Blog Tour - Broken Love by Kelly Elliott | Special Announcement / Spreading the Word

Today I'm turning my blog over to Kelly Elliott author of "Broken Love," which happens to be the FOURTH BOOK in her Broken Series!!

When Kelly Elliott started to write "Broken Love" she decided what better way to write this fan wanted book than to let readers help write it!!

SO -- Every 3-4 weeks Kelly will write a few chapters and at the end there will be a few questions that the readers can vote on to decide which direction this novella will go.

"Broken Love"
[Broken Series, Book 4] by Kelly Elliott

Author's Book Description :
Ava is left with a broken heart that she fears she will never recover from. Will a one night change Ava's future, or cause her to keep hanging onto the past?

    Synopsis coming soon.

You Pick The STORY!!! :

Prologue – Ava :

Nothing about my relationship with Johnny was normal. We met and fell in love immediately. He asked me to marry him on our two-month anniversary and I said yes. My mother cried, and my father lectured me for three hours straight. He kept repeating, “This isn’t normal, Ava.”

What was normal anyway?

According to my father, knowing someone at least six months before agreeing to marry him or her was normal. I, of course, disagreed and let my whirlwind relationship with Johnny totally blind me of what I couldn’t see before my very eyes.

As I stood in front of four different cakes, I couldn’t help but glance around the bakery. Johnny and I were having a small wedding, held at his parent’s country club in Austin. His mother had insisted we not elope, which was exactly what we had both wanted to do.

Turning my attention to Johnny, I watched as he talked to the young redhead who had been helping us.

“So, have you narrowed it down?” she asked as she smiled brightly at Johnny and barely acknowledged I was there.

With a shrug of his shoulder, Johnny turned to me and said, “Ava, could I possibly talk to you outside for a moment?”

I gave Johnny a slight smile as I nodded my head. “Of course.”

Johnny placed his hand on my lower back and guided me out of the bakery. I frowned as I thought how his hand on my lower back should cause my stomach to dip. At least that is how it is for the girls in the romance books I read. The touch of his hand on my body should ignite my body in flames.

Ha! I’d never experienced those feelings before in my entire life. There was a reason it was called fiction.

As we stepped out of the bakery, I flashed him a smile as I decided maybe what we needed was some afternoon delight. Placing my hand on his chest, I licked my lips and purred, “I know something else I’d rather be tasting.”

Johnny looked away as he stared down the street with an empty look in his eyes. “Ava, I need to talk to you.”

My smile faded as I instantly gnawed on my lower lip. His voice was serious and I had a terrible feeling he was about to say something that was going to prove my father right.

“Okay, right now or after we pick out a cake?”

Johnny looked into my eyes and shook his head. “I need to be honest with you, Ava.”

My heart sank as I held my breath involuntarily before finding the air to speak again. “Honesty is always nice.”

As he closed his eyes I fought to hold back the tears I knew were about to fall.

“There’s someone else. I didn’t mean for it to happen, but it did. She's amazing and she makes me feel alive.”

Anger quickly raced through my body as I took a step back. “Is that so? Kind of like how I made you feel alive? Or does she make you feel alive in some other kind of way?”

Shaking his head, Johnny let out a sigh. “I’ve known Lisa almost my whole life. We ran into each other about a month ago and well, things just sparked between us.”

I placed my hand over my stomach and let out a moan. “Oh. My. God. You’ve been cheating on me?”

“No! Well, I mean it wasn’t like I did it on purpose. We fell in love, Ava and I can’t deny how I feel about her. I’ve only slept with her twice.”

My mouth dropped open as I stared at him with a blank expression. “Are you kidding me right now? Are you really that big of a dick that you would actually tell me you’ve only slept with her twice? Is that some how supposed to make me feel better you dickhead?”

Johnny glanced around as he took me by the arm and started walking toward his Audi. I hated that car. I hated him. I hated that my father had been right.

“I would have thought you would have been happy that I told you this before we got married.”

Holy freaking hell.

What did I ever see in this jerk?

Letting out a chuckle, I nodded. “No, you’re right. Better you told me before I went off and married you and God forbid had a child with you.”

“Ava, you have to admit this was all rushed. We got caught up in the whole romance side of things and lost focus on reality.”

“Reality? You think I’ve lost focus on reality? You know what’s real, Johnny?”

He lifted his hand and gently placed it on the side of my face. His thumb moved ever so slow as his eyes softened. “The pain you’re feeling right now, Ava. I know this hurts, but baby you’re going to find someone else.”

He did not. No. He. Did. Not.

“You got one part of that right. Pain. But it’s not the pain I’m feeling, it’s the pain you're about to feel you asshole.”

I lifted my knee and hit him right in the balls. I hadn’t seen a guy go down on one knee since I accidentally hit Walker in the balls with a golf club.

Johnny doubled over as he cried out in pain.

“Have a happy life with, Lisa.”

Turning on my heels, I walked away quickly. Not sure whether I should cry or scream, I pulled out my phone and dialed the one person I knew would understand.

My mother.

“Hey baby girl. How did the cake tasting go? Did you pick out a cake?”

Pressing my lips together, I tried to figure out how to deliver the blow. “No. But I did kick Johnny in the balls out on the sidewalk in front of the bakery.”

Silence.

“You remember that time I hit Walker with the golf club.”

“Yes,” my mother said slowly.

“Picture that. He went down on one knee pretty damn fast.”

“What happened?”

Rolling my eyes, I wiped the tears away. “He met someone else. Someone who made him feel alive. He had sex with her mom. The bastard cheated on me. I hate him.”

“Oh sweetheart. I’m so sorry this has happened to you. Baby, why don’t you head on home and spend a few days with us, I know your father would love to have you home.”

Laughing, I shook my head and said, “Oh I’m sure he would. The second he sees me he’s going to say I told you so.”

“He would not, Ava Moore. You’re father loves you and cares about you.”

Closing my eyes tightly, I whispered, “I know.”

Before I had a chance to open my eyes, I slammed into someone. My eyes flew open as my phone flew out of my hands and I let out a curse word.

“Shit!”

I had been stopped dead in my tracks. Dropping down, I reached for my phone and for the papers I’d just caused this man to drop. As I lifted my eyes, I sucked in a breath of air.

Beautiful hazel eyes stared into my blue. “I-I’m so sorry,” I said as I handed him a few pieces of paper.

The smile that spread across his face caused the earth to shake. Okay, not really, but it felt like it. I almost fell back onto my ass as I tried to contain the crazy feeling that zipped through my body when his hand brushed lightly across mine.

“I wasn’t looking where I was going,” I said as he helped me into a standing position.

The beautiful mystery man pinned me with his stare. My eyes roamed his perfect face. He was slightly tan, but I couldn’t tell if that was from the sun or his genes. His dark hair had that perfect messy look to it as he ran his hand through it and laughed.

“You don’t say? It’s not every day I run into a beautiful lady. I believe my day has officially been made.”

His voice sounded like an angel.

Okay, so I don’t really know what an angel would sound like, but if I could imagine it, I’d say this guy had it down. It was soft, yet masculine. Sexy, yet, compassionate.

“I’m glad,” I whispered.

He lifted his eyebrows and tiled his head as his eyes landed on my lips. “Glad you ran into me?”

My cell phone began ringing in my hand as I lifted it up to see it was my mother. Shit! I’d forgotten she was on the line. Giving him an awkward smile, I said, “No! Well, yes. No wait, I’m glad your day has been made … by me running into you.”

Oh dear God, Ava. Stop talking. Lifting my phone, I grinned and said, “It’s my mom.”

“May I at least get your name?”

My teeth sunk down into my lip as I let out a soft chuckle. “Ava.”

Mystery man’s eyes lit up as he gave me a slight nod, followed by the sexiest wink I’d ever seen. He lifted his hand to my chin and forced my eyes to his. If I hadn’t been acutely aware of every single action he made, I’d have missed his thumb move lightly over my bottom lip.

“The pleasure was most definitely mine, Ava.”

The stupid goofy grin on my face was evident as he chuckled, dropped his hand, and began walking off as I stood there in a stupor.

My phone rang again as I hit answer and whispered, “Hello?”

“Ava, are you okay? What happened?”

I shook my head to clear my thoughts as I glanced over my shoulder at my mystery man walking away from me. Getting a grip on myself, I headed toward my car. I was so thankful I had suggested meeting Johnny at the bakery.

“Sorry, Mom. I accidentally ran into someone. Hey, I think I’m going to do what you said. I need a few days of fresh country air. Besides, I can work from anywhere.”

I could practically hear my mother jumping. “Oh yah! When are you coming?”

“Today. I just need to go to my place and pack a bag.”

“Okay, sweetheart. Be careful driving, and we’ll see you in a few hours. Oh, I’ll make your favorite dinner!”

Reaching my car, I turned around again. I wasn’t sure why. Maybe I was hoping my mystery man would be standing there.

“Sounds great, Mom. I’ll let you know when I’m on my way. I love you, Mom.”

“I love you too, Ava. We’ll have you forgetting Johnny in no time.”

Slipping into the drivers seat, I started my car and said, “Johnny who?”

About the Author :

When Kasi Blake was in the third grade, she found out that a good story could get her out of trouble. Okay, some people call it a lie, but she didn't see anything wrong with using every skill available to her to avoid being grounded. Over the years, that didn't change. Her stories just grew more elaborate. When she was 12, she began to write them down, starting with a six-page tale about a boy from the wrong side of the tracks and the good girl that secretly wanted him. Kasi went on to write for Harlequin for a few years. Then, she published a vampire series on her own, and now she is publishing with Clean Teen.

Get ready for an exciting series on witches using their powers to play dangerous games at school. The first is "Crushed." You can find her on Twitter @kasiblake, on FB, and she has a website under her name.

"Dragon's Redemption" [Dragon Lore Series, Book 2] by Eden Ashe

Author's Book Description : The one female he isn't supposed to want, is the only one he's ever needed.

When her brother goes missing, everything in Lily Cage’s world turns upside down. Born a Hunter female, the last thing she needs is an attraction to Dallas, the scariest dragon in existence. The one known as The Destroyer. With peace between the Hunters and Dragons hanging by a thread, one wrong move on Lily or Dallas’s part could catapult them all back into war. But with Dallas playing by his own rules and someone on the outside decimating her life, they have a choice–stand and fight, or lose everything they never realized they wanted.

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars! About a thousand years ago, Dallas (The Destroyer) lost his family and potential mate to a hunter wiping them out. Now, at his King’s wedding, he meets a hunter who will change his life forever by making him wish for more. Yet, is he willing to sacrifice everything for this little hunter?

Intense and dramatic, this intriguing novel keeps its readers gripped in suspense until the very end! While I loved Dallas, Lily, and their developing relationship I had a hard time following the secondary plot, probably because this was the first novel in this series that I’d read. However, even with the confusion and at times feeling like the secondary plot dragged a bit, I absolutely could NOT get enough of Dallas and Lily! Together they made a dynamic duo who fit each other perfectly. I’d love to read more about them as this series continues.

I recommend this novel to those looking for a highly suspenseful, slightly erotic, paranormal dragon romance!!

“So you want me to love you, but you refuse to feel anything more than like for me?”
He worked his jaw. “I’m assuming by the look on your face yes is the wrong answer?”
She growled at him. An honest-to-the-gods growl that made him smile as fire and temper and the need to hurt him leapt into her eyes. There it was. He’d known she had magic buried inside of her somewhere.
“Yes,” she ground out. “It’s the wrong answer.” ~ within Chapter 16

Something is definitely wrong. After someone attempts to kill her, Kristen realizes there is more at risk than a few hundred dollars. She may be betting with her life.

My Book Review : 2 out of 5 stars. Going into her senior year of high school, Kristen is optimistic that this year will be great. However, from the first day things go from okay to terrible…
  • Her nemesis, Gina, calls her out in front of everyone.
  • Her sister bets her to “crush” Zach, one of the hottest/scariest boys in school, which leads to another rivalry unintended between her and her sister.
  • Now she has to deal with a Zach, who isn’t acting like a “crushed guy” should and instead of falling for her, he seems to hate her even more. Except for those rare occasions when he’s charming her…
From that day on life as Kristen knows it will never be the same. But will it be all for the best or will things just keep getting worse?

Wowza goes the drama! Suspenseful from beginning to end, this novel keeps its readers on their toes. It’s about witch/wizard families and what they’ll do for one another. While this dynamic cast is quiet entertaining, they also overload this novel with so much drama that if you don’t appreciate it then it’ll drag the readers down. That is actually what happened to me, it had too much drama for me to really like it. Nevertheless, Kristen, Zach, and their siblings create enough havoc in each other’s lives that if you are typically interested in dramatically suspenseful YA paranormal novels, that have a few romantic scenes included, then this might be more suited to you then me.

This wasn’t my type of novel. Yet, as I stated above this is for those who like suspenseful paranormal YA novels.

She wanted his jacket?
Zach blinked at her, completely thrown by her softly spoken command. She had obviously lost her mind. He didn’t like anyone touching his jacket, let alone wearing it. It had been the last gift his mother had given him before she’d died. Kristen Noah could pry it out of his cold, lifeless fingers if she wanted it. He certainly wasn’t handing it over to her like a lovesick idiot.
He’d planned to play along with her silly game, but now he didn’t think he could. He wasn’t going to pretend to date her. She was taking things too far. If she continued to push, he was going to push back. ~ within Chapter 3 - titled 'VENGEFUL'

"Awakening Power and Passion" [Flower Fae Series, Book 2] by Nicole Campbell

Author's Book Description : Jasmine Moonflower is an Earth Fae only interested in exploring her talents and developing her gifts. Upon reaching adulthood, she comes into her power and is urged to start looking for a mate. The Elders have said her heart would tell her who her mate is, but none of the males in her village speak to her heart.

Duke Halton Steel knows all about the Fae. Many of his people in Essex are at least part Fae, and he protects them from a dark sorcerer. He is pleasantly shocked when Jasmine literally falls into his arms one day in the woods. She and the Fae she saved from the dark sorcerer return to his keep for safety.

Can the duke, an ally in the form of a Sorcerer of Light, and Jasmine keep them all safe? Will their love be enough to boost Jasmine’s power enough to help the Sorcerer of Light destroy the Dark One?

My Book Review : 2.5 out of 5 stars. Just as Jasmine gets into what is considered the Fae adulthood, she gets herself into a bind by being caught by a powerful dark sorcerer called Tristen the Dark One. Tristen plans to force her to willingly marry him so he can then take her power as his own. However, Jasmine is stronger than even Tristen could have imagined and finds a way (along with others who were captured) to escape. Once escaped she meets Halton (Duke Roger Halton Steel the Second) who brings out a side of herself she never knew. Will she be able to really escape from Tristen and move on with her life for good?

This fast-paced fantasy romance brings new ideas to what the “typical fae life” could be while throwing the readers right into the nitty-gritty of it all. For me this novel was a little too fast-paced to be as enjoyable as I had liked. In addition, although I found Jasmine to be an entertaining character, and I enjoyed learning about her ways of doing things, by the time she meets Halton I found their relationship a bit forced. Also, while I admit that they have some enchanting chemistry and it was quite cool what her power does when they are together, I never got a chance to really appreciate them as a couple because of how the plot plays out.

Nevertheless, I WOULD still recommend to those looking for an intensely quick fantasy romance and/or to fans of this series!

Made the Grade: A Time for Everything by Mysti Parker

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Kindle Edition - File Size: 2602 KB | Expected Release Date: July 7, 2015 | Publisher: esKape Press | Obtained: Goddess Fish Promotions

"A Time for Everything" by Mysti Parker (aka Misty Baker)

Author's Book Description : After losing her husband and only child to the ravages of the Civil War, twenty-five-year-old Portia McAllister is drowning in grief. When she sees an ad for a live-in tutor in another town, she leaves everything behind in hopes of making a fresh start. But as a Confederate widow in a Union household, she is met with resentment from her new charge and her employer, war veteran Beau Stanford.

Despite their differences, she and Beau find common ground and the stirrings of a second chance at love until his late wife’s cousin, Lydia, arrives with her sights set on him. Burdened with a farm on the brink of bankruptcy, Beau is tempted by Lydia’s hefty dowry, though Portia has captured his heart.

In another time and another place, his choice would be easy. But love seems impossible amid the simmering chaos of Reconstruction that could boil over at any moment into an all-out battle for survival. Will Beau and Portia find their way into each other’s arms, or will they be swept away by raging forces beyond their control?

****

What readers are saying:

“The book truly encapsulated the situation of the time – a Confederate living in Union territory. The mere difference of opinion between Union and Confederate…the vestiges of the war…the consequences of one’s actions…the choice of who you love and how you show it.” ~Girl of 1000 Wonders Book Blog

*****

“If you enjoy stories from the Civil War then you will definitely enjoy this one. Don’t forget to grab the tissues before you start.” ~Heather, Goodreads Reviewer

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars, Portia’s (Po) life was ravaged because of the American Civil War. With both her husband and baby daughter now dead and not wanting to suffer the ramifications of depression any longer, she has decided to move on by putting her credentials to use and becoming a tutor for a young boy. However, the boy’s father Beau (Beauregard) came home from fighting in the war to find his wife dead and his farm falling apart, and isn’t ready to move on with his life. Both start off on rocky footing but just as they soon find their way to common ground and get a nice friendship going people from Beau past interfere into his life. Everything changes. Will Beau be able to create a life that he’ll be happy with? Can Po find a way to get over her grief while helping the boy in her care get over his own grief too? When unexpected love hits will both Beau and Po, can they be able to accept it or will others interfere enough to mess up both of their lives for good?

Not the lighthearted historical romance that I expected; yet it grips the reader with its dynamic characters and an intriguing plot from the very beginning. Basically, it was darker than I anticipated but it’s based in a more realistic setting then the typical historical romances that I’ve read before for this time-period. Nevertheless, I’m so happy with how this novel turns out, even though some of the twists that happened shocked me and at times, some of the characters choices upset me.

Portia and Beau deal with a lot more than their spouses’ deaths from the start of this novel and because of that hardship; it brings them closer than either of them ever expected. Reading about their harsh banter turning into calm friendship that grows into a strong bond was quite extraordinary and beautiful. They made a great couple! In addition, I LOVED their epilogue.

I recommend this novel to those looking for an intense historical romance!

Book Teaser(s) :
COME MID-MORNING, he was trimming the newest filly’s hooves. Harry occupied the next stall, doing the same with Crazy Girl. And it wasn’t going so well, much to Beau’s amusement and satisfaction.
“Ow!” That was the third “ow” of the morning.
“What now?”
“She bit my ass!”
Beau laughed. “She’s your girl, Harry. Be a good daddy now.”
“Ha, ha, you’re hilarious.”
“Just tie her head tighter and steer clear of those teeth.”
Ezra hollered from outside, “Looks like we’ve got company!”
Beau let the horse’s foot down gently, and with one hand on his aching back, he stood up straight and hollered back, “Be right there!”
Leaving the stable, he squinted into the sunlight and peered down the drive. A coach and two large carriages full of luggage rolled along toward the house. He pulled out his handkerchief and wiped his face and hands. Probably should have taken the time to wash up before they got there, but it was too late now.
Ezra gave him a one-armed bear hug. “Excited?”
“I can hardly contain my joy.”
“Be nice, Beauregard.”
The closer their company came, the harder it became to breathe. He didn’t really know how to feel. Never once had he considered remarriage in the two years since Claire had passed, but that possibility now rolled up their drive on four expensive wheels. Worse yet, he couldn’t deny the obvious. He’d be marrying for money, if he married her at all, and knowing that made him feel like a whore. ~ within Chapter 12
