As a great lover of books and bookshops, nothing gives me more pleasure than discovering a new book, whether it’s a beautiful edition on a new favourite photographer, a great novel or a rare out of print edition. There is nothing more relaxing, inspiring or stimulating than reading and losing oneself in another world. We should all take time to read and importantly, to encourage our children to love books.”

Now in its fifth year, the Books Are My Bag campaign highlights and celebrates the vital role of high street and campus bookshops. Over the last four years, a million people have worn a Books Are My Bag canvas bag in support of the campaign.

Feasted On: Fool Me Twice by Mandy Hubbard

Format: Paperback | Pages: 235 | Release Date: May 6, 2014 | Publisher: Bloomsbury USA Childrens | Obtained: Burkes Outlet

"Fool Me Twice" [If Only . . . Series, Book 1] by Mandy Hubbard (aka Amanda Grace)

Author's Book Description : Enjoy "Fool Me Twice" and the other standalone titles in Bloomsbury's contemporary If Only romance line centered around an impossible problem: you always want what you can't have!

Mackenzie and Landon were the perfect couple . . . until he dumped her and broke her heart. Fast-forward a year and they're back where they first met-Serenity Ranch and Spa, where they are once again working together for the summer. Talk about awkward.

Then, Landon takes a nasty fall and gets amnesia. Suddenly, he's stuck in the past-literally. His most recent memory is of last summer, when he and Mack were still together, so now he's calling her pet names and hanging all over her. It's the perfect chance for revenge. The plan is simple: keep Landon at arm's length, manipulate him so he's the one falling love, and then BAM, dump him. There's just one problem: Mack can't fall for Landon all over again.

The If Only romance line is all about wanting what you can't have, and Mandy Hubbard's hilarious break-up/love story is sure to captivate anyone who has ever wished for a second shot at love.

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! A year ago, Mackenzie (Mack) and Landon had an unexpected whirlwind romance while working at Serenity Ranch and Spa during their summer vacation before they had to start their senior year of high school. It was a great romance up until their senior year began and Landon broke Mackenzie’s heart by getting back together with his ex-girlfriend. So now, as high school is over and they are both working at the ranch again, Mackenzie’s biggest goal is to get revenge on Landon for hurting her so much. Then when Landon gets into an accident causing him to suffer amnesia and for him to believe they are a couple again, Mackenzie has the perfect opportunity for her revenge, which is if she can keep her heart from falling for him all over again too.

This fun, flirty, horror movie quoting novel is one that will keep you guessing from beginning to end, as Mackenzie goes about to either earn Landon’s love or finally get her revenge. Though some twists I saw coming a mile away, this novel’s charming ending blew me away. Mackenzie is one to push the limits but is still learning who she wants to be while Landon is a “good-ole boy” whose main goal is to not become just like his father, yet during their “second time around” at romance they find they have more in common with one another then they first thought. In truth, they are a perfect couple full of playful banter with tons of pranking. My only wish would be if it could be longer, and that I could’ve hated Natalie more. 😂 😋

I recommend it to those looking for a playful contemporary sweet romance that is right in between the YA and NA age groups.

My Throwback Thursday Review Meme of Mandy Hubbard's PRADA & PREJUDICE

Book Teaser(s) :
We face each other, and the smile slips from my face as I see the intensity of his look. He steps towards me, cupping his hands around the back of my neck, and pulls me to him.
I'm breathless as our lips touch for the first time in nearly a year. His are soft, warm, so perfect, that I find myself leaning into it, the world around us disappearing. It's him and me and the night and nothing more.
And then the fireworks explode above us. ~ within Chapter 21
"I would never reveal my accomplices," he says.
"Of course it's plural," Bailey mutters under her breath. "He probably had half the cowboys on this ranch filling Solo cups all morning. How did we not catch wind of this?"
I ignore Bailey's commentary and stare down Landon instead. "We'll get you back for this you know," I say.
Landon grins. "Aw, just look at your face; 'it's vacant, with a hint of sadness. Like a drunk who's lost a bet.'"
I drop my jaw. "Shaun of the Dead does not count as a classic horror movie. It's a satire at best. A total blight on zombie movies everywhere."
His grin just widens, so I shake my head and close our cabin door, not ready to deal with dumping out the water and stacking up thousands of cups. Landon is entirely too smug over there in the shade, enjoying his tea. ~ within Chapter 25

Made the Grade: Low Red Moon by Ivy Devlin

Format: Paperback | Pages: 196 | Release Date: September 2010 | Publisher: Bloomsbury Children's Books

"Low Red Moon" by Ivy Devlin (I read this as a part of Smitten With Books ARC Tours)

My Book Summary : Avery has spent most of her life living in the woods. Her parents have a piece of land with a house that was built one room at a time, everything is just so quaint and peaceful that she never had any regrets about the way she grew up. But now her life has suddenly changed because of her parent’s murder. She was there during the murder but all she can remember was seeing silver and blood. Lots and lots of blood.

She moves into her grandmother's house, a woman who she doesn't know that well anymore, and tries to understand what had happened in her life and to her parents. Not long after her parents died a new boy, named Ben, starts at her high school. He is gorgeous, but he would never be interested in her. Then on different occasions, she watches his eyes changing from brown to silver, and she doesn't know how to explain it. And even though they might not realize it from the first time he sets his eyes on her a connection between them occurs.

With that connection, they get closer, and when they do, she finds out what he really is. Will she be scared of him now, and keep away from him? Especially when more murders occur and he might be connected ...

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars! This is an unusual take on the "Little Red Riding Hood" story we all grew up with, where the bad guy definitely isn't who you think. Creative, dark, and romantic are some of the words I'd use to describe this book. In truth, I didn't like the book during the first few chapters because of how dark it was and I'm not one to like all that goriness ... but that's just me. So ... if you like a good mystery novel then I'd recommend this book for you!

Book Teaser(s) :
Teaser 1
"I heard a wolf, and I---"
"You heard a wolf? How could you hear that? You live in town."
"I'm used to hearing them, so I guess I know what to listen for," I said. "I live---lived---near your great-uncle, remember? The woods are deeper there, without so much---" I gestured toward town, toward Renee's house off in the distance.
"Right," Ben said, standing up. "I need to go."
"Oh, okay," I said, and sank back against the tree, ready to watch him go.
But he didn't leave. He just stood there. ~ within Chapter 8
