"A Hummingbird Christmas" [Glacier Creek Series, Prequel / A Glacier Creek Novel] by Karen Foley

Author's Book Description : Cole Tanner doesn’t do Christmas.

Abandoned as a child on Christmas Eve, he has no use for the holiday season. When his best friend’s widow arrives in Glacier Creek, Montana, determined to give her small daughter the fairy-tale Christmas she’s dreaming of, Cole is prepared to dislike her. He isn’t prepared for Joy and her daughter to insinuate their way into his life—and his heart. But when tragedy strikes, he needs a Christmas miracle to fulfill the one wish he never knew he wanted.

Joy Holliday believes in miracles.

She sees hummingbirds everywhere, and believes they are tiny messengers from Heaven. Despite losing her husband four years ago, she is determined not to dwell on the past, but to look to the future. Her entire world revolves around taking care of her daughter, Piper, and ensuring she has a magical Christmas. In Glacier Creek she finds Cole, a man still smarting from the wounds of his past, determined to keep happiness at arms’ length. Can she save Christmas and show him the promise of a future with her?

My Book Review : 5 out of 5 stars!! Joy's Christmas wish is to give her five-year-old daughter the best holiday ever. So, in hopes of a winter wonderland Christmas they head to her in-laws house in Montana where they find that everyone seems to need a bit of holiday magic....

In truth, I was on the fence about this novel from its beginning, but I am sooo happy that I stuck with it! It is a heartwarming tale about overcoming the loss of a loved one and finally moving on. It was especially nice that Ms. Foley gives the readers so much info about all of the characters (main and secondary) that I feel I could see the "major plot situations" from all sides even though readers only read from Joy and Cole's POVs.

Joy and Cole are great characters! I loved learning about their backgrounds, while "seeing" how they connected and "watching" their relationship bloom. Even if things seemed rushed, they had plenty of background stuff that pulls Joy and Cole together quickly, making everything believable. What can I say other than I was charmed!

I recommend this novel to anyone wanting a sweet contemporary romance!!

P.S. – Watch out for the end as I got really teary-eyed. 😉

Author's Novel Extras :

Book Teaser(s) :
"Mommy sees hummingbirds all the time," Piper announced. "She says Daddy sends them from haven."
"What's this?" Cole asked, his gaze sharpening on Joy.
She watched the tiny bird as it hovered on the deck, and then finally flitted away. Returning to her chair, she helped herself to a pancake and two eggs, before handing several strips of bacon to Piper.
"Matt believed hummingbirds were messengers from heaven," she finally said, smiling at Piper. "He said that when you see one, you have to pay close attention because someone is trying to send you a message." ~ within Chapter 3
