"Mia and the Bad Boy" [Backstage Pass Series, Book 2] by Lisa Burstein

Authors' Book Description : This good girl’s about to meet her match…

Ryder Brooks is living the dream—he’s famous, loved by millions of girls, and miserable. All he really wants is to write his own music, not Seconds to Juliet’s sugary sweet pop. In order to do that, though, the “bad boy” of the band will have to play by the rules. And that includes behaving with his new—and super cute—über-good-girl tutor.

Mia Reyes is in fangirl heaven. Tutoring her favorite member of her favorite band? It’s a dream come true…until it turns into a complete nightmare. Ryder is nothing like she thought. He’s crude, arrogant, and pretty much a total jerk. And the worst part? She’s roped into pretending to be his girlfriend so that no one finds out he’s being tutored. Fake kisses, plenty of PDA, and even sharing his hotel room…

But sometimes even the baddest of bad boys needs a little redemption.

My Book Review : 5 out of 5 stars!! When Mia gets the chance of a lifetime to associate with her all-time crush--Ryder--for a month, she leaps at the opportunity. However, as soon as she arrives all her hopes of it being a "fun" experience disappears in the wake Ryder's personality. Yet, as their "relationship" progresses they find that they have more in common than they thought. Though will their differences be too much for them to overcome or will they be able to work through whatever comes their way?

This was one sweet novel that pleasantly surprised me!! I was prepared for a good girl/bad boy singer romance but what surprised me was how these two seemly different people find common ground. Their common ground being how they are both being pushed into lives/careers that don’t make them happy. In addition, with this novel being a "teenage drama" about a bad boy singer I appreciated how tame it was. What I mean is that Ryder doesn't try to turn Mia into someone she wasn't while he also tries to be a decent man for her compared to what his reputation leads everyone to believe.

Together they are a powerful duo who seem to help each other turn into who they want and are meant to be. I thoroughly enjoyed Ryder and Mia's banter; it livens up every scene and is very entertaining. Also, I enjoyed reading about Mia's personal struggle between being the "good girl" she has always been forced to be, because of her mother's domineering ways, to being the girl she wants to be by seeing her come out of her shell and becoming more free in her personal rules while being less prudish. Overall, I loved this novel and cannot wait to see where this series will lead us next!

I recommend this novel to anyone looking for a fun YA singer romance!

"Strings" [Among the Mythos Series, Book 3] by Ruthanne Reid

Author's Book Description : Need help? You probably shouldn’t ask Grey.

He’s a runaway Fey prince in New York City. He feeds on love like some kind of vampire. He really doesn’t like people.

Then a monster hunts him down in late-night Manhattan, ruins his vacation, and forces him into the fight of his life.

He’s marked, and monsters are coming for him. Grey had no plans to be a hero, but that doesn’t matter. Sometimes, no matter what you do, you aren’t the one pulling the strings.

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! Three months after “The Christmas Dragon,” book 2 in this series, we now follow John Grey, who’s an Unseelie Fey Prince, while he sates his needs in Manhattan. However, at the end of one of his “sets” Grey finds himself hunted by something to be thought of as a myth with only the “help” of humans to save him. Will his “help” be enough?

This interesting look into Grey, really sets the tone for the series and makes me wonder as to where all of these “personal stories” will lead. It was a touching tale of a “guy” realizing there was more to life then what he knew and wishing to be a better “person” because of it. I liked Grey. I hope to see/read more of him (and Katie).

I definitely recommend this novella and series to those who read paranormal and fantasy books.

"The Christmas Dragon" [Among the Mythos Series, Book 2] by Ruthanne Reid

Author's Book Description : All Katie Lin wants is to get away from her family: from the magic, from the mayhem, and from the never-ending war.

Unfortunately, someone has other ideas, and sends her a box. A box that jumps.

The tiny fire hazard inside may just force her back to Wales – and right into the path of a dragon war, the Crow King, and at least one reluctant elf prince. Sometimes, running away just doesn’t work as planned.

My Book Review : 4.5 out of 5 stars!! Katie--a descendant of "Merlin"--just wants a normal life. However, the "normal" life she carved out for herself will never be the same when her "Uncle Merlin" leaves a mystical white baby dragon on her front porch. After that, all bets are off...

WOW!! I loved Katie and her quirky ways. This intense novella hooks you and keeps you asking for more! I hope Katie will play a "main" role in this series as she is very entertaining and I'd love to see who she would choose if she got into a lasting relationship. I can't wait to see where this series will take us next. Oh, by the way, can I have a baby dragon too?

I highly recommend this novella and series to those who read paranormal and fantasy books.

Mother-of-pearl scales gleamed all over its ridiculously long, thin neck. The wee round-bellied body rested on tiny curved legs and a tail long enough to balance that neck. Its head was a drawn-out diamond, long and narrow, and its snout was so thin that the flare of its nostrils only emphasized the entire disproportionate cuteness of the whole package.
I’d never seen anything so adorable in my life.
Without warning, he chirped at me and jumped off the counter.
I caught him just before he hit the floor. He felt fragile like a frog — warm and soft with loose, smooth skin over teeny tiny bones. I stroked his sides and his tiny little legs, winced at the sharpness of his adorable little claws, and discovered an outline of wings still hidden under the skin of his ridged back.

He threw his hands in the air. “You’re mad. Completely, utterly, batshitterly mad.”
“Batshitterly?” Well, that did it. Here we were, entangled in literal draconian conspiracies, and now Grey was making up words. I started to giggle.
“This isn’t funny!” Grey stared up at me from the floor.
“It’s laugh or cry, right?” I couldn’t stop giggling. Batshitterly was going on my vocabulary list.
“Or rage and rant. I prefer ranting,” said Grey.
“Well, I prefer laughing. So! Are we going, or not? Come on. It’s like you’ve never been on an adventure before.” ~ within Chapter 2 - titled 'The Starling'

Book Excerpt :

The Duke and Duchess are having a rocky start to their marriage, also to their day…

“Your tea, Duchess.”

Noah had woken up beside his wife—again, despite all plans to the contrary—creating another first for him. Thea had risen several times during the night to tend to herself. He hadn’t realized that monthly courses caused a woman’s rest to be interrupted.

Crashingly bad planning, for a lady’s sleep to be disturbed when she most needed rest.

“You’re not about to steal my tea?” Thea held out the cup, her gaze shy as she sat propped against the headboard.

“Where’s the fun in stealing what’s freely offered?” Noah settled in beside her and filched a bite of her cinnamon toast. “Would you rather have chocolate this morning?”

“Because?”

“You’re”— Noah waved a hand in the direction of her middle—“indisposed.”

“I am not indisposed.” Thea set her teacup down with a little clink. “The discomfort has passed, as it always does. You needn’t be concerned.”

“I am not concerned, Thea.” Not greatly concerned, now that she’d stopped ordering him to go away and was ready for a proper spat. “I am attempting in my bumbling way to dote. You will allow it.”

Drat. He’d given another order.

“You couldn’t bumble if one gave you written instructions, Anselm,” Thea said, looking a little less peaked for having run up her flags. “That was my toast you appropriated.”

“Appropriation is what happens when one’s wife can’t appreciate a little doting. You’re being stingy with the tea, just as you were stingy with the covers. How long does this indisposition last?”

Her chin came up. “I am the Duchess of Anselm. I am not stingy with anything, but you are a very presuming husband.”

“Doting.” Noah took Thea’s free hand to kiss her knuckles— lest she mistake his point. “Also in need of my duchess’s guidance on this one marital matter.”

“This is so personal.” Thea’s gaze was on their joined hands— for Noah would not have her haring off in a fit of mortification. “I didn’t think you’d be a personal sort of husband. You were supposed to appear in my dressing-room doorway a few nights a month, silently take a few marital liberties, and then leave me in peace. We’d trade sections of the Times over breakfast the next morning.”

“Prosaic.” Boring and exactly what Noah himself had envisioned. “Hard to see any doting going on, though.”

“Husband?” Thea’s tone was hesitant. “Thank you, for keeping me company last night. I would not have known how to ask.”

“I suppose that’s the definition of doting.” Noah lingered at the cart to assemble a plate. “It’s the little things you can’t bring yourself to ask for, that an attentive spouse will enjoy providing to you. Bacon or ham?”

“A little of both, please.”

“Feeling carnivorous?”

“I’m a trifle indisposed. I need the sustenance.”

Noah piled both ham and bacon on Thea’s plate, and stole better than half of it, because he needed the sustenance too.

"The Duke's Disaster" [True Gentlemen Series, Book 0.5] by Grace Burrowes

What was I thinking? : I am a fan of Ms. Burrowes, liked the book description of this novel, and hoped I'd be a fan of this novel too, but that didn't happen.

Author's Book Description : Noah Winters, Duke of Anselm, exercises the pragmatism for which he’s infamous when his preferred choice of bride cries off, and her companion, Lady Thea Collins, becomes his next choice for his duchess. Lady Thea’s mature, sensible and even rather attractive—what could possibly go wrong?

My Book Review : 1 out of 5 stars. I don't believe Noah is an awful human being as she states but I agree with the rest of Angie's review. I gave up reading at 37% because I couldn't handle Noah & Thea talking around each other but not to each other. It was aggravating.
