What was I thinking?: Fall For Me by Melanie Marks

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 83 KB | Release Date: August 2011 | Publisher: ThunderStruck Publishing

"Fall For Me" by Melanie Marks

What was I thinking? : Well, on Amazon.com there are so many great reviews on this short story, and it was only 99 cents at the time, I thought I would give this story a try. Goodness, now I wish I didn't. =0P

My Book Summary : Zoey (Jones) has recently lost her father. Ever since then, she has needed to work as a waitress to help her mother pay some of the bills around the house. Thankfully her longtime boyfriend, Finn, best friend, Riley, father owns the restaurant she works at so it was easy enough for her to get the job in the first place. But soon the other staff members start complaining about how she is getting special treatment, which Zoey doesn't understand since Riley has always hated her, or so she thinks. Even though lately she has had a mad crush on him, but she knows she won't do anything about it.

However, when Finn confesses to have kissed another girl, he tells Zoey that she has a free pass to be able to kiss any other guy she wants. And while the free pass is tempting to use, especially when she keeps witnessing Riley's hot gaze following her around at work, she know she won't cheat on her boyfriend just to make him feel better.

Yet, when Riley makes a bet with Finn that involves Zoey, it looks like she might not have a say in the matter anymore....

My Book Review : 1.5 out of 5 stars. This book had such promise but then it faltered and was never able to recover. Terrible!! Zoey is a nice main character, but she is WAY too indecisive and she second-guesses herself constantly. I know she is in a kinda flux ever since her father died, but it was like she had no backbone at all. Or when she did have a backbone she used it against the wrong people. She was just lucky that Finn and Riley seemed to believe that she could do no wrong.

My only other major problem with this story I had was .... how old was everyone?? I know Zoey mentions that she's 17-years-old but what about everyone else?? I mean okay say they are all the same age, that's fine. But if that's true, what is a 17-year-old, Riley, doing running a restaurant?? I mean come on!! I know his father is away, but does he really trust his son that much??

So, for me, as you can tell, this story sucked! However, like I stated earlier there are a lot of people whom gave this story a great review (5 out of 5 stars at least during the time that I read it), so if you are into YA stuff this might be a story for you. It just definitely was NOT for me.

Book Teaser(s) :
"Yeah," Porcha said. "So, we figured maybe you could go in there and cheer him up."
"Me?!"
"Yeah. He likes you--a lot," Porcha said. "Take off your shirt." She started unbuttoning the crisp white blouse that we all wore as part of our restaurant's uniform, stripping me down to the tank top I wore underneath. "He likes you in your tank top."
"He does?!" I don't know what astounded me more, learning this, or the way Megan and Pocha were acting, as though we were all friends. I mean, usually they were griping at me and swiping my orders. ~ within the story as there isn't any chapters

Feasted On: Call of the Lycan Series, Book 1

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 151 KB | Release Date: April 2011 (Second Electronic Printing) | Publisher: The Raven Books

"Call of the Sea" [Call of the Lycan Series, Book 1] by Michelle M. Pillow

My Book Summary : When Ceana was younger, she saved her brother from an evil sea witch, in doing so she was cursed into immorality, turned into a mermaid, with only the reprieve of being on land during the full moon. Now, hundreds of years later and she has lost all hope of finding the one person who will be able to break her curse. So, when she saves Ian, the Prince of his werewolf clan, from the dark waters of the ocean (again and during the full moon) she expects to spend the night with him and then go back to the water when morning arrives.

However, Ian has been waiting for Ceana for as long as he can remember, even though he never knew whom she was he only remembered a bit about what she looked like. Now that he has her, he doesn't want to let her go. Yet convincing himself that what he feels for her is true (after such a short time in knowing her) is hard, especially when he has one of his brothers telling him that he shouldn't believe what she says to be true. Then there's the case of one of his previous lovers wanting to break them up and an evil sea witch who plans to do anything and everything to keep Ceana within her grasp.

My Book Review : 4.5 out of 5 stars!! This is one HOT and STEAMY fairytale!! Even though this is a quick read, it still brings you into the heart of the romance between the main characters! The characters were great and I loved Ian's brothers!

And just because I really want to say this ... I'll say in my mind, in this book there are two evil bitches instead of just one!! *hehee*

The only thing that could have been improved was the ending a bit, as it seemed a bit rushed to me. Otherwise, it's a great book!! I recommend anyone who like a quick, steamy, romance.

Book Teaser(s) :
Closing his eyes, he concentrated on his brothers, and called to them, Roark, James!
Ugh, yeah, I'm up! James' voice answered. Even though it was in his head, Ian knew his brother had been sleeping.
Argh, what is it? I'm busy, Roark complained. And both of them are gorgeous.
I need you, Ian interrupted. Now.
Are you hurt? James demanded.
No, just come quinkly. And bring a change of clothes. Ian touched Ceana's face, willing her to look at him. She didn't. But, at least she was breathing. That was something. ~ within Chapter 4

"Only Yours" [Fools Gold Series, Book 5] by Susan Mallery

My Book Summary : Just when Montana thinks, her day is going pretty well her latest service dog-in-training gets away from her and takes her on a wild goose chase, leading her right into the unwanted arms of the newest surgeon in town, Simon. After that disastrous meeting, she gets recruited to show this same man around town, in hopes that he will end up staying and help out the town even more. However, once she gets to know him better she seems to stop promoting the town to him and hangs out with him for him just being him.

For Simon's part, even though the town is nice, he's had the towns he's worked in proposition him to try to get him to stay before. Even so, when his time is up it is always time for him to move onto the next place where he'll be able do some good. However, Montana is nothing like the women he's used to. She's fun, sweet, and when he's with her, he is at times like someone he's never been before.

The question is now, when he's time is up .... will he be able to leave or even want to?

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars, this is a sweet novel. I really enjoyed reading about Montana and her dogs, Simon with his fragile heart that makes him want to be perfect, and learning new things about Montana's family. Montana and Simon make a great couple and this novel tells you why!

Also, you get to learn about another one of Montana's older siblings and her nephew makes me very curious as to what will happen with them and whom her brother will end up with. All of the side stories were really great to read about, but the one about her mother was a little drawn out and a little boring.

Overall, if you’re familiar with the series, be sure to check out this novel too!!

She paused, only to find Pia staring at her.
"What?"
"Wow." Pia grinned. "You've fallen for him."
Heat exploded on her cheek and she ducked her head. "Don't say that. I think he's interesting. It's nothing more than that."
"It's a whole lot more than that."
It was the kisses, she thought. How was she supposed to ignore them? ~ within Chapter 7

  • "Until There Was You" by Kristan Higgins
Publication Released Date: October 25, 2011

    Author's Book Description:
She’s having serious prom-night déjà vu...

Posey Osterhagen can't complain. She owns a successful architectural salvaging company, she's surrounded by her loveable, if off-center, family and she has a boyfriend—sort of. Still, something's missing. Something tall, brooding and criminally good-looking...something like Liam Murphy.

When Posey was sixteen, the bad boy of Bellsford, New Hampshire, broke her heart. But now he's back, sending Posey's traitorous schoolgirl heart into overdrive once again. She should be giving him a wide berth, but it seems fate has other ideas...

I love how this author is with her novels, she always seems to give her characters a pet of some kind, and they always live in some new/different location (usually) up north. Making a definite that I'll be reading this book!! I cannot wait!! ♥

"Dark Obsession" [Immortal Realms Series, Book 2] by Suzanne Rock

My Book Summary : After a bad split and an end to the affair that Javier and Catherine shared over two centuries ago, things have changed for each of them and they have changed as well, now Javier wants to have Catherine back into his life and earn her heart. However, it'll be a lot harder then just showing up and swooping her into his arms. They'll have to earn each others trust again, while fighting to save the lives of Catherine's king, the lives of the fey, Catherine's lover, and themselves from an unknown evil that is conspiring with the current fey king.

Will they be able to make it out alive and with their hearts still intact??

My Book Review : 2.5 out of 5 stars. I really liked Javier and Talen as characters, their roles in this novel were well thought out and they were addicting alpha males that you just love to read about. Catherine was an okay character, there were times I loved her relationship with Javier and there were times that I just wanted to smack her for some of the stupid things she decided to be true. Overall, it was a gripping and stimulating novel!! However, I think I would have liked it better and given it a higher rating if I had read the first book in this series, "Dark Deception," before this novel. So, I would definitely recommend it for those of you who have read the first novel in this series. If the author writes another novel for this series that has Talen as the main character then I'll most definitely be reading it!!

    Javier stiffened. “What the—”
Something snapped, and then the vibrations in the air ceased. Catherine lifted her head and tried to dispel the fog. “What is it?”
Javier blinked and curled his finger under her chin. His eyes softened as he studied her face. “Nothing.” The air began to shimmer around her again, then snap back into place. “Fuck.” Javier lowered his arms and stepped back. “How did the little weasel do it?” He paced around the edges of the tent, enraged. “How?”
“What?” Catherine followed him around with her eyes, confused.
“He's blocking me from leaving somehow.”
Catherine flexed her fingers as feeling returned to her limbs. Did he just try to glamour her? Anger swelled up in her chest. Of all the pompous. . . ~ within Chapter 6

"The Juliet Spell" by Douglas Rees

My Book Summary : Miranda (Miri) loves the theatre! She takes after her mother that way, who used to be an actress before she became a nurse. However, the one part her mother never got to play, but wanted to, was Juliet in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. So, when her high school's community theatre group decides on that play to perform, Miranda wants desperately to get the part of Juliet. So much so, does she want that part, that she take a 'become famous' spell and changes it into wanting to become Juliet. As she's performed these type of spells before, and not finding or getting anything out of them, she assumes this will be just like her other tries .... until it's not. Instead of what she is asking for it brings William Shakespeare's younger brother Edmund to her.

Once the confusion has been settled, he is curious about life in the reality that she is living in now, and more then will to help her out in getting the part. However, it doesn't take long for Miranda to get lost in Edmund's charm and wish for something more with him ....

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars! I was pleasantly surprised with this novel!! At first it started off slow and the characters were very predictable, leaving me thinking I knew exactly where the author was going to take this book, then all of the plot twists took off. As soon as one plot twist ended a new one began and the story gets all the more intriguing! I will say I'm not completely happy with the ending but it works out well with the plot. Plus, I really like that he took real people (the Shakespeare brothers) and put them into an unusual, and unreal, setting. At the very end of the novel I was happy to see a write up of what history has on Edmund Shakespeare/Shakeshaft, making it seem like this could have actually happened. Very Clever!!

    Book Teaser(s) :
"An interesting rehearsal, I thought," Drew said.
Bobby shrugged and fluttered one hand. "Just a read-through. Not a rehearsal. The real work starts now."
"Edmund certainly was impressive," Drew continued. "Has he played much Shakespeare?"
    "I think so," I said.
"I heard a rumor that he played Juliet," Bobby said. "Is he gay?"
    "Not hardly."
    "Just asking," Bobby said.
"My good friend, I think you are feeling the gnawing bite of jealousy," Drew said.
"You know what you can bite," Bobby replied.
"Temper, temper. I'm here for you," Drew said and gave him a fake hug.
"I'm here for coffee," Bobby said, and ordered a mocha.
"Bobby has always harbored a strange affection for Vivian," Drew said. "Well, maybe not strange. But affection, nonetheless. Or maybe not so much affection as unbridled lust." ~ within Chapter 9
"And ye, Miri. What would ye have me know?"
He looked as arrogant as Tybalt.
And I realized that I couldn't say anything. Because what I wanted to say was unsayable, especially in front of my mom. A lot of things about Wrong Girl Versus Right Girl.
"Well?" he said. "What do ye wish me to know?"
And like magic I knew what I could say.
"I've got just two words for you," I said. "Anne Hathaway." ~ within Chapter 16

"Mate of the Wolf" by Mandy Rosko

My Book Summary : While on a camping trip, to get away from her obligations, Shelley decides to go on a hike .... and wakes up laying beside a naked man, Michael, out in the woods away from her camp. Once Michael wakes up too and sees her, he decides to kidnaps her and lock her up in his cabin. Soon, even though he is her kidnapper, Shelley finds that he treats her better then anyone ever has before. But will Michael ever let her go? And if he does decide to let her go, by then will she want to?

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars. This novel's plot is creative, intriguing, and I cannot wait until I read the next novel to see where it will go. However, I'm not quite sure I liked how short it was, I think it would of been better if it was a bit longer.

    Book Teaser(s) :
    “Hey," she said.
He swallowed. Though she wasn't naked like he was, his eyes roved over her body. "Are you all right? I didn't scratch you, did I?" he asked, his voice serious.
Shelley yawned, stretched, and sat up. She giggled at his desperate expression. "You were a perfect puppy."
He jerked his head. "Puppy?" ~ within Chapter 3
