Made the Grade: A Widow's Heart: Mail Order Bride by Christian Michael

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: ??? KB | Release Date: 2016 | Publisher: Purely Publishing | Obtained: Amazon

"A Widow's Heart: Mail Order Bride" by Christian Michael

Author's Book Description : Carolina Hendricks thought she had her life figured out...

Boy was she ever wrong. She is hanging on by a thread in the ride of her life. Three months ago, she was happily married to her first love and best friend, now she is a widow in Boston with a baby on the way. The life that she had envisioned for herself is filled with nothing more than broken pieces. To top it all off, the man she loathes is determined to marry her and will not take no for an answer – he will stop at nothing to get her, even if he has to destroy her first.

Will she take a leap of faith into the unknown and trust God to keep her standing? Will a handsome stranger and his daughter be her salvation? She just met Matthew Jones; does she dare trust him? Can she afford not to? Will love be in store for both of them?

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars, a woman who recently lost her husband has her life upended again when a creepy man keeps trying to pursue her, she's informed that she's a couple months pregnant, and told she is running low on funds. A friend of her late husband's comes to her rescue in more ways than one, but will she be able to agree to all he is asking of her...

It’s a sweet short story about overcoming loss, finding a possible new love, and putting your faith in God. What originally hooked me was the novella's cover, as it seemed fitting. What I found when reading this was a woman set up for bad circumstances but she still finds her own way through it all. I liked it, even though it seemed a little preachy at times. I think I'd have liked it more if it included Matthew's POV too. Nevertheless, it's a good quick read.

I know that this short story isn’t on Amazon at this moment (at least not the same way I purchased it) but I do recommend it to those looking for a very quick Christian romance if you can find it somewhere else.

Book Teaser(s) :
Matthew offered her a ride back to the house and she agreed. He helped her clamber up in front of him. As she settled in more comfortably, she became very aware of the muscular chest against her back, the strong arms around her and the masculine scent now surrounding her.
Suddenly she felt a warm breath against her ear as he whispered, "I feel it too."
Carolina blushed, wishing she wasn't so easy to read. ~ within the story as there are no listed Chapters

Made the Grade: Her Stepbrothers Are Dragons by Trinity Blacio

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon: Kindle Edition - File Size: 321 KB | Expected Release Date: December 23, 2015 | Publisher: Riverdale Avenue Books | Obtained: NetGalley

"Her Stepbrothers Are Dragons" [Stepbrothers Series, Book 1] by Trinity Blacio (aka Maria MoonStar)

Author's Book Description : Holly Brewner knew she had a problem with Christmas Eve, but she thought her way of celebrating was better anyway. Twelve days of gifts and on Christmas Day, the big one. Her father and she had celebrated every year like this, but this year was going to be different.

This year she had a new stepmom and two stepbrothers, who happened to be dragons, and that changed all her plans.

Upon their arrival, her house burned down, she was shot at, and now she was staying in a cave for two days as if that were normal. On top of that, her two stepbrothers, Darius and Malcolm Longfellow, were claiming they were her mates and that they were going to marry her on Christmas Eve.

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars, Christmas is Holly’s favorite time of year but she just learned her family has gotten a little bit fuller after she reads her father’s letter informing her of his sudden marriage and her new stepbrothers. However, she’s not going to let that throw her off, even after she learns that her latest advertising clients are her stepbrothers and they are in town to find out more about her. Therefore, she finds a way to retaliate Christmas-style. Only it all seems to backfire on her once she realizes they are dragon-shifters and she is actually their mate. Will she be able to handle all the upcoming life changes coming her way or will it all be too much?

I have read most of Ms. Blacio’s Stepbrothers Series and I have to say this one surprised me with its setup. Loaded with the Christmas-y spirit (surprising after Holly’s past comes out) and a new play on the “12 Days of Christmas” revenge style, I found this novel very entertaining and enjoyed learning about Holly, Darius, and Malcolm. Nevertheless, I found their relationship a bit forced and the beginning on the slower paced side, which made it hard for me to get into it, as I would have liked. Even so, it was Holly’s feistiness and how her men win her over that hooked me into this novel.

I recommend it to those looking for a paranormal romance that has a little erotic fun included that will get you into the holiday spirit too!

"'On the fifth day of Christmas, there is supposed to be five golden rings, but I'll be damned if I buy you two five rings, but...'" Malcolm turned over the paper and there was nothing on the other side.
Darius stared at the box on the bed. "I hate to say it, but I'm afraid to touch the thing. What the hell is that smell?" he growled and slowly started to open the box, this time wishing he hadn't. "She send us shit!"
"Looks like five little balls." Malcolm groaned. "I'm with you, we should beat her butt." They stared at the sixth box as if it had grown a head. ~ within Chapter 1

Idolizing In: The Fine Art of Pretending Series, Book 2

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon: Paperback - Pages: 255; Kindle Edition - File Size: 1994 KB | Expected Release Date: April 5, 2016 | Publisher: Spencer Hill Press : Contemporary | Obtained: NetGalley

"The Natural History of Us" [The Fine Art of Pretending Series, Book 2] by Rachel Harris

Author's Book Description : One class assignment. One second chance at love. The school player is all in. Now he needs to win back the sweet commitment girl who’s forever owned his heart.

Justin Carter has a secret. He’s not the total player Fairfield Academy believes him to be. Not really. In fact, he used to be a one-woman guy…and his feelings for her never went away. Too bad he broke her heart three years ago and made sure to ruin any chance she’d ever forgive him.

Peyton Williams is a liar. She pretends to be whole, counting down the days until graduation and helping her parents at the family ranch. But the truth is, she’s done everything she can to get over Justin, and salvation is just around the corner. With graduation one short month away, she’ll soon break free from the painful memories and start her life fresh. Of course, she has to get through working with him on one last assignment first.

For Justin, nothing ever felt as right as being with Peyton, and now that fate’s given him a shot at redemption, he’s determined to make the most of it. And for Peyton…well, Justin Carter has always been her kryptonite.

My Book Review : 5 out of 5 stars!! It had always been Peyton’s plan to attend Fairfield Academy (instead of being homeschooled) once she reached her Freshman year of high school. However, coming down with an unexpected illness not long before she began the school year definitely was not in her plan. Therefore, she begins at Fairfield Academy once she is in recovery during the middle of her Freshman year, which is the same day she meets Justin (all-round Fairfield Academy hottie, player, and baseball player). They come from completely different worlds but they are drawn together and fall into a sort-of relationship quickly. Yet, when things get tough, Justin makes a plan to brake them up. Yet, though Justin’s plan works and he goes back to his player ways, he regrets it more than anything else. So, during the last month, or so, of their Senior year when Peyton and Justin get thrown together for a school project Justin plans on laying it all on the line to win Peyton back for good. But will he be too late?

This touching sweet YA romance, will leave you reeling one moment and then contentedly rooting for Justin and Peyton the next. Unexpectedly charming. There was no point when I hated either Justin or Peyton, they were such good characters, and their backstories made me feel for both of them. The depth of this novel intrigued me so much I had a tough time putting it down.

Justin and Peyton’s attraction, instant connection, and camaraderie were what won me over. Then adding in Peyton’s attitude towards Justin when their project begins gave the novel an entertaining twist that gets the reader immersed in their “relationship” from the beginning. They may look like opposites, because of their family backgrounds and where they live, but at the core of who they are, they seem to have a lot of similarities. It made me happy to see them coming together after so long being apart. Especially since, once they start to working out their issues between themselves they help each another to overcome the fears that have been holding them back from their desires and each other, which all creates a great ending.

I HIGHLY recommend this novel to those looking for a compassionate YA romance!

Book Excerpt(s) :

Dex pulled up at her place and was knocking on her door twelve minutes later. She was still in that dress but she could have been wearing a sack as far as he was concerned. He just wanted to hold her.

“Dex?” She frowned at him clearly not expecting him back although the slight tremor in her voice did betray her excitement that he had.

“I don’t think I’m going to be invited to any Nugent family BBQ’s in a hurry.”

Harper laughed, folding her arms as she settled against the door frame. “Oh no. What happened? Did you punch Chuck?”

Dex snorted. “No. But I may have...implied you were using me for sex.”

She blinked. “Implied?”

“Well...stated is probably more accurate.”

She laughed harder. “What the hell?”

“What can I say?” He shrugged. “They were pissing me off.”

She fluttered a hand over her heart and gave an exaggerated sigh. “My hero.”

His gaze fell to where her hand nestled against the roundness of her breast. She was so soft there. When Dex returned his attention to her face she was watching him closely.

“Thank you for defending my honour.”

He chuckled. “By besmirching it?”

“Meh,” she said dismissively. “Whatever works.”

They grinned at each other for long moments. “Do you need to go home?” she asked.

Dex hesitated. He should. Griff had organised for some ex-military guy who specialised in survival training to do some sessions with them. For some unknown reason these started at four in the morning—some crap about conquering mental conditioning—and tomorrow was their first session.

“Not yet. What’d you have in mind?”

She pretended to ponder for a beat or two. “How about more Star Wars?” she mused, her face a picture of innocence.

“Not quite the stars I had in mind.”

“Me neither,” she grinned and grabbed him by the front of his shirt, pulling him inside.
