"The Memory Jar" [Seven Brides for Seven Bachelors Series, Book 1] by Tricia Goyer

My Book Summary : For an Amish woman Sarah is unique. She grew up in a small town/Amish community in Montana where her parents never had a problem with her having friendships with English people that they deal with on a daily basis. One thing that Sarah loves to do is bake, however, she is not the typical Amish baker since, even though she knows how to bake bread and other typical Amish baked goods, she LOVES to create/bake cupcakes. Her best friend Patty has encouraged her since she was young to follow her dreams of owning her own bakery. However, that dream seems to get further and further away as the years pass. Especially since, she would need to find a husband that would support her dream and encourage it and not want her to just take care of their home, and with no husband prospects, Sarah is finding that her dreams might be all that they will amount to.

Sarah world was shaken two years ago when her best friend, Patty, dies in a canoeing accident. Since then Sarah has put all her efforts into her baked goodies as a way to get over her loss, yet in the process, she seems to have kept everyone at arms length from her as a way to protect herself.

Therefore, when Jathan comes into her life she doesn't initially see the type of man he is. Nevertheless, on a hiking trip gone array they find they have a lot in common and both really like each other, if only they are able to follow their personal dreams and open their hearts they might just make it.

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars. It's a sweet and endearing romance. About getting over a terrible loss while fulfilling dreams that would give them a better purpose then what is planned for them. An easy read that kept me guessing a lot of the way through, but with memories throughout that had me crying by the end of this novel. I loved reading about the bond between Patty & Sarah it was so sweet and touching while at times it felt as though some of the things that Patty says were as if she was looking into the future. Very special and I recommend having tissues by you when you read the last few chapters.

I liked the gradual romance between Jathan and Sarah. However, even though I know Jathan was only trying to stick to the traditions he grew up with and some that were forced on him, I didn't like some of the choices he made or the way he let his family walk all over him. In addition, I wasn't a fan of how his mother handled things when it came to Sarah towards the end, I understand her point-of-view about to many changes at her bakery, but to try shutting out Sarah from having any contact to Jathan I thought was a little too much. Therefore, if I was being truthful and rating this book on the romance between Jathan and Sarah then I'd have to give this novel 3.5 out of 5 stars. Yet I gave it the score I did because of how much I loved the forever friendship between Sarah and Patty. =0)

Overall, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys Amish novels and contemporary romances.

- On a side note -
I found the brief Amish glossary in the front of the book very helpful! =0)

Teaser #1 ~ within Chapter 1
"Do you want to catch a bachelor?" Jathan asked as he gently set her down.
The question caught her off guard, and her ankle ached as seen as her foot touched down. She stumbled slightly. Sarah grabbed Jathan's arm to steady herself.
"Uh, ne," she answered. "I'm not wanting to catch anyone ... else." She swallowed hard and squeezed his arm. She couldn't believe she'd added that last word, but seeing his face brighten, she continued, "What is the Englisch saying, 'A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush'?"
Jathan chuckled, his laughter causing her heart to dance. "Well, Sarah, if I'm a bird, I'm a big one. But I don't mind being caught, not one bit." ~ within Chapter 12
"Spreading out light, that's what it's all about," Patty said. And then she finally submitted to a yawn.
Sarah covered her mouth with her hand and did the same. "
Ja, the world needs more of it, don't you think?"
"Not only the world but our neighbors." Patty stretched. "Sometimes it seems the ones who have the light are the worst at realizing all they hold within. With sharing it."
~ within Chapter 20

"Princess Ever After" [The Royal Wedding Series, Book 2] by Rachel Hauck

Author's Book Description : Regina Beswick never dreamed of faraway places. She’s happy with her life as a classic car mechanic and owner of a restoration shop.

But an unexpected visitor and the discovery of a fairytale, drawn by her great-grandma, causes Regina to wonder if she might be destined for something more.

Tanner Burkhardt, Minister of Culture for the Grand Duchy of Hessenberg, must convince the strong-willed Southerner, Miss Beswick, that she is his country’s long-lost princess. Failure could destroy his reputation and change his nation forever.

As Regina and Tanner face the challenges before them, neither are prepared for love to invade their hearts and change every thing they believe about themselves.

However, when a royal opponent nearly destroys Regina’s future, she must lean into God and trust He has sovereignly brought her to her true and final destiny.

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars!! Regina (Reggie) thought she had it all and was on the life path/career path that she was supposed to be on, that is until dashing Tanner comes into her life throwing her a curve ball that she is a princess. Now she needs to visit her great grandmothers home country in hopes of learning about this place that her Gram had to run away from and see if she can turn it around for the better. That is, if she finally decides to commit to being the Princess that everyone expects her to be....

Together, Reggie and Tanner make a great team! Tanner deals with Reggie's hesitation about her "new life" very calmly and helps guide her through all the new rough patches with ease. Plus, because of Reggie's determination, once she agrees to fulfill this part of her new path she really steps up to the plate! Add the fact that their attraction to each other is immediate and ignites very quickly into love, this is one story that wraps you up in it's fairytale and doesn't let go!

In addition, I also liked how Tanner's "big secret" was played out. It makes you like him as a character even more. Especially with the way, it's revealed to the reader and then how it's handled afterwards. Yet, it did make me really dislike his ex. =0/

I recommend this novel and series to anyone who likes Christian romantic fairytales!! =0)

"Insane girl! Is that how you speak to your princess?" She powered forward, scattering the last lingering, daredevil photographers.
"Yes, when she acts like she's lost her last marble." Panic infused his words. "Open the door, Regina."
"I need to think." She gunned the car forward, laying on the horn again. A photographer with a death wish had stepped in front of her. "Maybe I have lost my last marble."

"Beloved" [Where the Heart Lives Series, Book 3] by Robin Lee Hatcher

My Book Summary : When Diana was a naive teenager, at 18-years-old, she met and became instantly infatuated with Tyson--the 25-year-old son of a wealthy mine owner--who swept her off her feet, got her into a quick marriage, and then after a few months he abandoned her because of his father. Now after seven years apart and thinking that Tyson has been dead during the last two, Diana is about to announce her engagement to another man (someone she likes but doesn't love) when Tyson sweeps back into her life, alive and well, and wanting to make amends between them...

...along with wanting her to help out with his political campaign.

After coming to an agreement between them, Diana and Tyson living together for six months for his campaign then parting amicably unless Tyson can win her back for good, they find that they both have changed in ways that neither expected and both admire. However, will the changes between them be enough to keep them together and ignite their hearts or will they find they both aren't able to get over their pasts?

My Book Review : 5 out of 5 stars! This fast paced, heart wrenching, historical romance is one that I had a hard time putting down I liked it so much! All of the characters have so much dimension and emotional growth to them throughout this novel that it was hard not to like each of them in some way, well except for Brook of course. With the way this novel is laid out, I believe Diana and Tyson needed their time apart to grow and become the wonderful people they turned out to be, since when they both first got together they weren't a good match up because of how they both were hoping for different things. Tyson and Diana balance each other out in ways that are so sweet and entertaining as they find ways to bring their lives together. In addition, I really liked how everything is wrapped up in the end!

I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys historical romances!

"He should be put out of his misery, ma'am."
"No!" Ned cried. "You're not gonna shoot him. Miss Diana ain't gonna let you do that."
"Ned," she answered quickly, "we'll have to do what's best for the animal."
The boy's eyes narrowed. "You didn't shoot me when I was hurt."
"Of course not. It's not the same thing."
"Who says?"
"Ned---"
"I ain't gonna let you do it." The defiant look disappeared replaced by tears in his eyes. "He's a good dog. Not his fault he's sick."
Diana drew a deep breath before looking at the groom again. "Send for the veterinary surgeon, Mr. Romano. And let's make the dog as comfortable as we can until he gets here."
"Yes, ma'am."
The stable boy was dispatched for the animal doctor, and Claude Romano moved the ailing canine into an empty stall, placing him on a bed of straw covered with a horse blanket. Ned didn't let anything or anyone keep him too far from the dog.
Lord, please don't let Dog die. Please let him live. I know there are greater problems in the world, but this matters so much to Ned.
"Diana?"
She turned around at the sound of Tyson's voice, unreasonably glad he'd returned.
"Upchurch said there was some sort of problem down at the stables."
"Not a problem, really." She stepped out of the stall and drew her husband a short distance from the opening. "Ned's dog is sick. We've sent for the veterinary surgeon."
"Ned's dog?"
"Yes."
"I didn't know he had a dog."
A full explanation seemed too complicated now, so she shrugged as she looked toward the stall again.
"I suppose it's going to end up living in the house too," Tyson said under his breath.
She heard him . . . and couldn't keep from smiling. ~ within Chapter 15

"The Dandelion Field" by Kathryn Springer

Author's Book Description : The handsome firefighter makes a living “coming to the rescue,” but Gin is used to fighting her own battles.

Nothing has ever come easy for single mom Ginevieve Lightly. Over the years, she’s managed to pay the bills waitressing, and she is deeply devoted to her daughter, Raine. Gin has been satisfied moving from city to city, never putting down roots or making commitments. But when engine trouble temporarily strands them in the small town of Banister Falls, Wisconsin, Gin promises her daughter they will stay put until Raine graduates from high school in the spring.
Dan Moretti couldn’t imagine a life without Evie, but she married his best friend. After Max died while fighting a huge blaze, Dan has looked out for Evie and her son, Cody. Evie has always made it clear she thinks of him only as a friend, but Dan has secretly held out hope that her feelings would change. When a small town scandal erupts, Dan is caught in the middle and his loyalty put to the test when he realizes his feelings are the ones that are changing. He’s falling for a beautiful, unconventional waitress named Gin.
As Cody and Raine move closer to making decisions that will affect the rest of their lives, Dan makes a decision, too. But can he convince a woman who doesn’t believe in happy endings to take a chance on a new beginning . . . with him?

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars! Living the "gypsy lifestyle" because it's what you're accustomed to isn't a bad thing. Yet when circumstances change and it’s now up to your daughter to decide about her own future instead of you to do so, you just have to be there to pick up the pieces and hope for the best. That's what Ginevieve (Gin) does, forcing her to stay in one place for the longest time she's had to in years. Now if Gin can protect her heart from Daniel (Dan -- a handsome fire fighter who tries to help out) and the rest of the small town her daughter and her ended up in than everything will be fine.

This dynamic novel has you following Dan & Gin through their struggle to follow God and assist Cody & Raine (Gin's daughter) through their stressful situation. In truth, I was surprised by the twists this novel took me on but happy I was able to enjoy myself along the way. Dan & Gin are wonderful counterpoints to each other, making it so Dan feels more compelled to lean on Gin and have Gin lean on him than his close friend Evie who he has supported mostly over the years. Together they are very sweet and I wish I could have read more about them. Nevertheless, while I enjoyed how it ended, especially Dan's big romantic gesture, it fell short of what I had hoped for as the novel seemed to be building up to something bigger then what actually happens. In addition, I would have loved to read an epilogue to get a brief update about everyone’s lives.

Yet, with all that said, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and recommend it to those who like contemporary Christian romances that deal with meaningful topics.

Book Teaser(s) :
The moment Gin drove underneath the metal arch anchored between two brick pillars, the name Rosewood Court entwined in a banner of vines and flowers, she scratched the notion that she and Evie Bennett had anything in common.
"We're not in Kansas anymore," Gin muttered under her breath.
"It's that one." Raine pointed to a two-story brick house rising from the center of the cul-de-sac like a miniature castle. "I know what you're thinking."
"What am I thinking?" Gin parked on the street behind a hunter green pickup, the vehicle of choice for roughly 80 percent of the male population in Banister Falls.
"You're thinking Cody's mom is a snob because she lives in a nice house. Which is just as bad as people thinking we're trashy because we live in the trailer park."
"Well, you're wrong, Miss Smarty-pants." She was thinking that Evie Bennett had made out pretty good in the divorce. ~ within Chapter 9
"Come on, Mom." Raine tugged her forward.
Gin didn't want to go forward. She wanted to go home and change clothes. "Why didn't you tell me everyone was going to be dressed like Cinderella?" she hissed.
"You look great, Mom."
A simple black dress without a sequin or speck of glitter did not fall into the category of "great." Not even close. "I look like one of the caterers."
"No you don't. They're wearing aprons."
Gin gave her a mock scowl and added a nudge for good measure. "Brat." ~ within Chapter 53

About the Author :

Kathryn Springer, winner of the 2007 Write Touch Reader’s Award (long contemporary), grew up in a small town in northern Wisconsin, where her parents published a weekly newspaper. As a child, she spent many hours sitting at her mother’s typewriter, plunking out stories, and credits her parents for instilling in her a love of books – which eventually turned into a desire to tell stories of her own.

After a number of busy years, when she married her college sweetheart and became a stay-at-home mom, Kathryn rediscovered her love for writing. An unexpected snow day from school became the inspiration for a short story, which she submitted to Brio magazine. She went on to publish over a dozen more short stories for Brio, but it wasn’t until her youngest child started school that she decided to pursue her dream to write a novel. In August 2004, her Love Inspired® debut novel, "Tested by Fire," was published.

Encouraging women in their faith journey is the reason Kathryn loves to write inspirational fiction. She hosts a women’s Bible study in her home and volunteers in a local MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) ministry. When she isn’t at the computer, you’ll find her curled up with a good book, spending time with family and friends or walking on the trails near her country home.
