Racist BOOKTUBE DRAMA? Reaction to Entitlement vs Elitism on #Booktube | @TheNovelLush

To quote Lauryn, "We gotta do better."

Below I am showcasing Lauryn, from The Novel Lush, recent video that was a mixture of a discussion video and a reaction/response video to another video that has been taken down. Lauryn eloquently states her position, which I highly agree with, against what this other BookTuber said about BookTube and POC BookTubers themselves. I had not seen the full videos from this other BookTuber I had just heard about her videos but Lauryn did track them down and included clips for us to understand both sides of the story more. What I saw from the clips is that this other BookTuber was quite ignorant and definitely has issues of her own. But I don't know her so for that I cannot be certain, yet it's hard to deny that her videos, for what I saw of them, were not something I would support at all.

So, the reason I'm posting Lauryn's response video here is because this ties into my previous blog support posts that I did which were Christina Marie's Christina Marie's Black Bookish Peeps Database & More & Jo's IS BOOKTUBE RACIST?. In Lauryn's video she covers it all including her response to the other BookTuber's videos. I wish I could get my thoughts across about the topic as well as Lauryn does but since I know I cannot I'm showing you hers.

In addition, underneath Lauryn's video I have included links to two other responses (one a youtube video and one a twitter post) that I feel should be checked out too.

Lauryn from The Novel Lush's video: We Are Not Your Token Knee Grows | Blackness and the Book Community | @TheNovelLush #BookTube

In 2018 I featured Lauryn of The Novel Lush's video titled Racist BOOKTUBE DRAMA? Reaction to Entitlement vs Elitism on Booktube and the quote from Lauryn I posted with that video was "We gotta do better.", which truly is still completely relevant today. I find that to be really sad but it is not untrue ... society needs to do better. But to be more specific BOOKTUBE needs to do better too. So, when Lauryn posted this video (the one below) I asked if she would be alright with me featuring here and I am only doing so because she stated it would be okay. Watch it! Watch it ALL. Are you wanting to hear all the spilled tea .... watch it. Are you here because BLACK LIVES MATTER ... watch it. Also, after watching it you should check out these links in support of the BLACK LIVES MATTER too: blacklivesmatter.com & blacklivesmatters.carrd.co

Nerd It This Way! shares 2 #BLM Videos | @M_E_Gosla #Booktube

Hi! So, I am sharing (with permission) two videos that Mahalia from Nerd It This Way! posted on her YouTube/Bookube channel in June 2020. Both videos were of Mahalia with her family (or just her husband) discussing past situations they had to deal with growing up, discussing the Black Lives Matter movement, and more. I truly encourage you to watch all of both videos. Also I appreciate Mahalia and her family for filming and posting these videos as they gave me (a white gal) more insight.

After watching Mahalia's videos you should check out these links in support of the BLACK LIVES MATTER too: blacklivesmatter.com & blacklivesmatters.carrd.co

IS #BOOKTUBE RACIST? | @jthegreatbiblio

I'm sharing Jo from Jo the Great recent video about her thoughts on if BookTube is racist. Like she states, this is not the first video of this kind to be brought up about diversity within the book world but more specifically the BookTube community nor will it be the last as everyone else keeps sharing their own stances. However, I do agree with most of her points and feel like I should share her video around as I did for Christina Marie a while back.

As I tell my own children no one is perfect ... we all have our flaws even if we don't realize what they are ... but talking about our thoughts, getting them out there into the world, and calmly discussing them with others IS the only way I feel that we as a whole can move forward. So, please hear out Jo ... follow her ... follow me ... comment wherever you like and lets get this momentum of communication to begin.

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check out Christina Marie's Black Bookish Peeps Database too.

"No Substitute" by Susan Diane Johnson

What was I thinking? : I have enjoyed other christian romance novels. I liked this novel's cover and its book description made it sound like a novel I would typically enjoy.

Author's Book Description : Former high-school sweethearts, thrown together by a matchmaking teenager, must forgive to find love.

Amy Welsh knew when she came back to the small Washington town of Goose Bay she'd eventually run into her high school sweetheart—the one who broke her heart seventeen years ago.

No longer the teenage boy she remembered, Quentin Macmillan could potentially be everything Amy's ever dreamed of. As she lets him into her life, the hurt she's tried to ignore resurfaces. Forgiveness isn't as simple—or easy—as it sounds, especially after Quentin and Amy discover his teenage daughter has been manipulating their feelings.

Will Amy open her heart to healing, and find the future God has prepared for her?

My Book Review : I'm going to be straight with you, I was not a fan of this novel. Now I'm going to put my professional hat on and TRY to nicely explain to you my view point about it. Yet, it can be hard to do so without ranting a bit so if you want to skip this section that’s okay.

1.5 out of 5 stars. A woman goes back to the town she lived in as a teen in hopes of overcoming her past and the man who left her behind. Yet, what she finds is a yearning for more still ... will she get what she yearns for or finally move on with her life.
