Feasted On: The Vampire King Series, Book 1

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 1089 KB | Release Date: December 2, 2012 | Publisher: Secret Cravings Publishing | Obtained: Kenya Wright

"Escape" [The Vampire King Series, Book 1] by Kenya Wright

My Book Summary : Brie is a Domina, which is a human woman with special blood that can also give birth to vampire children (some of those children can turn out to be very powerful). However, even though so volunteered to be a Domina to The Quiet King (a vampire king who is ruthless, blind, deaf, and very spiteful) so her family and village would survive; after two years of living in the castle and seeing vampire "prince" babies being unmercifully slaughtered she's decides to escape back to her home to be with her daughters and husband again.

Therefore, to escape, she enlists the help of Samuel a Pathfinder (someone who assists others to escape the King's kingdom) and a full powerful vampire with secrets of his own. However, Samuel doesn't agree with helping Dominas escape for personal reasons so Brie is forced to lie to him when they first meet and hope that her secret won't be found out.

Soon they find that there is an instant bond and attract between them that gets stronger with every touch they share. It leaves Brie second-guessing her commitment to the husband that let her go and her heart. Will she be willing to leave Samuel's side when the time comes? Can she go back to a life that has probably moved on without her? Will she be able to make it on her own now that she's escaped the King and he will be out hunting for her soon?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars, this dynamic novella keeps you on your toes with its captivating writing and intense scenes! I was not expecting to like this novel as much as I did! Also, I am soo pleasantly surprised with the growth that Brie & Samuel go through throughout this story. Right now, this story isn't about a love match, it's about a woman wanting to get herself out of a bad situation and back home to the ones she chose to leave, and in the process finding a man (vampire) who sparks something inside of her that takes hold and doesn't let go. I was intrigued with the passion between Brie & Samuel as well as how they come to learn to trust and like each other throughout this story.

In addition, I will admit that I am more of a fan of reading from both of the main characters POVs. So, when this novella was (and is) mostly from Brie's perspective I was a little disappointed, that is until I got to the very end of it and read the epilogue, which is from Samuel's perspective! It was nice to read because it let you know that they were both on the same page, i.e. they both were excited and scared about this growing attraction between them and not sure what to do about it, which made me like this novella that much more!!

I recommend this novella to anyone who enjoys paranormal vampire romance, especially in unique settings!

Book Teaser(s) :
The door opened. Light seeped in from the hallway. Samuel stumbled in, closed the door, and ambled to the other side of the bed. He collapsed behind me, making the mattress bounce a little. My body tensed. I kept my back to him.
“I’m sorry,” he said. “I shouldn’t have come in the shower. Ambi knows I shouldn’t even be lying in this bed next to you.”
Not knowing how to respond, I remained stiff, pretending to be asleep.
“I know you’re awake. I hear your heart beating fast,” he warned. “And I know how it sounds when you’re asleep. I listened to it the whole time I carried you in the sewer.”
I gritted my teeth. “Fine. I’m awake.”
“Do you mind me sleeping in bed with you?”
“I don’t mind as long as you don’t touch me.”
His laughter filled the space. “A vampire lies next to you and all you’re worried about is him touching you?”
“I’m used to sleeping with a vampire,” I confessed. “Once a month, The Quiet King slept in my bed to help me adjust to him.”
“He never touched you, right?” Samuel’s voice came out in a low growl. ~ within Chapter 6

Made the Grade: The Jorda Series, Book 1

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Kindle Edition - File Size: 509 KB | Expected Release Date: August 1, 2014 | Publisher: Harlequin : Escape Publishing | Obtained: NetGalley/Escape Publishing

"Loving The Prince" [The Jorda Series, Book 1] by Nicole Murphy (aka Elizabeth Dunk)

Author's Book Description : Cassandra Wiltmore is the heir to the throne of Rica, but it’s unlikely she’ll be stepping up any time soon. So she spends her days managing and building the Rican Balcite Mining Company. The company has made her family wealthy beyond imagination, but that kind of power needs careful control, and Cassandra is just the Wiltmore to control it.

When a new bid for the mining license is announced, Cassandra is determined to squash it. Then the thefts and threats begin, and every step she takes seems to be wrong. Taking on a new protector seems like an indulgence Cass can’t afford, but she equally cannot afford to be caught off-guard. If only the best man for the job wasn’t also the best-looking man she’s ever seen.

Kernan Radaton has ambition, and as protector to Cassandra Wiltmore, he’s well placed to reach all his long-held goals. If only his new all-business boss didn’t make him think of only pleasure. With the company, the heir and the family under attack, the last thing anyone needs is a distraction. But once everything is safe again, Kernan is developing new ambitions — ones that involve a lot of very personal time spent getting to know his boss on a very personal level.

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars! A woman finds a man who might be her perfect match if only threats, relatives, and obsessed "fans" don't get in their way.

This intense dynamic novel keeps readers on their toes as they follow Cassie & Kernan's search as to who could be planning to hurt her company while watching them fall in love at the same time. I enjoyed its plot, especially when it came to the mystery of who was trying to take down Cassie's company. In addition, I liked how Kernan & Cassie's relationship was pretty much instantaneous and how they dealt with it. Basically, the last six chapters of this novel were my favorite because I loved how everything gets wrapped up!!

I recommend this novel to those who like sci-fi suspenseful romances!

Blog Tour - Made the Grade: Captivated By You by Diane Alberts | Character Interview, Review, & Giveaway

Today I'm turning my blog over to Diane Alberts, who I had a character interview with one of the main characters from her latest novella "Captivated By You," which is the 1st book in her Superstars in Love Series!!

ALSO -- Be sure to sign up for this tour's GIVEAWAY!! [Blog Tour will run from November 12 - December 28, 2012 | Giveaway ends on December 31, 2012 | "Hot Holidays" Twitter Chat is scheduled for December 20, 9:00 pm EST, hosted by @swoonromance, and that will include authors such as Diane Alberts, Michelle Zink, Cora Carmack, Nicola Marsh, Carolina Jordan and Samantha Spencer]

My Q&A with a character from "Captivated By You" :

Character's Name : Mark
Character's Age : twenty-six
Character's Appearance : Movie star attractive, brown hair, very muscular yet lean.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

First, I’d like to say thank you so much for having me here today! ~clears throat~ Okay. Well, I’m a movie star. Been living in the spotlight for the last eight years. I mostly do romance movies, but I’m hoping to branch out into something different soon.

What is your favorite article of clothing?

Oh, that’s an easy one. The Prada jacket I wore when I knocked on Lacey’s door. I’ll always love that coat.

What is your favorite book?

Harry Potter. Lacey and I read the whole series together.

What is your favorite food?

Filet mignon with seasoned onions. Mashed potatoes on the side, with lots of brown gravy. I could eat that meal every single day, and die a happy man.

Do you have a favorite place to go and/or vacation spot?

Colorado. It’s where I grew up, and it’s where I fell in love. It’ll always be my favorite place on Earth—followed closely by Hawaii.

Is there anything that you ever regret for having done? If so, can you tell us about it?

~frowns~ Not writing Lacey back. I regret that every second of every day.

What is one thing you wouldn't be caught dead doing?

Going to church. I never really went, and I fear the church would set on fire if I stepped foot inside of it.

What is one of the most romantic things you’ve done or have had done to you?

I don’t like to brag about romantic things I’ve done...so I’ll say one Lacey did. I came home from a grueling business trip last week, and she met me at the door wearing a soft red dress, killer heels, and a glass of my favorite wine. We sat down on the couch, sipping wine, while a cook prepared a meal. She brought the man in from my favorite restaurant in town.

It was the best night ever.

Have you ever gone out in public with your shirt on backwards, or your slippers on, and when realizing it, just said screw it?

~laughs~ No. The paparazzi would have a filed day with that one, if I did. And my publicist would crucify me.

Did you do have a good Thanksgiving? Anything monumental happen to you or in your family?

I did. We shared the holiday with my sister and her husband, Lacey’s parents, and mine. It was private and quiet—just how I like it.

Have you started your Christmas shopping or have it almost completed?

Oh, I’m done. With my schedule, I’m always buying throughout the whole year. ~leans in and lowers voice~ I bought the prettiest necklace in Paris for Lacey. I can’t wait to give it to her. And I might have found a ring...

"Captivated By You" [Superstars in Love Series, Book 1] by Diane Alberts (aka Jen McLaughlin)

My Book Summary : Even though Mark is one of Hollywood latest heartthrobs nothing will keep him away from spending Christmas with his sister, even if that means dealing with a snowstorm during the time he planned to drive back to CA, much to his manager's disappointment. However, things seem to go from bad (he can't find a flight to take him back to CA) to worse (his car gets stuck in a ditch) up until he decides to seek shelter at the nearest home until a tow truck can pick him up and finds himself face-to-face with his longtime secret crush and old friend, Lacey. Quickly they both find that personal passions still spark for them, if only they can both believe they have a chance for something more once the morning arrives...

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars, this sweet, world-win fantasy romance that keeps you on your toes while you are charmed by the characters! I enjoyed this short story. It gave enough background info to reel you in and make you root for Mark & Lacey.

I just wish it was longer or had an epilogue. If it did then I might have given it a better rating, since it just wasn't enough for me to fully fall in love with them yet I DID like the characters a lot.

I recommend this novella to anyone who likes reading about Hollywood romances!

“So, it’s not what you expected?” she asked, her voice quiet.
Mark looked up at her through his lashes, his eyes locked on her. “I enjoy my career. I enjoy acting. But ... sometimes I wish I had picked a different one.”
She shook her head. “Why would you want to give up your Hollywood lifestyle? You wear it well.”
“Well, maybe I wouldn’t give up everything.” He pushed the glass away and picked up the People Magazine. He stopped at a page where his picture was plastered across it. “See this? That day I was sick. Felt like shit and dragged my feverish ass out of bed to get my prescription filled.”
She leaned closer and looked at the picture. “You look happy to me. Of course, you’re wearing sunglasses so I can’t see your eyes, but you look content enough.”
“Yeah, because I have to look that way. If the paparazzi take a picture of me with a red nose and puffy eyes—next day they’ll be calling me a drug addict. Saying I was out all night partying and snorting lines of cocaine. Next thing you know, my publicist is making me enter rehab for exhaustion.”
“That sucks.” ~ within Chapter 2

Blog Tour - Try Me by Diane Alberts | Interview & Giveaway

Today I'm turning my blog over to Diane Alberts, who I interviewed about her latest novel "Try Me," which is the 1st book in her Take a Chance Series!!

ALSO -- Be sure to check out Rafflecopter at the bottom of this post to be able to sign up for this blog stop's GIVEAWAY!! [Blog Tour will run from July 2 - 16, 2012]

My Q&A with Diane Alberts :

Diane : Thanks for inviting me here today to talk about "Try Me," the first book in the Take a Chance series.

Jess : Your welcome!! I'm glad to have you!!

What books did you enjoy reading while growing up?

Diane : Well, ironically enough...romance books! I started reading them when I was twelve, and haven’t stopped since. My first romance books I read were written by Jude Deveraux, Johanna Lindsey, and Julie Garwood.

Jess : Which of your characters would you most & least to invite to dinner, from which book and why?

Diane : Most: Erica and Jeremy from "Try Me." And Jeremy would only be let in the door if he was shirtless. I mean, look at those abs!

Least: Johanna’s mother from "On One Condition." I don’t care much for her.

Jess : What sparked the idea for your Take a Chance Series?

Diane : The first scene, where Jeremy is alone and beaten in a desert, and feeling sorry for himself. That scene rose in my head, and I hurried to get it written. And when I discovered he was a Marine? It made him even hotter. Seriously.

Jess : Is there one particular scene in "Try Me" that you’re dying for readers to read? Can you tell us anything about it?

Diane : The epilogue! ~laughs~ I’ve heard from a lot of readers, and this seems to be their favorite part—minus Jeremy’s abs. And it just so happens to be mine, too. If you buy it and read it, feel free to contact me and let me know if you agree!

Jess : If "Try Me" were to be made into a film, who do you see playing the main characters and why?

Diane : Channing Tatum as Jeremy—he so looks the part. He’d be perfect. And Nina Dobrev for Erica. I think she could get that whole haunted, uncertain quality down pat.

Jess : Which usually comes first for you, the character(s) story or the idea for the novel?

Diane : It varies, really. But for "Try Me," it was the first scene with Jeremy that got the juices flowing.

Jess : Please describe your hero, from "Try Me," in one to two sentences.

Diane : He’s hot with tattoos and a pair of abs that can inspire lust in anyone. But deep down, he’s longing for love from the one person he can never have—and can never stop loving.

Jess : In regards to your most recent novel, if you could write it all over again, would you change anything about it?

Diane : Nope, I don’t think so. I loved the characters, and the book itself. I love Jeremy and Erica. I wouldn’t change a thing!

Jess : How many books have you written? Which is your favorite and why?

Diane : I’ve written fifteen novels and novellas. I think. There might be more. All of them are either published or with publishers being considered. I’m an addict, and I can’t stop! ~grin~

And I can’t pick a favorite! I love them all. And if they found out I picked a favorite, what would they think? LOL.

Jess : Do you have any other projects in the works? If so, can you share a little of your current work with us?

Diane : I’m currently working on a fun enemies to lovers story that is taking me for a ride. It’s so refreshing to write characters that hate each other.

Also, the second book in the Take a Chance series will be out in a little while, and it’s called "Love Me." It’s Tommy’s story.

Thank you for having me here today! I hope to come back to visit again, soon!

Gaby Triana's Wake the Hollow - YA Retelling of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow":

Forget the ghosts, Mica. It’s real, live people you should fear.

Tragedy has brought Micaela Burgos back to her hometown of Sleepy Hollow. It’s been six years since she chose to live with her father in Miami instead of her eccentric mother. And now her mother is dead.

This town will suck you in and not let go.

Sleepy Hollow may be famous for its fabled headless horseman, but the town is real. So are its prejudices and hatred, targeting Mica’s family as outsiders. But ghostly voices carry on the wind, whispering that her mother’s death was based on hate…not an accident at all. With the help of two very different guys—who pull at her heart in very different ways—Micaela must awaken the hidden secret of Sleepy Hollow…before she meets her mother’s fate.

Find the answers.

Unless, of course, the answers find you first.

Gaby's Answer to What YA Retelling She'd Like to See in 100 Words or Less:

As a huge fan of haunted house stories, I’d love to see a retelling of the Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. First published in 1959, this was and still is, one of the finest examples of psychological terror ever known in the horror genre, and because I love stories that scare you with what’s not there rather than what is, I would love to see this interpreted for a teen audience. Are we caught up in Eleanor’s mind, or is a real poltergeist haunting her? “Whatever walked there, walked alone.” Yeah, definitely this one.

Vivi Barnes, author of Olivia Twisted, which is a YA Retelling of Oliver Twist:

Tossed from foster home to foster home, Olivia’s seen a lot in her sixteen years. She’s hardened, sure, though mostly just wants to fly under the radar until graduation. But her natural ability with computers catches the eye of Z, a mysterious guy at her new school. Soon, Z has brought Liv into his team of hacker elite―break into a few bank accounts, and voila, he drives a motorcycle. Follow his lead, and Olivia might even be able to escape from her oppressive foster parents. As Olivia and Z grow closer, though, so does the watchful eye of Bill Sykes, Z’s boss. And he’s got bigger plans for Liv…

Thanks to Z, Olivia’s about to get twisted.

Olivia Decoded:

This isn’t my Jack, who once looked at me like I was his world. The guy who’s occupied the better part of my mind for eight months.

This is Z, criminal hacker with a twisted agenda and an arsenal full of anger.

I’ve spent the past year trying to get my life on track. New school. New friends. New attitude. But old flames die hard, and one look at Jack—the hacker who enlisted me into his life and his hacking ring, stole my heart, and then left me—and every memory, every moment, every feeling comes rushing back. But Jack’s not the only one who’s resurfaced in my life. And if I can’t break through Z’s defenses and reach the old Jack, someone will get hurt…or worse.

Vivi's Answer to What YA Retelling She'd Like to See in 100 Words or Less:

I first saw the movie To Kill A Mockingbird when I was a teenager, and I believe it played a large part in opening my eyes to the realities and consequences of racism. Considering the state of the world today, I would love to see the story retold as a young adult novel with a Muslim-American Tom Robinson. I think capturing the attention of young adults through literature is one of the most effective ways we can change the world for the better.

Cindi Madsen's All the Broken Pieces - YA Retelling of Frankenstein:

What if your life wasn’t your own?

Liv comes out of a coma with no memory of her past and two distinct, warring voices inside her head. Nothing, not even her reflection, seems familiar. As she stumbles through her junior year, the voices get louder, insisting she please the popular group while simultaneously despising them. But when Liv starts hanging around with Spencer, whose own mysterious past also has him on the fringe, life feels complete for the first time in, well, as long as she can remember.

Liv knows the details of the car accident that put her in the coma, but as the voices invade her dreams, and her dreams start feeling like memories, she and Spencer seek out answers. Yet the deeper they dig, the less things make sense. Can Liv rebuild the pieces of her broken past, when it means questioning not just who she is, but what she is?

Cindi's Answer to What YA Retelling She'd Like to See in 100 Words or Less:

Hmm. What retelling would I love to see? I’m a big fan of the classics, and twists on them. I’ll read just about any Pride & Prejudice retelling. Beauty and the Beast is also a favorite. But I’d love to see a modern retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo. I think that there could be a lot of possibilities and different ways to go, but I think one with a lot of tension and romance and kissing (my fave), would be amazing! And I just found out Entangled Teen recently acquired a Count of Monte Cristo retelling called STING, by Cindy Wilson! *makes grabby hands*

Jenny Trout's Such Sweet Sorrow - YA Retelling of Romeo & Juliet and Hamlet:

Never was there a tale of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo…

But true love never dies. Though they’re parted by the veil between the world of mortals and the land of the dead, Romeo believes he can restore Juliet to life, but he’ll have to travel to the underworld with a thoroughly infuriating guide.
Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, may not have inherited his father’s crown, but the murdered king left his son a much more important responsibility—a portal to the Afterjord, where the souls of the dead reside. When the determined Romeo asks for help traversing the treacherous Afterjord, Hamlet sees an opportunity for adventure and the chance to avenge his father’s death.

A. L. Davroe's Nexis - YA Retelling of "Cinderella":

In the domed city of Evanescence, appearance is everything. A Natural Born amongst genetically-altered Aristocrats, all Ella ever wanted was to be like everyone else. Augmented, sparkling, and perfect. Then…the crash. Devastated by her father’s death and struggling with her new physical limitations, Ella is terrified to learn she is not just alone, but little more than a prisoner.

Her only escape is to lose herself in Nexis, the hugely popular virtual reality game her father created. In Nexis she meets Guster, a senior player who guides Ella through the strange and compelling new world she now inhabits. He offers Ella guidance, friendship…and something more. Something that allows her to forget about the “real” world, and makes her feel whole again.

A.L.'s Answer to What YA Retelling She'd Like to See in 100 Words or Less:

I’m a huge fan of retellings of stories that are a little less well know. Even better? Gender swapped stories! That’s a field rich for the harvest and I don’t know why we’re not all jumping on that boat. Although, I hear Channing Tatum is going to be in a gender-swapped version of Splash. That’s gonna be something to see…

Kendra C. Highley's Finding Perfect - YA Retelling of Pygmalion in reverse:

This Entangled Teen Crush book contains swoony situations, adult language, and a perfectly imperfect hero with an eye for calculus and a heart of gold.

How far will you go for perfection?

For “Perfect Paige” Westfeld, today is “D” Day. As in, she just got one on her calculus test. With her dreams of Stanford, her reputation, and her parents’ expectations at stake, Paige needs to find a way to save face before everything she’s worked for goes up in flames.

Ben Franklin (yes, he’s related) is from the wrong side of town, with the wrong clothes and the wrong kind of life. He also knows an opportunity when he sees one, and he’ll be happy to tutor Paige—if she makes him into the kind of guy her best friend, the hottest girl in school, will date.

It’s the perfect arrangement. And Paige is determined not even the inconvenient—and utterly imperfect—attraction simmering between her and Ben will ruin it…

Kendra's Answer to What YA Retelling She'd Like to See in 100 Words or Less:

I’d love the see Samson and Delilah told as an epic love story between two enemies, in a dystopian where magic is real (think An Ember in the Ashes). Samson, an eighteen-year- old with unusual strength has been helping his country’s army fight off an invasion by Delilah’s countrymen. Delilah, a renowned beauty, is blackmailed into starting a relationship with Samson to spy for her country in exchange from saving her sister from slavers. Against all odds, they fall in love, but Delilah still has to betray Samson. The twist would be that she frees him from his captors in the end, and they escape together.

Bad girls burn hot…

Red is the color of Kia Alcott’s hair.

It’s her temper, which blazes hot and always gets Kia into way too much trouble. And it’s the color of fire. Fires that Kia can start…just by thinking about them.

When her latest “episode” gets her kicked out of school, Kia is shipped off to her grandmother, who works for the wealthy Blackwoods. It’s an estate shrouded in secrets, surrounded by rules, and presided over by a family that is far from normal…including the gorgeous and insolent Ethan Blackwood.

Ethan knows far more about the dangers of the forest surrounding the estate than Kia can ever imagine. For this forest has teeth, and Ethan is charged with protecting the outside world from its vicious mysteries.

But inside, even the most vibrant shade of red doesn’t stand a chance against the dark secrets of the Blackwood family…

When your life feels like a bad movie, rewrite the script.

When Willa Schofer’s father comes home from a business trip with an über-famous new fiancée, Willa’s senior year blows up in paparazzi-fueled flames. Overnight, she has a new house, a new car, and a new soon-to-be stepbrother—the unbelievably hot, unbelievably arrogant, Finn McCain. Thank god he’s constantly pushing her buttons, or she might do something irresponsible. Like fall for the jerk.

Just when Willa’s decided to avoid him for, oh, ever, Finn lands in the center of her senior project team. Seriously—how hard is it to shake a guy? At least her work on the project snagged the attention of the (second) hottest guy in school. Because crushing on your annoying stepbrother? So not cool.

"Awakening the Warriors" [Legends of the Seven Galaxies Series, Book 2] by S. E. Gilchrist

My Book Summary : Fran is seriously reconsidering her decision to leave Earth to move onto a new colony located on another planet, especially since she is currently trapped in a dungeon because of a war going on. The only way of escaping and protecting her fellow inmates is if she can awaken the sexual power two of the male inmates’ posses. Now if she can protect her heart along the way she might survive everything...

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars! A brave woman takes it upon herself to find a way to escape confinement and possible experimentation with the help of two sexy men.

This novella has potential. However, even though I knew it was a short story before I began to read it, it felt overly rushed. It's only redeeming quality was the hot scenes between the Fran, Jerrell, and Quain.

I recommend everyone to try this novella since the series does sound interesting. It's mostly for those who like sci-fi erotic romances!

Idolizing In: Lone Pine Pride Series, Book 3

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon: Paperback - Pages: 274; Kindle Edition - File Size: 948 KB | Expected Release Date: February 10, 2015 | Publisher: Samhain Publishing | Obtained: NetGalley

"Hawk's Revenge" [Lone Pine Pride Series, Book 3] by Vivi Andrews (aka Lizzie Shane)

Author's Book Description : Her betrayal is unforgivable. But their passion? Unforgettable.

Hawk-shifter Adrian Sokolov made the mistake of trusting the beautiful Dr. Rachel Russell once—and wound up drugged, captured, and experimented on inside Organization Labs.

He isn’t about to make the same mistake again, but when she offers to help him escape this hell hole, he can’t say no. Her only condition? That he take her with him.

From the moment Rachel discovered her bosses’ true intent, she’s been secretly smuggling shifters out of the Labs. But now the higher-ups suspect they have a mole, and it’s time to flee—but not before she frees the golden-eyed hawk she was forced to betray.

When their escape goes wrong, Adrian wakes, confused and alone, in the safety of the Lone Pine Pride infirmary and realizes he may have left behind the one ally the shifters had within the Organization—the same breathtaking woman who invades his dreams.

Now he must face the Organization that destroyed him… before she pays for his freedom with her life.

Warning: This book contains betrayals, escapes, rescues, plots, double-crosses, a sexy surly hero, a heroine who deserves sainthood… and a pride full of trouble.

Genre: Paranormal Romance :: Heat Level: Spicy :: Length: Novel

My Book Review : 5 out of 5 stars! The Lone Pine Pride Series, with all of its novels including "Hawk's Revenge," are a spin-off from Ms. Andrews’ Serengeti Shifters Series and while each of the novels are all connected very closely, because of the way the background plot of the series runs, readers can expect them to be stand-alone-ish novels.

For the past four years, Rachel has been a fertility scientist working for the Organization and during that time, she has secretly organized shifters to escape. Six months ago, the Organization became suspicious of her and her relationship with Adrian (Noah/Hawk), a hawk shifter who she was sort of dating and helping her get the shifter escapees further away than they could by themselves. So, for the sake of all her plans and the escapees she allows the Organization to capture Adrian, and in the end herself too. Recently she has gotten Adrian released from the compound but will that personal betrayal between them be easy to overcome? Will Adrian understand why she did what she did to him and go back to save her too? Was what they shared together even real or just a lot of pent up lust? So many questions and lies between them, with so little time will they be able to get the closure they need or will everything fall apart?

OH MY GOD!! I WAS ADDICTED TO THIS NOVEL FROM THE VERY BEGINNING! So much so, that if it wasn’t for my husband saying it was time for bed I probably stayed up all night to read it, as it was I went to bed at 11:30 pm. =0)

I was very intrigued and could not get enough! This thrillingly intense novel is all about overcoming circumstances that you were thrown in while trying to trust your instincts by doing the right thing. Sizzling, hot, and passionate. Adrian and Rachel’s relationship sets this novel one cut above the rest with the dynamic ways these two came back together. I’m amazed by how it all worked out for them! I cannot wait to see where Ms. Andrews will take this series and this couple next.

I HIGHLY recommend this novel and series to those looking for a uniquely intense paranormal thriller romance!

Blog Tour - Made the Grade: One Wet Summer by Ann Montclair | Interview, Review, & Giveaway

Today I'm turning my blog over to Ann Montclair, who I interviewed about her latest novel "One Wet Summer!!"

ALSO -- Be sure to comment on this post to be able to sign up for this tour's GIVEAWAYs (listed below)!! [Blog Tour will run from June 18 - 29, 2012]

My Q&A with Ann Montclair :

Jess : What books did you enjoy reading while growing up?

Ann : I loved reading traditional fairy tales, Aesop’s Fables, Little Golden Books, Charlotte’s Web, YA classics by S. E. Hinton—then I found my mom’s romance novels, and my love of that genre took firm hold by the time I was 12 or 13.

Jess : Which of your characters would you most & least to invite to dinner, from which book and why?

Ann : I’d love to cook for Maura Fields (the heroine) and Jessie Driscoll (the hero’s daughter) from "One Wet Summer." Maura would make a fantastic guest because she loves food and isn’t terribly particular, and Jessie could hang out with my twelve year old son. I’d host a barbecue at the local state park, and we could go swimming there. I know they’d enjoy those activities.

The person I’d least like to dine with would be Lexi from "The Billionaire’s Bauble"—she’s got questionable character, and she’s rather snobbish.

Jess : What sparked the idea for "One Wet Summer?"

Ann : My daughter Morgan was on the swim team at her HS, and I remember being impressed, awed even, at how comfortable she was in a swimsuit in front of scads of people. Such body confidence, especially when one is growing and changing, is admirable. I wanted to write an adult character who possessed that same mojo. Maura isn’t perfect by Hollywood standards, but she is perfectly at ease with her large size and athletic physique. That’s where the story started for me—at a pool, in a swimsuit.

Jess : When writing "One Wet Summer" did you listen to a certain song list/playlist that you could share with us?

Ann : I wish I had a clever response, but to be honest, I write without music. Household noise surrounds me, so music happens, but I don’t choose it. I leave that to hubby (jam bands) and son (rap).

Jess : If "One Wet Summer" were to be made into a film, who do you see playing the main characters and why?

Ann : Zooey Deschanel would make a cute Maura, and Ben could be played by Josh Duhamel. It’s funny, but a fellow author thinks the cover shot of Ben looks like a young Patrick Swayze.

Jess : Which usually comes first for you, the character(s) story or the idea for the novel?

Ann : My stories are character driven, so the heroine is first, then her hero, then their situation.

Jess : Please describe your hero, from "One Wet Summer," in one to two sentences.

Ann : Ben Driscoll is a man who has had to work hard for his rewards, and those efforts have consumed him. Nothing has gone as planned or expected in his life, but he is dedicated to making the best of every situation.

Jess : In regards to your most recent novel, if you could write it all over again, would you change anything about it?

Ann : No. I’m a writer who believes, “I told the story the best I could.” Now that it’s told, I’m on to the next one.

Jess : How many books have you written? Which is your favorite and why?

Ann : I’ve written five books, and I’ve published two and have contracts for two more. Each novel I’ve written is part of my heart. They’re like my kids: I couldn’t possibly pick a favorite!

Jess : Do you have any other projects in the works? If so, can you share a little of your current work with us?

Ann : I am in edits for my next novel, "Good Things Come in Tall Packages." The main characters are two people readers will meet in "One Wet Summer." It’ll be released August 2012 from Musa Publishing. Here’s the blub-in-progress for "Good Things Come in Tall Packages."
When vivacious Savannah attorney and socialite Lucy Alcott entered the Hyatt looking for fun, martinis, and if lucky, some hot sex, the last thing she expected to find was a man who would compel her to reveal her innermost thoughts and challenge her adversity to love and commitment. Polar opposites in every sense of the word, tall, handsome, debonair, African American Dr. Joe Connors, with his compassion, deep spirituality, and philanthropic nature, rocked Lucy like no man had before. When an unexpected meeting six months later brings them together again, will a family crisis and Joe’s request for help overcome Lucy’s fear of losing her heart, or is the fact they are from two worlds and two ethnicities destined to keep them apart forever?
Jess : What is your favorite drink?

Ann : Coffee. I can’t live without it. I love red wine, too.

Jess : If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?

Ann : "Love Triumphs"

Jess : What book are you reading now? How do you like it so far?

Ann : I’m a voracious reader who consumes up to five books a week. Today I started "Sea Swept" [Chesapeake Bay Saga, Book 1] by Nora Roberts. I’ll read the other two in that series when I finish the first. I love it so far. Nora writes compelling characters, and I love her American settings.

About the Author :

I was born in Los Angeles, California, where my parents and grown daughter now reside. I currently live in the Finger Lakes region of New York with my sexy hero, our handsome son, and a pile of lazy dogs and ferocious cats. I enjoy a plethora of hobbies including but not limited to attending concerts, hiking and cycling, cooking, and gardening. I love to dance, to dress up, and I'll go just about anywhere a good time can be had.

I've built a satisfying career as an English professor at a small, rural community college, and now I'm also writing and publishing romance. I've finished and sold a few contemporary titles, and I'm working on perfecting a Tudor historical, and penning a modern day romantic suspense. I plan to spend the rest of my life reading and writing in my little cabin in the woods.

My biggest wish is that each of my readers will be inspired to believe in and find their own happily-ever-after.

"One Wet Summer" by Ann Montclair

My Book Summary : Ben was living the playboy lifestyle up until his ex-wife died leaving his five-year-old daughter to him to solely raise while trying to keep running his successful hotel. Now two years later Ben has created a loving structured life for his daughter. It's a life he's happy with even though during those two years he hasn't dated anyone he hasn't really wanted to date anyone either. That is until he meets Maura ...

Maura is staying two weeks at Ben's hotel as a gift from her parents and she plans to enjoy every minute of it! And after she meets Ben, their attraction is undeniable, her trip is looking even better! However, because Ben has been use to keeping everyone at arms length (except his daughter) during these past two years their relationship goes back-and-forth between moving at a rapid-pace to them slowing everything down and being unsure of the relationship between them.

Will everything work out for them, leaving them to realize that they are meant to be together? Or will they come to the conclusion that they can't put their hearts on the line for love?

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars. Love finds a way of proving that everything you thought you wanted out of life is wrong and can usually turn out even better if only you'll allow it to! I loved Jessie!! She sounded adorable and mature beyond her years (after everything she went through). Maura and Ben have their moments when they are great characters and moments when you just want to smack them. With that being said, I enjoyed the plot and the intrigue that surrounds this book. It did made me wish that all of them (Maura, Ben, & Jessie) would get their happily-ever-after. =0)

I recommend this novel to anyone who is looking for a good contemporary romance novel!!

Author's Novel Extras : Find out my deja vu moment...

Book Teaser(s) :
Teaser #1 ~ within Chapter 1
“Let’s not talk about your leaving when you’ve just arrived. You’re staying two whole weeks, and I plan to monopolize every single second, if you’ll allow me.” He realized how much he meant the words. Maura made him feel like he was a man with a future instead of only a past. And the scent of her velvety skin and the heat of her body tucked up tight to his reminded him he was not just a father, but a red-blooded man.
“Well, if you insist...” She tapped him playfully on his chin.
“I do insist, as long as I’m not intruding on your good time.” He moved his chin aside and air-bit at her finger.
“You are my good time,” she said, and her voice lowered huskily.
He caught her palm, laid it against his cheek, and said, “You’re mine, too.” ~ within Chapter 7

Book Excerpt :

Maura had nothing to lose and everything to gain. Why not? What was she here for? Fun. And escape from the responsibilities of catering to children. This man looked like more fun than she had ever had, and Savannah was certainly an escape from the confines of her seventh grade classroom at Atlanta Mills Middle School. Ms. Fields was just Maura today, and damn, it felt good.

“My name is Maura Fields,” she said, and she giggled as his lips pursed—as if he were tasting her name and found he liked its flavor. “Maura Fields: single woman, no complications. Are you married, encumbered in any way? I hate to be so blunt, Ben, but I am a woman alone on vacation, and I don’t want to find myself taken advantage of, even by someone as beguiling as you.”

He looked taken aback as his blue eyes rounded and one eyebrow arched. “Ms. Fields, I am not married. Does that make you feel more at ease with my invitation?”

“Why, yes, it does!” she couldn’t help but exclaim.

“So, I will see you at four, ready to swim?” he inquired again, but this time it sounded like a statement, a predetermined actuality. Maura liked an assertive man, especially one so dapper. She nodded her head affirmatively, not trusting herself to make a dignified sound.

Ben bowed slightly and slowly raked his brilliant eyes over her body, toe to top. With an appreciative smile playing about his sexy mouth, he said, “Maura, you’re the best thing that has happened around this old place in a very long time.”
