"Calling It" [Calling It Series, Book 1] by Jen Doyle

Author's Book Description : Baseball player Nathan Hawkins needs to get away from Chicago. After a near career-ending car accident and with paparazzi surrounding his penthouse, Nate can only think of one place to go: home. But when he finds his old apartment occupied by a half-naked woman wielding a baseball bat, he’s not sure what to think…except that maybe his luck has finally changed for the better.

Librarian Dorie Donelli never thought she’d get to meet her fantasy man in person–much less while she’s wearing her bathrobe. To her surprise, her nearly naked run-in with Nate leads to more unclothed encounters. But Dorie is sure their fling is only temporary. As long as she remembers he’ll be gone once his life gets back on track, she won’t get hurt. In the meantime, she throws herself into enjoying their three weeks together before he has to report for spring training and go back to his old life.

For Nate, being with Dorie is the only time in months that he finds himself smiling. Laughing. And he has no intention of letting that go. He might even befalling in love…if only Dorie will let him say the words. What they have isn’t just a dream, but the start of a dream come true.

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! A top playing baseball catcher goes home during his off-season with hopes of straightening out his life. Though who he finds to help him along the way is the one woman that he can't seem to get enough of and who doesn't want anything more from him other than a fling? Can he prove to her that they'll be able to last?

This hilariously drama filled contemporary romance was unexpected yet has a "down to earth" feel to it too. I enjoyed the build-up this plot has, while I was thoroughly entertained by its characters. It’s a wonderful baseball romance that reminded me a bit of Ms. Tan's “The Hot Streak.”

Like Nate (Nathan), I LOVED the way he met Dorie (Lucinda). They have a light hilarity between them that carries through this novel and draws its readers into their relationship even more. Yet, it was their intense connection that moved me and had me rooting for them from the beginning.

My only wish was that the last four chapters were written better so I could've liked Dorie more. I understand she was scared but she took the drama to a level that it really didn't need to go.

Nevertheless, I DO recommend this novel for those wanting a unique contemporary baseball romance.

That she'd managed not to lay herself down on that bed and invite him to join her was a miracle. Either that or the dumbest thing she'd ever done in her entire life.
Really. A night with Nate Hawkins? Who turned down a chance like that?
Dorie Donelli, apparently. ~ within Chapter 4
She fell into him, gripping his shoulders as his hands went to her hips. His eyes locked on to hers and everything came to a thundering halt as the earth stopped spinning on its axis. The building could have fallen down around them and he wouldn't have cared. He has to count to ten in Japanese, for fuck's sake, in order not to dip his head down and kiss her. No, claim her.
Fuck.
Two days, he'd known her. Two days. ~ within Chapter 9

Blog Tour - One More Taste by Melissa Cutler | Interview & Spreading the Word

Today I'm showing off Melissa Cutler's "One More Taste," which is her recently released novel, the SECOND novel in her One and Only Texas Series, and the novel I recently interviewed her about!

My Q&A with Melissa Cutler :

Jess : Please describe "One More Taste" in one sentence.

Melissa : When a brazen chef tries to prove her chops to her sexy new boss, they heat up a lot more than the kitchen.

Jess : What can readers expect from "One More Taste?"

Melissa : Readers can expect my signature combination of a book full of both humor and emotional resonance…with one seriously spicy romance woven throughout it.

Jess : Which of your characters would you most & least like to invite to dinner, from which book and why?

Melissa : The characters from this series that I’d most like to invite to dinner are all those hot, sexy cowboy heroes (surprise, surprise!). Decker, Micah, Knox, and (from upcoming books) Paul and Gentry. Mmm….sexy cowboy heroes at my dinner table…now there’s a dream come true!

The character from the series that I’d least like to have over for dinner, and which readers of the series would probably agree with me, is Ty Briscoe, the villain of the first three stories.

Jess : Are there any differences and/or similarities between Emily from "One More Taste" and Carina from "The Mistletoe Effect?"

Melissa : While Emily and Carina are best friends, they have very different personalities. Carina is all about becoming a mom and not working too hard, which is a shift because she used to be a work-a-holic, which Emily still is. On the other hand, Carina is a rule follower, while Emily is more of a rebel. What they do have in common is that they love each other and their home of Briscoe Ranch Resort very much.

Jess : Out of all of the secondary characters within One and Only Texas Series, do you have one or two favorites so far? If so, who are they and can you tell us why?

Melissa : What a fun question. I tend to write books that have huge casts of characters, so there are lots of secondary characters to choose from. My current favorite is from next year’s release, "ONE WILD NIGHT," and it’s the heroine’s grandmother, Mama Lita, who clashes with Granny June at every turn because, while Granny June is the consummate matchmaker of the series, Mama Lita is a wild spirit who doesn’t believe a woman needs a man in her life.

Jess : June Briscoe is one of my favorite characters. She's appeared in all the books. How did you come up with her and her amazing personality (sneakiness, quirks and all)?

Melissa : She’s one of my favorite characters in the series, too. When I wrote her character’s first ever scene, in scene one of "THE MISTLETOE EFFECT," she seemed like an old, strict Italian mafia grandma with old world superstitions at first, which probably would have been fine, but I then wrote a draft that lightened her up and turned her into the scene’s comic relief…and I instantly fell in love with her! Hence, the Granny June we all know and love was born.

Jess : Where did your love of books/storytelling/reading/writing/etc. come from?

Melissa : Growing up, my house wasn’t a pleasant one, and so I kept to myself in my bedroom as much as possible. In a huge way I’m grateful for the way my childhood played out, because my imagination flourished. The earliest I can remember writing stories and poems is age four. Writing them and reading books took me away to other times and places and let me live, for a little while, in magical places. Even then, I knew I was a writer, an identity that stayed with me in all the years since.

Jess : What do you think most characterizes your writing?

Melissa : What most characterizes my writing is a combination of humor and emotion weight. I’m really interested in real issues and the struggles that everyday people face in their lives, not just romantically, but with family and friends and their careers. My heroines tend to be quirky, smart, career-focused women and my heroes tend to be blue collar workers. In that way, Knox Briscoe, the hero of "ONE MORE TASTE," is unusual. I rarely write about wealthy men because they don’t tend to hold my interest, but what I love about Knox is how he rose to wealth from blue collar roots, which makes his relationship to his wealth and his family really complicated in the best, juiciest possible way for an author to explore.

Jess : What question(s) do you wish that someone would ask about "One More Taste," but no one has? Please write it out here, then answer it.

Melissa :
  1. Have you ever executed a revenge plot (like Knox does in the story)?
    • Mwahahaha! I’ll never tell! 😃
  2. Has your car or house ever been haunted by a dead relative?
    • No, but I fully plan on returning to my high school to haunt it after I pass away like the ghosts at Hogwarts do in the Harry Potter series. [kids whispering to each other] “They say she never recovered from getting that C in Spanish her freshman year, and now she walks the halls begging for extra credit to raise her grade. Poor, tortured soul.”
Jess : If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Melissa : I can’t decide between these two: 1) controlling the weather, or 2) having the power to heal people with a touch. Either one would make the world a better place in significant ways.

Jess : What literary character is most like you?

Melissa : Depends on the day. You know how it goes—some days you’re George, while other days you’re Lenny. Captain Ahab pops up every so often. And Jack Reacher, sometimes. And then there are those days that we all have when we’re Frankenstein’s monster. Mostly, I aspire to be Olivia, the pig from the children’s picture book. Oh, if we could all be more like Olivia.

Book Excerpt/Teaser(s) :

A knock sounded at the open door. Everyone turned, relieved at the distraction. A woman Knox would recognize anywhere filled the doorway, a folder clutched in her arms and a hard-set look of determination on her face. Chef Emily Ford.

***

“Ty told me about you. You’ve worked at this resort since right out of culinary school a decade ago. No internships, no stints as a sous chef at a celebrated restaurant, nothing remarkable, not even a chef competition show on TV. Your whole career, you’ve been here at Briscoe Ranch, laboring in obscurity. If you’re so talented, then why have you been holding yourself back?”

He watched the shift of her weight from one foot to the other, the extra squeeze she gave the folder in her hand. He’d hit a nerve. Good. Turnabout was fair play.

“I’m not holding myself back. All the years I’ve worked here, laboring in obscurity”—she said with a scoff—“I’ve had the freedom to cook what I want, every dish completely original instead of imitations of more prominent chefs or attempts to pander to critics’ fickle tastes. Over the last decade, I’ve risen from a graveyard-shift line cook in the room service kitchen to the executive catering chef, one of the principal roles at the resort.” She spun the folder onto his desk and speared a finger on it. “A few months ago, Ty agreed to my proposal to open a high-concept, signature restaurant at the resort. Subterranean, I’m going to call it. We were in the process of securing funding when you showed up and ruined everything.”

He took a step nearer to her, then another, stopping just short of arm’s length. This close, those freckles on her cheeks came into focus again, as did a faint, hairline scar along her jaw that curved to her chin. He refocused on her furious green eyes. “I did not take this opportunity away from you. Ty did. He was the one who contacted me, looking for investors. My presence here to execute my vision for the resort, as well as the timing of it, was at his invitation. If he let you believe your restaurant would be possible under this new vision, then he was stringing you along. He’s your enemy, not me.”

Emily blanched, but only for a split second before recovering her wits. “He wasn’t stringing me along. I’m sure he was grooming me for your takeover, knowing you’d want to step up the caliber of the resort’s dining options. He’s not my enemy. He’s the employer who gave me a chance. All I need is an open door and a budget and I will give you the restaurant of your vision.”

She’d been dead on about his sixth sense and the rush he got with each thrill of discovery. He felt that familiar rush right now while sparring with her. He couldn’t wait for her to leave so he could read her proposal. He should have eaten the damn soup. Now he’d never know what he’d missed. “You and I aren’t so different in our ambition, you know.”

She sniffed at that, feigning a nonchalance he saw right through. “You couldn’t be more wrong. I possess a patience that you clearly lack.”

Oh, this woman. She wouldn’t stop pushing his buttons. He felt heat rising on his neck. He had to stuff his hand in his pockets so he wouldn’t give in to the discomfort and tug his tie loose. Emily had no idea how much patience it had taken to wait for the right time to make his move against Ty Briscoe. Years of planning and strategy, years of positioning himself in the right business, with the right connections, silently closing in on his prey, waiting to pounce until the time was right—until the prey thought it was his idea and came to him, on the verge of bankruptcy and begging for a bailout.

“Prove it,” he heard himself say, not knowing exactly what he meant by the dare.

Her gaze was unflinching. “How?”

He had to think fast. “I’ll give you four weeks. If you can prove to me in that time that you’re as gifted a chef as you claim, then I’ll hand you the reins of the restaurant along with whatever budget you require for this . . . Subterranean.”

Made the Grade: No Mistletoe Required by Jeanette Murray

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon: Kindle Edition - File Size: 276 KB | Expected Release Date: November 5, 2012 | Publisher: Carina Press | Obtained: NetGalley

"No Mistletoe Required" by Jeanette Murray (aka Kat Murray)

Author's Book Description : Dan Beckins isn’t sure how he let his best friend con him into volunteering to build Santa’s Winter Wonderland at the local hospital. He’s got no problems with charity work, but anything Christmas-related is off-limits ever since he lost his parents on Christmas Day years ago. The only bright spot is working with smoking-hot Anna Smith.

Anna Smith loves Christmas and volunteering at the hospital is one of her yearly highlights. She had leukemia as a teen and then a breast cancer scare in her mid-twenties, and is now operating under a self-imposed rule that she can’t have a relationship until the doctors give her a clean bill of health.

A little fling might be permissible, though, and sexy lawyer-turned-carpenter Dan seems like the perfect candidate. But when chemistry flares and the two start forming a real connection, will Anna run away before like turns to love?

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars, one Ebenezer Scrooge-type of guy meets the one Holiday Cheer-filled woman who is able to turn his life upside down and show him what the spirit of Christmas is all about.

This sweetly written contemporary romance keeps you laughing the whole way through. I liked how Ms. Murray handles both Anna and Dan’s background stories, making the readers sympathize with the characters while still getting into the holiday spirit of it all! Together I found Anna and Dan to be a great pair. Plus their sex scenes were just steamy enough to keep a reader engrossed while leaving their relationship believable enough that you were rooting for them from beginning to end!

My only wish was that the ending could have been less rushed through, yet overall I DO recommend this novel to those looking for a slightly erotic sweet Christmas romance!

Dan's first few Santa visits had been touch-and-go, but the kids were so young that they didn't look past the costume to see if Santa had any actual enthusiasm for the job. With each child that left his lap with a smile, he relaxed just a little more. Joked just a little more. And after a little bit, started developing his own dramatic Santa voice and belly-deep Santa laugh. The entire thing was completely charming.
And, she had to admit to herself, more than a little erotic. The laugh and the attitude that went with it were doing things to her. And, oh God, she was totally hot for Santa. ~ within Chapter 4

My Book Review : 5 out of 5 stars!! King Marek travels to a neighboring kingdom with plans to meet the other King's daughter and agree to marry her, even though he isn't very hopeful or even happy about getting married for again he does need an heir. However, his plans change as soon as he sees then meets Carina, deciding to take her as a mistress instead, setting them both on a path neither expected...

WOW!! I am in love with this intensely dynamic fast-paced novel! It was like a fantasy driven Cinderella romance with surprising twists the whole way through. I especially liked that even if some of the twists made Marek behave in a way I didn't like this novel’s fast-pace made it so you couldn't dwell on his dumb behavior that long as there was more action to get into.

Carina made this novel with her sweet ways and strong defiant courage. Yet, her being with Marek brought me back for more. Their connection is shown as being all-consuming but in a way where they both benefit and strengthen each other. I'm very interested in seeing what else will come their way and their relationship growing because of it.

On a different note, can I say, “oh how I HATE Sampson!” I knew from the beginning that I didn't like his attitude but after what he did all I can say is that I loath him. In addition, really I'm curious if his character could really be redeemed. Since through it all he kept saying that he honored Marek and thought of him as a brother. So, I wonder what his true personality is. My guess is he's either the person Marek trusted and just suddenly had something bad in his head happen to him to make him act as he did or a man who hid behind a kind mask for years just waiting for the right moment to act out.

The other person I didn't like---but as per the "Cinderella" type of storyline it was to be expected---was Carina's half-sister Marissa. Basically, she is vindictive with a capital "B."

Nevertheless, as I said before I loved this novel! Therefore, I HIGHLY recommend it to those looking for a thrilling paranormal fantasy romance!!

Carina’s hand still held him. He could’ve easily wrapped his body around hers and fallen asleep. But he’d vowed to behave according to protocol and now that she would recover, he had no excuse for remaining.
When he tried to remove his arm, her grip tightened and her eyes flew open.
“Where are you going?” The peacefulness of sleep had vanished from her face and borderline panic anchored in the harbor of her eyes.
“Shh,” he whispered. “I’ll be right outside if you need me, but it’d be improper for me to stay,” he finished with a lame shrug.
She snorted. “You’ll sleep with me like the other nights.”
He raised an eyebrow at her forcefulness. Her eyes had slipped closed, but her hand clasped his arm with unyielding firmness.
“Carina,” he mumbled with a helpless sigh.
“You will stay,” she commanded in a sleepy drawl.
He smiled. Maybe her stubborn nature wasn’t such a bad thing. And maybe even a bit endearing, he decided as he curled up beside her and buried his head in the crook of her neck , grateful she was alive. ~ within Chapter 25 - titled 'BRINK of DEATH'

Made the Grade: The Mistletoe Effect by Melissa Cutler

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Kindle Edition - File Size: 1953 | Expected Release Date: October 7, 2014 | Publisher: St. Martin's Press : Paperbacks | Obtained: NetGalley

"The Mistletoe Effect" by Melissa Cutler

Author's Book Description : A cowboy and an heiress find themselves a pretend marriage—and a very real passion—in THE MISTLETOE EFFECT, a delightfully sexy Christmas e-novella from Melissa Cutler.

It’ll be a Christmas to remember when hotel heiress Carina Briscoe falls for cowboy James Decker, the bad boy stable manager of her family’s Texas resort, after they’re roped into pretending marriage. The marriage might be a sham but the sparks between them are anything but. Still, with a little help from the heroine’s interfering family, they might end up with the greatest Christmas gift of all: true love.

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars! After lusting after each other from afar over the past few years, Decker & Carina finally get a chance to see what a relationship between them would be like ... if only it didn't start out with them having to pretend. Will they be able to over come the lies that Carina's family forces them to agree too or will they decide to part ways once everything is said and done?

This was a sweetly humorous romance that has slight erotic tendencies. I really liked how Decker encourages Carina to step up and become the woman she's meant to be (in more ways then one). It was nice seeing these two get together, especially since they already care about each other at the beginning so it was nice to see that "care" grow into something more over the course of this novel. In addition, once you include Carina's quirky family and her friends it'll keep the reader guessing the whole way through!

The only thing I had a hard time with was how it seemed to drag a bit in the middle. Yet otherwise, I would definitely recommend this novel to anyone looking for a comedic contemporary holiday erotic romance!

-- On a side note --
I loved Carina's holiday undies ideas, especially when she wears them as a rebellion against the Christmas theme. Also, I can totally see this novel being turned into a series. I mean it just has all the makings for a series, I'd be interested to see where Ms. Cutler could take it and these characters!

Book Teaser(s) :
Carina whirled on Decker. "If you'd thrown Wendell a bachelor party with strippers, this never would have happened."
Her face was instantly hot. What a ridiculous thing to say. It was amazing how easy it was to get sucked into her parents' vortex and let her concern for the business overshadow her concern for Haylie's well-being, but screwed-up priorities were her parents' gig, not hers. Haylie was better off without marrying Wendell, even if it cost the Briscoes' business hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost revenue and irreversibly changed the course of the resort's growth.
Decker seemed unfazed. Crossing his arms over his chest, he rocked on his boot heels and arched a brow. "This must be one of those damned if I do, damned if I don't arguments you women are so fond of." ~ within Chapter 1

"Nice apron, too."
"Yeah? You should probably know I'm not naked under this thing."
Bummer. But before she could voice her disappointment, he spun, showing off his butt in the pair of Halloween-themed cotton boxers she'd sewn for him. The sight made her laugh, it was such a nice surprise. ~ within Chapter 8

Made the Grade: Demon Rock Series, Book 3

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Kindle Edition - File Size: 402 KB | Expected Release Date: August 4, 2014 | Publisher: Carina Press | Obtained: NetGalley

"Ménage with the Muse" [Demon Rock Series, Book 3] by Nico Rosso

Author's Book Description : What happens when two very different satyr rock stars find their Muse...and discover it’s the same woman?

Musician Mia Dillon’s having the week of her life. Sharing the stage with the world’s biggest acts at a hedonistic festival is a rush, but she discovers new thrills as she frees her sensual side. A brief flirtation with sexy drummer Wolfgang quickly escalates as they lose themselves in wild music and the desert heat.

And then there’s Ethan. Silent, almost samurai-like, he’s the best guitarist she’s ever seen. He’s broken out of his quiet reserve just for her.

But Wolfgang and Ethan share two secrets. One: they’re demons. Two: they’re starving. The ancient rules of demons have shifted and if they don’t feed soon, the lights will go out for good. Mia’s energy has marked her as The One...for both of them.

Mia’s never had two men—let alone two demons—at once. Nobody’s heard of demons sharing a Muse, either. But the three of them make a sexual melody unlike anything else. Mia’s never felt so alive, but with the enemy growing closer by the minute, it will take everything Wolfgang and Ethan have to keep her that way.

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars! This is an intense novel about a female musician trying to make a name for herself (and her band) when she falls into a world of magic, intrigue, and into the hearts of two demons.

This is the first novel that I've read from this series and while I liked the characters, what captured me the most about this novel was its overall plot and intrigue. I really liked how Ethan, Wolfgang, and Mia built-up their relationship and made the choice that no matter what fate decided for them they were choosing each other because of how they felt for one another. Like I said before it’s a very intense novel, but I enjoyed how sweet and accepting Ethan & Wolfgang was about everything happening to them.

The only issue I had with this novel was it seemed that the momentum during the last 25% of it gets thrown off a bit as I felt like it dragged a bit while I was reading through it.

Nevertheless, I do recommend this novel and series to anyone who likes paranormal erotic romances, especially if you don't mind reading about threesomes.

A mortal hadn’t seen this aspect of himself since the time of the Etruscans. He’d expected her to bolt and bang on the metal door below until he could open it for her. Instead she ran toward him.
Mia reached the landing and slowed to cautiously circle him. He maintained the flame in his palm, lighting the animal aspects of himself for her.
He ventured, “This might be the first time a woman’s chased a satyr.” ~ within Chapter 5
He was urged to move, but had to fight through doubt.
“I haven’t...in a long time,” he said.
“How long?” she asked, hooking her fingers in the waistband of his jeans. “You’re a rock guitarist. Two days? A week?”
“Hundred years. More.” The waltz had been a revolution, and very carnal for the time. He expected Wolfgang to laugh and Mia to pull away.
She didn’t, and Wolfgang’s attention was wrapped up in her.
Mia’s fingers curled over the top edge of his jeans, finding the skin of his hip. He stepped forward for more.
She said, “That is a long time.”
“I’ve been concentrating on the music.” And there’d been no inspiration for his body.
“I don’t think much has changed since then.” Her flingers moved along the front of his lower belly.
He put his hand on her hip. It was a test. Could he be bold with her? “Everything changed in the last day.”
This did get a low laugh from Wolfgang, free from malice. It was knowing. ~ within Chapter 9

"An Heir of Uncertainty" by Alyssa Everett

Author's Book Description : Yorkshire, 1820

Lina, Lady Radbourne, thought being a countess would rescue her from poverty. Unfortunately, her young groom failed to plan for the future, and his drunken accident left her widowed and pregnant. Now Colonel Winstead Vaughan—Win—will inherit her late husband’s fortune...unless she gives birth to a boy. Win is her natural enemy, so why can’t she stop thinking about him?

Win is stunned to learn he stands to inherit a vast fortune. He’s even more surprised to find himself falling for the beautiful, spirited Lady Radbourne, who is the one woman who stands in the way of a life he’d only imagined.

When someone tries to poison Lady Radbourne, suspicion falls on Win. There’s a clever killer in their midst, and if Win doesn’t solve the mystery fast, Lina may perish. He needs to win her trust, but how can he prove it’s she he wants, and not the fortune?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars, two strangers find themselves thrown together in this suspenseful historical romance! Lina & Win's romance was one that grows slowly but once they finally trust each other (and get over their pride) everything seems to work out for them. I enjoyed how these two work together to get through the allegations about them and to find who is out to kill them. It made for a suspenseful novel that was a little like "Whodunit?" because of how many twists that appear.

Yet even though the actual killer surprised me, and this novel kept my interest the whole way threw, I just wish that Lina and Win's romance had a little more spark or charm then it did. I mean I'm glad they got together and I understand their reasons for why they held back their feelings to each other when they did but it didn't flow well for me. Or I should say their relationship was very slow paced for a majority of the novel and then rushed threw it by the end, which made me kinda disappointed.

With that being said, I did enjoy the plot, all of the characters, and the twists. Therefore, I'd recommend this novel to anyone who likes suspenseful historical romances and/or are fans of Ms. Everett.

Book Teaser(s) :
Win was almost halfway to the abbey, striding in fuming silence alongside his brother, when Freddie broke the quiet. “Is something wrong?”
Win glanced sidelong at him. “Do you mean aside from my itching to throttle Lady Radbourne?”
“You’re itching to throttle Lady Radbourne?”
Win gestured with an emphatic jab of one hand in the direction of the dower house. “Well, wouldn’t you be angry if you were in my place?”
“I can’t say.” Freddie deliberated a moment, his forehead wrinkling. “What is it you’re angry about?”
“What is it I’m angry...?” Win sometimes had trouble believing Freddie inhabited the same world he did. “Didn’t you hear what Lady Radbourne said? She accused me of trying to poison her.”
Freddie’s eyes narrowed in confusion. “I thought she said she wasn’t accusing you.”
“Yes,” Win replied hotly, “and she also said I’m new to the neighborhood, I have the most to gain if any harm should come to her baby, and it’s only natural for my presence here to arouse suspicion.”
Freddie tilted his head to one side. “Isn’t all of that true?”
“What?” Win let out his breath in an angry huff. “Well...strictly speaking it may be accurate, but it’s not as if I go about menacing females. I’m not some cursed Bluebeard.”
“But you just said you were itching to throttle Lady Radbourne.”
Win rounded on his brother in exasperation. “For the love of God, Freddie, do you imagine I would really do such a thing? That was a figure of speech.”
“I did suspect you didn’t intend to follow through,” Freddie said, unfazed. “After all, you had an excellent opportunity to throttle her at the dower house just now, and you didn’t take it. You often say things you don’t mean. But then, you’re my brother, so I have a fair measure of confidence you’re no murderer.”
A fair measure. “Thank you. ~ within Chapter 5

Disappointmentville: Feeling the Heat Series, Book 3

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Kindle Edition - File Size: 852 KB; Audiobook - Unabridged | Release Date: February 10, 2014 | Publisher: Carina Press | Obtained: NetGalley

"Catching Heat" [Feeling the Heat Series, Book 3] by Alison Packard

Author's Book Description : Feeling the Heat #3 – Life has taught Angie DeMarco that all baseball players are womanizers, and her incredible one-night stand with sexy San Francisco Blaze back-up catcher J.T. Sawyer seemed to prove it. Determined not to give in to their sizzling chemistry a second time, she’s kept her distance ever since, focusing on her accounting job with the team. But now she’s laid off…and pregnant.

J.T. was hurt by Angie’s rejection, but with one more year with the Blaze, he has no time for love. He needs to spend the off season training hard so he can negotiate a better contract with a new team at the end of the year. But when Angie shows up on his doorstep, he‘s overwhelmed by wanting to not just do right by her but pursue a relationship with her. Hoping for a second chance, he proposes.

Angie agrees to marry J.T. on one condition: the marriage will be purely a business arrangement. But as Angie spends time with him and his family, and J.T. neglects his training to spend time with her, what begins as a union in name only slowly grows into something more—something that looks a whole lot like love and friendship.

My Book Review : 2.5 out of 5 stars. Does love at first sight really happen? J. T. (James Taylor) & Angela (Angie) are going to prove the theory that it can happen, even if they don't originally believe in it.

Together this duo tries to come to terms with the curve ball they've been given and goes about dealing with it pretty badly. Angie has major issues with ballplayers, because of her father, and seems determined to take them out on J. T. Thankfully, after a while of them getting to know each other Angie's views/feelings change and she tries to make things work out between them.

Nevertheless, I felt that this novel dragged a lot. It especially dragged, for me, when it came to about the 50% mark (according to me kindle) and even though Angie finally agreed that J. T. is nothing like her dreadful father she still tries to not let things progress between them. Basically, it made me want to smack her and stop reading. Yet I force my way through and I'm glad I did, as I was intrigued with how Ms. Packard wrapped everything up between them.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this novel unless you're a fan of Ms. Packard and/or her series.

- On a side note -
• I really hated Angie's mother (Selena), it seems like she's an evil bitch. Even though she has her reasons to be that way.
• I'm also not that big of fan of J. T.'s older brother, Justin, even though he redeems himself at the end of the novel. It makes me curious as to what he'll decide to do about his career.

Book Teaser(s) :
Matt squinted. “Is that flop sweat on your forehead?”
J.T. wiped his brow and found it dry. He scowled as Jake laughed and Matt shot him an amused grin. “Do you have the rings?” he asked Jake.
Jake’s eyes widened. “Rings?”
“I gave them to you the night you came over for dinner,” he said as Jake furiously patted his jacket pockets. “Please do not tell me you forgot them.”
“I don’t think he has them,” Matt chimed in as Jake looked up with a stricken expression on his face.
“Son of a bitch.” J.T. kept his voice low and ran a hand through his hair. This was not the way to start off his marriage. “You’re the best man. That means you’re in charge of the rings.”
“See. This is why I should have been the best man.” Matt smirked. “I’d never forget the rings.”
“I had them this morning.” Jake stuck a hand in his pants pocket, then grinned. “Here they are,” he said and triumphantly held up the dark blue felt bag that held the simple white gold bands J.T. and Angie had picked out the day they’d applied for their marriage license.
Over Matt’s shoulder, J.T. saw his mother enter the room with the minister following close behind her. “It’s time,” he said as his heart began to pound.
“Are you sure about this?” Matt asked in a low voice.
No. I’m not sure of anything right now, J.T. wanted to say. But instead he looked at Matt, swallowed hard and nodded.
Matt clapped J.T.’s back with a firm hand. “Then relax, man. After winning the World Series, getting married is a breeze.”

Feasted On: Starved For Love by Annie Nicholas

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Kindle Edition - File Size: 326 KB; Audiobook - Unabridged | Expected Release Date: September 17, 2012 | Publisher: Carina Press | Obtained: NetGalley

"Starved For Love" by Annie Nicholas

My Book Summary : Pia is an unusual succubus, instead of being like her older sisters who enjoy the hunt of finding a man to feed on; she likes to have suitors (an old fashioned practice) so she could have one-on-one relationships with them without loosing her heart. Since all Pia has ever wanted is to have a loving relationship like her Dad and Moms' share, but that dream has been a hard one to accomplish and will soon be tested to see if it's even possible...

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! This is a fun and compelling novel about a succubus finding her one true match, yet only if he will allow himself to give his heart to her...

Val & Pia are an intense couple whose world-win relationship was one that everyone wishes they could have, in some way. They are drawn to each other in more ways then one and it takes a lot for things to come between them, even though Pia's old anxieties and Val's wives try too.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel! I was especially intrigued with how the dynamics worked in Pia's love-triangle-ish society and in doing so I fell in love with her two lead suitors Sin and Cooper!! In addition, Pia's family and her intense relationship with Valerio (Val) made this novel one to remember! Therefore, I hope that if Ms. Nicholas doesn't continue on with the story between Pia & Val then I hope that she'll write about one of the secondary characters in this novel since some things were left open-ended enough that I just want to read more!! However, because some storylines, especially the ones between Val & Pia, were too open-ended I gave this novel a lower rating then I would have originally planned, as this novel doesn't feel finished.

Overall, I recommend it to those who are a fan of Ms. Nicholas and/or those who like paranormal erotica romance!

- On a side note -
Okay, I'm not trying to sound mean because I love the show and respect the relationship the Brown Family has made for themselves, but every time Pia would mention her mothers' or talked about sister wives I could not help but think of their show, TLC's Sister Wives. =0)

Shaking the excess water from my hair, I tried to poof some life back into my signature curls. They sagged on my forehead. Sighing at my reflection, I hung my head. Nothing was sadder than a disheveled, horny succubus.
The doors slid open and a large pair of bare feet stepped into my view. A finger slipped under my chin and raised my gaze. Zur-Sin, ancient vampire warrior, stared at me with his stern dark eyes. Dressed in only a pair of black silk pajama bottoms, he looked good enough to eat. He brushed my curls from my face and frowned. "You have much to learn about the art of seduction." ~ within Chapter 1
He folded his cell phone. "Well, that went better than I expected."
I stopped. "What did?"
"Your lunch." He grinned and slipped his arms around me. "You're still wearing your skin, divorces have not been filed, and everyone is still attending the banquet."
"I think we had different expectations." I leaned into his embrace, crushing my face into his chest and inhaled his masculine scent, a mix of soap, sandalwood and musk. "They don't want me to marry you."
He rubbed my shoulders, digging into the knots I hadn't noticed. "They're just speed bumps, Pia. You were expecting them to welcome you with open arms and ask you to go shopping after lunch, weren't you?"
Maybe a little. A girl could have hopes. I slumped against him.
"You were." He pressed a kiss on my head and I could sense him struggling not to grin. "Didn't your mothers teach you anything?"
"Yes." I gave him a light slap on his hip. "They told me not to get eaten alive, then tossed me to the sharks, and cried swim."
He laughed out loud. ~ within Chapter 20

Idolizing In: Twilight of the Gods Series, Book 2

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 391 KB | Release Date: June 24, 2013 | Publisher: Carina Press | Obtained: Amazon.com

"Witch Bound" [Twilight of the Gods Series, Book 2] by Eleri Stone

Author's Series Summary : Ragnarök is the apocalypse foretold in Norse prophecy. There’s a great battle where most of the gods die followed by a series of natural disasters. The world burns, the sun turns black and the land sinks into the sea. The premise of The Twilight of the Gods series is that Ragnarök actually happened centuries ago...for Asgard. Earth (Midgard), connected to Asgard by the bridge Asbrú, managed to survive relatively untouched. Before Odin died, he cast a spell over his remaining people endowing them with many of his attributes—wisdom, magical skill, the ability to shapeshift. The surviving Æsir then fled Asgard and settled on earth in areas where the wall between worlds is the thinnest. This allows them to maintain a connection to the magic of their home and also to guard the connection points between worlds to prevent Surtr’s host from invading earth. There are many of these small clans of Norse demigods scattered around the planet, but The Twilight of the Gods series focuses on one particular clan living in Iowa.

My Book Summary : At twenty-five-years-old, Raquel (Rocky) may be one of the strongest witches to come along in a very long time. However, life has never been simple for her, especially as of late. In three weeks time she will marry the man (Christian) her parents chose for her, and when she meets Christian's clan she finds that she doesn't feel very welcome by some (the important ones especially). Also, Rocky still doesn't have control of her full potential as a witch--which makes it harder for Christian's clan because they had hopes of using her powers to help prevent their fault from rupturing more then it already has so they'll be able to keep the demons at bay better. To top all of that off, the beginnings of her relationship with Christian (the getting to know you stage before the wedding) isn't going as well as she had dreamed, especially when she keeps finding herself wanting to confide and be around in Christian's best friend Fen more then her groom. What is a girl to do?

My Book Review : 5 out of 5 stars!! This is a romance about a girl who is still coming into her own while being thrown into situation after situation she never expected to be in, especially when one of those situations happens to be falling for her groom's best man!

I could not get enough of this story, mostly because of how Rocky and Fen's relationship comes together! Fen & Rocky have this instant attraction that neither (at first) wants to mess with--because of what it would do to Rocky's family, the groom/Fen's best friend, and Fen & Christian's clan--but as everything grows between them, once they start up a friendship, by the end of the book it's hard for them to stay apart no matter what their original plans were. =0) RO-MAN-TIC in a very sweet non-classy way. *hehee*

However, I did love this novels plot, how it worked into the previous novel (even though I haven't read it and don't plan too) and gives you a bigger idea as to how this little town really works with the politics of it all. Definitely keeps you on your toes, especially when you have Rocky who just can't help herself when it comes to being in the middle of all of the trouble. =0)

I recommend this novel and series to anyone who likes to read suspenseful paranormal romances that have a little erotica to them.

- On a side note -
I know Fen said he never wants to have kids, and I understand the reasons why, but I am curious to know how they'll pull that one off. And if they'll adopt.

"How Beauty Loved the Beast" [Tales of the Underlight Series, Book 3] by Jax Garren (aka Jennifer Hinson)

My Book Summary : Now that Hauk has been saved and back from his time healing in the hospital, Jolie and his relationship pick up and kick off even better then Hauk expected. Yet his biggest fear of exposing all of his wounds to anyone, especially Jolie, is about to be thrown down by any means necessary, even more so if he ever wants to make love to Jolie without a condom. Nevertheless, as their relationship ignites and blossoms into something wonderful the Order of Ananke steps up its own game with plans to take down Hauk, Jolie, and infiltrate the Underlight by using their own people against them. If only Hauk & Jolie can battle through it all long enough to stay together forever while keeping safe their friends and comrades...

My Book Review : 5 out of 5 stars, two friends and "soul mates" fight the biggest battle of their lives in order to win each other's heart, as well as, to defeat their enemy. This was an epic ending to a delightfully fun series! I love how strong willed and determined Jolie throughout this novel! Also, I just could NOT get enough of Jolie & Hauk they are the perfect "Beauty & the Beast" couple!!

It will be interesting to see how Ms. Garren will expand on this series once she switches to Book 4 making Brayden the hero and Ashley (oh, how I hope Ms. Garren makes her likeable somehow) the heroine. I can't wait!

I recommend this novel and series to anyone who likes new twists on the Disney Classics, even if they are a bit erotic. =0)

"You're not interrupting. I dropped my sunglasses and I'm trying to retrace my steps. But don't worry. I've been taking extra precautions." She gave a significant glance back at Hauk. Jolie rolled her eyes. "Yeah, yeah. He's offered. Let's look for your sunglasses."
Catrina stopped her with a hand on her shoulder. Violet eyes---Jolie was surprised her boss had bothered with her contacts this morning---took her in resolutely. "I hope you take that offer. Don't be stubborn about this, Jolie. Not after Cassie." Her hand moved to Jolie's cheek, patting it lightly. "I don't mean to sound like your mother, but you are one of my girls."
Jolie squeezed her hand. "Don't worry. 'Please hop into bed with a felon for the next few weeks' is, shockingly, not one of the things my mother ever said to me."
