Cyber Stalking -- Romantic Gesture or Scary Predator?

"Cyber Cinderella" by Christina Hopkinson, was a HUGE disappointment!!! I could only make it through the first 20 pages or so before I got bored and had to force myself to finish ..... and THEN it turned out to be a crappy ending! WOW! I mean the title just didn't work out for me since when you think "Cinderella" you think the one who's behind it will be the "prince" but ...... *shakes head* 1 out of 5 stars!

All I know was that I didn't like it ... which is upsetting. =0( If you read it I hope you like it better.

And if you've read it before ... what did you think of it???

It's hangin' on when your heart has had enough, It's giving more when you feel like giving up ...

In "NOT anything" by Carmen Rodrigues, Susie feels all alone and that if something happened to her no one would even know it happened. She's an A student ... has goals to become a great songwriter ... loves her best (and only) friend ... but ever since her mother died, a few years ago, she has been lonely. She goes through her days waiting for her father to notice her, so much so that she has been taking care of herself and doesn't feel like a she's in a family unless she hangs out at her best friend's place. However, her friend has been MIA lately since she now has a boyfriend .... and the loneliness gets worse. Then her writing teacher asks her to tutor Danny Diaz (a popular high school Junior) and suddenly her life starts to change .... and she's forced to face the past that she has been trying to hard to keep at an arms length.

4 out of 5 stars! Susie is a strong character ... sweet ... and funny .... I could relate to her, which made me like it even more. Not that I had to go through any parental deaths growing up but she feels like a school outcast in a way and has made her life revolving around only her close friends/family and she's shy enough that she just doesn't know how to change ... until this guy enters her life and without knowing how it happens the things or people she thought were definite in her world start having new meanings. It’s a great coming of age story .... where you get to see how Susie tries to deal with her hand in life. It's just very touching and witty.

When you find yourself, In some far off place, And it causes you to rethink some things ...

Did you know that Atlantis was real?? At least in "The Nymph King" [part of the Atlantis series] by Gena Showalter it is. In this book you'll find out more about Atlantis and Nymphs (of course) ... as well as Dragons and Vampires ... but it's really about Valerian (the actual Nymph King) and Shaye. Valerian is used to women falling at his feet ... or usually falling into his bed as soon as he wishes it ... so when he takes his warriors up to the surface to bring back some human woman to service them he doesn't think he'll have any problems. However, Shaye has some other ideas. She's attending her mother's 6th attempt at marriage and she in the middle of an argument with her mother (after the ceremony) when then hunky men come walking out of the water and straight for them. Her mother falls under their spell and tries to rush to them ... while Shaye tries to run in the other direction back to the wedding reception and dragging her mother with her. The men follow her and once they get into the reception room they gather up all of the single females (including Shaye) and start bringing them back to Atlantis (under Shaye's protests). Once in Atlantis, Valerian feels so drawn to Shaye he feels like would kill his friends before they could be able to touch her, and for Shaye - she just wishes to go back to her home ... but if she can't escape then she would rather be with Valerian then any of his men. The only problem is before he went to the surface he promised his men he wouldn't choose any of the woman ... so when one of them do choose her ... she make a point to let that man know she doesn't want to go with him .... and Valerian plans on keeping her even if that means to fight his cousin to the death. Also, outside forces don't like that the Nymph's have gone to the surface either and will do anything to punish Valerian and his people ... even if it means complete annihilation of the nymphs.

3 out of 5 stars. I liked the relationship between Valerian and Shaye. However, Gena threw in so many other background characters (with another love triangle) that I didn't get to read as much of them as I would have liked to. But I did like the setting she created out of Atlantis ... definitely I wish I could see it myself.

NEW book coming out in March!!

"The Unwritten Rule" by Elizabeth Scott will be available in your favorite local bookstore on March 16, 2010!!! I hope that this one will be just as good or even better then her other books ... my faves of hers (so far) are: "Something, Maybe", "Stealing Heaven", and "Bloom". Here is the book's description:
'Everyone knows the unwritten rule: You don't like you best friend's boyfriend.

Sarah has had a crush on Ryan for years. He's easy to talk to, super-smart, and totally gets her. Lately it even seems like he's paying extra attention to her. Everything would be perfect except for two things: Ryan is Brianna's boyfriend, and Brianna is Sarah's best friend.

Sarah forces herself to avoid Ryan and tries to convince herself not to like him. She feels so guilty for wanting him, and the last thing she wants is to hurt her best friend. But when she's thrown together with Ryan one night, something happens. It's wonderful...and awful.

Sarah is torn apart by guilt, but what she feels is nothing short of addiction, and she can't stop herself from wanting more...'

I cannot wait to read it!! =0D Remember -- MARCH 16TH!!

I'm gonna find someone, someday who might actually treat me well. This is a big world, That was a small town ...

"Enthusiasm" by Polly Shulman hooks you in and makes you wish you could be there with the girls! Julia has been best friends with Ashleigh for over 10 yrs ... and during those years she has been through many "crazes" of Ash's with her (like her candy making time period or her others). Well ... now her friend is onto a new "craze" ... the good news is that it's one that Julie enjoys as well (i.e. Jane Austen) ... however .. Ash doesn't just like things (or her crazes) she puts 100% into them. So, now she's acting like she's from the 19th-century (from the way she talks .. to her how she acts .. to what she wears) and is in search of her Mr. Darcy and Julie's Mr. Bingley!! And the only place to find such a gentleman would be at the all-boys school located on the outside of their town ... and going to that schools annual dance! In doing so comes a great deal of events ... like learning how to dance some of the older dances, Julie meeting her 'Mysterious Stranger', a PLAY!, a love triangle or two ... and a whole lot more!!

3 out of 5 stars! The way it's written .. it was like reading Julie's diary. Very clever! To be 16 again .... I think I just might like it if I had Julie's life. *hahaa* I definitely recommend reading it if your into chic lit!

Who knows, That here we are, And you’re a super star on your own

In "Prada & Prejudice" by Mandy Hubbard, Callie's year hasn't been going well .... so when she convinces her mother into letting her go on a school trip to England she thinks this is her chance to make a change in her life .... possibly become popular ... maybe make some friends .... but definitely stop being the shy girl in the crowd. However, when most of the other girls on the trip don't help her fit in .... she makes a plan to follow them to a club she overheard them talking about visiting that night and just happen to show up. So, a shopping trip is in order!! And what would make those girls notice her as someone with style? Why Prada shoes of course!! But as soon as she's buys them, puts them on, and walks out the door .... she realizes she should have tried them on .... they are a little too big and she really doesn't know how to walk in them. =0/ Then before she knows how to get her balance she falls down .. knocking her head on the concrete. After the pain subsides .... she opens her eyes to find out she is now in 1815 England!! Thankfully she finds a house/mansion not to far from where she woke up .... thinking someone could help her ... but even though the owners let her in .... they now believe she's their American friend Rebecca who was planning on staying with them for awhile. And until she can find a way back home ...... she falls into high society .... and the secrets of everyone around her ..... will she make it home (back to the 21st century) .... or will she even want to leave by the time that comes???

3.5 out of 5 stars. Parts of the story dragged on a bit .... however ... I LOVED how the author wrapped it all up ... so in a way it might possibly be believable! =0)

Cupid please hear my cry, And let your arrow fly, Straight to my lover's heart for me

Have you ever tempted fate?? Well .. Robyn and Ken tempt it quite a bit in "Fate and Ms. Fortune" by Saralee Rosenberg. Both Robyn and Ken are down on their luck. But how would have thunk it that things would suddenly change on the night that Robyn attends her cousin's son's bar mitzvah ... the same night that her parents announce their separation and her mother moves in with her! As right after her stand-up act on stage a couple asks her to call their relative who is in desperate need of being cheered up. However ... after a couple of days passing and still not following through on the call, Robyn finally plans to meet up with Ken .... and when she does she starts to realize that she's known him from afar for quite sometime .... the only question is once fate knocks on their door will they answer?

Excerpts:

  • Man: Why do you wear a bra? You've got nothing to put in it.
Woman: You wear pants, don't you?

  • True happiness would not come from praying for what which had eluded us, but being thankful for that which was already in our midst.

  • 2.5 out of 5 stars. What can I say I was hoping for more .... I like Robyn on the aspect that YES she is a really strong character in her beliefs and what she'll do for others. However .... sometimes the storyline dragged a bit. =0P Too bad.
