Feasted On: Nightshade Series, Book 1

Format: Paperback | Pages: 452 | Release Date: October 2010 | Publisher: Philomel Books

"Nightshade" [Nightshade Series, Book 1] by Andrea Cremer ( I read this as a part of 1 ARC Tours)

My Book Summary : Calla (Cal) has known her whole life that when she turned 18-years-old she would have a union with Ren (the young Alpha -- who's her age -- of a different pack) and be his mate. However, with just about a month left before their union, suddenly her world changes, all when she saves a teenage human boy in the woods. By saving him, she breaks many rules of her people, but afterwards she knocks him on his head to make him believe that it was all a dream, and thinks she'll never see him again. Too bad that plan doesn't work out when she goes to school on Monday to find him as the new boy in her classes, named Seamus (Shay).

At first Cal doesn't know how she should act around him, but after a while she knows that he remembers their encounter in the woods, so talks to him a bit without letting anyone (especially those in her pack) know. While they hang out they learn more about each other and they grow closer together, also Cal tell Shay more about her people and the way things are run. However, later on while at a club with her pack she finds that her "masters" (the Keepers) want Shay for unknown reasons, but they inform her (and her pack) that they would like them to keep an eye out for Shay. In the mean time Shay decides to brake into his "uncle's" library and comes across an old text that counters the stories that Cal has grown up to know, and it also talks about a prophesy that both Cal and Shay are intrigued to find more about.

Will Cal go forth with her union with Ren or will she take a chance with Shay instead? And what will they find in the book, could it change everything Cal has ever believed in?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars!! The main characters are great and so complex. Nightshade keeps you guessing the whole book through! A little of the plot is predictable but it's still entertaining. Plus, I will admit that the books ends on a cliff hanger, where I'm not sure what will happen in the next book anymore. I'll definitely be keeping up with this series the whole ride through!!

Book Teaser(s) :
"Thanks." His quiet murmur was strained. He cleared his throat. "It's a little hard to cope with the growing realization that I have no idea who I really am."
I laughed quietly.
Shay tensed. "Is that funny?"
I twisted my fingers through his hair. "No. It's just that to me, it sounds a little interesting. I've always known exactly who I am and what I would be."
He straightened and I released him from my arms though I remained crouched next to his chair.
"Do you wish you were something other then what you are?"
"No," I said quickly. "We are who we are. I have no desire to be something else. But right now I'm afraid of what it means for those who I care about." ~ within Chapter 16

This paranoia is distressing. But I spend most of my night guessing. Are we not, are we together? Will this make our lives much better?
