"Waiting On" Wednesday: Something Like Fate

  • "Something Like Fate" by Susane Colasanti
Publication Released Date: May 4, 2010

    Book Description:
What if your soul mate is....
    your best friend's boyfriend?
Lani and Erin are bonded for life. One thing that connects them is their fascination of fate. Lani wonders how much of our lives has already been decided and how much we can actually influence. Since the Unknown can unexpectedly change our lives forever, how much can we really control?

From the minute Lani meets Jason, she can't deny the intense connection they share. It feels like she's known him forever. She's not sure if he feels it, too. But it doesn't matter. Because Jason is Erin's boyfriend. Lani is determined to ignore her feelings for Jason, no matter how powerful they are, rather than risk hurting her best friend.

What if the person who is your destiny is the one person you can't have?

It sounds like such of an intriguing book .... and yes I'm not one that usually likes boyfriend-stealing [depending on who is stealing from whom - just kidding!] but I love the whole play on fate. You never know what could happen. =0)

Feasted On: Something Like Fate by Susane Colasanti

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 358 KB | Release Date: May 2010 | Publisher: Viking

"Something Like Fate" by Susane Colasanti

My Book Summary : Lani and Erin have been best friends for years, but what really bonds them together is the car accident that they were in when they were younger. They think that they'll be best friends forever and nothing will bring them apart...

... However, fate has a way of changing things.

Fate is something that both Lani and Erin are fascinated with, so, over the past year they have been looking into ways to find out what the things going on around them mean (i.e. like palm readings, dream analyzation, etc.). Lani’s main thing is she hates the unknown, so anyway for her to be able to know what is coming along before it happens then all the better.

Everything seems fine, then little things start changing between them. Like Lani starts feeling less connected with their group of friends, so she stops hanging out with everyone except Erin. Or they start finding different things interesting and Lani starts making friends with people whom Erin wouldn’t associate with.

As things go on, Erin starts talking about her latest crush, Jason, and Lani tells her to go for it since she knows who Jason is but has never met him personally and thinks that, why not? Well after a while, Erin asks Lani and their friend Blake to have dinner with Jason and her so they can meet him. After that first meeting, Blake tells Lani he thinks there is a connection between Jason and her. Lani denies it since Blake must be seeing things, but after the first, few encounters between Jason and Lani it becomes obvious that they have a LOT in common. However, Lani would NEVER come between her best friend and her best friend’s boyfriend, so she becomes a friends with Jason but that’s all it is. At least until he brakes up with Erin ...

What will happen between Erin & Lani when Erin finds out about Lani’s relationship with Jason? Will there friendship pull trough this situation? Will Jason & Lani be able to deal with the consequences once everything comes out?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars!! This is a detailed story about friendship, how far you would go to pay back someone you feel indebted to, and the happenings of teenage romance. Lani has all the makings of a great character, she sticks up for what she believes in, she puts others way before herself, and she is good-natured all around. Plus it doesn’t hurt that she is just so sweet! For those of you who have read books by Susane Colasanti before then I HIGHLY recommend this book! It has become one of my fave books from her!

    Book Teaser(s) :
    Jason's like, "Where's Blake?"
"He's not as fascinated by kites like I am."
Jason does this contemplative nodding thing I've noticed before. Kind of like, Someone's not fascinated with kites. Wild. "So...he's at home, or...?"
    "I guess. I don't know."
Jason drinks his water. "It's cool how you're not one of those couples that has to do everything together. You know?"
Oh my god. Jason thinks Blake is my boyfriend? Where did he get that? ~ within Chapter 10
"The expected is just the beginning. The unexpected is what changes our lives." -Meredith Gray ~ within part three September-October
