Made the Grade: Face The Music by Andrea K. Robbins

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 601 KB | Release Date: June 2012 | Publisher: Self-Published | Obtained: Smashwords

"Face The Music" by Andrea K. Robbins

My Book Summary : Six months ago, Allison (Allie) got her heart stomped on by her then-boyfriend of about three years, Paul, by him just up and moving after saying that she "was sucking the life out of him." Now she plans on keeping her heart safeguarded and just staying friends with any guy that comes along. Which seems pretty easy, especially when she has a lot on her plate. To begin with she’s the "bread earner" in her family (consisting of her 21-year-old sister, her 4-year-old niece, and her grandmother who's in a assisted living home) while taking on a full college work load to earn her Ph.D. and working as a teacher for the latest hit reality singing show Superstardom. It all makes it so Allie stays busy without having a love life or caring about not having one.

That is until one of the lead competitors of the show, 27-year-old Chris Knots, starts taking notice of her. At first, Allie puts everything between them down as a crush on her end and Chris just being nice. However, over time they both come to realize what's between them is so much more. If only they can keep what they have real while the fame of the show and Chris' leading "stardom" surrounds them. Will they make it?

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars, this is a thought provoking take on the reality singing show world that kept my attention wrapped while having me rooting for Allie and Chris the whole way!! I am surprised to say that since Allie mostly annoyed me throughout this novel, because of how she doesn't commit until the last minute. However, I understood that all problems with committing to Chris (or anyone for that matter) because of how badly burned she was and afraid of heartache she is again. As I pushed on, I could feel myself growing to love her close-knit group of friends and family! It turns into a very sweet moving romance story that I could not put down. And I'm sooo happy about whom Jake ends up with since I was hoping that from the beginning!!

All in all, I recommend this novel to anyone who likes contemporary romances, especially ones where the main male character in a hot singer!!

Book Teaser(s) :
Teaser #1 ~ within Chapter 1
With the look he was giving me I couldn’t have said no even if I wanted to.
I dished out the soup, and we sat across from each other at the small table. “You made this?” he asked, scooping up a carrot and a noodle.
“Yeah, it was my mom’s recipe. She always made it for us when we were sick.”
He took a bite, chewed, and swallowed hard. “Wow,” he said, reaching for his glass. That wasn’t quite the reaction I was expecting. I took a quick bite and immediately spit it back out into the bowl. “Oh my gosh, it’s horrible! Don’t eat it!” I said when he lifted his spoon for another taste.
“It’s not that bad,” he chuckled. “It sure doesn’t need salt, though, does it?”
“I halved the recipe, but I must have used the wrong measuring spoon.” I snatched his bowl and staggered for the sink. I couldn’t move too quickly, walking boot and all. “I’m so sorry, this is awful!”
“Hey, I was going to eat that!” he protested as I dumped the contents of the bowl.
“Well, now you’re not!” ~ within Chapter 11
His bedroom door cracked open. “Are you ready?”
Was I ready? What a good question that was. I thought I was ready, but what, exactly, was I ready for?
“Allie?” The door opened wider, and he poked his head out.
“Yep,” I said, my voice soft. “Whenever you are.”
He opened the door the rest of the way and looked at me. I flushed and tried to wiggle further down the table. My heels were already at the edge.
“I thought maybe you’d bolted. Thought I’d scared you off or something.”
“I don’t scare too easily,” I said boldly.
He grinned. “Good to know. I’m going to use coconut oil. It’s raw and organic, what my sister uses on her clients.”
“What if I’m allergic to coconuts?”
He froze and looked down at me. “Are you?”
“No.”
His lips twitched into a smile. ~ within Chapter 20

Book Excerpt :

Geoff wanted to retract his words. Had he just offered to be Fuzzy's Gay for Dummies guide? Did his brain not work properly around this bear? He couldn't possibly talk to this man about sex without sporting the biggest boner in the world. Talk about bad, bad ideas! The worst! On the other hand, he couldn't help smiling and wondering just what Fuzzy would ask. By the look on Fuzzy's face, Geoff doubted he could even think of anything anyway.

"It's just a suggestion, but if you aren't comfortable enough to ask me any questions—"

"I don't want you to think I'm an ass or something." Fuzzy mumbled his words so softly they were barely audible.

"Throw a question at me."

Geoff noted that Fuzzy hadn't met his gaze at all since rising from the floor. In fact he seriously studied the two men on the television. Geoff had almost died of humiliation when he realized what channel he had left the TV on. Now he considered it a blessing in disguise.

"Okay." Fuzzy's soft voice caused Geoff to focus again. "They both seem to enjoy it." Fuzzy addressed Geoff while nodding at the entertainment they inadvertently partook of.

Huh? "Well, if you're not enjoying sex, then there's a good possibility you might be doing something wrong."

"Never mind." Fuzzy's neck turned red in embarrassment, and Geoff immediately realized his mistake.

He scooted closer to Fuzzy and put a hand on his arm. "Sorry. There's a malfunction with my brain to mouth filter half the time. The good news, you'll always know what I'm thinking. The bad news, you'll always know what I'm thinking." He chuckled to lighten the mood. "So, we both agree they're enjoying themselves. Your question?"

Fuzzy took in a deep breath but still didn't turn his head toward Geoff. If staring ahead helped Fuzzy through this conversation Geoff could handle that. Because he really wanted inside Fuzzy's head, all puns intended. Could this mean something? Or did Geoff's own desires put possibilities out there that didn't exist?

"I'm not an idiot. I get the mechanics of what they're doing, but shouldn't it hurt?"

The mechanics? Oh wow, Geoff almost didn't have anything to say to that.

"First, what they're doing is having sex. It's okay to say the word. You don't have to refer to the act as 'it' all the time. Second, the pain level depends on the preparation you do beforehand. Also, if you have a partner who's only interested in getting his rocks off, then yeah, that tends to land on the not good side."

"Preparation? You mean butt plugs?"

Geoff had to remind himself that Fuzzy wasn't a blushing virgin, even if he kind of fell into that category in this situation. "Well, yeah, that's one way of doing it. I own a few myself. They are good for masturbation. But that's not my favorite way."

"What's your favorite way?"

"I like my lover to stretch me. I like his fingers inside me getting me ready. It's more of a connection. In my opinion, if he wants to take the time to relax me properly, then he cares about both of our pleasure and not just his."

"So you let someone stick their fingers up your, um…"

"Ass? Yeah, that's where the action will happen, so that's a good place to begin." Geoff patted himself on the back for not laughing out loud.

"But doesn't it seem weird letting someone touch you there?"

God save me from newbies. Now he understood why Fuzzy hesitated to ask his questions. He guessed vocalizing some of them without seeming either insensitive or downright rude might trip him up. "Does it seem weird when you touch a woman's pussy?"

The red on Fuzzy's neck darkened. "That's different."

"Why?"

Fuzzy finally tore his eyes from the television screen and studied him. "Well, because, um..." His voice wavered off, and Geoff supposed he contemplated the question seriously. "I guess no, not so different, huh?"

Geoff wondered if it was wrong to want to do a happy dance. He'd gotten through the first roadblock. Unfortunately, another one always waited around the bend.

"What does it feel like when someone" —Fuzzy took a breath before continuing— "when someone stretches you?"

Welcome to the next roadblock.

Geoff searched his mind for the perfect words to describe that sensation. Words that would appeal to Fuzzy. He had to get this right because honestly, one half of his mind had begun plotting when the conversation turned down this road. If he played it right, if God truly existed, if Fuzzy labeled himself bi-curious—or more—maybe, just maybe, this could turn into a show-and-tell instead of just tell.

"It's a connection that's not easily surpassed. In my opinion, it's as intimate as a good kiss or actual penetration. Someone taking the time to make sure you enjoy the moment as much as they will. Talk about heady stuff. But I don't believe that's what you meant by feel, you meant the physical feelings not emotional, correct?"

Fuzzy simply nodded, the acknowledgement Geoff waited for. He knew that's what Fuzzy wanted all along but had seized the opportunity to verbalize what an act like this meant to him.

"Well, a burning sensation, but if done properly, it shouldn't hurt as much as you would assume. Also, if you're distracted in the right way during the stretching, well, so much the better."

"It doesn't hurt?"

Geoff searched around for a hard object to bang his head on. "Tell me. Exactly how curious are you about this subject?"

Fuzzy eyed him warily. "What do you mean?"

"How about a little round of show rather than tell?"

"Saint's Curse: Luke" by Lee Brazil

Publication Released Date : July 6, 2012

Authors' Book Description :

Luke Leveraux hates seeing suspicion darken Jeremy St. James's eyes when he leaves for his monthly hunting trip, but some secrets just can't be shared

On the surface artist Luke Leveraux has it all: money, a fantastic historical home, talent. When his boyfriend Jeremy moves in, his life should have been perfect. But Luke's hunting expeditions are a cover for something much darker, and he doesn't dare expose his lover to this unpredictable side of his life.

Art teacher Jeremy St. James has always known about his lover's hunting trips. He just expected that they would stop when he moved in with Luke. Or, at the very least, that he might be included in the monthly excursions.

Someone else knows Luke's secret, though. Someone determined to put an end to the situation.

Book Excerpt :

It was another of those mornings when Luke awoke, washing blood from his hands. He stared into the cracked sink basin and shuddered as trails of soapy bubbles and pink washed-out blood swirled down the drain. The blinding light from the single bare bulb above the small mirror hurt his eyes. He hated his face in that mirror more than the blood washing through the drain.

His muscles ached, his jaw clenched. His skin went clammy and a chill wave of cold washed over him. Luke's guts heaved and he lurched to the side, squeezing his eyes tightly shut. The churning in his belly intensified and he leaned over the toilet bowl, gagging and heaving as whatever the hell he'd eaten the night before came back up. Clutching tight to the bowl as wave after wave of nausea cramped his belly, he dropped to his knees in the tiny space. The cement floor abraded his bare knees, but he didn't care.

Shards of gritty bone and bits of sinew scratched his throat on the way up, and the coppery scent of blood filled his nostrils. He retched and gagged, flushing the toilet repeatedly, until acrid stomach bile was all that came up. Sagging, he rested his head on his crossed arms on the toilet. He craved nothing more than to sleep right then and there. Despite the weakness and lingering agony the transformation caused, he had to shower.

Luke dragged himself upright, leaning against the wall, and he stretched a shaking hand past the clear plastic shower curtain to turn the hot water on. Dried blood matted his hair, caked various parts of his body. The acid odor of vomit, mingled with the coppery scent of blood, made his stomach heave, but it was empty. He had to shower, and then clean up the bathroom and the rest of the cabin. He'd never sleep if the smell of blood stayed on him, in the air around him.

"Shelton's Homecoming" by Dianne Hartsock

Publication Released Date : June 29, 2012

Authors' Book Description :

Shelton’s coming home, but after seven months of living apart, can he and Nevil pick up from where they’d left off?

Shelton’s grown tired of living a life separate from Nevil. So when Nevil is hurt in an accident at work, Shelton comes home for good. Feeling closer than ever to his lover, Shelton’s ready to make a lasting commitment to their relationship. But is that what Nevil wants? Nevil is less than enthusiastic when an old flame marries, leaving Shelton wondering if he’ll have to keep his dreams on hold indefinitely.

Book Excerpt :

The doctor returned as promised; checked Nevil over; and discharged him.

"I left a prescription at the nurse's station for you to pick up on your way out. Pain meds for the headache I know you're hiding; and you can also take them for your arm."

"Thank you, Andrew," Nevil said with his charming smile.

Shelton gave the love of his life a dry look. Always the flirt. He shook the doctor's hand and took the copy of the release papers from him. "Thank you for taking such good care of him. I have to tell you it was a relief to find him here rather than in ICU."

"It was my pleasure. Take care."

Nevil collected his prescription at the front desk and they made their way to the elevators. A soft rain fell as they emerged from the hospital entrance and made a dash for the train depot. Deep in thought, Shelton chewed his lip while they waited.

He glanced at Nevil beside him and noted the white set of his lips. "I could take you home first if your head hurts. There's no reason I can't retrieve the car myself later and pick up your prescription."

Nevil gave him a smile and slipped his warm hand into Shelton's. "Let's pick it up together. I feel like I've just been released from prison. I want to be outside for a while."

"Just don't get chilled," Shelton said, and then he groaned. "Please ignore me. I think I left my brain back in Colorado."

Nevil chuckled. "As long as your luscious body is here," he murmured and smacked his lips together.

Shelton glanced around quick. No one paid them any attention so he gave Nevil a light kiss; then wished he hadn't as every nerve in his body ignited. He wanted Nevil wrapped around him--now; with Nevil's gorgeous cock buried deep inside him.

He jerked his gaze down the tracks; embarrassed and aching. He hoped Nevil hadn't noticed the tremble in his hands. They would pick up the Prius and go home; where Nevil would take his meds and go to bed. Shelton would have to content himself with a shower where he could get rid of the hard-on he'd suffered all morning. The idea made him feel alone and without a thought he squeezed Nevil's hand.

Nevil leaned close to whisper in his ear, "Don't forget ... you promised to let me 'do' you."

Shelton laughed, breathless. He turned back to Nevil and touched his lips with an unsteady finger. "I'm holding you to that," he said, then sucked in air when Nevil's velvet soft lips closed over his fingertip. He watched in captive fascination as his digit disappeared bit by bit between those pale lips. He felt the roughness of Nevil's tongue in the moist, hot depths; then Nevil pushed the finger to the roof of his mouth and started to suck on it. God! Shelton's prick hardened more with each draw as Nevil’s tongue undulated around his finger; his balls were tight and ached.

"Damn, Nevil ... stop! You're going to get us arrested," he panted in his lover's ear. He knew that at any second he was ready to drag Nevil behind the hospital and fuck him senseless. Nevil's throaty laugh made him shiver with bliss. "The train’s coming."

Shelton dropped his head on Nevil's shoulder and fought to calm his unsteady senses. Nevil didn’t play fair. He almost sobbed when Nevil's body heat wrapped around him and teased him closer when it was time to pull away.

"Come on, Love. It won't take long to get the car and then we can go home," Nevil said with encouragement and he tugged on his sleeve. Shelton boarded the sleek train car; but chose to stand when Nevil patted the seat beside him. He couldn’t tell where Nevil's fingers would roam if he sat down. Nevil gave him a delighted smile in answer as he read his mind with ease. Shelton scowled and looked out the window as the train gathered speed. His errant mind pictured Nevil's mouth on him as they swept along the tracks; and he had to stifle a moan in his throat.

"Seduction to the Altar" by Tia Dani

Publication Released Date : June 20, 2012

Authors' Book Description :

What happens when a woman decides to give her younger assistant a birthday present he will never forget? Love, sex, and mind-blowing orgasms.

Maria Tortorici needs a husband. Her high-school reunion is imminent, and awaiting her is a bet she made long ago. Bring a husband or face the music. But will he still want her once he learns of her conniving plan?

Book Excerpt :

His gaze followed her hand to the strap, and his eyes deepened in color. "You're right on time." He reached for her free hand and gave it a slight squeeze. Yet his gaze swept downward and centered on the low neckline of her dress. "You look stunning." His voice turned husky.

"Th-thank you." Hearing the huskiness, her nerves instantly knotted in the pit of her stomach. So much for being in control. For the first time in her adult life, her excited emotions jumped as if she were a high school virgin again. She ran her tongue over her bottom lip. "Would you like to sit inside or out on the patio while we have a drink?"

"Whatever you prefer."

Maria flashed him what she hoped was her sexiest smile as she leaned her back against the bar. Her heart fluttered when his gaze again darted to her cleavage. "Since it is your birthday, why don't you make the decision?"

"Let's stay in here then." His hand reached around her to settle firmly at the small of her back. "It's quieter. We can talk without having to yell at each other."

As he guided her toward a darkened corner booth at the far end of the bar, she caught the fragrance of his cologne, woodsy and all male. The seductive combination went straight to her head, making her dizzy with desire.

While she scooted into the plush seat, his hand moved from her back and lingered momentarily on her bare shoulder. The heat of his fingertips burned her flesh long after they'd left her skin. Finally, he slid into the seat next to her, close enough that his khaki chinos touched her bare thigh, sending an electrical charge up her leg.

Edward signaled for the cocktail waitress then turned his attention back to her. "What's your pleasure tonight, Miss...Tortorici?" He finished her last name slowly, sensuously.

You!

Pulling into the drive, he turned to face Jesse, who had one hand on the door handle and an uncertain look on his face. Cautiously, sensing that Jesse wasn't immune to him, Drake gave in to his earlier temptation. He reached out and ran his hand down the side of that gorgeous face. When Jesse leaned into his touch, Drake's pulse sped up and he curled his finger around the back of Jesse's neck, threading his fingers into the still-damp blond locks. Tilting Jesse's head up, he leaned down, staring deep into the blue eyes, looking for any sign that his kiss was unwelcome. Jesse's eyes widened, and he expelled a sweet rush of air that hotly caressed Drake's lips. Drake sighed and brought their mouths together. Pausing, he again gave the skittish Jesse a chance to pull away. When no objection came, he tilted his head and caressed the full lower lip with his own, adoring the soft warmth, reveling in the delicate intimacy.

With a breathy whimper, Jesse's mouth opened slightly and Drake took full advantage. He swept his tongue inside, tracing hungrily over smooth velvety surfaces, teasing and massaging Jesse's timid tongue with his own. The sweet flavor and delicious heat, the residual taste of raspberry and dark chocolate intoxicated him, and he wanted more. He moaned loudly and pulled Jesse closer, pressing his mouth open wider, coaxing a response from the trembling man in his arms.

A sudden flash of bright light from a passing car startled him and Jesse shoved him away, breathing heavily. "Oh my God," he whispered, huge eyes locking on Drake's face. "I can't."

"Jesse? I'm sorry I got carried away. It's just...you're so damn sexy. I know I overstepped. Look. It's late. Can I see you again?"

"No. Not I can't sleep with you. I want to. But I can't. There's someone else."

Drake jerked back as if slapped. "Someone else? And you couldn't call him to help you, I suppose?"

"You assume it's a him?"

Drake snorted in response. He damn well knew the someone else was a him. No straight man wore three-inch heels in the rain, no matter how fucking short he was. Not to mention, he'd likely have been punched square in the jaw at the first touch if Jesse weren't gay.

"I know it's a him. Just like I know you can't be all that in love with him if you can kiss me like that."

Spreading the Word: Forgotten Visions

Today I'm turning my blog over to Lia Davis author of "Forgotten Visions," which is the 1st book in The Divinities Series, since it's her RELEASE DAY!

"Forgotten Visions" [The Divinities Series, Book 1] by Lia Davis

Publication Released Date : July 11, 2012 (TODAY)

Authors' Book Description :

Kalissa Bradenton isn’t your average coffee shop owner. Born to an elite witch bloodline with a rare genetic mutation, she’s a Divinity on a mission. The death of her parents sends her away from her Maxville, Florida, home and into an ancient war between witches and demons. When childhood friend Ayden Daniels comes to her aid after an almost fatal accident, visions of a past she doesn’t remember sparks an old flame and new desires. With the past slowly becoming clearer, she eagerly sets her sights on mending Ayden’s heart and gaining his trust–until a ghost from her past returns to claim her as his demonic mate.

Ayden, the new Sheriff of Maxville and grandson of the oldest living Divinity, is investigating a series of Divinity killings. When he comes face-to-face with the one woman he hopes to have little to no contact with, old pain rises, quickly followed by anger and resentment. Through his rare power of adaptability, he learns actions from the past may not be what they seem. Hope fills his broken heart and determination pushes him to do whatever it takes to win Kalissa’s heart once more before he loses her forever.

Together they must find the strength to mend their tormented souls, while fighting an evil out to destroy the world.

Book Excerpt :

A cool sensation passed over Kalissa Bradenton’s subconscious as she entered her bedroom. She shivered, suddenly finding it hard to breathe. Abandonment rose from deep inside to coil around her like a cold watery current. Panic and fear raced in her veins as her heart rate increased alarmingly. Her intuition screamed something was wrong.

She rushed to her dresser, picked up her phone with shaky hands, and dialed her mother’s cell. No answer. With blurred sight, she tried her father’s ... it went straight to voice mail. Kalissa’s dread cut through her soul and the bile taste of fear rose in her throat, as hot tears slid down her cheek.

Gods No! She dialed again, and again. Still nothing. It wasn’t like them to ignore an incoming call.

Her parents had driven into Jacksonville for a quiet dinner to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary before sharing their milestone with the coven in the upcoming days. They should have been on their way home.

She staggered back a few steps as images flashed in her mind’s eye, sucking her into the vision. One minute she was in her bedroom, in the next, she stood on the side of a highway. A royal-blue Mercedes barreled past her and flipped repeatedly across the median into oncoming traffic on Interstate 10. Crunching metal cut through the stillness of the night and the broken glass, littering the ground, left a trail to where the car slammed into a large oak tree, and stopped.

When the vision cut off, tightness gripped her chest painfully and a lump stuck in her throat.

Made the Grade: The Other Soldier by Kathy Altman

    - This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Paperback - Pages: 288; Kindle Edition - File Size: 549 KB | Expected Release Date: June 26, 2012 | Publisher: Harlequin SuperRomance | Obtained: NetGalley

"The Other Soldier" by Kathy Altman

My Book Summary : The day that Sergeant First Class Dean (Tim) died changed the lives of not only Parker (his wife) and their daughter Natalie (Nat) but also the life of Corporal Reid Macfarland (the man who accidentally killed Tim). In effort to make amends, try to ask forgiveness, and forgive himself for the death of Tim, Reid decides to take a month of leave, meet Parker, tell her he's sorry, and find out if there is anything he can do during his month of leave to help Tim's family out.

After Parker meets and finds out who Reid is, she immediately wants nothing to do with him. However, trying to establish a struggling gardening business is hard to do when there are no extra funds to deal with. So, after Parker's friend and employee, Harris, persuades her into thinking that Reid helping them out during his leave would be valuable she reluctantly agrees.

Soon though Reid finds himself wanting more then forgiveness from Parker & Nat, he wants something he hasn't had in a long time .... a family, with them. Can Parker, Nat, & Reid be able to get over what happened between them enough to think about their possible futures or is the heartache and loss to great?

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars. This is a sweet novel about love, friendship, and finding out how to forgive. The plot was elegantly written in a way that you could understand what the characters were going through while keeping the storyline light and fun. Also, I liked how Parker's role was written in a way that she always stayed truthful to herself and her love for Tim (her dead husband).

I recommend this novel to anyone who likes to read military romances.

    Book Teaser(s) :
He's shut Chance inside the greenhouse.
Shit. How the hell had the dog gotten in without Reid noticing?
He yanked open the door and startled the Lab just as he was lifting his leg in the corner. "Whoa! Hold on there, boy." Her hustled over and bent down to grab hold of the collar and caught air instead. Chance dove under the nearest table. Damned dog wanted to play. Reid grabbed for the Lab's tail and missed. Chance scampered halfway down the concrete path, looked back at Reid and pissed on the nearest table leg. "All right," Reid growled. "Game on." ~ within Chapter 6
Rough, expectant laughter. Then Noble Johnson pushed his way to the front of the crowd and Reid rolled his shoulders up and back. Here we go.
The pale-haired giant set aside a half-empty mug of beer, licked his thumb and bounced twice on the balls of his feet.
"Too bad I never collected on that keg," Gallahan muttered.
"We survive this and I'll throw in an autographed poster of Halle Berry."
    "In her James Bond bikini?"
    "Nothing but."
    "Deal." ~ within Chapter 13

Disappointmentville: Good Girl Series, Book 1

    - This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Paperback - Pages: 304; Kindle Edition - File Size: 1027 KB | Expected Release Date: May 1, 2012 | Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca | Obtained: NetGalley

"Where There's Smoke" [Good Girl Series, Book 1] by Karen Kelley

My Book Summary : Destiny is a demon-in-training who only needs to catch/sign-up one more soul before she'll be able to become a demon and have everything she desires, or at least this is what she was told and believes. She now has one week and one day back on Earth to be able to find a person who's willing to give their soul up to her, and she thinks she has found the perfect person in Chance.

But little does she know that Chance knows who and what Destiny is and has his own agenda. As being, a nephilim (a immortal who has a mortal for a mother and an angel for a father) he and his "brothers" work to answer prayers and save the souls of the mortals on Earth as much as they can. Destiny being Chance's latest "project" is going to be tougher then anything Chance has ever dealt with before, because they have an instant chemistry and a strong attraction between them that sparks every time that they are around each other.

Then because of their budding relationship, will either of them be willing to follow through with their plans?? Will Destiny really want to condemn Chance to hell for eternity? Can Chance save Destiny's soul for the price of never to be able to be with her again??

My Book Review : 2.5 out of 5 stars, good vs. evil in it's most extreme but can love concur all? This is an intriguing start to this series!! I loved the characters! Destiny and Chance were a wonderful match that I couldn't get enough of!! Plus, Ryder, Dillon, and Hunter were hilarious in their antics---I cannot wait to read their books.

Even so, I really didn't like the plot that much. I mean I understood it and I enjoyed it right up until Destiny first says, "I love you," to Chance but then there were way to many misunderstandings and it all felt so rushed that I couldn't give this novel a higher rating then I did. I wish I could have liked and enjoyed it more but I just couldn't.

Yet I hope you to enjoy it and I recommend it to those who like reading about angels and sort-of demons getting together.

    Author's Book Trailer :

    Book Teaser(s) :
She sauntered strolled out of the room. He couldn't take his eyes off the seductive sway of her hips, and when there was nothing else to watch, her essence lingered. If he was that susceptible to her charms, what was it going to be like when he had her naked? His dick jerked at the image that created.
    Deep breath.
He creathed in, then out, then in---
You're hyperventilating, idiot! He slowed his breathing down and the lights stopped dancing in front of his eyes.
    Better.
He could do this. He only had to remember what was at stake. Chance wasn't about to let a damned demon torture Destiny for all eternity. ~ within Chapter 5
Something banged hard against the wall. "What the hell was that?" He paused.
    "Demon," she gasped.
For a moment, he couldn't breathe. There was a demon nearby? That went in the bad column.
"Demon. Neighbor. Battle-axe," she panted. "Same thing. Please, go back to what you were doing," she begged.
Destiny was greedy. He liked that about her, and as long as she wasn't talking about a real demon, Chance was happy to oblige. ~ within Chapter 12

Disappointmentville: You & Me Trilogy, Book 1

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 298 KB | Release Date: April 2012 | Publisher: The Edge | Obtained: Amazon.com

"Saving You Saving Me" [You & Me Trilogy, Book 1] by Kailin Gow

My Book Summary : For the last few years now Samantha (Sam) has had a rough time at home---her father always mad at her for one thing or another while her mother seems to always be drinking one alcoholic beverage or another. She just cannot wait for her senior year to get over with so she can go to Stanford University to get away from her parents. But to be able to get into Stanford Sam's guidance counselor suggests that since she wants to become a psychiatrist it would look good on her application to volunteer as a peer counselor at the Sawyer House.

Sam reluctantly agrees. However, she soon finds herself becoming close to a guy who calls the Sawyer House to talk to her saying his name is Daggers. Yet as things get more serious between her and Daggers, Sam's life seems to be falling apart and Daggers' the only person she feels comfortable confiding in. So, who's really being saved more Daggers or Sam?

My Book Review : 2 out of 5 stars, this novel was more serious and intense about the issues that the characters have then I originally thought it would. Not that that was a bad thing. Since it made the novel that much more dramatic and interesting.

With that being said, it also made this novel feel a bit drawn out. I didn't enjoy it as much as I should have because Sam doesn't stick to her guns and she lets everyone around her (Daggers included at times) run over her and make all of her decisions. Then to top it off, when she receives a steamy kiss from Derek (another peer counselor), after telling him repeatedly that she didn't want to be anything more than friends with him, she doesn't pull away from his kiss. It made me mad. As well as, made me not want to finish the novel even though I did. Then to top it off the ending sucks. =0P

I hope whoever decides to read it likes it more than I did. Yet, I don't recommend this book.

    Book Teaser(s) :
Daggers called me on Friday with some news. "Susan, I'm happy to say my shrink says I've made improvements with my abusive relationship issue."
"You have a shrink?" I asked.
"Had one for a few years," he said.
"Then why did you start called Sawyer House?" I asked. "Not that you're not welcome, but because we're usually the first person callers would call."
"I was looking for someone who worked there, and ended up talking to you." Daggers chuckled. "Good thing, too. You've helped me make significant improvements."
"Well, are you going to stop calling the Sawyer House now?" I asked, feeling like my heart would break if he did.
"I should so you can use the time you talk to me on someone else, but I don't want to," he said.
"I don't want you to, too," I added.
"Why?" Daggers asked. ~ within Chapter 12

Blog Tour - Try Me by Diane Alberts | Interview & Giveaway

Today I'm turning my blog over to Diane Alberts, who I interviewed about her latest novel "Try Me," which is the 1st book in her Take a Chance Series!!

ALSO -- Be sure to check out Rafflecopter at the bottom of this post to be able to sign up for this blog stop's GIVEAWAY!! [Blog Tour will run from July 2 - 16, 2012]

My Q&A with Diane Alberts :

Diane : Thanks for inviting me here today to talk about "Try Me," the first book in the Take a Chance series.

Jess : Your welcome!! I'm glad to have you!!

What books did you enjoy reading while growing up?

Diane : Well, ironically enough...romance books! I started reading them when I was twelve, and haven’t stopped since. My first romance books I read were written by Jude Deveraux, Johanna Lindsey, and Julie Garwood.

Jess : Which of your characters would you most & least to invite to dinner, from which book and why?

Diane : Most: Erica and Jeremy from "Try Me." And Jeremy would only be let in the door if he was shirtless. I mean, look at those abs!

Least: Johanna’s mother from "On One Condition." I don’t care much for her.

Jess : What sparked the idea for your Take a Chance Series?

Diane : The first scene, where Jeremy is alone and beaten in a desert, and feeling sorry for himself. That scene rose in my head, and I hurried to get it written. And when I discovered he was a Marine? It made him even hotter. Seriously.

Jess : Is there one particular scene in "Try Me" that you’re dying for readers to read? Can you tell us anything about it?

Diane : The epilogue! ~laughs~ I’ve heard from a lot of readers, and this seems to be their favorite part—minus Jeremy’s abs. And it just so happens to be mine, too. If you buy it and read it, feel free to contact me and let me know if you agree!

Jess : If "Try Me" were to be made into a film, who do you see playing the main characters and why?

Diane : Channing Tatum as Jeremy—he so looks the part. He’d be perfect. And Nina Dobrev for Erica. I think she could get that whole haunted, uncertain quality down pat.

Jess : Which usually comes first for you, the character(s) story or the idea for the novel?

Diane : It varies, really. But for "Try Me," it was the first scene with Jeremy that got the juices flowing.

Jess : Please describe your hero, from "Try Me," in one to two sentences.

Diane : He’s hot with tattoos and a pair of abs that can inspire lust in anyone. But deep down, he’s longing for love from the one person he can never have—and can never stop loving.

Jess : In regards to your most recent novel, if you could write it all over again, would you change anything about it?

Diane : Nope, I don’t think so. I loved the characters, and the book itself. I love Jeremy and Erica. I wouldn’t change a thing!

Jess : How many books have you written? Which is your favorite and why?

Diane : I’ve written fifteen novels and novellas. I think. There might be more. All of them are either published or with publishers being considered. I’m an addict, and I can’t stop! ~grin~

And I can’t pick a favorite! I love them all. And if they found out I picked a favorite, what would they think? LOL.

Jess : Do you have any other projects in the works? If so, can you share a little of your current work with us?

Diane : I’m currently working on a fun enemies to lovers story that is taking me for a ride. It’s so refreshing to write characters that hate each other.

Also, the second book in the Take a Chance series will be out in a little while, and it’s called "Love Me." It’s Tommy’s story.

Thank you for having me here today! I hope to come back to visit again, soon!

Feasted On: The Accidental Movie Star by Emily Evans

    Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 1910 KB | Release Date: June 2012 | Publisher: Self-Published | Obtained: Amazon.com

"The Accidental Movie Star" by Emily Evans

My Book Summary : Every summer Ashley spends it in LA with her Hollywood executive father. However, this summer it's a little different since she is working as an unpaid production assistant on her dad's latest movie so she can show good work experience on her college applications. Every day she works there, she just finds another reason to enjoy her typical normal life in Texas with her mom, away from all of the drama that comes with casts and the "Hollywood scene."

Still she's surprised by her own instant "friendship" with the lead actor of the movie, Caspian (Caz). They have a unique bond that grows only stronger when her role has production assistant slowly turns over to his "personal assistant." Then even closer, when the director suddenly tells her to help Caz learn how to kiss and to get on camera for them!! Yikes!

Nevertheless, will things progress smoothly or will rumors and conniving crewmembers get in the way??

My Book Review : 4.5 out of 5 stars, this is a light, fun, and charming novel that I could not get enough of!! Caz and Ashley played off so well with each other that I wish there was a sequel novel so I could read more about them! Nevertheless, all of the characters had such get energy and chemistry that made this novel work so well!

Another reason for my thoroughly enjoy this novel was because of the new take assistant route that I have yet to read from. I don't know how else to describe it but I liked it!

I definitely recommend this novel to anyone who wants to read a young adult romance with a Hollywood-spin to it!!

    Book Teaser(s) :
    "Show me your tea source."
"You have a trailer with a kitchenette."
    Caz shrugged again.
"Fine, let me know when you have a break. We'll need at least twenty minutes."
    Caz's eyes brightened. "We can---"
Sipping from the cup intended for Caz, Garrett joined them. Ashley narrowed her eyes and shook her head at the tea thief.
Garrett grinned around the white plastic lid. "I prefer tea with extra sugar, no milk."
    "It wasn't yours," Caz said.
Ashley looked at Caz pointedly as he sipped from her cup--like he had any room to point fingers. ~ within Chapter 7
"Here." She set the cup down on the prop desk. Caz wore the uniform of a young police sergeant.
Caz sniffed at the cup, smelling the coffee. "That's not tea."
Ashley rolled her eyes. "I know, the director said to give it to you."
    "You know I drink tea."
"I know. If you say that one more time, I'm not going to be happy."
    "I know." ~ within Chapter 13

Disappointmentville: Love Walked In by Marisa de los Santos

Format: Paperback | Pages: 307 | Release Date: December 2006 | Publisher: Plume | Obtained: Friends of the Pasquotank-Camden Library - Fall Book Sale

"Love Walked In" by Marisa de los Santos

My Book Summary : When Martin walked into the cafe that Cornelia managed she didn't realize but her life was about to change forever. Cornelia definitely is smitten with him; especially since he's exactly her, type and looks just like Cary Grant (whom she has a crush on for years). Nevertheless, their relationship isn't an easy one especially when Martin takes a while to open up and he has a few secrets, Clare being one of them.

Clare is Martin's eleven-year-old daughter who is dealing with her own issues that seem to be getting out of control. She and her mother (Viviana) used to be a duo that always worked together. Yet recently Viviana has been acting strangely, not her normal-self, and not being a very good mother either.

Soon Cornelia, Clare, & Martin's lives will change in ways that none of them expect and in some ways that make them better people. If only everything else could work out the way, they want it to.

My Book Review : 2.5 out of 5 stars, this is a moving story about what happens when love comes to you in unexpected ways. I really did not enjoy this story, mostly because I hated Clare's parents (Martin & Viviana). They were both too self-involved for my liking. Plus, even though the ending was sweet and I liked who Cornelia ended up with, it still didn't end the way it should have.

I don't recommend this book but it you decide to read it then I say I hope you'll enjoy it more than I did.

On a side note -- I loved Cornelia and the way she was described. Since she's described as being quirky, a small woman, with dark short hair, and all I kept thinking about was how she was just like Kristan Higgins' Cordelia from "Until There Was You."

Author's Novel Extras : Acclaim | Excerpts | Reading Group Guide

    Book Teaser(s) :
I brought up the previous tweaked quotation mainly to discuss how it's only partly accurate because, as far as I can tell, no matter what the circumstances, parenthood is thrust upon a parent. No one is ever quite ready; everyone is always caught off guard. Parenthood chooses you. And you open your eyes, look at what you've got, say "Oh, my gosh," and recognize that of all the balls there ever were, this is the one you should not drop.
