"Tempted by Her Innocent Kiss" [Pregnancy & Passion Series, Book 3] by Maya Banks

My Book Summary : Ashley's dreams of being married to her perfect man who adores her goes up in flames when she finds out that he married her because her father told him it was the only way he'd agree to the merger of their businesses. Now at a loss as to what her life has become. Ashley decides she can try changing herself into the woman worthy enough for Devon. If only it didn't hurt too much in doing so ...

... But will Devon be able to love the new and approved Ashley or will he miss the woman she use to be??

My Book Review : 2.5 out of 5 stars. The Author's book description gave me high hopes in this book, but it just fell flat for me. I mean, I liked Ashley even if she was a bit scattered and Devon did mean well in his own way, and I do believe that things could have worked out really well between them if Ashley's father didn't make the ultimatum. Nevertheless, the book has a slow start and then once everything was out in the open I just wanted to give up on this book, yet I'm happy I stuck with it because the last two chapters are really well written and wraps up this story nicely.

So, give this story a try ... you might find you like it more than I did.

My Previous Review(s) for this Author : Colters' Woman | Colters’ Wife

Book Teaser(s) :
"I have something special. It's a surprise."
"Mmm, what kind of surprise?"
"Umm, well, it was a gift from my girlfriends. They assured me no man alive would be able to resist me in it."
"Oh well, remind me to thank them."
She raised an eyebrow. ~ within Chapter 8

Feasted On: Shooting Stars by Allison Rushby

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Hardcover - Pages: 265; Paperback - Pages: 265; Kindle Edition - File Size: 1929 KB | Expected Release Date: February 28, 2012 | Publisher: Walker Children's Books | Obtained: NetGalley

"Shooting Stars" by Allison Rushby

My Book Summary : Jo (also known as Zo Jo) decided to follow her father’s example and become a young paparazzo when she was 13-years-old. Now at 16 years of age it isn't her favorite thing to do but it is a way for her to earn a lot of money that she can save for photography school she'd like to attend. Also, during her time as pap she has honed in her skill using her height and looks to her advantage, which gets her into places that she wouldn't typically be able to get into. Because of her honed skills is the reason why she recently gets a request to go undercover to get shots of Ned Hartnett while he is at a "retreat" location to get help. However, even though the job would pay her enough money to get her into the school she wants, Jo soon finds it’s hard to take pictures of Ned because of how he is so nice to her at the retreat and at a previous time when they met when she was just starting out. In addition, she soon realizes there is more to the retreat situation then she was informed about the question is will the new information change her mind about what she's doing or does she need/want the money too badly?? Especially what will she do when she suddenly starts to have feelings for Ned and things start becoming more personal and less professional between them?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars, this is an entertaining, fast-paced, fun, and dynamic novel!! It's about a 16-year-old paparazzo trying not to stay in the biz for her whole life yet she likes the money and a young star has a few issues of his own, but has always been nice to her, getting thrown into a situation that neither was prepared for. I really liked how the author handled the big twists this novel has in it!! I mean when Ned/Jake started getting suspicious about a pap being at the retreat center I pretty much cringed thinking, this novel wasn't going to turn out the way I wanted it too. However, I was satisfyingly surprised!! This novel came together better than I could have imagined!! Plus, it really helps that all of the characters in the book (not including Melissa) have truly redeemable qualities.

I enjoyed this book and I think you will too! I recommend it to anyone who likes YA romance novels with entertainment themes!

Author Book Trailer :

Book Teaser(s) :
It takes around a half hour drive in the minivan to get to the retreat. Brad and I spend most of the time in silence. I'm glad he simply points out landmarks, rather than quizzing me on why I'm headed to the loony bin.
I gulp when the large black electronic gates click shut behind the minivan and we start down the long driveway that must lead to the retreat itself. Or I'm hoping it does. Either we're headed for the retreat, or I've just joined a cult. ~ within Chapter 4
"You need to do something before you go insane."
"Too late," I moan.
"Seriously," Katrina continues, "I mean it. You need to get out of this room."
"And do what?" I roll over to look at her."It's almost eight. Scary curfew time. No going out of the doors after that, or the bogeyman will come and get me. Or Brad will come and get me. Not sure what's worse, actually."
Katrina laughs. "Me, either." ~ within Chapter 11

"Sixty Acres and a Bride" by Regina Jennings

My Book Summary : After tragedy struck their family, Rosa and her mother-in-law, (now both widows) leave Mexico and move to Texas to live on their family's ranch. However, life in Texas is very different then what Rosa is used to, so she tries her best to fit in by following what her mother-in-law states as the correct etiquette for a woman, and by working her hardest in helping out in any way she can. Nevertheless, when they get into town they find out that they owe quite a lot of back taxes on their ranch and if they don't pay the fees within the next three months then they'll loose it all. Thankfully, they have family around to help them or they would be completely lost.

One of those family members is Weston, her mother-in-law's nephew, who has had to deal with his own loss and struggles, but still feels responsible for taking care of everyone within his family. Even Rosa. But will their pasts get in the way of the budding friendship/relationship growing between them?

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars, this is a sweet historical romance novel! It’s about a woman who is trying to find her place within the new town she lives in while making sure that her mother-in-law and herself are provided for and a man who is struggling with the tragedy from his past while trying to become the man he once was again. I think Rosa and Weston really worked well as a couple. Nonetheless, I LOVED a majority of the secondary characters, especially Uncle George & Aunt Mary with their motley crew of kids, the cowboys that work for Weston, and Eliza & Jake (Weston's sister and brother-in-law)! With that being said, I guess, I could never decide how I felt about Louise (Rosa's mother-in-law) and Molly (someone who has a crush on Weston and befriends Rosa), they were both good characters who seemed to be looking out for themselves mostly. In spite of this, during the time-period that this novel is set in that's how you had to live, by putting yourself first, so I suppose I can understand why they acted the way they did.

My only problem with this novel was the indecision that Rosa kept having when Weston was involved. I mean I understand her reasoning. However, the way it stretched out and how she didn't believe what he was saying about his own feelings for parts of it, made me a bit mad at her and annoyed with her.

Other then that though, I really enjoyed this novel and hope their will be another novel that involves some of the secondary characters since I truly loved them!!

I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys inspirational historical romances!!

Author Book Interview(s) :

Book Teaser(s) :
"Oh yes, Weston told me an amusing story, but I forgot. Where did you meet?" Eliza raised her eyebrows.
Rosa followed Louise's lead and took a seat. "When I went to help Uncle George and Aunt Mary for the sheep shearing."
"Oh, you were the one at the sheep shearing!" Eliza's eyes danced with mischief. "I just wish I could have been there. Sounds like you made quite an impression."
Rosa gasped. He'd told her about the old ewe? ~ within Chapter 10
"It's not out of boredom I do this. It's out of desperation. I still don't think it's going to be enough. Mr. Bradford has been generous, but we're trying to make up for years of debt in one summer. Unless Louise knows something I don't---"
"Speak of the devil."
"What?!" Rosa looked to the gun in alarm. "Who is the devil?"

Blog Tour - Made the Grade: The Reluctant Marquess by Maggi Andersen | Guest Post, Review, & Giveaway

Today I'm turning my blog over to Maggi Andersen and she is talking about her favorite historical authors and how they've inspired her!!

Favorite Historical Romance Writers & How They've Influenced My Writing :

Hi Jessica, thanks for inviting me to your blog to talk about my favorite historical writers.

Growing up I read the Brontë’s ("Jane Eyre"), Jane Austen ("Pride and Prejudice") and all my mother’s books written by Georgette Heyer. I also read Victoria Holt for her Gothic romances, Daphne Du Maurier ("Rebecca") and Mary Stewart ("Touch Not The Cat") who was the first of the romantic suspense writers.

I’d have to say that Heyer was the greatest influence. I immersed myself in the world she created, although I preferred her adventure romances to her comedies of manners.

Heyer wrote her first novel, "The Black Moth," (a Georgian novel) when she was seventeen, in order to amuse her convalescent brother. It was published in 1921 to instant success and ninety-one years later it has never been out of print. Heyer created the new sub-genre of historical novel – ‘the Regency’ which was all about Society with a capital “S”. During the London Season, the Ton or ‘upper ten thousand’ as they were called, gathered at balls, routs and Almacks dances until they retired to their country estates for the shooting season.

The mansions, the fashions and graceful interiors set against a backdrop of Georgian society and the Napoleonic Wars are wonderful fodder for a romance. Reading her novels, I learned more about creating good conflict. Heyer’s characters are always opposites. In my Georgian romance, "The Reluctant Marquess" – a marriage of convenience story – Charity is an innocent country girl and Robert the sophisticated man about town.

Heyer’s character-driven novels are filled with physical tension, but the bedroom door remains firmly closed. In her era she had little choice. Writing now, I can throw open the bedchamber door, and it gives me the opportunity to reveal more about my characters.

Currently, my favorite authors are Eloisa James, who writes witty prose, Mary Balogh who crafts a fine story, Gaelen Foley who creates compelling characters and Julia Quinn for her great dialogue. There are others, too many to name here.

About the Author :

Maggi Andersen is an Australian author. She lives in the beautiful Southern Highlands of New South Wales with her lawyer husband, their cat and the demanding wildlife. Maggi has two degrees, a BA in English and an MA in Creative Writing. Georgette Heyer, Victoria Holt and Mary Stewart were strong influences on her writing. She began her career when her children left the nest and writes in a variety of genres. Her historical romances are set in the Georgian, Regency and Victorian era.

"The Reluctant Marquess" by Maggi Andersen

My Book Summary : After losing her parents in a carriage accident Charity travels to see her godfather, the Marquess of St Malin, whom is now her guardian. Only once she arrives to his country home she is informed that her godfather has passed away recently leaving his title and estate to his nephew, Robert. However, what was stated in her godfather's will was that Robert has to marry Charity to be able to fully inherit everything or it will all be passed onto someone else.

Even though they find each other attractive, neither wants to marry the other. Charity has been raised around parents who love each other and doesn't want to marry anyone who doesn't love her. Robert is set in his ways, and tells her that if they marry, she can have a Season in London, and then after she produces an heir Charity will stay in one of the country homes. Because of Robert's demands, Charity really doesn't want to marry Robert but since she's broke what choice does she have?

Therefore, once they marry they move to London and begin their life together. However, keeping to society's standards is harder than it looks and Charity tries to make her way through it all with little help from Robert. Will she succeed? Can she change Robert's feelings for her? Can they make turn their relationship into a loving one? Or will it all be for nothing?

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars! This is an entertaining, fast-paced, charming story about two people who are both grieving losses in their families and are dealing with new life choices that they never expected to deal with. I really enjoyed reading about the struggle Charity finds herself in when it comes to conforming to society's standards without completely loosing herself in the process. Then to reading about the relationship between Charity and Robert made me not want to put down this novel!! I was a little worried about having to read about Robert's affairs, at first making me believe they might ruin this story for me, but I was pleasantly surprised with how well the story flows along and how well the affair was written in. Making it not completely an affair at all, especially in comparison to what was going on within the London society of that time.

I especially enjoyed reading about the personal grow Charity and Robert had. Very well written!!

I recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading historical romance novels!! ♥

Author's Novel Extras : The Ideal Georgian Woman | The Elegance of the Georgian Interior

Author Book Trailer :

Book Teaser(s) :
Teaser #1
“I’ve come to ask for your help, Lady Charlesworth.”
The older woman put a pale hand to her throat. “I don’t know that I could be of any help to you, my dear. But I’ll certainly try.”
“Robert appears troubled. I’m at my wits’ end to understand why.”
“Troubled?” Tears sparkled in Lady Charlesworth’s blue eyes, which were disturbingly like her son’s. Her obvious distress sent a shaft of guilt through Charity. “It might be because he has lost his uncle of whom he was inordinately fond.” ~ within Chapter 6

Book Excerpt :

“Nefarious dealings go on next door,” Robert commented almost to himself as he and Charity crossed the footpath to the front door.

Charity’s eyes widened. “What sort of dealings?”

He felt unsure whether to tell her and wished he hadn’t spoken. “A house of ill-repute,” he finally said.

“Is that all?”

He held the door open for her to enter the vestibule, annoyed that she wasn’t impressed or shocked by such a revelation. “They are said to charge barren couples quite a lot of money to assist them in their quest for a child. With the use of special beds.”

“Oh.” Charity bit her lip. She put her head down and continued walking.

Bemused, Robert wondered how an innocent comment could stir up a veritable nest of unspoken feelings. “It mainly serves as a brothel offering no end of delights,” he added striding to catch up with her. His somewhat callous remark was an endeavor to guide their conversation in a safer direction. But it only served to make him recall the night of passion they had shared. A glance in Charity’s direction confirmed she was thinking of something similar, for her footsteps had faltered, and her eyelid’s looked heavy as she flicked her bottom lip with her tongue. He suffered a strong urge to draw her into that dark corner and kiss her. He found himself seriously considering it, and far more. Raising her skirts and...

He took her arm. “Charity?”

“Yes?”

A door opened at the end of the corridor and a servant poked his head out. “Please come in, Lord and Lady St Malin.”

Robert took off his hat and held it somewhere near his groin. “Shall we go in, my dear?”

Charity nodded her eyes a little vague.
