Ms. Broday's Single “Quick Draw” Q&A :

Linda Broday’s latest is coming out this December! The final title in the Bachelor of Battle Creek trilogy, "Forever His Texas Bride" is sure to sweep readers off of their feet. To celebrate her new release, we’ve asked Linda to answer a “Quick Draw” either/or question and to share an excerpt with us!

Books or movies? This one is hard but I’ll have to choose books. You can go through a story at the speed you want and read them over and over again. Another cool advantage is that you the reader, not an actor, can decide what these story people look like.

"Forever His Texas Bride"
[Bachelors of Battle Creek Trilogy, Book 3] by Linda Broday

Author's Book Description :
“There’s this thing between us that refuses to die. I’d like nothing better than to be able to…” His words faded. He’d give anything to change people’s views about his race…to be able to make her his wife.

But the world wasn’t that simple. Not for people like them.

She was a pickpocket and he a half-breed.

All his life, Brett Liberty has straddled two worlds: white and Iroquois. The only place he’s truly at peace is with his wild mustangs. But after he’s arrested for the color of his skin, he discovers Rayna Harper in the cell next to him. Rough and tumble Rayna has known little kindness, but Brett sees the depth of her heart hidden beneath layers of hurt and fear, and he refuses to leave without her.

Fierce and loyal, kind and strong, Rayna is everything Brett has ever wanted. But the world doesn’t look kindly on a love like theirs, and he would rather let her go than bring her pain. Yet when the demons of his past threaten her future, Brett realizes he will do anything to keep Rayna safe…and make her his.

Book Excerpt :

Rayna sat up, pushed back her cloud of russet hair, and got up from the bunk in Brett’s jail cell. It was then he saw that she wore a heavy pair of men’s brogans. What on earth! The shoes looked as though they might’ve come off a very poor dead man.
Her dirty dress had been mended so many times it looked like a patchwork quilt with none of the squares matching. But she seemed so spirited, so brave.
If society had ever allowed him to take a wife, he’d want someone like her. He hated to think he’d have spent all his life never knowing what it could be like to be happy like his brothers now were. While he waited to die, maybe they could pretend.
Maybe he could know what it was like to be loved.
Until they led him through those doors to a hangman, maybe he could have the bride prejudice had denied him. The bold notion made ripples dance under his skin.
Brett raised to a sitting position, ignoring the pain shooting through his back. “This may sound crazy, but I’m going to ask anyway. Rayna, do you think you could pretend to be my wife? Just until they take me away? No one will ever know but us, so they can’t hurt you.”
Turning, she dropped down beside him. Surprised tears bubbled in her eyes. “No one ever asked me to marry them before.”
“Is that a no?”
“I’d be honored to be your pretend wife,” she whispered, brushing his face with her fingers. “What do we do now?”
“Do you mind if I kiss you?”
“I’d like that…husband.”
Under her bright gaze, he lowered his head. But before their lips touched, the sound of a key grating in the lock made him jerk back. “Quick, go to your cell before they catch you with me.”
Rayna scurried into hers and quietly eased the door shut.
Just then a deputy sauntered in, taking care to keep his distance from Brett’s cell. “You alive, breed?”
Brett glared. “Disappointed?”
The deputy—a squat man who reminded Brett of a possum with little weasel eyes, grunted, shifting his gaze to Rayna. “Give any thought to my offer, woman?”
No one had to spell out what the deputy meant. Brett sought to tamp down his rising anger. He watched Rayna tilt her head at a defiant angle.
“The answer is the same as all the other times.”
The weasel shrugged and went back out. The minute the door locked shut, Rayna slowly walked into Brett’s cell and sat down beside him again. “I wish I could see the sky and smell the fresh air.”
“How long have you been in here?”
“Over a month, I think. With each sunrise I’ve been making a mark on the wall. The one today makes thirty-one. But no matter how much I want out, I’m not doing what that deputy wants,” she whispered. “I’ll never be a fine lady, but even I have my dignity. No one will ever take that.”
Though still hesitant, Brett took her small, dainty hand. Her skin shone white against his. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d touched someone who wasn’t family, but his pretend wife was different somehow. “Always stand on your principles. In the end, we still have to live with ourselves, look at our face in the mirror.”

Blog Tour - Daniel’s True Desire by Grace Burrowes | Guest Post, Spreading the Word, & Ms. Burrowes' TRUE GENTLEMEN Series Giveaway

Today I'm turning my blog over to Grace Burrowes, who is has a message for you all about True Gentlemanliness.

ALSO -- Be sure to check out Rafflecopter at the bottom of this post to be able to sign up for this blog stop's GIVEAWAY!! [Blog Tour & Giveaway will run from November 2 - 29, 2015]

The Joys of True Gentlemanliness…

About twenty books ago, I lamented (whined) to one of my brothers that coming up with ways to challenge a romance hero into facing his worst fears and risking all to win the heroine’s heart was taxing my imagination. My brother, without a heartbeat’s pause said, “Make him choose between the competing demands of honor.”

THAT was great advice. Make the hero choose between the woman who needs him, and the military unit depending on him. Make him choose between avenging injustices from his past, or respecting the wishes of the pacifist woman he loves. Make him decide whether to be publicly vindicated or privately forgiving… Delightful stuff, for an author!

And yet, to travel along these brilliant character arcs, our hero must have one characteristic: He must have a well-developed sense of honor. To me, that means this fellow must be honest and kind. He can be poor, grouchy, lacking in charm, without prospects, unlucky in love—Daniel Banks is nodding his head—but ideally, he will still be a true gentleman at heart.

The true gentleman, alas for him, can be tormented from page one by the author and by the story, but from the start, the true gentleman will play by the rules of decency.

Rules are tough. The true gentleman will never misrepresent himself, which means Daniel Banks must inform Lady Kirsten that a) he’s married, and b) he won’t disrespect his vows. Too bad for Daniel, this honesty only raises him in the lady’s esteem, when he’s trying to emphasize his unsuitability.

The true gentleman will lend a hand—or an ear—to those in need. When Daniel Banks realizes that Lady Kirsten has been overlooked by her entire family, and is as lonely as an earl’s daughter can be, the least he can do is listen when she explains the misery in her past. Again, his respect for, and understanding of her increases, but what else could a gentleman have done?

The true gentleman is kind. He does not ignore the suffering of others, even if that means, he’s left with a bigger helping of suffering on his own plate. When Lady Kirsten needs a champion to fight her battles with an overbearing brother, Daniel steps up, though it might cost him his position. Once again, Daniel’s decency only gets him in hotter water, because now Kirsten’s brother is also viewing the impecunious, reserved, sometimes grouchy, vicar with renewed respect.

This business of being a true gentleman is darned hard, and darned heroic. What Daniel has to learn, though, is that true gentlemanliness begins at home. When he’s honest with himself, and shows himself the compassion we all deserve, all the inconvenient rules, tough choices, and honorable standards turn out to have been his second-best friends.

Lady Kirsten is, of course, his very best friend, being a true lady. But that’s another story…

"Daniel’s True Desire"
[The True Gentlemen Series, Book 2] by Grace Burrowes

Author's Book Description :
Daniel Banks is a man of the cloth whose vocation is the last comfort he has left–and even his churchman’s collar is beginning to feel like a noose. In an attempt to start his life over, Daniel accepts the post of vicar in Haddondale, a position supported by the Earl of Bellefonte. There Daniel meets Lady Kirsten Haddonfield, to whom life has also dealt multiple unkind blows. Daniel’s interest is piqued by Kirsten’s unsentimental attitude toward her misfortunes, and by the kind-heartedness the lady keeps well hidden. Kirsten is much taken with Mr. Banks and his genuine compassion for others, despite his own troubles. When Providence intervenes, and Daniel and Kirsten can become engaged, their happiness seems complete…. though every garden has at least one nasty, sly, determined serpent.

Daniel’s True Desire by Grace Burrowes | #GuestPost, #SpreadingTheWord, & Ms. Burrowes' TRUE GENTLEMEN Series #Giveaway...
Posted by From Me to You - Video, Photography, & Book Reviews on Monday, November 2, 2015

Book Excerpt :

Daniel Banks is the new vicar in Haddondale, temporarily a guest of Lady Kirsten’s family. They’ve dragooned him into tutoring some of the local boys, and Kirsten is managing the staff who’ll turn the dower house into a place of learning. What Daniel doesn’t know is how a married man, even one estranged from his unworthy spouse, can resist the allure of friendship with Lady Kirsten…

“I dread crossing the garden,” Lady Kirsten said. “Susannah has taken up reading old issues of La Belle Assembleé, Della is memorizing DeBrett’s, and the countess talks only of fashion. Nobody does anything.”

“Most would envy them their idleness,” Daniel said, though he did not. The earl gave a good account of himself, tending to significant acreage and mercantile interests, but the women were bored.

One of the women was mortally bored, though never boring.

“I want to take the vicarage in hand,” Lady Kirsten said, marching from the pantry. “I doubt I’ll have time before we leave for Town the week after next. Lemon and beeswax won’t cure rising damp any way.”

Nothing cured rising damp save for replacing every scrap of affected wood. “You’re leaving soon, then?”

The prospect of distance from Lady Kirsten should have been a relief. She was unconventional, discontent, and unpredictable. Worse yet, she was patient with small boys, had a strong streak of domestic competence, and could not dissemble even to appease appearances.

Most troublesome of all, Daniel liked her. A lot.

“I smell fresh bread.” Lady Kirsten’s pace increased, then she halted to twist a sachet from behind a curtain. “Nicholas told George that in addition to Digby and the Blumenthal brats, you’re to take on both of Squire Webber’s sons. He aspires to send them to public school, but they lack a foundation.”

And years of dedicated tutors had been unable to remedy that lack? “I think you had better join me for lunch,” Daniel said resuming their progress toward a hot meal.

“I believe I shall. I adore a hearty beef stew with bread and butter on a cold, rainy day. Cook uses Mama’s recipe, and I’m partial to it.”

Peasant fare, for an earl’s daughter. Daniel liked her entirely too well.

A scullery maid set places for them at a wooden table heavy enough to double as a threshing floor, while Lady Kirsten served up bowls of steaming stew and Daniel sliced the bread. Daniel held the lady’s chair, and then, without even a nod in the direction of further small talk, took shameless advantage of his companion.

“I want to know every detail you can share about my scholars, Lady Kirsten. They’re shaping up to be a pack of ne’er-do-wells, scamps and scapegraces. One wonders if the parish isn’t attempting to run me off rather than welcome me.”

She snapped her serviette across her lap. “They’re out and out rotters, every one save for Digby, but George says he’s showing dubious potential. Don’t steal all the butter.”

Daniel passed her ladyship the plate of butter, small golden molds in the shape of roses.

“Your butter, and Lord-we-thank-Thee-for-this-food, amen. Now tell me about these scoundrels.”

Lady Kirsten sat back, her smile indulgent. “I’ve known them since they were babies, Mr. Banks. They’re full of energy and mischief, and there’s not a Latin scholar among them. They are truly, truly awful.”

She loved these rotten boys, and—greatest possible inconvenience—Daniel regarded this her most attractive quality of all.

Blog Tour - The Heartbreakers by Ali Novak | Character Interview, Spreading the Word & Giftcard with a YA romance books bundle

Today I'm turning my blog over to Ali Novak, who helped me with the character interview I had with one of the main characters from her novel "The Heartbreakers," which happens to be the FIRST BOOK in her The Heartbreak Chronicles!!

ALSO -- Be sure to check out Rafflecopter at the bottom of this post to be able to sign up for this blog stop's GIVEAWAY!! [Blog Tour & Giveaway will run from July 27 - August 30, 2015]

My Q&A with a character from "The Heartbreakers" :

Character's Name : Oliver Perry
Character's Age : 18
Character's Appearance : Light-brown, wavy hair. Dark blue eyes. Tall, lean.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Sure. I was born in Portland, Oregon and raised by my grandparents. I’m the lead singer and songwriter for the Heartbreakers, and we’re currently getting ready to release our next studio album called Light Years Away. I started writing and making music with my best friend JJ in junior high, and we formed our first band called Infinity and Beyond freshman year of high school.

What is your favorite article of clothing?

You can’t go wrong with a good beanie, but I never take off my Grandpa’s dog tags—they’re very important to me.

What is your favorite book?

Hands down, "Moonraker" by Ian Fleming. It’s my favorite James Bond story.

What is your favorite food?

Pickle rollups. You can’t judge until you’ve tried one.

Do you have a favorite place to go and/or vacation spot?

I’ve toured all over the world and been to some pretty amazing places, but when I have time off, my favorite place to go is home. Nothing beats spending time with friends and family.

Is there anything that you ever regret for having done? If so, can you tell us about it?

Yeah. It’s still kinda hard for me to talk about, but this past year I turned my back on my bandmates. I was so worried about keeping our record label happy that I didn’t realize how unhappy my best friends were. I hurt my girlfriend, Stella, in the process too, and it took a while to gain everyone’s trust back.

What is one thing you wouldn't be caught dead doing?

Stella loves the The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. She tries to get me to watch it all the time, but yeah—that’s never going to happen.

What is one of the most romantic things you’ve done or have had done to you?

Okay, so Stella is obsessed with this famous photographer called Bianca Bridge. For our first date, I tracked down an art gallery that had an original Bianca Bridge print and took her there to see it. I also love cooking dinner for her, and I’ve written a song for her as well.

Have you ever gone out in public with your shirt on backwards, or your slippers on, and when realizing it, just said screw it?

Well, I’ve gone commando before. Does that count?

Do you have any summer plans that you'd like to share with us?

Mainly I’ll be busy with the rest of the band promoting Light Years Away, but any free time I have will be spent in New York with Stella. She goes to school there at SVA.

"The Heartbreakers"
[The Heartbreak Chronicles, Book 1] by Ali Novak

Author's Book Description :
"When I met Oliver Perry, I had no clue he was the lead singer for The Heartbreakers. And he had no idea that I was the only girl in the world who hated his music."

Stella will do anything for her sick sister, Cara—even stand in line for an autographed Heartbreakers CD… for four hours. She’s totally winning best birthday gift this year. At least she met a cute boy with soft brown hair and gorgeous blue eyes while getting her caffeine fix. Too bad she’ll never see him again.

Except, Stella’s life suddenly turned into a cheesy love song. Because Starbucks Boy is Oliver Perry—lead singer for the Heartbreakers. And even after she calls his music crap, Oliver still gives Stella his phone number. And whispers quotes from her favorite Disney movie in her ear. OMG, what is her life?

But how can Stella even think about being with Oliver—dating and laughing and pulling pranks with the band—when her sister could be dying of cancer?

Ali Novak wrote her debut novel "My Life with the Walter Boys" when she was just 15 years old, and has since penned her next book, "The Heartbreakers." First a hit on the online community Wattpad, her second novel has over 38 million reads and is loved by readers around the world.

My Book Review :
4 out of 5 stars! Since freshman year of high school, Stella’s sister (Cara) has been battling cancer, now about four years later Cara’s battle has been getting harder. Therefore, to give Cara the “greatest 18th Birthday present EVER” Stella and their brother Drew attend The Heartbreakers (the “boy band” Cara loves) autograph signing to get Cara’s things signed by the band as the gift for her. However, the day of signing Stella’s life changes forever and her life gets more embroiled with The Heartbreakers with its leader singer Oliver than she ever expected…

All portrayed through Stella’s POV, you get a great start to a very intriguing series and band! [READ MY FULL REVIEW & THREE TEASERS]

However, the day of signing Stella’s life changes forever and her life gets more embroiled with The Heartbreakers with its leader singer Oliver than she ever expected…

I chose/requested to read this novel for the following two main reasons. The first reason is because I’ve had a sudden urge to read rock star romances lately and with its cover/description, this looked like a good one. The second reason is that this novel’s description reminded me of Ms. Rallison’s “Just One Wish,” because the main characters from both novels are trying to get something from someone famous to make their sick siblings happy, and since I really liked Ms. Rallison’s novel I hoped I’d like Ms. Novak’s novel too. As luck would have it, I liked “The Heartbreakers” quite a lot!

All portrayed through Stella’s POV, you get a great start to a very intriguing series and band! Stella deals with Cara’s illness by hanging onto her family and staying close to them all as much as possible. However, Cara is the one who pushes Stella into accepting the Heartbreakers’ job offer and starting her own life away from her family. No matter what happens to Stella, she is still scared of getting her heart broken, and Oliver has player written all over him. Nevertheless, the attraction between Oliver and Stella is undeniable testing her resistance at every opportunity. It was fun watching her fight to have them stay apart.

Together Oliver and Stella are an electric, fun, and enchanting couple. Simply, they even each other out. Even though Stella feels in the dark about Oliver’s past during most of this novel, I enjoyed how their relationship grew and progressed. Yet, while I really liked Oliver as the “hero” and his relationship with Stella, I found this to be more of a women’s fiction novel instead of a romance as it’s based more on Stella’s personal growth than anything else. Even so, I thoroughly enjoyed how this novel’s plot was laid out. I laughed, I cried, I just could not get enough!

I HIGHLY recommend this novel to those looking for a YA version of women’s fiction that also has the bonus of being a romance too!

"Not So New In Town" [Harmony Homecomings Series, Book 2] by Michele Summers

Authors' Book Description : "Sexy and fun! This small-town romance proves you can go home again." - Macy Beckett, acclaimed author of the Dumont Bachelors series.

You can't go back, and you can't stand still...
Lucy Doolan is a marketing genius. She can sell rain to a frog and snow to a polar bear. Newly single and unemployed, she's lured back to her hometown of Harmony, North Carolina to help out her pregnant evil stepsister...only to find former crush heartthrob Brogan Reese has returned too, to open a new business in town. To add insult to injury, he's still hot.

If the thunder don't get you, then the lightning will...
Brogan never noticed Lucy much when they were young, but seventeen people have recommended her to help him. She's got his attention now. With her sweet personality, brilliant imagination, and penchant for doing the completely unpredictable, Brogan is finding a whole lot of excuses to spend his days-and nights-with Lucy.

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars!! Lucy heads back to her hometown with hopes to reinvent herself after a bad breakup and help her rude older stepsister while she's on bed rest. Once home she finds herself floundering to try to keep her teenage nephew's life on track and trying to settle into small town life again. That is until Brogan (her old high school crush and her stepsister's ex-boyfriend) makes it his mission to have them help each other out, him with her nephew and her with marketing his new business. However, old habits die-hard and it soon becomes apparent that her crush for him is alive and well. The good news is it's reciprocated too. Yet as they both have plans to leave town after a few months will their romance be just a fling or turn into something more?

With some surprising twists and a whole lot of charm, this novel keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole way through. From all the characters' playful banter to Lucy's colorful internal & external commentary, I couldn't get enough. I especially enjoyed how unwittingly Brogan sweeps into Lucy's life and lights up her world as their romance begins. They are just SOO perfect for one another! In addition, I liked how even though Lucy's stepsister is rude Lucy tries to put an effort into their relationship, no matter how "grouchy" her sibling gets. Just I am wishing that her sibling wasn't the cause for Brogan's "big epiphany" even though I liked how she got him back on track. The ending was great!

I recommend this novel to those looking for a HOT comedic contemporary romance!

Somehow his chest filled her vision. Lucy dug her toes into the cotton braids of the rug covering the tile floor. Suddenly she realized she'd been arguing about marketing techniques, wearing only her yellow daises sleeping boxers and green tank top, braless. How did this happen? She'd been settling down for a night of chillaxing with her favorite junk food and ended up defending the philosophy of "sex sells" in her skimpy PJs. ~ within Chapter 18

Book Excerpt :

The Duke and Duchess are having a rocky start to their marriage, also to their day…

“Your tea, Duchess.”

Noah had woken up beside his wife—again, despite all plans to the contrary—creating another first for him. Thea had risen several times during the night to tend to herself. He hadn’t realized that monthly courses caused a woman’s rest to be interrupted.

Crashingly bad planning, for a lady’s sleep to be disturbed when she most needed rest.

“You’re not about to steal my tea?” Thea held out the cup, her gaze shy as she sat propped against the headboard.

“Where’s the fun in stealing what’s freely offered?” Noah settled in beside her and filched a bite of her cinnamon toast. “Would you rather have chocolate this morning?”

“Because?”

“You’re”— Noah waved a hand in the direction of her middle—“indisposed.”

“I am not indisposed.” Thea set her teacup down with a little clink. “The discomfort has passed, as it always does. You needn’t be concerned.”

“I am not concerned, Thea.” Not greatly concerned, now that she’d stopped ordering him to go away and was ready for a proper spat. “I am attempting in my bumbling way to dote. You will allow it.”

Drat. He’d given another order.

“You couldn’t bumble if one gave you written instructions, Anselm,” Thea said, looking a little less peaked for having run up her flags. “That was my toast you appropriated.”

“Appropriation is what happens when one’s wife can’t appreciate a little doting. You’re being stingy with the tea, just as you were stingy with the covers. How long does this indisposition last?”

Her chin came up. “I am the Duchess of Anselm. I am not stingy with anything, but you are a very presuming husband.”

“Doting.” Noah took Thea’s free hand to kiss her knuckles— lest she mistake his point. “Also in need of my duchess’s guidance on this one marital matter.”

“This is so personal.” Thea’s gaze was on their joined hands— for Noah would not have her haring off in a fit of mortification. “I didn’t think you’d be a personal sort of husband. You were supposed to appear in my dressing-room doorway a few nights a month, silently take a few marital liberties, and then leave me in peace. We’d trade sections of the Times over breakfast the next morning.”

“Prosaic.” Boring and exactly what Noah himself had envisioned. “Hard to see any doting going on, though.”

“Husband?” Thea’s tone was hesitant. “Thank you, for keeping me company last night. I would not have known how to ask.”

“I suppose that’s the definition of doting.” Noah lingered at the cart to assemble a plate. “It’s the little things you can’t bring yourself to ask for, that an attentive spouse will enjoy providing to you. Bacon or ham?”

“A little of both, please.”

“Feeling carnivorous?”

“I’m a trifle indisposed. I need the sustenance.”

Noah piled both ham and bacon on Thea’s plate, and stole better than half of it, because he needed the sustenance too.

"The Duke's Disaster" [True Gentlemen Series, Book 0.5] by Grace Burrowes

What was I thinking? : I am a fan of Ms. Burrowes, liked the book description of this novel, and hoped I'd be a fan of this novel too, but that didn't happen.

Author's Book Description : Noah Winters, Duke of Anselm, exercises the pragmatism for which he’s infamous when his preferred choice of bride cries off, and her companion, Lady Thea Collins, becomes his next choice for his duchess. Lady Thea’s mature, sensible and even rather attractive—what could possibly go wrong?

My Book Review : 1 out of 5 stars. I don't believe Noah is an awful human being as she states but I agree with the rest of Angie's review. I gave up reading at 37% because I couldn't handle Noah & Thea talking around each other but not to each other. It was aggravating.

"Married to a Perfect Stranger" by Jane Ashford (aka Jane LeCompte)

Authors' Book Description : Quiet and obliging, John Bexley and Mary Fleming married to please their families. A month later, John was sent off on a two-year diplomatic mission. Now he's back, and they find that everything they thought they knew about each other is wrong. It's disconcerting, irritating and...somehow very exciting.

Reviews

...the perfect blend of interesting, emotionally complex and open-hearted protagonists...marvelous... Publishers Weekly starred review

...a touching, heart-warming story. RT Book Reviews 4 stars

Ashford's flawlessly written love story is a quietly compelling tale about what it takes to make a marriage really work. Booklist

An absorbing romance. For all collections. Library Journal

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars, at the urging of their Mothers’ two years ago, John and Mary married each other than John left for a two-year voyage to China for his job at the Foreign Office. Once John returns to England they find that their two years apart has changed them both and as they slowly come to terms with the new changes, they try to figure out how to work as a married couple once and for all. However, are all their personal changes for the better? In addition, with John trying to get advancements at work will they be able to help each other out or will their help turn into more personal blunders?

This is an intensely sweet novel about two supposedly similar individuals, who changed while they were apart, trying to make their marriage work as they navigate the difficulties of English society. I really liked how Mary was able to handle all the changes in her life without ending up being walked on by John or anyone else. Mary’s ability to draw, and what comes out of her drawings, is pretty amazing and makes the reader wish for that ability too. In addition, I liked John and Mary together! They are very sweet as a couple and I liked how John defended Mary, no matter the cost.

I recommend this novel to those looking for an easy flowing, historical romance that is a thrilling read too.

"Never give up?"
"Never!"
Still laughing, he kissed her. ~ within Chapter 15

Feasted On: Geek Girls Series, Book 3

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Paperback - Pages: 384; Kindle Edition - File Size: 1043 KB | Expected Release Date: April 7, 2015 | Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca | Obtained: NetGalley

"Kiss the Earl" [Geek Girls Series, Book 3] by Gina Lamm (aka Regina Cole)

Authors' Book Description : A modern girl’s guide to seducing Mr. Darcy

When Ella Briley asked her lucky-in-love friends to set her up for an office party, she was expecting a blind date. Instead, she’s pulled through a magic mirror and into the past…straight into the arms of her very own Mr. Darcy.

Patrick Meadowfair, earl of Fairhaven, is too noble for his own good. To save a female friend from what is sure to be a loveless marriage, he’s agreed to whisk her off to wed the man she truly wants. But all goes awry when Patrick mistakes Ella for the would-be bride and kidnaps her instead.

Centuries away from everything she knows, Ella’s finally found a man who heats her blood and leaves her breathless. Too bad he’s such a perfect gentleman. Yet the reluctant rake may just find this modern girl far too tempting for even the noblest of men to resist…

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! An old "witchy" housekeeper is at it again, this time by throwing Ella back into the 1800s. While there, she finds herself kidnapped by a "Mr. Darcy" type of Earl and thrown into one calamity after another. However, what will they do when their hearts get involved?

I have mixed feelings about this novel. While I have always enjoyed Pride & Prejudice along with Mr. Darcy, and agree that this novel deserves the 4 star rating I'm giving it, at times it felt like Ms. Lamm was laying it on a bit thick with the amount of troubles Ella & Patrick kept running into. In addition, towards the end I was ready to hit Patrick senseless myself because of how his "gentlemanly ways" were going to destroy him. In addition, I was surprised with how forgiving Ella was to Patrick's friend Amelia and Amelia's love interest, as I don't think I could've been that nice to them after everything they did.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed this novel for Ella's forthrightness, Patrick's protectiveness, and the growing relationship between them. If you are a fan of Mr. Darcy & Elizabeth Bennett then you will like Patrick & Ella. They both deal with getting over major amounts of pride as their feelings grow for each other. Patrick & Ella are a great match!

I recommend this novel to those who are fans of the series and/or if you are interested in a time travel romance!

Book Teaser(s) :
Forgetting his own name would be preferable to dealing with the madwoman in his bedroom and the madwoman he was supposed to have run off with tonight.
Bloody females. He should have become a priest. ~ within Chapter 4
Tossing the rest of her cards down in disgust, Ella shoved to her feet. "It would help if you'd take this game seriously, cat."
A low, rumbling purr was the only answer.
Ella crossed the bedroom to the window, happy to feel how much better her foot was able to painlessly bear her weight. It had been a few days since that weird little incident in the library, and like a big fat coward, Ella had stayed right here in this room, completely avoiding Patrick. She'd read the books Mrs. Templeton had brought her, played more games of solitaire than she cared to admit, and finally, out of desperation, decided to deal the cat in.
That hadn't really gone well. ~ within Chapter 18
