s cousin, Travis, who is one of the fighters in the ring. The next day when she officially meets Travis she doesn’t realize just how much her life is about to change. Quickly Abby and Travis become friends. And after Abby looses a bet between them ... they become roommates! However, even though they become closer and they are roommates, they stay ‘just friends’ until their connection gets harder to deny. Yet, it seems like the closer they come to being officially together, and even after they get together, other people, personal choices, and things they’ve left in their pasts seem to try to keep them apart. Can they pull through anything as long as they’re together? Or would it be easier to just stay apart?

My Book Review : 5 out of 5 stars!!!! THIS WAS A WONDERFUL NOVEL!! The author put together a story full of romance, friendship, and the links some would go to just so they could be a part of the person they love’s life. Abby is an intriguing character who had a great back-story, and the author took that story into turns that I never expected. But I absolutely LOVED the friendship and respect that Travis and Abby shared for each other, no matter what happened between them, they were there for each other no matter what. Travis is a strong Alpha male! That made me wish I had someone who worshiped me as much as he did Abby. Okay maybe not exactly as much ... since he was a little overbearing at times but other than that he was just about the perfect guy! *sigh*

In addition, the secondary characters from Travis’ family/relatives to America to Travis and Shepley’s fraternity brothers made this whole novel an addiction that I could not get enough of!

Book Teaser(s) :
"You wouldn't be here if you didn't like me."
My frown involuntarily smoothed and I sighed. "I didn't say you're a bad person. I just don't like being a foregone conclusion for the sole reason of having a vagina." I focused on the grains of salt on the table until I heard a choking noise from Travis' direction.
His eyes widened and he quivered with howling laughter. "Oh my God! You're killing me! That's it. We have to be friends. I won't take no for an answer."
"I don't mind being friends, but that doesn't mean you have to try to get in my panties every five seconds."
"You're not sleeping with me. I get it."
I tried not to smile, but failed.
His eyes brightened. "You have my word. I won't even think about your panties...unless you want me to."
I rested my elbows on the table and leaned into them. "And that won't happen, so we can be friends." ~ within Chapter 1 - titled 'red flag'
"I wanna go bowling tomorrow. I need a partner."
"Bowling? You couldn't have called me later?" I felt like a hypocrite for saying the words, knowing I had hoped for an excuse to keep Parker's lips off of me.
"How am I supposed to know when you're gonna get done? Oh. That didn't come out right..." he trailed off, sounding amused with himself.
"I'll call you tomorrow and we can talk about it then, okay?"
"No, it's not okay. You said you wanna be friends, but we can't hang out?" I rolled my eyes, and Travis huffed. "Don't roll your eyes at me. Are you coming or not?"
"How did you know I rolled my eyes? Are you stalking me?" I asked, noting the drawn curtains.
"You always roll your eyes. Yes? No? You're wasting precious date time."
He knew me so well. I fought the urge to ask him to pick me up right then. I couldn't help but smile at the thought. ~ within Chapter 10 - titled 'poker face'

Made the Grade: Goals for a Sinner by Lynn Shurr

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 307 KB | Release Date: April 2010 | Publisher: The Wild Rose Press

"Goals for a Sinner" by Lynn Shurr

My Book Summary : Stephanie (Stevie) seems to always get involved with the wrong guy ... so she decides to avoid relationships for a while. But one man (Connor) might just brake his own celibacy "pack" that he took for that season (as he's a professional football player) when he runs into Stevie (literally) again after so many years apart and sweep her off her feet.

They begin with a close friendship that turns into something more over time ..... but can their love survive interfering families, careers, injuries, and most of all ... their own pride??

My Book Review : THE BOOK ITSELF I'M GIVING IT - 3.5 out of 5 stars, BUT OVERALL FOR THE KINDLE EDITION - 2 out of 5 stars. The story was well written, thoughtful, and a true love story!!! I would recommend it for anyone wanting to read it in book form, BUT NOT KINDLE FORM!! In the kindle form I had to make-up sentences at the top of every page so at times it was a little hard to follow which wasn't fun at all. =0(

Book Teaser(s) :
"If they need more help, I can sic St. Jude on 'em. He sure came through for me. I stay celibate for the season. Connor gets well and plays again. Maybe I can work another deal for them."
"Joe Dean, you got the simple faith of a child. The Bible says that's a good thang, but you know, folks have to work on their problems, too."
"I don't see why when a prayer and a nice donation to the Catholic Church will take care of the matter."
"Okay, you the man. You call the plays," the Rev said around a mouthful of ham, cheese, and salami. "Who am I to say miracles don't happen?"
"Damn right. I am the quarterback. Yes, I am." ~ within Chapter 20

"Flat-Out Sexy" [Fast Track Series, Book 1] by Erin McCarthy

My Book Summary : Two years after losing her husband, to an accident while he was racing at Talladega, Tamara (Tammy) finally agrees that it's time to start dating again. However, thinking that she should stick to someone more like her turns into flop, especially when she brings him to a NASCAR charity fundraiser and finally realizes she can't force chemistry and brakes up with him. It's at that same fundraiser that she runs into Elec .... literally ... and gets red wine all over his shirt. Not recognizing each other they chat and flirt a bit before walking away. However, when Tamara can't find her purse, a friend of hers (and best friend of her dead husband) sets her up to have Elec to take her to his coach at the racetrack for the night. During the cab ride, Elec remembers who she is, Tamara finds that chemistry just happens when you find the right person, and they find it really easy to talk and be around each other. One thing leads to another and they both decide to stay the night together .....

However, by the next morning Tamara realizes who this intriguing man is .... Elec!! ... who just happens to be a younger man (not by much ... only 6 yrs), and who is also a racecar driver (who she really never wanted to get involved with that type again). So ... even though Tamara tries to give the brush off to Elec, he is persistent in wanting to see her even if it is just a fling ... even though after a few more days of getting to know each other, he wants more.

Will Tamara be able to get over her list of reasons that they should be apart (the age difference, his career choice, and her children are only the top reasons she has)? Can she get over her insecurities and worries to be able to find out where a future with Elec could lead? Or will she decide the time that they have already shared is enough and to walk away before someone (him, her, her kids) gets hurt ...

My Book Review : 4.5 out of 5 stars!! Elec --- really MAKES this novel! He is sweet, kind, HOT, thoughtful, and I wish I could have my own Elec! *hehee* Otherwise .... This novel had a great mix of life on the road, dealing with relationships, and trying to be with someone who you feel great with -- while dealing with the reality of everything around you. Tamara is a great main character ... she knows what she think she wants but even though she doesn't always agree with Elec she at least believes in him .... so the drama that is in this novel really flows and progresses instead of being drawn out -- which is one of the best things about this novel. Plus ... the secondary characters were great too! This novel was fun, HOT, and refreshing!! I recommend it for any female!! =0)

My Previous Review(s) for this Author : The Pregnancy Test

Book Teaser(s) :
She flushed, feeling the heat rise up her neck and into her cheeks. "It's not what it looks like," she said to Ryder, which was perhaps the stupidest thing she had ever said in her entire life.
That ridiculous lie in the face of the obvious seemed to break through Ryder's shock. He burst out with a laugh. "Oh, I think it's exactly what it looks like." He grinned. "Guess Elec saw you home safely. Knew I could count on him." ~ within Chapter 3
Tamara knew the minute Ty and Ryder spotted Elec because Ty muttered, "Well, well, check out the rookie," and Ryder responded right back, "Guess no grass grows under his feet."
They both were grinning at her when she turned around and glared at them.
The men greeted each other. "Hey, guys, what's up?" Elec said, Hunter snuggled into his arms.
"We brought candy for the kids." Ty held up the potentially eight-pound bag of sugar and told Elec, "Maybe if you're good, we'll let you have a piece."
"I'm always good," Elec said.
"That true, Tammy?" Ryder asked her with a grin.
She refused to respond to that. ~ within Chapter 9

Feasted On: Slippery When Wet by Kimberly Raye

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 398 KB | Release Date: July 2011 | Publisher: Ten Talents Press

"Slippery When Wet" by Kimberly Raye

My Book Summary : Jaycee and Rory grew up on the racetrack together and over the years, they have grown apart all because of misunderstandings and family commitments. Now fifteen years later and six months after Jaycee's father has died, she is dealing with coming to terms with an older sister she never knew about, and with a sponsor who isn't happy with her image. While lately, Rory is getting setup for a major racing season, starting with winning the first race at Daytona. However, after he gets his first glimpse of Jaycee's "new look" old feelings for her come roaring back to the surface. Determined that she is doing this to throw off Rory's game, he is determined to beat Jaycee at her own game by pursuing her to get her out of his system, hoping when he does things can go back to normal. Little does he know that even though moving ahead on the racetrack would be great for Jaycee, she has other issues to deal with like her only sponsor dropping her if she gets a physical and emotional makeover so she can "promote them better." Nevertheless, when they start being in closer proximity to each other then they have in years ..... will they really want to walk away from each other after they get their fill of one another??

My Book Review : 4.5 out of 5 stars!! Even though I'm not really a NASCAR fan .... I just cannot seem to get enough of the stories on the fictional drivers and their crews ... and this one has just made it on my top list for these type of novels!! Jaycee is a young woman who is still growing into her adult/womanhood and you get to see how she develops into the woman she wants to be instead of who everyone keeps tell her she is or needs to be. Plus ... you have the added bonus of a HOT romance between Rory and Jaycee ... and they both deal with finding out who they really are and who they want to be in the future. Very intriguing!

Book Teaser(s) :
"Of course. But remember, she didn't have her own personal arsenal of experts to get her ready this morning. She had to do it herself, so naturally she's having an adjustment period."
"How much of an adjustment?"
"She's a NASCAR driver, not Max Factor."
"It's a little mascara and some lipstick. How hard can it be?"
So sayeth the typical man. ~ within Chapter 12

"The Pregnancy Test" [NY Girlfriends Series, Book 1] by Erin McCarthy

My Book Summary : All in a short time span Mandy's life has changed ... she closed her toy shop, her boyfriend broke up with her, and she found out she is pregnant!! Now she really needs to find a job with good benefits, so she doesn't live off of her parents funds, and so she can take care of her child. Thankfully her roommate was able to set her up with an interview as an assistant. An interview where she definitely makes a lasting impression, by puking in his wastebasket in front of him (which is located between his legs at the time), and gets hired for the job. Now she just has to contend with working for a man, Damien, who has a nickname of Demon, who asks like an ogre, who has made his previous secretary cry, and who has some baggage of his own to deal with.

These seemingly different people are about to find that one person who could make everything better, only if they can trust each other and get over their pasts/baggage ... is it possible?

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars. A sweet, hot, and funny story where you root for the two main characters from the beginning!! Mandy is a great character .... her plot about being pregnant (and everything that goes along with that) is really well written and thought out. Where Damien's past is revealed in a way where you want good things for him and it makes you wish you could help him out too. The chemistry between these two just sparks off of the pages!

The only reason this novel didn't get a better/higher rating was because of how Mandy's roommates try to get involved and meddle things up .... it was very annoying and unnecessary for the plot.

Book Teaser(s) :
I was thinking about Cecilia for a girl and Simon for a boy.
Her heart swelled a little at the thought of giving a name to her child. Giving him or her an identity.
I don't know...those sound very British.
All the good feelings she'd been having fled.
I am British!
"Bloody idiot." ~ within Chapter 17

  • Today's "Waiting On" Wednesday by Jill - click here

  • "Dark Predator" [Dark Series, Book 22] by Christine Feehan
    Publication Released Date: September 6, 2011

    Author's Book Description:
      An immortal comes to the end of a long and violent journey and finds a far more dangerous threat in this dark and thrilling novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling Carpathian series.

      As brutal as the undead he hunted, executioner Zacarias De La Cruz’s savage journey is over. After a thousand years in a gray world, he has accomplished everything he set out to do. His brothers are safeguarded, and each has a woman who completes them. But with centuries as a killing machine now left to the past and without a hunt to define him, Zacarias wonders, for the first time in his life, who he really is.

      The answer awaits him in the vengeance of an old enemy, in the consequences of a bloody family legacy, and in Marguarita, a woman he once saved—his lifemate, his deliverance, and the greatest risk yet to both their lives.

    Christine's novels are usually always compelling and with the Dark series she rarely strikes-out each new installment! I can't wait to see what she will turn out next!

    "Home" [Alpha Series, Book 3] by Treva Harte

    My Book Summary : When you live in a small pack, your one of the lowest in that pack, and your not mated/claimed yet .... means you have to do things that you might not really want to do. Like be given to another pack in the prospect of getting pregnant by one of their unmated males, with little to no input from yourself. This is the situation that Mia soon finds herself in.

    To make matters worse ... the chosen male that she is told she will plan to have sex with in hopes of becoming pregnant by is Grey, who as of late has more interest in guys then any girl. So, there is little hope that Grey will find Mia even attractive enough to have sex with, let alone get her pregnant.

    However, there might be hope if Rome (another male in Grey's pack) can help the two out. Since Mia has always had a crush on Rome and is kinda scared of Grey, Grey has only had eyes for Rome for years now, and Rome just happens to really like them both. This may work out as long as Mia's other "male suitors" don't end up getting in the way or killing them ....

    My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars ... this was a VERY cute and HOT story!! It has a GREAT plot, so if you don't read the other books in this series (like I didn't) then you still won't be left out, and it kept me intrigued to the very end about what would happen next.

    Book Teaser(s) :
    Grey looked at one grinning were and then the other. "You two are beyond crude. You're freakin' perverted."
    Mia slurped her dessert this tome. Rome began to peel another banana.
    "Want some, Grey?" Rome offered. "There's plenty more where that came from. You probably need to keep your energy levels up."
    "Sick and not ashamed of it," Grey growled.
    "Maybe Grey would prefer to see...a cucumber." Mia leaned against the counter and tilted her head back to catch a stray spill of her confection. Rome snorted. ~ within Chapter 3

    Made the Grade: Pitcher Perfect by Devina Douglas

    Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 496 KB | Release Date: April 9, 2011 | Publisher: Amazon Digital Services

    "Pitcher Perfect" by Devina Douglas

    My Book Summary : This is the sequel to Devina's "What A Catch" novel ... which if you haven't read then don't worry as you can catch up on all of the back story within this one.

    So .... in this novel, you read what happens during two years of Alyssa (Allie) and Alex's lives. It starts off with Allie being recently dumped by Alex's best friend. Running into each other not long afterwards, they start a friendship between them that wasn't that strong before. Then in an unexpected twist of fate, Alex moves into Allie's apartment, and over a period of time stepping up their relationship from just friends to best friends.

    Alex and Allie get so close, over the months of living together and other circumstances that they knew more about each other than they've ever told anyone else, which gets very hard for the multiple relationships that they get into with other people.

    After a while, Allie learns that her feelings for Alex are stronger then the platonic loving sisterly friendship that she's been having with him, and doesn't know how to proceed. However, things turn their relationship/friendship to the worst when Alex says and does things that could irrevocably change everything they have between them. Will Alex give up the one person who has been there for him the most or will he be able to save everything and win her back??

    My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars .... I loved this book but why it didn't get 5 stars was because I think Allie was too undecided about her relationship with Alex after the fallout between them happened. Otherwise it was a great book ... from the baseball antics to the minor character's story lines!

    Book Teaser(s) :
    "Will someone tell me where Claire went?" Alex tried again when he felt he could get a word in edgewise over the cacophony.
    "Scott broke up with her for you," Sandy replied, trying to regain her composure, yet still hiding behind her drink.
    Still towering about them, Alex seemed baffled by the idea. "You did what?"
    "You're kidding?" Allie hissed. "No, seriously. Where are they?"
    Katherine leaned forward in her seat and smiled matter-of-factly. "Scott broke up with her. She left." ~ within Chapter VII - titled 'MARCH-MAY, ONE YEAR AGO'
