"Hollywood Ever After" [The Red-Carpet Series, Book 1] by Sasha Summers

My Book Summary : As a birthday trip, Claire visits her best friend, Shannon, in LA to take in the sites and relax for a while. However, not long after her plane pulls into the airport Shannon whisks her away to get pampered and dolled up for a big movie premiere that Shannon was a part of, much to Claire's excitement and dismay because it's something out of her comfort zone. Nevertheless, Claire seems to fit right in on the red carpet with her friend that is until she almost trips on the carpet right into the arms of Hollywood "IT" boy Josh Wiley!

Claire is instantly attracted to Josh, even though she's a bit older than he is, but doesn't think he would give her the time of day. That is until he seems find Claire out and get involved in the groups she's in during the movie's after party. As they get to know one another, they find that they have an instant connection to each other. The attraction grows even more over the few days they spend together.

Yet, regretfully, Claire goes back home to Texas and to her children leaving Josh. During their time away from each other Claire admits that she misses Josh more than ever, yet she also finds that while she was away her abusive ex-husband, Daniel, had decided that they should become a family again, and he won't take no for an answer. Will Daniel get in the way of the blossoming romance between Josh and Claire? Will Claire's dreams for something more for herself and her children come crumbling apart around her? Or will Claire & Josh actually get their happily-ever-after?

My Book Review : 4.5 out of 5 stars!! This intense Hollywood fairytale is one that keeps you entranced in its fast-paced, heartwarming, and dramatic ways. I was captivated by Claire's story, and the romance between her and Josh! It was moving to see her put her life together for her and her kids; and even though most of the changes in her life where sprung on her, Claire gets through this novel with a lot of grace and self-sacrifice that keeps you spellbound during some of the twists that come up. Especially during the last, few chapters ... WOW!

This is definitely not your typical "Hollywood romance" which is why everyone who likes those types of novels should read it! I also recommend it to anyone who enjoys contemporary romances that have a thriller-type of edge to it.

Teaser #1 ~ within Chapter 1
“What about you, Josh? Do you have anything to add?” The female reporter turned to him, flashing a sparkling smile.
Josh ran a hand through his hair, sending up a shriek from the crowds lining the red carpet. He shook his head at the sound, his smile uncomfortable. “I’m very happy.”
My heart thumped loudly and I felt myself smile as he spoke.
“Over the success of the movie?” the reporter asked.
“That’s nice too...” He nodded. He sounded amused.
The reporter jumped on it. “There’s something else, other than your record-breaking openings, making you happy? Wow, Josh, that’s pretty amazing. Care to share what it might be?” The reporter was leaning forward, waiting.
He shook his head, then stopped, a slow mischievous smile spreading across his face.
My eyes narrowed as I watched his face change. What are you up to? ~ within Chapter 8

Book Excerpt :

Two very large, strong hands caught me and I looked up into the most beautiful face I’d seen since this morning.

“Josh? Hi, Josh!” I squealed, bouncing in his arms as he smiled down at me. I kept bouncing, my racing heart thumping faster than the music as his hands slid around my back. “I didn’t know you were here.” I was smiling like an idiot.

“You’re a rather focused dancer.”

“I am! Never do it...dance, I mean. But it’s fun!” The song ended and I frowned.

He laughed. “Should I make them play the song again? I will if it will make that pathetic little frown disappear.”

Another song began. It was slower, but it still had a good beat. “No, I think this will work and I won’t sing–even better.”

“I liked your singing.” He was looking at me…the way he always looked at me.

I felt light-headed and dizzy as I stared up at him, wobbling on unsteady feet. I knew I was drunk, but now there was more than just alcohol heating me up from the inside.

His hands were firm, guiding me closer to him. I let one hand rest on his chest as we swayed together. Between the buzzing euphoria from my many drinks and the raging hunger burning in his eyes, my every nerve was tingling. I was more than a little pleased with life at the moment.

I quivered under his touch. His fingers splayed across my lower back, fitting us closer together. We danced with the music, our movements in sync with one another.

Under the flashing colored lights, my hand looked red and then green against the white of his shirt. I felt the heat of his skin, the solid strength of his muscles through the fabric of his shirt. His scent, his touch, his...presence stirred images of our night together, sharp in my otherwise foggy mind. My skin grew more sensitive and my senses flooded with him.

I was aching for him, all of him. Now. My breath grew short as I remembered how he felt buried deep inside me.

The rational side of my brain knew I was losing control, but there was too much alcohol in my system. I had no fear or inhibition. And I liked the fire raging inside of me.

My eyes slid to his mouth and I felt my tongue wet my lips.

His breath hitched and he closed his eyes. When he looked at me again, there was little doubt he knew exactly what I was feeling.

The song ended and I felt myself being guided from the floor.

“Taking her home?” Shannon had apparently returned to the table. She and Arthur regarded us with interest.

There were three other people at the table now. I didn’t know them. But I didn’t really care at the moment. I wanted to kiss the pulse wildly beating in Josh’s throat. I was vaguely aware that now might not be the right time for that. I glanced at his neck. It looked very kissable.

“Unless you have other plans?” Josh looked from Shannon to me.

I was looking at him as if I were about to eat him. It wasn’t intentional; that was really what I wanted to do at the moment...because he was so damn gorgeous…

He looked back at Shannon, his jaw muscle noticeably rigid.

“I recommend you get her home. And make her drink some water at some point, please,” Shannon added. “Here.” She handed Josh some keys and waved at me with a smile.

Then we were heading toward the door.

“Wait.” I stopped. We weren’t moving, but everything seemed to be moving around me. “You’re here with friends?”

His hands clasped my shoulders, steadying me. He smiled down at me. “Yes.”

“You shouldn’t leave them....I don’t want to mono...monopolize you.” My words trailed off as my eyes met his.

He wanted me. I could see it. His nostrils flared just a bit. His jaw clenched and unclenched. I smiled slowly. I liked that I could make him react this way.

I asked, “Don’t you want to stay?” Say no.

If he wanted to stay, I might be able to stop staring at him or thinking about how perfectly we fit together. It wasn’t completely out of the question, not yet. My eyes fell to his lips and my smile grew.

“No.” He leaned closer, whispering in my ear, “Claire, we have to leave now if you’re going to look at me like that.” His face reflected the hunger I felt.

My voice was husky as I whispered, “I’ll be good.” Not a chance.

He paused, his eyebrow rose in question. “You want to stay?”

“Nope.” My eyes fell to his mouth again.

Josh’s smile was pinched as he led me to the exit.

Blog Tour - Made the Grade: A Castle for Dragons by Julie Wetzel | Interview, Review, & Crimson Tree Mystery Box Giveaway

Today I'm turning my blog over to Julie Wetzel, who I interviewed about her novel "A Castle for Dragons," which is the The First Archive in The Dragons of Eternity Series!!

ALSO -- Be sure to check out Rafflecopter at the bottom of this post to be able to sign up for this blog stop's GIVEAWAY(s)!! [Blog Tour will run from August 24 - September 4, 2015]

My Q&A with Julie Wetzel :

Jess : Which of your characters would you most & least like to invite to dinner, from which book and why?

Julie : Of the characters from my books that I could invite to dinner, I would want to have dinner with Darien. Could you imagine all of the things he could tell you? What a wealth of knowledge he could be!

I think Rupert would be the harder one to have a meal with. He seems a little rough around the edges and probably wouldn’t be very good dinner company.

Jess : Please describe "A Castle for Dragons" in in one to two sentences.

Julie : A brave hero takes on a dragon to protect a village full of troublesome maidens, but nothing is exactly what it seems.

Jess : Which usually comes first for you, the character(s) story or the idea for the novel?

Julie : Hard question. Usually what I get first is a single scene playing out in my head. From there the characters grow into a storyline.

Jess : It's Patrick vs Patrick -- Is there any differences and/or similarities between Patrick from your "A Castle for Dragons" novel and Patrick from your "Granting Wishes" novel?

Julie : I’m surprised I haven’t had this question sooner. About the only similarities are their names and the fact that they are redheads. "A Castle for Dragons" was written well before "Granting Wishes" was. When I went to find a name for a leprechaun, Patrick was the most obvious choice. I didn’t even think of the fact that I had another main character that was named Patrick. They were never meant to be reflections of each other, so any other similarities are just coincidence.

Jess : Out of all of the secondary characters within "A Castle for Dragons," do you have one or two favorites so far? If so, who are they and can you tell us why?

Julie : My favorite secondary character has to be Nana. She’s the old lady that Daniel and Patrick find in the castle when they first arrive. We only see her a few times in the story but she is the one that points out that dragons are still known to the world. That no matter how they try to hid, someone will remember them. And crazy old ladies are just fun characters.

Jess : What is the most funny thing one of your characters, from "A Castle for Dragons," said or did?

Julie : There are a lot of cute moments in the book, but my favorite act is where Patrick runs across the tables in the main hall trying to catch Kathryn after a misunderstanding. I always laugh when I think of the Lord of the castle jumping up on the table during dinner and jumping across through the crowd.

Jess : What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?

Julie : I liked writing the first encounter between Patrick and the dragon. It’s that moment that Kathryn goes form thinking the new lord is a total show off and worthless, to truly worrying about him and thinking he might not be all that bad. Plus the fight between Patrick and the Dragon was fun to think through.

Jess : How many books have you written? Which is your favorite and why?

Julie : Well, when the second in the Dragons of Eternity series is released, I’ll have eight books in print. I’ve also written two short stories for anthologies and I have several fanfictions out there. I also have two books I’ve completed, but haven’t found the proper place to publish them yet. Their day will come, but I’ve got enough on my plate for now.

As to my favorite. That’s like asking a mother which of her children is her favorite. There are times she hates every one of them, but she loves them all. Right now my golden child is my current work in progress, "For the Heart of Dragons." Simply because I’m spending so much time with it and it hasn’t started to piss me off yet. I’m sure by the time I get to editing I will hate it and be on to another love.

Jess : Do you have any other projects in the works? If so, can you share a little of your current work with us?

Julie : Oh the file of unfinished work on my computer would amaze you! I have a lot of irons in the fire, but the one that I’m working on at the moment is "For the Heart of Dragons." It’s the third novel in the Dragons of Eternity series. And I guess I can share a snippet with you.

"For the Heart of Dragons" –

Noah stared at the heart in awe. It was beautiful, but he didn’t know if it would remain so. How long could a dragon survive in this form? He pondered this for a moment, but Raven’s dying words echoed through his brain pushing him to act. Unwilling to take the chance of losing the dragon and he squeezed the gem, slicing the diamond points deep into his palm. Rolling his hand over he let his blood seep out on the heart. The power of the dragon raced up his arm, slamming into his brain. A mighty roar shook his world.

Mine!” the dragon roared as it claimed its new home.

Noah fought for control over the beast, but the dragon’s rage gave it an unnatural strength. The desire to destroy everything that had hurt Raven coursed thought him. “No!” he cried out. Dropping the blood covered heart, he wrapped his arms around Raven’s body trying to hold onto himself, but the dragon was too strong. It ripped its way out of Noah’s body taking Noah for a ride. The leather collar around his neck forced the dragon into a size smaller then it was used to, but this size was more than enough to do what it wanted for the moment. Noah’s consciousness dropped away as the creature pounced on the body of the man that had killed Raven and started ripping it to shreds.

Jess : If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?

Julie : Well, my husband thinks it should be "Grievous Bodily Harm: The Misadventures of an Accidental Author." I kicked him for that one before agreeing that it was probably the best title anyone could come up with. I do tend to be slightly accident prone and it is true that I had never planned to be an author. So, it does kind of fit.

"A Castle for Dragons" [The Dragons of Eternity Series, The First Archive/Book 0.5] by Julie Wetzel

Author's Book Description : With a dragon ravaging the countryside, the Prince of Dragons sends out his best man, Patrick Mylan. His orders—to secure an abandoned castle and stop the foul beast from stealing more maidens. This shouldn’t be an issue for an Elite of Eternity

But there is more going on than there seems. When other dragons are sighted in the area, the town sends their maidens to their new lord for protection… and Patrick’s life becomes a lot more complicated. With the dragon he’s hunting acting odd and a castle filled with women distracting him, how is he supposed to do the job he was sent for? And what are the ladies going to do when they find out he’s the other dragon in the area?

This story is a historical fiction set in the world of Eternity.

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars, at the orders of his Prince (and adopted brother) Patrick, with is contingent of warriors, comes into town to take care of its rogue dragon problem and become their new Lord of the Castle. Things don’t go as smoothly as he would hope but with the towns “support” behind him, he’ll try his best to protect them with everything he has. Now if he can only find a way to let the town know that he and his men are the things they fear the most too... dragons.

With a “historical” feel, this is one fantasy romance that sets its readers up for an unexpected adventure based around fascinating characters! This wasn’t exactly what I expected but I don’t think I would have changed anything about it. One thing I especially enjoyed was reading about Patrick’s “dragon world” and how everything worked in it. Then when it came to Patrick and his relationship with Kathryn, I found their banter to be amusing while their growing relationship very gratifying! Kathryn definitely kept Patrick on his toes and it made watching her fall in love him all that much sweeter.

I cannot wait to see where this series will take us next. I recommend this novel to those looking for a unique dragon-shifter fantasy romance!

“So what do I do about her?” He was more than willing to give in, but it was convincing the girl that was turning into an issue.
“That, my friend, is the biggest mystery of all.” Daniel grinned. “Figure out the mind of a woman, and you could be the wealthiest man in the world.” ~ within Chapter 6

Book Excerpt :

“I am Patrick Mylan,” he restated. “I have been sent by the king to see to your dragon.”
This sent another murmur through the gathering crowd.
“I claim Dunham Castle as my payment.”
Silence flowed across the crowd.
Patrick went on. “She is in need of much repair. I will require a tithing from the town.”
A roar of objection went up.
After a moment, the crowd quieted enough for Patrick to continue. “In return for your support, I will rid you of your dragon and offer you the protection of a lord.”
Outrage swept through the villagers.
“How do you expect us to pay a tithing? The dragon has razed all of our crops and killed most of our men.” The sweet voice of the woman cut through the din.
Patrick turned back to her. “I understand that times are hard, and I have coin enough to pay for the supplies I need for now. The tithing I ask is for repairs to the castle after I’ve vanquished the dragon.” He looked around at the now-silent faces. “It’s no more than any lord would ask of his people.”
“We are not your people,” the woman snapped at him.
Oh yes, she was feisty, but so was he. Patrick smiled back at her. “Then I will leave you to your dragon, fair maiden.” Pulling on the reins of his horse, he turned back towards the castle.
“Wait.” Eustace held up his hand to stop Patrick from leaving. “Can you really slay this dragon?”
“My men and I are well versed in the ways of dragons.” Patrick bowed his head. “We can stop this beast.”
“And what happens when you fail?” the feisty woman yelled at his back.
Patrick turned in his saddle to look back at her. “Then you will be left with a fat dragon and be free of the tithing,” he sassed before turning his attention back to Eustace.

Disappointmentville: Texas Rodeo Barons Series, Book 5

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Paperback - Pages: 224; Kindle Edition - File Size: 362 KB | Expected Release Date: October 7, 2014 | Publisher: Harlequin : American Romance | Obtained: NetGalley

"The Texan's Surprise Son" [Texas Rodeo Barons Series, Book 5] by Cathy McDavid

Author's Book Description : Taken By Surprise

Jacob Baron is shocked to discover he's a father. But he's determined to do right by his son, despite the lack of strong role models in his own life. Jacob's a bull rider, and there's no halfway with him. He'll be the kind of dad his son needs...even if Cody's attractive aunt, Mariana Snow, seems to question his daddy skills at every turn.

Jacob cooks, cleans and has a nice touch with a two-year-old. He also has broad shoulders, gorgeous eyes and a mouth that can only be described as sexy. But Mariana's own part-time, no-good father was a rodeo star. She knows their charms can't be trusted. She's hanging around for Cody's sake, that's all. At least, that's what she keeps telling herself....

My Book Review : 2.5 out of 5 stars, a cowboy from a big family--who never thought he really fit in--gets the promotion of his dreams if only he can earn the championship title at the National Finals Rodeo, but months before the Finals his world gets thrown for a loop by a mesmerizing woman who informs him that her nephew is his son...

I really liked the storyline/plot for this novel. Because I feel the same way (though not for the same reasons), I liked that Mariana searched out Jacob to let him know about Cody, and I liked how the three of them built a relationship with each other. All together, they make a cute family.

Nevertheless, even though I liked the plot, it was hard to like Mariana and her mother at times. I understand that because of their past experiences it hard for them to trust men but the accusations they both gave and the level of trust Mariana wouldn't give was hard to read through at times.

However, even though this was the first novel I read from this series, it did make me interested in reading about the rest of the Baron clan. I'm also now interested to see where this series will go next.

Therefore, I do recommend this novel and series to anyone who likes contemporary romances about cowboys, and to those who are willing to keep an open mind by not letting Mariana's nuances annoy you as they did me.

Book Teaser(s) :
Before she quite realized what was happening, Jacob gave her cheek a peck. "For luck."
Her whole face instantly warmed. After that, he and Daniel sauntered off as if their entire worlds hadn't just tilted on their axis. Mariana's certainly had.
She watched Jacob's form grow smaller until he disappeared behind a metal building, the warmth spread until it reached all the way to her fingertips and toes.
"Cody, your aunt Mariana might be in a bit of trouble."
"Bye-bye."
"Yeah, bye-bye good sense." ~ within Chapter 6

Disappointmentville: Gypsy Lovers Series, Book 3

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 128 KB | Release Date: June 14, 2012 | Publisher: Breathless Press | Obtained: Amazon.com

"The Gypsy and the Widow" [Gypsy Lovers Series, Book 3] by Juliet Chastain

My Book Summary : Now that Joanna's husband has died her life has been turned upside down, because of how he gambled all of their savings and property away. However, her husband's friend, Sir Edward, is "kind" enough to help her out with his servant to assist her on a daily basis and has recently announced his willingness to marry her once the time is right.

Yet even though Sir Edward's proposal would help Joanna with any financial troubles and give Joanna's son a father figure for him to look up too, Joanna's heart and wants belong to someone else--Tem--a handsome gypsy who seems to be a kinder man then she had ever met before. The problem for both of them is that neither of their wants (they'd like to be together) coexist with the beliefs they've grown up with. Can they overcome a lot of prejudices about each other's "people" so they can get what they both really want? Or will Sir Edward, Tem's Gypsy clan, and the beliefs they've grown up to believe get in the way of it all?

My Book Review : 2.5 out of 5 stars. Two people from opposite worlds find a way to make things work out between them during unusual circumstances.

I had such high hopes for this novella ever since I did a promo for it earlier this year. However, even though I knew it was a short story before I even started it, it rushed through everything so quickly that it was hard to thoroughly enjoy the chemistry between Tem & Joanna as much as I would have liked. Plus, the ending wrapped up everything very unrealistically for me to enjoy it.

I wish I could recommend this novella to you but I can't. So, I'll only recommend it if you are a fan of Ms. Chastain and/or this series.

Author's Novel Extras : Book Excerpt

Book Teaser(s) :
There is no need to dress with such care just to cross the meadow to the field. He will be busy—working like the others. Against her will, she remembered how he had smiled at her yesterday. How somehow he had reminded her that she was a woman with the desires of her sex.
All she sought today were playmates for Nash, she told herself firmly. And besides, there was no harm in seeking the comfort of another person who had been widowed, but she knew that wasn’t true. She needed no comfort for the loss of her husband. What she wanted, wrong or right, was to have a few moments with him, Tem Lovell.
She shook her head. I must not think of Tem Lovell. I shall marry Sir Edward who has always been so considerate of myself. He neither drinks nor gambles and I will have no worries. For a moment she remembered her anger when he had shouted at the Gypsy children and called them foul names. He was but thinking of my well-being; it was perhaps neither appropriate to allow them inside, nor to play that way with them. She smiled. In truth she had like playing with them. She had liked their infectious laughter. She had liked the way they included Nash in their games. She had like the way they tried to speak English to her, even the smallest among them, little Eleanor.
And I liked the way Tem swung the children in the air and laughed with them. But no, she must not think like this. I must not think of Tem. And I must not think of him as Tem; he is Mr. Lovell to me.
She would stay out there while Nash played. That way she would know he was safe. And, perhaps Tem will speak with me—
“No! I will not think like that, I must not,” she said aloud. ~ within Chapter 2

Blog Tour - Feasted On: Accidentally Married on Purpose by Rachel Harris | Interview, Review, & Novels/Gift Card Giveaway

Today I'm turning my blog over to Rachel Harris, who I interviewed about her novel "Accidentally Married on Purpose," which is the 3rd book in her Love & Games Series!!

ALSO -- Be sure to check out Rafflecopter at the bottom of this post to be able to sign up for this blog stop's GIVEAWAY(s)!! [Blog Tour will run from July 14 - 25, 2014]

My Q&A with Rachel Harris :

Jess : Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Rachel : I’m an author/homeschool mama who gets through each day with Diet Mountain Dew and laughing at myself. Also, I spend a good portion of my day making up random songs like my Ode to a Blueberry Muffin..., which sort of goes back to the laughing at myself part of my story :)

I’m blessed to call myself an author and I have the most incredible support team behind me—my husband is my rock, my parents live next door and offer plenty of babysitting, my street team is the most incredible group of people I’ve ever met, and I’ve befriended the most talented authors I’m grateful to now call friends.

Since I like all the things, I write YA, NA, and Adult fun and flirty romance about sassy girls-next-door and the hot guys that make them swoon. Reading is my addiction, chocolate is right up there, and I adore talking with readers :)

Jess : Please describe your heroine, from "Accidentally Married on Purpose," in one to two sentences.

Rachel : Sherry Robicheaux is a wild child who is addicted to love, romance novels, and fairy tales, yet she’s given up on the HEA when it comes to her own love life. Determined to have one last fling before finding the solution to her heartache—a Mr. Boring and Dependable—she sets off to land herself a roadie...only to wake up hitched to a world famous country artist (oops).

Jess : Which of your characters would you most & least like to invite to dinner, from which book and why?

Rachel : I’d most like to invite Sherry over for dinner because she’s cracked me up since the first book in the series ("Taste the Heat") and kept me giggling in book two ("Seven Day Fiance"). I knew that once she got her turn it’d be a crazy ride. And I was right. What I love most about her, though, is her huge heart, and I think we’d get along great.

Least like to invite to dinner? I’d have to go with the annoying reporter Tammy Paxton who makes life a little complicated for Tyler in "Accidentally Married on Purpose." Though, without her interference, who knows what would’ve happened. Besides, I kind of think she made have some redeeming qualities. (Yup. I’m totally considering making her a future heroine!)

Jess : Is there any differences and/or similarities between Cane from your "Seven Day Fiance" novel and Tyler from your "Accidentally Married on Purpose" novel?

Rachel : The similarities are that they are both musicians, they both come from strong southern families, and they know how to treat a woman. As for differences, I think Tyler’s humor is more self-effacing and fun-loving, whereas Cane is a bit more sarcastic, and where Cane is all tatted-up muscles, Tyler is more tall and lanky. But they both stole my heart while writing. :)

Jess : What sparked the idea for "Accidentally Married on Purpose?"

Rachel : I wrote the synopsis for this book before I’d even written book one, so it was always in the back of my mind. I knew Sherry was the adventurous, put your heart out there, type of girl, and I wanted her to have a story that celebrated that. Also, this series is set in New Orleans, and my goal was always to showcase the unique awesomeness of my hometown. Mardi Gras and the music scene was definitely something I wanted to acknowledge, so what better way to do that than to combine them? Once I had those two elements in mind, the plot pretty much wrote itself, and I was a happy, giggling participant.

Jess : Out of all of the secondary characters within "Accidentally Married on Purpose," do you have one or two favorites so far? If so, who are they and can you tell us why?

Rachel : Definitely Charlie. He’s the number one person who comes up from readers and I’m happy to say that I plan to make him the hero in the first book of the spin-off series! I also really enjoyed writing the publicist, Arianne. Funny thing is, a girl on my street team won the chance to become a walk on character in my next book, and that was Arianne Cruz. While writing the book, I had so much fun with her that I told Arianne she might just become a future heroine, too! She’s pretty excited, as am I :)

Jess : How many books have you written? Which is your favorite and why?

Rachel : I have written three adult romances and four completed YA novels—I’m about halfway finished my fifth. Whichever book I just wrote is always the one I love the most. I’m still attached to the characters, in their worlds, so it probably comes as no shock that my two favorites are the ones releasing this year: "Accidentally Married on Purpose" (Adult) and "The Fine Art of Pretending" (Young Adult). But honestly? I think that is because the main characters, Sherry and Aly, are both the most like me.

In "Accidentally Married on Purpose," I got to live out my celebrity fantasy (uh, I may or may not have written NKOTB fan fic when I was a kid...), and I threw in my love affair with romance novels. I’m not lying when I said I pretty much smiled the entire time I wrote this book. And in "The Fine Art of Pretending," it was the same thing. The premise is based on a conversation I actually had in high school with my guy friends, and while Aly definitely became her own person, she is based a lot on my own experiences. Only I let my goober side fly a little more freely with her than I did in high school, I let her make some huge mistakes that I’d have rather avoided personally, and she can sing beautifully, whereas I can’t carry a tune in a bucket. :)

Jess : Do you have any other projects in the works? If so, can you share a little of your current work with us?

Rachel : Right now, I’m working on the second book in my new YA series that begins with "The Fine Art of Pretending," which releases this September. It involves rodeo this time, and I’m having a lot of fun with it. After that is my New Adult debut and I’m so excited to jump in to this story!! Then it’s back to another adult contemporary romance :)

Jess : Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover? Any specific reason why?

Rachel : I love seeing my paperbacks on the shelf, but to read, I honestly prefer ebooks. When I travel, I can bring so many more with me, and since I do the majority of my reading at night, it is a lot easier to read on my iPad and then crash rather than having to get up and turn off the light. But that is just pure laziness talking lol

Jess : If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?

Rachel : "Mama Brain"

Jess : What cartoon character best represents your personal philosophy?

Rachel : I think I’m a mix of Belle from Beauty and the Beast (books and her love of family) and Winnie the Pooh (silly, loves his friends, and a bit forgetful at times *grin*)

Jess : List 3 books you just recently read and would recommend?

Rachel : Susan Mallery’s "Only His," "Full Measures" by Rebecca Yarros, and "All Lined Up" by Cora Carmack

"Accidentally Married on Purpose" [Love & Games Series, Book 3] by Rachel Harris

Author's Book Description : One ring plus one wild night equals one crazy love

Sherry Robicheaux loves men. She loves love. And she loves an adventure. So when she meets a mysterious man while working backstage at a country music concert in Vegas, she’s all about what’s happened in Vegas staying there.

Country music superstar Tyler Blue just wants a weekend of anonymity...though there’s something about the spunky waitress with the streaks of purple hair that tempts him like no other. Until the next morning, when they both wake up with fuzzy memories…and rings on their fingers.

Convincing Sherry to maintain the ruse for his public image isn’t the hardest part—it’s reminding himself that their time spent playing husband and wife in her small town of Magnolia Springs can’t last. Tyler’s first love will always be music—and the road is no place for a sweet downhome girl.

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! Infatuation is the name of the game. Since I am infatuated with this novel, while in it you read about how much Tyler and Sherry are infatuated with each other. They like each other so much that they "help each other" during their month together, in doing so they gain mutual respect for each other and an unyielding friendship. Yet, once their month is over everything is thrown into question, will they follow their desires or stick with their original plans?

I appreciated that this novel has a heroine who yearns for her own HEA. So much so, in fact, that she asks and is willing to have Tyler play it up for her during their month so she'll get to enjoy at least one HEA in her lifetime even if it's fake. It was sweet, especially because Tyler isn't the romantic type, yet was still willing to do it for her.

They make a fun sweet pairing that I was happy to read about. In addition, it was nice that even though this novel is a part of a series, it still is stand-alone enough that you don't feel left out or slowed down by the back-story. Yet, there was some info that was a bit unnecessary to have included, as it was never fleshed out more. But oh wells.

Overall, I recommend this novel to this who enjoys comedic contemporary romances!

Sherry spit the foaming toothpaste into the basin and rinsed her brush. Her eyes kept straying to the row of notes stuck on the mirror. For some reason, she hadn’t removed that first one, and when she awoke the next morning to its twin, she’d decided to leave them both. Now there were three. None of his short messages overstepped any boundaries; they were simple but flirtatious. And adorable as hell. ~ within Chapter 11

Book Excerpt :

Waking up face-first on the bathroom floor may not be cause for alarm for everyone, but for Sherry, it ranked right up there. Especially since she knew the second her eyes cracked open that it wasn’t her bathroom.
Fuzzy-edged memories pranced around her brain, just out of reach, as she hooked a hand on the toilet seat and pushed to a sitting position.
The world tilted.
As her stomach heaved, she dove for the porcelain throne, but nothing came up. Nothing other than slightly sharper memories. Ones that told of dancing, magical fountains, way too much alcohol, and some very, very sexy time between the sheets. The images pulsed like an old movie, blanking out too much for her liking, but a flush heated her skin at what she could recall.
Hot damn. She’d been right. A night with a roadie like Tyler would definitely keep her fantasies occupied for years to come. Shame she couldn’t remember more.
Resting her head on the cool surface, she surveyed the fancy digs with half-lidded eyes. It was a hell of a room, particularly on a roadie’s budget. Further proof that either Tyler was in tight with his boss, or Blue wasn’t nearly the egotist she’d pegged him to be. Too bad she hadn’t had a chance to meet him the other night.
“Tyler?” she called out again, wincing at the roughness of her voice. She sounded like an old lady who smoked a bazillion packs a day. Lovely. Grabbing hold of either side of the toilet, she wobbled first to her knees, and then her feet. The mirror was just a few feet away. Time to inspect the damage.
Eyes half closed, she fumbled forward and latched onto the counter to steady herself. Hangovers really didn’t suit her. She turned on the faucet, and as she waited for the plastic cup to fill with water, Sherry raised her eyes to her reflection.
“What the freaking hell?!?”
She was wearing a wedding veil.
A wedding veil was on her head. It was white. It had lace. And it was on her freaking head.
She didn’t have a single stitch of clothing on her body otherwise, but she did have that. “Hubba, hubba, wubba...what?”
She blinked hard, repeatedly, thinking her reflection would change. It didn’t. Cold water ran over her hand, and it didn’t wake her from the bizarre dream. The door behind her started to creak open, and Sherry jumped, snatching a towel off the floor.
When she saw a huge honking diamond on her finger, she ditched the towel and screamed instead.

"Stolen Kiss From a Prince" by Teresa Carpenter

Author's Book Description : When royal duty calls...

Charged with the care of the newly orphaned heir to the Kardana throne, nanny Katrina Vicente finds herself faced with an even more formidable task—working alongside the boy's uncle, the devastatingly handsome Prince Julian, the prince regent.

Desperate to keep the secrets of her past under lock and key, getting involved with a prince is the last thing Katrina needs, particularly with the world watching. But it's hard to ignore their instant chemistry—especially after one stolen kiss! Could her royal assignment be about to transform into the most magical of fairy tales?

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars. This sweet romance brings together two people who are at the low points of their lives who turn to each other when it looks like no one else would understand/help them. In doing so it turns both of their worlds upside down. Together Julian & Katrina are a intriguing pair that you can't help but root for .... even through Julian's blunders.

My only wish was that the ending was a bit better and had an epilogue.

Overall, I recommend the novel to those who like soft sweet heartwarming contemporary romances!

Made the Grade: The Duke of Snow and Apples by Elizabeth Vail

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Kindle Edition - File Size: 1433 KB | Expected Release Date: August 26, 2014 | Publisher: Entangled Publishing : Select | Obtained: NetGalley

"The Duke of Snow and Apples" by Elizabeth Vail

Author's Book Description : Frederick Snow, first footman, is the perfect servant: efficient, hardworking, and completely bereft of emotion. Unbeknownst to his employers, he’s the lost Duke of Snowmont, on the run from a suspicious stepfather and a powerful magic he can only control by burying his passions beneath his frosty demeanor. He’s managed to hide behind his carefully ordered life until an impertinent miss arrives and challenges everything he thought he wanted.

If Charlotte Erlwood wants to land a wealthy, titled husband at her great aunt’s house party, she has to stop losing her temper – especially with inordinately handsome footmen. Perhaps if she recruits Frederick for her matrimonial schemes, she’ll be able to direct her attention toward suitable single noblemen and away from inappropriate dalliances. But Frederick’s frigid control is no match for Charlotte’s irrepressible spirit, and her passionate kiss could summon the darker side of his magic...or wake his heart from its frozen sleep.

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars, a darker version of the Snow White fairytale with unique twists! Set in a historical feyish world, this dynamic novel gets you hooked from the beginning with its intriguing plot and entertaining characters.

I truly liked the idea of how the roles in this novel were switched from the original story, making Frederick to be "Snow White" and Charlotte to be "the Prince." Yet, even though that is what it seems they both end up saving each other while turning each other’s worlds’ upside-down in the process. Together they prove that you can fall in love no matter what the circumstances, as what is inside you matters more then anything else.

In addition to the main characters, I liked Charlotte's Aunt Hildy and the other "Dowagers/Diamonds." They keep up the humor throughout this novel while giving you different glimpses as to what the rest of society is like for where they live.

The only reason I didn't give this novel a higher rating was because of how much Charlotte and Frederick annoyed me at times with the refusal of their feelings. Also, because of how Frederick seemed to be a bit oblivious as to everyone around him (a little too much in my opinion) when all the pieces of "his mystery" were finally adding up. I guess I just wish it wasn't as dragged out as it was.

Nevertheless, I did enjoy this novel and hope there will be a sequel or another book to turn this into a series!

I recommend this novel to anyone who likes reading twists on fairytales and/or fantasy romances!

Book Teaser(s) :
An overpowering urge to laugh rose from his belly, the kind of wild, uninhibited laughter that clenched the body like a fist to wring as much mirth as possible from every pore. He hadn’t laughed that way in such a long time he had a sudden fear he might forget how and end up howling or screaming instead, so when the laughter seized his throat he spat it out as words.
“I’m sorry I kissed you,” he said. Vivid hues bloomed in the air between them, rich, varied shades of longing, most of them his.
Charlotte cocked her head to one side. Her lips bowed into a slow, lopsided smile. “Liar.”
“God help me.” He chuckled weakly. “I’m not very good at being a rapacious footman.”
“True. But I can always use a friend. So could you, it seems.” ~ within Chapter 11
“I see you’ve met Quicksilver,” she said. The mare in question whickered as the lady approached. “Isn’t she fine? When I heard you were coming to hunt today, I knew I couldn’t allow you to ride any other. Smart as a whip, but patient as well, if you’re not sure of your seat. Don’t just stand there gawking, Freddy—mount my grandniece!” She turned to examine her harness, only to be distracted by frantic coughing sounds. “My word, Freddy, whatever is the matter?”
“Nothing,” Frederick wheezed. Charlotte, however, thought she heard, “just swallowed my tongue, is all,” muttered under his breath. She stifled a laugh into the back of her glove. ~ within Chapter 12

What was I thinking?: Barboza Brothers Series, Book 1

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 403 KB | Release Date: November 8, 2012 | Publisher: Sugar Shack Press | Obtained: Smashwords

"Fresh Temptation" [Barboza Brothers Series, Book 1] by Reeni Austin

What was I thinking? : Well, I liked the cover--thought it was cute. And the author's description made it sound like it would be a keeper ... I just wished it was since it wasn't for me.

Author's Book Description : Victor Barboza is a man who has everything but a good woman.

Cara Green has a young son, three part-time jobs, and a few extra pounds.

Their worlds collide as Cara serves Victor at an upscale party in Manhattan, upsetting Victor's ex-fiancee, Alexis, in the process.

Victor pursues Cara, but Cara is not sure of his intentions: Is he using her to make Alexis jealous? Does he just want her for sex? Or is love Victor's true aim?

My Book Review : 1.5 out of 5 stars, this is a novel about finding love in unusual places. I liked the meaning that underlines the plot of this story. I also really liked Victor, or as little, Isaac called him "Big Toe" or "Bictow!"

However, even though I understand why Cara was so paranoid when it came to Victor coming into her life and getting close to Isaac, I didn't like how stubborn, rude, and willing give up on what was important in her life without putting up a fight so easily. It made me thoroughly annoyed with her throughout 90% of this novel.

Plus, I hated Alexis then even more so when everything just turned out fine at the very end with her. Gah! I wish she got mad about what was done to her instead of being so accepting. Which I know makes me seem like I'm being mean, but come ON that girl deserved something bad happening to her.

Then to top it off towards the end of the novel it seemed to go from one scene to start right up within the middle of the next scene, which left me a bit confused about how the hell that happened.

Overall, I just wished it was better. So, I don't recommend it. Yet on Amazon.com there are 27--or more by now--reviews with 4/5 stars and on Smashwords a majority of the reviews have 4/5 too, so who knows you might be like the majority and like it better than I did. *shrug*

Book Teaser(s) :
Gary chuckled. “Believe me, rumors were flying when he hired me, too.”
“You mean, people thought...you and him?”
“Yes.” He nodded. “Yes, they did. And it didn’t help that I made the mistake of telling someone how hot I thought he was.”
Cara laughed out loud. “Oh no.”
“Yes.” Gary let out an exasperated sigh. “I won’t make that mistake again. The rumors were already going but I sure didn’t help. That’s when I found out how much Mr. Barboza likes to stay out of the office gossip. He doesn’t care what people say until it affects him somehow, and one of the other partners mentioned it to him. That’s when he sat me down and told me he didn’t have time for drama and he expected me to keep everything private in this office.”
“He actually approached you about it?”
“Yes. But the odd thing is, he thought it was kind of funny that anyone thought he and I were an item.” He chuckled for a few moments then cleared his
throat. ~ within Chapter 8
