"Not His Mate" by M. L. Briers

Author's Book Description : Nadia was in her happy place, but all that was about to change.
When Nadia’s sisters arrive foretelling doom for her and the local pack she’s forced into a situation where she has to work with the same pack that have been hounding her since she moved to town. It’s an unhappy alliance, but one that she needs to live with in order to... live.
The Alpha is determined to save his pack from the Werewolves that have been attacking with what seems to be uncharacteristically controlled tactical awareness. Suspecting that magic lurks somewhere behind the scenes, he is reluctantly forced to accept the help of the Fae when they appear to hold the answers.
But things don’t always go to plan. Saving the Witch shouldn’t have been high on his agenda, but when push comes to shove, he needs to decide if splitting the pack and fighting on two fronts is worth the risk.

Adult Content

My Book Review : 2 out of 5 stars. A cute paranormal romance that I just couldn't get into. Because of the author's book description I knew this novel was going to be based around Nadia and her family, yet I didn't think that it would be mostly about Nadia's troubles and her sisters' finding their mates. In addition, reading the POVs of everyone was a little off putting when all I really wanted to do was read from Nadia's POV, find out more about Nadia's troubles, and learn about who her "mate" wound be.

Therefore, if you're looking for a multi POV novel that includes three romances within the paranormal genre, then I recommend this book to you!

Book Teaser(s) :
“So much for hacking...” Nadia’s voice was like a bucket of cold water poured over Natasha’s head as she pulled her lips from his and gasped in the air she had been so sweetly and passionately denied.
Colt didn’t move, although he did debate with himself snapping the annoying little Witch’s neck and returning to his mate to begin again where they had been so cruelly interrupted. But he had a sneaking suspicion that his mate might view him killing her sister as a step too far in their emerging relationship.
“Nadia, you’ll understand when I say that there are two words and the second is off...” Natasha bit out, much to the pure amusement of her mate. ~ within Chapter 5

Made the Grade: Three Ways to Wicked by Melinda Barron

"Three Ways to Wicked" by Melinda Barron (aka Maura McMann)

Author's Book Description : Bestselling Author Krisily Carmichael needs a break from her life. Her horrid ex-boyfriend sold naked photos of her, and now she’s plastered all over the nation’s largest skin magazine. So when an advertisement for a rental cottage near Bath appears in her mailbox, she snatches up the offer.

When she arrives at the remote English cottage, she finds a charming country home with a huge botanical garden…complete with four magical beings trapped inside.

Victim of a wayward spell, the Sorcerer Uriel and his alchemist cousins, Bythos and Acolius, have spent centuries trapped inside their garden with an evil witch who wants their secrets. Krisily’s arrival sets off a string of events foretold to bring about the witch’s end. Unfortunately, they have to contend with the witch’s curse, which took one sense from each of the men.

But the four of them find a way to communicate, and they come together in a blaze of passion that helps them to destroy the witch and meet their destiny.

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars. It's a cute erotic novel. It's about a present day woman who rents out a cottage in England in hopes of relaxing for a while. Instead finds herself in the middle of a magical war with three hot guys wanting to help her, in more ways then one.

As I said it was cute, yet I just wish I liked the relationship between the four of them better and the ending more.

I recommend it ONLY to those looking for a quick erotic paranormal romantic read!

Cauldrons that turn into bitches, oh my...cauldrons that turn into bitches, oh my...cauldrons that turn into... What the hell am I doing!” ~ within Chapter 6
Uriel put his elbows on the table. “What are credit cards?”
“They’re little plastic things you give people instead of money. He used them to purchase some things when we were together.”
“Extraordinary,” Bythos said. “A moneyless society.”
“No.” She waved her hands to dispel the notion. “It’s...I’ll explain it all later, okay.”
One more book she needed to buy, obviously. Maybe the children’s section would have tomes that could explain it all to them easily.
“Did he use these things to purchase you clothing?” Uriel’s gaze was harsh.
“We’re not going into that again. This is the way people dress nowadays. Deal with it.” There had been a huge discussion before they’d left the cottage about her sundress, which, they’d all agreed, was “attire for under the dress”.
The conversation had been heated, but, in the interest of getting into Bath, they’d finally agreed they’d table the discussion for later. ~ within the Epilogue

Made the Grade: TALES OF THE DJINN Series, Book 1

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 2572 KB | Release Date: April 29, 2014 | Publisher: Self-Published | Obtained: Amazon.com

"The Guardian" [TALES OF THE DJINN Series, Book 1] by Emma Holly

Author's Book Description : Elyse Solomon hasn’t had it easy. She lost her dad and her husband under suspicious circumstances, and her relatives know more than they’re admitting about both deaths. Then a mysterious stranger with a briefcase full of cash moves into the basement of her New York brownstone. Arcadius is gorgeous and sophisticated, but nothing about him adds up—that is, until Elyse discovers her sexy tenant is a genie desperate to save his people from a deadly curse. With so much heartache behind her, can Elyse find the courage to help the man who might be her true soul mate?

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars!! Since she was little, Elyse was use to her father going on adventurous excursions and sending back exotic presents for her to enjoy. Her home is still filled with them. Now, though, with her husband and father dead her life seems to have become rather dull. That is until Joseph and his 'Master' Arcadius pays cash to rent out the basement apartment of her brownstone residence. Unintentionally, they throw Elyse's life upside down when they reveal to her everything that is really 'magical' in her life and point out to her the truths that she should have known.

In doing so, they end up recruiting her to help them save their city. While that takes place, Arcadius and Elyse find their feelings for each other are growing. This is good in a way but might completely hurt them both in the end....

Overall, I really liked the build up of this novel/series. It’s inventive, exciting, and fun. While Arcadius and Elyse's romance is slow and sweet. It is one thing that I hope will last throughout this series!

The only thing that was hard for me at times was the stories within a story thing. Especially when you don't like the story that the characters are telling.

Even so, I still recommend this series and novel to anyone who likes paranormal romance!

Book Teaser(s) :
Calm down, she thought, forcing herself to move toward the entrance without primping. That she’d noticed the strangers was irrelevant.
She wiped sweaty palms on her old black jeans before she turned the knob. The slightly shorter man from the new apartment was outside, the one the other had called Joseph. Once again, she was struck by his handsomeness. His face was narrow, his features sharp and striking. His dark hair was pleasantly disarrayed, his wide mouth naturally ruddy. She’d never seen skin as smooth as his on a man, though obviously he could afford regular spa treatments. A quick survey of her hormones revealed she wasn’t physically pulled to him— or not so much that she’d notice. All the same, she couldn’t deny he was easy on the eyes.
“Good evening,” he said in his strangely formal yet not accented voice. “I hope I’m not interrupting. Could you recommend a nearby restaurant that delivers? My master likes spicy food.”
His master? The thought that her new tenants might be a couple had crossed her mind, but not that they played with whips and chains. Was that why they wanted privacy?
Elyse struggled not to picture the man before her in a dog collar . He wore a nice dress shirt. There could be a leash under it . . . or maybe nipple clamps. She shook the thoughts from her head. The pair’s personal arrangements absolutely weren’t her business.
“Uh,” she said. ~ within Chapter 7
Once in the hall, she peered toward the living room. “There’s no out outside the front door. All I see is swirling mist.”
“That’s right,” Joseph said. “Beyond the mirror space is simply unformed potential.”
She gnawed her lower lip. “What would happen if I tried to step into it?”
“You’d feel a very strong aversion before you did. If you persisted, your soul would separate from your body. You’d need a good necromancer to call it back.”
“In other words, don’t do it.”
“That would be best,” Joseph conceded. Elyse’s question had amused him. ~ within Chapter 10

"Forged" [The World of Nightwalkers Series, Book 4] by Jacquelyn Frank (aka Jax)

Author's Book Description : From New York Times bestselling author Jacquelyn Frank comes a seductive new paranormal romance set in the World of the Nightwalkers, as a battle-scarred bodyguard and a sensitive beauty risk their lives—and their hearts—in the face of evil.

When Katrina Haynes discovers a large man lying wounded in the snow, she fears he is at death’s door. But as Kat tends to his injuries, she quickly realizes that they’re the least of her worries. With an irresistible Scottish brogue and a strange ability to harden his chiseled body like a statue, the stranger awakens a desire she is unable to resist—and a fascination about the intriguing world he exists in.

As a proud Gargoyle, Ahnvil must safeguard the Nightwalker to whom he’s sworn fealty. But as this bewitching woman nurses him back to health, arousing an almost uncontrollable hunger within him, he is possessed with the fierce impulse to protect her as well. And he will have to shield her—for by coming to his rescue, Kat has placed herself in the middle of a supernatural war . . . and exposed herself to dark, powerful magic. As human and Gargoyle forge an unbreakable bond, Kat will discover that despite his intimidating strength and size, one thing Ahnvil does not possess is a heart of stone.

My Book Review : 4.5 out of 5 stars!! This series keeps getting better and better! Now you learn about Kat and Ahnvil, a supposed mortal finds herself thrust into a unique and terrifying world when she finds and helps a hurting gargoyle on her property. Together they are unstoppable, even when their differences seem to try keeping them apart. I enjoyed their romance and how they protected each other through everything that was thrown at them. They are a magnetic pair!

It makes me excited to see where this series will go and who the new "person" we will be meeting and "watching" fall in love with next!

I recommend this novel and series to anyone who's a fan of Ms. Frank and/or those who like paranormal romances!!

"Royally Lost" by Angie Stanton

Author's Book Description : Dragged on a family trip to Europe’s ancient cities, Becca wants nothing more than to go home. Trapped with her emotionally distant father, over-eager stepmother, and a brother who only wants to hook up with European hotties, Becca is miserable. That is until she meets Nikolai, a guy as mysterious as he is handsome. And she unknowingly finds herself with a runaway prince.

Nikolai has everything a guy could ask for-he's crown prince, heir to the throne, and girls adore him. But the one thing he doesn't have...is freedom. Staging a coup, he flees his kingdom and goes undercover on his own European tour.

When Nikolai and Becca meet, it’s their differences that draw them together. Sparks fly as they share a whirlwind of adventures, all the while dodging his royal guard. But Becca's family vacation ends in a matter of days. Will Nikolai and Becca be forced to say goodbye forever, will his destiny catch up to him, or will they change history forever?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! Once this novel hooks your interest, it'll keep you entertained to the end! Two high school graduates, who come from very different backgrounds, paths keep crossing enough for them to take notice and get to know one another, which turns into something more if only their families don't keep them apart.

At first I wasn't sure how I would like this novel as it is a bit slow in the beginning, yet once it picks up--by the middle--I had a hard time putting it down. I enjoyed how Nikolai and Becca learned from each other and in doing so, they were able to create better futures for themselves. Together they are able to bring out who they both would rather become instead of who they were turning into before they met. In addition, I liked how this novel wrapped everything up. It's a very sweet romance!

I recommend this novel to anyone who is a fan of Ms. Stanton and/or enjoys contemporary NA romances!

Book Excerpt :

The hot sun burned down on Becca. “The lake is so clear I can see all the way to the bottom. I wish I’d worn my swimsuit.”

“You could . . . you know,” Nikolai said suggestively, looking at her shirt.

“I am not skinny-dipping, so you can wipe that idea from your mind right now.”

“Look who’s jumping to conclusions. I wasn’t suggesting you skinny-dip.” He delivered a sly grin. “What I was about to say is that you could swim in your underwear.”

“Oh, but—”

“Ut.” He held up a finger. “Let me finish. Your underwear probably covers you more than your bathing suit anyway.”

Becca opened her mouth to speak, but then changed her mind. She knew he was secretly laughing at her.

“What? It’s a great idea.” He smiled devilishly.

“So, you’re saying you’d strip down to your undies, right here, in broad daylight.”

Nikolai stood and reached between his shoulders, pulled his T-shirt over his head, and dropped it at her feet. “You Americans are so uptight about your bodies.”

Becca stared at his strong arms, lean physique, and flat stomach. He began to unbutton his shorts.

Her jaw opened. She wanted to tell him to stop, but even more, she wanted to see if he’d actually drop his drawers in front of her.

He did.

"Charming The Duke" by Holly Bush

Author's Book Description : 1849 . . . Matilda Sheldon, the middle daughter of the sixth Earl of Bisset, has never been interested in the fashionable society events that so preoccupy her parents and siblings. Her loving, albeit, daft family cannot understand why. But Matilda has little use for silly rules and dramas. She would rather occupy her time with a worthwhile cause such as opening The Sheldon Home for Orphans, much to the chagrin of her mother and grandmother. They are quite certain a venture of this nature will discourage suitors. Matilda is quite certain that if suitors are discouraged it is because she is clever, plain, a bit clumsy, and inevitably compared to her beautiful sisters.

The Duke of Thornsby is in tight spot. After receiving the title on the death of his father, he discovers the inheritance is to be gifted elsewhere if he does not marry before his thirtieth birthday. Unfortunately, our man-about-town is embroiled in a scandal, not of his own making, and the marriage mamas won’t let any eligible misses anywhere near him. What’s a Duke to do? Get invited to a house party hosted by the notoriously absent-minded Earl of Bisset, who just happens to be Papa to some young ladies of marriageable age!

Thornsby finds himself fascinated, not with the two Sheldon debutantes actively seeking a husband, but rather with the ‘brown wren’ he first mistakes for a servant. Matilda is counting the hours until the house party ends when the necessity of conversing with the guests will be over, and ridiculously handsome men go far away. Can a worldly Duke convince a sensible girl to accept his court? Find out in "Charming The Duke."

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars. Matilda and Frederick (Thornsby/Freddy) will charm you in this quaint historical romance! They (along with their families) bring a humorous and sweet take to what it means to live in England during 1849. Especially, as to what it is like to be a noble person who doesn't really fit into society's standards.

Overall, this is a very cute novel. In addition, even though I thought the middle to ending could have been laid out a bit better, I did enjoy that the "epilogue" summed up the big issues that Matilda had and displayed how well their relationship came together!

I recommend this novel to those who like sweet and funny historical romances!

Ethel Sheldon suddenly laughed uproariously. She sobered and turned to her daughter-in-law. “However much it pains me to admit it, Frances, I believe you may be right. The Duke of Thornsby may be infinitely matched to Matilda.”
“Ethel, how could you?” Matilda shouted. “And mother to suggest marriage! I’ve never been so embarrassed in all of my life.”
“But Matilda, if you care so little for the Duke why are you embarrassed? You care naught for his opinion,” Juliet asked.

About the Author :

Holly Bush was born in western Pennsylvania to two avid readers. There was not a room in her home that did not hold a full bookcase. She worked in the hospitality industry, owning a restaurant for twenty years. Holly has been a marketing consultant to start-up businesses and has done public speaking on the subject.

Holly has been writing all of her life and is a voracious reader of a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction, particularly political and historical works. She has written four romance novels, all set in the U.S. West in the mid 1800’s. She frequently attends writing conferences, and has always been a member of a writer’s group.

Holly is a gardener, a news junkie, and former vice-president of her local library board and loves to spend time near the ocean. She is the proud mother of two daughters and the wife of a man more than a few years her junior.

Book Excerpt :

Our heroine Matilda meets the Duke of Thornsby for the first time . . .

Matilda groaned inwardly. And so began a long three days of this business. Nearly two hours later all the guests were situated in the correct room. A stand-up buffet was to be served at eight o’clock, giving Matilda three hours alone. Mother was fussing with Cook over some calamity. Father had taken a few old compatriots to the stables, and her sisters were napping. Matilda was heading towards the stairs when the footman opened the door once more.

A tall, dark haired man entered with a thin woman on his arm. A blond man came behind them and whistled as his gaze cleared the three-story ceiling of the entranceway. Damnation. These were the guests Mother had been fussing about, wondering what had held them up. No Mother. No Father. No Franklin and the peach. No Juliet or Alexandra. Not even Fitz about. Matilda stepped forward and curtsied.

“Good day, Sirs and Madam.”

The dark-haired man swept a look up and down the entranceway, even down to the marble floors before handing his hat and cane to Matilda.

“Tell your Mistress the Duke of Thornsby has arrived.”

“Right away, sir,” Matilda said.

The thin woman rushed forward. “How silly my brother can be,” she said and stole a glance over her shoulder at the dark haired man. “Aren’t you the middle daughter of the Earl?”

The blond man laughed uproariously. Matilda quelled him with a stare. “Matilda Sheldon. Welcome to Maplewood.”

“I am Lady Athena. I believe we’ve met quite some time ago. This is Mr. Andrew Smithly. And this,” she said as she grabbed the dark haired man’s arm, “is my brother, the Duke of Thornsby.”

Thornsby bowed over her hand. “Terribly sorry, my dear. I just, well . . . my fault. My apologies. Terrible mistake. Terrible.”

Matilda leaned forward. She’d had her daily allowance of stupidity as she greeted guests all afternoon. There really was only so much she could take and remain stoic. “How do you characterize this auspicious start? Would you term it,” Matilda lifted her shoulders in a shrug, “terrible, by chance?”

The Duke pulled at his waistcoat. “I did apologize, Miss Sheldon. Was a harmless mistake on my part. I heard your family described in one fashion, and you standing there just didn’t put me in mind that you were part of the Sheldon clan.”

The sister groaned.

“And how, sir, did you hear my family described?” Matilda asked.

“Got you in a neat box, old boy,” the other man said.

“Everyone said they were blond and beau . . .”

Matilda’s brows rose. She was aware of the comparisons made between her and her sisters and mother. Her sister-in-law to be as well. Just not in the entrance to her home by a man she’d never met. She bellowed over her shoulder to the butler.

“James. Fetch Mother. The Duke of Thorny has arrived.” Matilda schooled her features. “Lady Athena, Mr. Smithly, enjoy your stay.”

Idolizing In: Unmasking Juliet by Teri Wilson

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Paperback - Pages: 368; Kindle Edition - File Size: 483 KB | Expected Release Date: May 27, 2014 | Publisher: Harlequin : HQN Books | Obtained: NetGalley

"Unmasking Juliet" by Teri Wilson

Author's Book Description : Ever since she was a little girl learning to make decadent truffles in her family's chocolate shop, Juliet Arabella has been aware of the bitter feud between the Arabellas and the Mezzanottes. With their rival chocolate boutiques on the same street in Napa Valley, these families never mix. Until one night, when Juliet anonymously attends the annual masquerade ball. In a moonlit vineyard, she finds herself falling for a gorgeous stranger, a man who reminds her what passion is like outside of the kitchen. But her bliss is short-lived when she discovers her masked prince is actually Leo Mezzanotte, newly returned from Paris and the heir to her archenemy's confection dynasty.

With her mind in a whirl, Juliet leaves for Italy to represent the Arabellas in a prestigious chocolate competition. The prize money will help her family's struggling business, and Juliet figures it's a perfect opportunity to forget Leo…only to find him already there and gunning for victory. As they compete head-to-head, Leo and Juliet's fervent attraction boils over. But Juliet's not sure whether to trust her adversary, or give up on the sweetest love she's ever tasted...

My Book Review : 5 out of 5 stars! Based off of a classic play this novel has turned into a classic for me! However, instead of being a tragedy like its predecessor it's an entertaining romantic contemporary comedy that allows you to root for Leo & Juliet while throwing you into the middle of a generational chocolate war. Together they overcome their own fears along with the rulings of their families to embrace the future they are yearning for.

I highly recommend this novel to anyone who's fans of Ms. Wilson, who are fans of Romeo & Juliet, and/or who like contemporary romances!!

Author's Novel Extras : Pinterest: UNMASKING JULIET by Teri Wilson (Harlequin HQN, June 2014)

Book Teaser(s) :
Leo narrowed his gaze at Cocoa. "Is it my imagination, or does your dog bark every time she hears my last name?"
Juliet's cheeks flushed a stirring shade of pink. "Maybe."
Leo refused to believe it. There were already more than enough opinions about this heated flirtation he and Juliet had going on without adding her dog's into the mix.
He looked at Cocoa again. She'd slumped to her belly, and was resting calmly with her head on her shaggy, outstretched legs at Juliet's feet.
The only way to know for certain was to put his theory to the test. "Mezzanotte."
Cocoa's head popped up. Woof.
Leo slid his gaze to Juliet. Her flush intensified.
"Arabella," he said, doing his best to ignore the musical way the word rolled off his tongue.
Cocoa simply yawned.
"Butter."
Nothing. No reaction at all.
"Cream."
Still more silence.
"Mezzanotte."
Woof.
Leo shook his head. "Well, I'll be damned." ~ within Chapter 6
Quicker than she would have imagined, he was level with her balcony. His lips curved into a cocky smirk. "Hello there, Juliet."
God, he wasn't even out of breath. If she'd attempted such a feat, she no doubt would have ended up with a nice collection of broken bones. Of course, he wasn't actually on the balcony yet. He was still hanging on to the trellis.
"What now, Spider-Man?" she asked dryly. ~ within Chapter 20
