What was I thinking?: Cyber Lover by Lizzie Lynn Lee

Format: eBook | Pages: 9 | Release Date: March 2011 | Publisher: Summerhouse Publishing | Obtained: Smashwords | Originally Found Out About @ Summerhouse Publishing

"Cyber Lover" by Lizzie Lynn Lee

What was I thinking? : It looked like a hot short read...

Author's Book Description : What happens when cybersex shifts from the cyber world and into reality?

My Book Review : 1.5 out of 5 stars. Basically, it was everything I had hoped for a "hot short read," the only problem was it was too short. Meaning as soon as it got good it was over. Yet it definitely had potential. However, the description gives you a completely different ideas as to what/who the cyber lover actually is, what really happens is very unexpected. =0/

I don't recommend it but you may enjoy it if you are a fan of Ms. Lee.

Book Teaser(s) :
Exquisite, Cat typed. I really –

"Deuces Wild" [Ridgeville Series, Book 5] by Celia Kyle

My Book Summary : A while back Deuce was recruited by the council to be a spy for them and infiltrate Freedom's group in hopes to take them down. By now, he has almost everything the council needs to finally put an end to the group’s plans and take down its leader, Alistair. However, he's plans get cut short when during a card game Alistair ups the mind games by telling him he needs to rape a woman, a squirrel shifter named Eloise (Elly), they have been keeping hostage. Therefore, once alone, and after Deuce realizes that this woman is his mate, Deuce convince Elly that he's going to help her get out of Freedom. And he does!

The only problem is that now after getting Elly into the council's capable hands no one seems to believe that Deuce never hurt Elly and that they are mates! Will they be able to beat the odds and protect each other from their families, "friends," and everyone else who seems to want to keep them apart?

My Book Review : 4.5 out of 5 stars!!! Mates find each other during a hostage situation, making the world feel like they need to keep them apart for good. I loved this fast-paced plot and its feisty characters!! Deuce and Elly were an odd pairing shifter-wise but perfect matches for everything else. Also, I like how Elly believed in Deuce no matter what and that she was an excellent shot with a gun. =0)

I recommend this lively novel to anyone who likes paranormal erotica romances!!

- On a side note -
This novel reminded me a bit of Ms. Langlais' "Bunny And The Bear."

Book Teaser(s) :
He doubted his little mate could handle an incensed lion.
His mate. His lush, curvaceous mate.
Deuce took one last deep breath. He knew he’d have to climb from her, force himself to retreat and show her she could trust him, at least a little. That final inhale brought even more to his senses, more of her alluring fragrance along with hints of her inner animal. Her... “Squirrel? You’re a squirrel?”
She narrowed her eyes but nodded.
Great.
A lion mated to a squirrel. And he’d teased one of the other guards back in Ridgeville about claiming a bunny. ~ within Chapter 1
“Too bad there’s not a lost and found for people.” — Maya O’Connell, Prima of the Ridgeville Pride, who was missing one of the twins. If only she could tell them apart and knew who’d wandered off. Kidlet tattoos were in their future. ~ within Chapter 2
Elly felt the tension in Deuce’s body, his muscles strung as tight as a bow, and she ran her hand along his spine. She stroked him gently, silently urging him to calm as they waited for Rosie to complete their paperwork and hand over the key.
Thankfully, they didn’t have to wait long. It looked like the woman wanted the two of them out of the lobby as soon as possible.
She had no problem with that since if people didn’t start treating her mate better, Elly was going to go badass squirrel on them and gnaw at their Achilles tendons. Then, once she got them down, she’d go to town on their asshole-ish asses.
Nom, nom, nom...
As if able to read her thoughts, Deuce squeezed her hand to snare her attention. “Bloodthirsty thing, aren’t you?” ~ within Chapter 4

Feasted On: Tiny Blessings Series, Book 11

Format: Paperback | Pages: 247 | Release Date: November 2007 | Publisher: Steeple Hill Books | Obtained: Friends of the Pasquotank-Camden Library - Fall Book Sale

"Giving Thanks for Baby" [Tiny Blessings Series, Book 11] by Terri Reed

My Book Summary : Trista is trying to get her life together again for her baby boy and her by moving to a new town to be closer to her older brother. Things seem to be going well .... she puts more effort into her relationship with her mother, she joins a Christian singles website that helps her deal issues in her life and makes online friends, she helps a woman who is going through her own issues, and she makes a connection with the assistant pastor at her church. However, things start to fall apart when her ex-husband decides to come back in her life by any means necessary. Can Trista put all her faith in God in hopes that everything will work out or will her faith be tested more than ever before?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! This novel was more dramatic than I expected it to be with its many plots and intriguing characters. Yet I enjoyed reading about the dynamics about all the characters and the budding friendship/romance between Trista and Scott. They were really sweet together and played off each other very well.

I recommend this novel to anyone who likes romantic thrillers and/or inspirational romances!

Glad to hear you enjoyed the movie. I hadn't been to see a film in a long time, but going the other day reminded me of how much exposure the media has. And I hope to see more films that convey the message of hope that God brings. I was at the bookstore not long ago and noticed that the Christian fiction section was bigger than in the past. I think storytelling in all media is a great way to reach out to people. I picked up a suspense thriller and am really enjoying it. Have you read any good books lately?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars--a girl who has been obsessed with the Hatter and all things "Alice in Wonderland" since she was a little girl finally falls down her own rabbit hole, but will she like what she finds? Alice and Hatter are equal parts passion and promise. Their story is one that is fun and entertaining while the sweet and thoughtful scenes seem to sneak up on you. Book Teaser(s) :
Alice screamed and shot straight up. Every nerve in her body tensed for flight or fight. Her eyes grew wide and her jaw dropped. At the foot of her bed stood an enormous white rabbit in red livery, blinking huge bunny eyes back at her.
“No way.” She glanced at the card. It was blank.
“Come. Come.” He hopped toward the window, gesturing frantically.
“Whoa.” How much had she had to drink? Two glasses, three maybe? She rubbed her eyes. “You’re not real.”
He rolled his eyes. “As real as you, I’d reckon. Now come, come.” His hand...paws? ... were on the window sill. He pushed it up, letting in a cool hibiscus-tinted breeze.
“As if.” Oh my gosh, she’d cracked. Her mother was right. Too much Wonderland and sugar had finally rotted her brain.
“Oy, why must all the Alices be so vexing?” the small voice growled. He hopped back to her. “Come.” He held out his paw.
She scooted back on her heels, bumping hard into her headboard. “Get away from me. You’re not real. You’re not real.”
“Bloody hell, Alice, you called and I came. But I must get back to me Duchess. So please hurry.”
She shook her head, denying his words. Not real. White bunnies didn’t swear. Or talk. Yeah, they definitely didn’t do that. ~ within Chapter 2
She was beautiful and spirited. His lips curved in a slow grin. She’d thrown bread at him.
The minx.
Hatter couldn’t stop thinking about the skunk. She’d called it. With her silly nonsense words, she’d called it into being. Other Alice had manifested magic and he’d thought then she may have been the one, but it hadn’t been enough. Wonderland had said no.
But a skunk, a large, fat and drunken skunk, was vastly stronger magic than a mere cup of tea. His heart raced. And her look when he’d touched her, she’d not shied away from the contact but had leaned in. She’d wanted his touch and he’d wanted to keep touching and petting and caressing. Pretty, silly little Alice. Maybe. Maybe... ~ within Chapter 6

Made the Grade: Ice Gods by Helen Scott Taylor

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 287 KB | Release Date: November 2012 | Publisher: Self-Published | Obtained: Amazon.com | Originally Found @ Free Par-Tay

"Ice Gods" by Helen Scott Taylor

My Book Summary : All her life Annika has known that she was different, especially when she found out as a child that not everyone has their own spirit guide that they can talk too in their head. Now she's faced with the option of meeting her father after 26 years of wondering who he was and why he left her....

...however what she never expected was to be thrown into the middle of a long-time family feud amongst Gods during that meeting!

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars!! With similarities to the author's The Magic Knot Series, this novel gives you the mysteriousness and spiciness that you enjoy with that series while being short enough that you can finish it in one setting! Annika and Tyr the Valiant (Tyr) are such a sweet couple!!! I loved how their romance grew and became something in and of its own!

My only problem with it was the ending. I know it's was a short novel when I began reading it but I was just hoping for something a bit more. Even though I was very happy with how things ended between the main characters, I just wish the everything else was wrapped up a bit better. =0/

I do recommend this novel to anyone who has read and liked the author's The Magic Knot Series. Also, to anyone who enjoys reading paranormal romances, especially ones involving mythical creatures and Gods.

My Previous Mention(s) of this Author's Books/Characters : Teaser Tuesdays: The Ruby Kiss

Book Teaser(s) :
The last time he'd set eyes on Annika she'd been a tiny baby. He'd been curious to see how she'd turned out, to put an adult face to the child he'd protected over the years. He knew the feel of her mind, enjoyed the mental bond they shared, but he'd always intended to keep his distance from her physically.
Never in his wildest dreams had he imagined she'd be so beautiful. He'd expected her to resemble Vali the Slayer as she carried his genes, and she did. But somehow on her the look was feminine and attractive. How could he want to kiss her when she reminded him of Vali?
Whatever his feelings, he must resist. ~ within Chapter 1

Made the Grade: Three Worlds Series, Book 1

Format: Paperback | Pages: 320 | Release Date: March 2011 | Publisher: Ballantine Books | Obtained: Friends of the Pasquotank-Camden Library - Fall Book Sale

"Seduce Me in Dreams" [Three Worlds Series, Book 1] by Jacquelyn Frank (aka Jax)

My Book Summary : Ravenna (Rave) has been visiting Bronse's dreams for a while now, trying to warn him of impending trouble coming his way as well as to learn more about him. They both don't understand the dreams, why or how they are able to talk to each other, but they are drawn to each other more because of the dreams then they would ever realize.

Therefore, when Rave learns of her own kidnapping she turns to Bronse in hopes that he can be her (and her younger brother) savior. Just hopefully, Bronse won't come too late....

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars, two strong leaders come together with plans of protecting themselves from a plot on their heads and to save those in their groups. It is an intriguing novel set around three unique worlds. However, Bronse and Rave weren't as great of characters as I wanted them to be. Their chemistry was great in the beginning but by the middle, their indecision about their attraction to each other made it so I couldn't like them, as I wanted too. Plus, it didn't help that Rave's younger brother, Kith, was soo annoying (even the characters thought so)! My favorite character was Lasher (Bronse's second in command and best friend).

I recommend this novel to those who are fans of Ms. Frank and who like sci-fi romances!

Unperturbed, Lasher did so, grinning the entire time. He knew full well that Bronse had heard him and comprehended. "I asked you what you were thinking."
Bronse laughed suddenly, half with humor, half with that same disbelief. "I am suddenly having a flashback to my marriage. Liely asked me that question a hundred times a night when I was off-mission. Do I have to worry that we've been on-mission together too long?"
Lasher responded by throwing a bread roll at Bronse's head. ~ within Chapter 2
"What the hell is going on around here? I want to know just exactly what I did to deserve this. There must be something. Maybe some information I have that I don't realize I have."
"I think we'd better find out. Fast would be nice. I'd hate to think I'd be afraid to get laid until we do." Lasher smirked at Bronse.
"You know, I'm so glad my impeding homicide is such a source of humor for you," Bronse said. ~ within Chapter 8

Books & Animals Just Don't Mix...

Okay, since my husband and I are moving in about 2-3 months so I'm trying to get through my TBR pile that I've had for a while. Therefore, I decided to start reading Jacquelyn Frank's "SEDUCE ME IN DREAMS" last night and this is what I found ....

Now I will admit that I knew that it was bitten before I picked it up, since it was at my local library's seasonal book sale, but I just didn't realize how bad it was until yesterday. Thankfully, the previous owner was nice enough to hang onto the 6 torn up corners that I found stuck in the middle of the novel but I needed to tape up/reenforce a little over 25 other pages too. *shakes head*

I guess the pet found "SEDUCE ME IN DREAMS" mighty tasty! *hehee* Now that it's all put together I hope I'll like it just as much! =0)

Feasted On: Hunger Awakened by Dee Carney

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Kindle Edition - File Size: 464 KB; Audiobook - Unabridged | Expected Release Date: March 4, 2013 | Publisher: Carina Press | Obtained: NetGalley

"Hunger Awakened" [Vampire Hunger Series, Book 2] by Dee Carney (aka Morgan Sierra)

My Book Summary : Sebastian (Bast) knows he is a half-vampire, has dealt with the prejudices of it and has had to prove himself to the vampire community because of it for over 400 years; the problem is he doesn't know what his other half is. So, over the year he's done his best to just forget about it....

....that is until his other half finally decides to make itself known in a BIG way. Suddenly one night while he is at a club, to hook up and get fed, pain and fever crashes over him out of nowhere leaving him in the back alleyway throwing up and almost unconscious. Alice, a homeless woman who has an illness of her own, finds Bast in the alley and unwillingly tries to help him. However, once she starts helping she has a hard time walking away. One thing leads into another bringing her into a world she never realizes existed.

Together they find and feel that they'll be able to defeat whatever is happening to Bast and accept what he truly is. Yet when her own illness gets worse, will they find a way to stay together for good or will others and Alice's body keep them apart for good...

My Book Review : 4.5 out of 5 stars!! This is a compelling novel about two "people," who come from tough pasts, finding each other and help each other deal with the cards life handed them. You can't help but fall into this novel and start rooting for Alice & Bast immediately; they are just that sweet of couple! Plus, I love reading about the genealogy research/knowledge in the book because I'm a genealogy buff myself.

Then as a cherry on top, for those who have read "Hunger Aroused" (since I didn't), it gives you an update on what Jasmine & Corin are doing while not having a confusing plot line enough so it can be considered as a standalone novel! Nevertheless, the epilogue leaves you with plenty of things to get you excited for the next novel while hoping Alice, Bast, Jasmine, & Corin will be in it too!

I recommend this novel/series to anyone who likes paranormal romances!

“Son of a bitch,” he said with a low growl. “I don’t know which one is correct. Fuck. I’ll have to—”
“You could hire me to do it.”
“What?”

“No.”

Disappointmentville: Drink of Me by Jacquelyn Frank

Format: Paperback | Pages: 371 | Release Date: October 2010 | Publisher: Zebra Books | Obtained: Friends of the Pasquotank-Camden Library - Fall Book Sale

"Drink of Me" by Jacquelyn Frank

Author's Book Description : In a world where emotion can be a deadly weapon, one slight, battered runaway holds the key to a dark and twisted enigma...

Drink of me, she whispers, her silver eyes trusting, pleading. What female dares speak such words to one of the Sánge? His people are scorned by every race for their fierce sensuality, their fearful rituals. And as Prime, Reule is the most telepathically gifted of them all.

But nothing has prepared him for the intensity of emotion radiating from the outlander rescued by his Pack. Terrified, tormented, but beautiful beyond measure, Mystique shatters his legendary control. As she reaches for him in the steamy heat of the healing baths, he knows this blind need can have but one end...

In blood, in knowledge, in ecstasy.

My Book Review : 2.5 out of 5 stars...

Okay. This is exactly what happened while I read this novel...

I was reeled into the beginning of this novel with its intriguing and mysterious buildup over Reule's people (the Sánge who are known as a savage group because they need to have blood while having sex and because of their fangs) and over Mystique (a woman who has run from her past while suffering from physical/emotional trauma and amnesia). Then the pretense of the novel hooked me when it came to the budding romance between Mystique and Reule, as well as the new developments that Mystique learned about herself. By then I was at page 178 (48% of the way in) reading while rocking my daughter to sleep where she ended up accidentally knocking the book out of my hands. When I got back to the novel, I didn't end up where I left off, not on purpose at first, a couple pages after where I ended just caught my eye and that is where I started again. To say it went downhill from there, me actually liking the novel, would be an understatement. I didn't like the way the plot was going.

Yet I wanted to give this novel the benefit of the doubt so I skimmed the rest of it so I could find out what happened to and between Reule, Mystique, her past, their future, and the funny secondary characters. What I found wasn't that I didn't enjoy what happened to the characters (well most of it), the reason for my rating was mostly because I didn't like what happened between Rye and Mystique at all (couldn't even find some goodness with the way that secondary plot wrapped up). In addition, I didn’t like the very end of this novel. Yes at the end it wraps up everything, but not quite the way I was hoping for. In addition, dealing with Mystique's insecurity about herself and her worth was annoying at times too. =0/

I don't recommend it; but if you do read it (since I found many positive reviews for this novel), I wish you luck and hope you like sci-fi-ish paranormal romances!

- On a side note -
So, basically what I'm saying (since this isn't my typical way to review a novel) is that the circumstances of how I read this novel could be why I rated it the way I did or if nothing unusual happened I might have felt the same way, I'm not really sure. =0/

Book Teaser(s) :
"You're telling me you aren't at all worried that our Prime is forming an attachment to an outlander woman whom we know nothing about?"
"We know more than you think," Darcio hinted cryptically, "and no, I'm not worried. Reule isn't the sort to lose his head or his heart easily. And even if he did, Rye, I'm not entirely certain it would be any of our business."
"Everything is Pack business," Rye contradicted.
"Oh? Does that mean I can demand details about that pretty Janna you've been sniffing after all month?" Rye flushed a deep red at the mention of his rather serious flirtation with a young lady of the court. "After all, you are heir. If you're seeking to attach yourself to a woman who might one day be our Prima, perhaps we ought to be more involved in this."
"All right! Do you have to be such a cocky shit all the time?" Rye demanded. "You're right, as usual, and Delano, Saber, and I are assholes. Satisfied?"
"Immensely." Darcio chuckled. ~ within Chapter 5
