Made the Grade: Kensington Cove: Call of the Night Series, Book 1

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 1389 KB | Release Date: July 20, 2015 | Publisher: Self-Published | Obtained: Amazon.com | Originally Found Out About @ An Author Promotes

"ETHAN" [Kensington Cove: Call of the Night Series, Book 1] by April A. Luna

Author's Book Description : Lupine shifter Ethan Cotter, a member of the Shoshone clan, has a problem. And that curvaceous problem, with long, tantalizing legs has a name, Sadie Reed.

Sadie Reed, orphaned at birth, never knew her true family but a clue sends her running to Kensington Cove. The day she arrives, a driving mishap lands her in the arms of one hot, sexy, leather-clad biker, Ethan Cotter.

The wolf in him stirred the moment they met. But Ethan’s worried his secret will scare her off. But Sadie has secrets of her own, secrets that will turn Kensington Cove into a battle zone for supremacy.

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars, a woman who was abandoned to the foster system when she was a baby finds out her grandfather left her a ranch in Texas and decides to move in. The night that she arrives her whole life changes and her eyes become opened to another world she never thought would be real. However, will this new world accept her for herself or require her to become something more?

I liked the buildup for this novella it's exciting and intense. Plus, it helps that the reader falls for Ethan just as quickly Sadie does! Their fast chemistry is what I liked about this novella the most.

Yet, because this is the first novella, I found myself a bit confused about the way the plotline flows. As most of the information about who Sadie is doesn't come until the very end, then it just ends so you’re supposed to just accept everything, which made that a little hard to read.

Nevertheless, I DO recommend this novella to those who are looking for a fast-paced paranormal romance.

Blog Tour - Idolizing In: Huckleberry Spring by Jennifer Beckstrand | Review

Today I'm turning my blog over to Jennifer Beckstrand, with a review of her latest novel "Huckleberry Spring," which is the FORTH novel in her The Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill Series!!

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Paperback - Pages: 352; Kindle Edition - File Size: 1128 KB | Release Date: January 27, 2015 | Publisher: Kensington : Zebra Books | Obtained: Pump Up Your Book / NetGalley

"Huckleberry Spring" [The Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill Series, Book 4] by Jennifer Beckstrand

Author's Book Description : Ever since the Helmuths’ grandson, Ben, abruptly broke his engagement and moved to Florida, Emma Nelson has kept busy tending her vegetable garden and raising award-winning pumpkins. She can put her heartache aside to help Ben’s mammi with her own pumpkin patch. At least until Ben shows up to lend support to his ailing dawdi...

Gardening side by side with pretty, nurturing Emma is a sweet kind of torture for Ben. She could have her pick of suitors who can offer what he can’t, and he cares too much to burden her with his secret. Leaving once more is the only option. Yet Emma’s courage is daring him to accept the grace that flourishes here, and the love that has been calling him back to Huckleberry Hill.

“The much-loved matchmaker Anna Helmuth is back! Beckstrand is an amazing, talented author who gives the over-used matchmaking trope a fresh twist. The characters are sweet and caring, and the storyline runs smoothly.” - RT Book Reviews, 4.5 Stars

My Book Review : 5 out of 5 stars!! Anna & Felty are match making again! Only this time Felty is being pulled through the ringer just to keep his grandson living with them. Poor thing. Together they try to get Ben & Emma back together again but because of one big secret and a bunch of lies, it might be a harder job than Anna originally planned. But she won't give up without a fight ... and Felty's wise words of course.

I really enjoyed this dramatically touching novel. Anna's quirky ways were all fun to read about but I also liked how sweet Ben was and how determined Emma is to see everything through. All of it put my emotions through the ringer by laughing one moment to getting mopey the next. In addition, even though I guessed that the main reason for Ben & Emma being apart was because of something bad to do with Ben I never would have guessed the truth. With one twist after another, I didn't want it to end. However, alas, it had to end and I LOVED the way Ben & Emma's romance wrapped up!! They are just so sweet together and more passionate then I'm use to reading in Amish romances that it made me pleasantly surprised.

Other than the fact I really disliked Adam (Emma's "tester boyfriend") and Emma's mother, I enjoyed this novel tremendously! Therefore, I HIGHLY recommend this novel and series to those who like Amish Christian romances!

Book Teaser(s) :
"Now, Felty," Mammi said, the scold rising in her voice, "there will be no talk of getting better."
Ben raised his eyebrows. Mammi certainly had a peculiar way of nursing her husband back to health. But Ben couldn't argue with it. Mammi and Dawdi had been together for over sixty years. Mammi knew better how to care for Dawdi than anyone. If Dawdi needed words of discouragement, who was Ben to question her methods.
Mammi tried to read the tiny directions on the pill bottle label. "Stuff and nonsense. Where are my glasses?" She handed the bottle back to him. "What does it say, dear?"
"Take one every six to eight hours as needed for pain."
Ben handed Mammi one pill, feeling guilty for conspiring against Dawdi. Mammi filled a glass with water and took it to Dawdi.
Ben tried to smooth things over with Dawdi. "The doctor said you'll heal faster if you take something for the pain. It helps reduce the inflammation."
Mammi snapped her head around to look at Ben and stopped in her tracks. "He did say that, didn't he?" She reversed direction, away from Dawdi's chair. "Never mind, then."
Felty held out his hand with a smug look on his half-covered face. "Come here, Annie Banannie. I'll have my pill now."
Ben pressed his lips tightly together to keep from chuckling. Had Mammi tricked Dawdi into taking a pill, or had she really changed her mind? Maybe she was way more clever than Ben could ever hope to be.
Sixty years of marriage was no small thing. ~ within Chapter 5

About the Author :

I grew up with a steady diet of William Shakespeare and Jane Austen. After all that literary immersion, I naturally decided to get a degree in mathematics, which came in handy when one of my six children needed help with homework. After my fourth daughter was born, I started writing. By juggling diaper changes, soccer games, music lessons, laundry, and two more children, I finished my first manuscript—a Western—in just under fourteen years.

I have always been fascinated by the Amish way of life and now write Inspirational Amish Romance. I am drawn to the strong faith of the Plain people and admire the importance they put on enduring family ties. I have visited and studied Amish communities in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin where I met with a bishop and a minister as well as several Amish mamms, dats, and children. It has always impressed me at what salt-of-the-earth people they are. My interactions with these kind people have been some of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I have a dear Amish friend with whom I correspond in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She helps me keep my facts straight and gives me inspiration for my stories.

My goal is to write uplifting, inspiring stories with happy endings and hopeful messages. If my books make readers want to give themselves a big hug or jump up and down for joy, I’ve done my job. I am a member of Romance Writers of America and American Christian Fiction Writers and am represented by Mary Sue Seymour of The Seymour Agency.

There are three Amish romances in the Forever After in Apple Lake Series (Summerside/Guideposts). "Kate’s Song," "Rebecca’s Rose," and "Miriam’s Quilt" are all now available.

I have six Amish Roamish buggymances in the works with Kensington Books. The first and second books, "Huckleberry Hill" and "Huckleberry Summer," are now available in stores and online. The Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill is set in northern Wisconsin Amish country.

The series, The Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill, is about an elderly Amish couple who try to find suitable mates for their grandchildren. What could be more fun than throwing two young people together to see if sparks ignite? No one would ever suspect two octogenarian Amish folks of mischief.

Romantic Times gave "Huckleberry Hill" 4 1/2 stars and chose "Huckleberry Summer" as a TOP PICK.

I have four daughters, two sons, three sons-in-law, and two adorable grandsons. I live in the foothills of the Wasatch Front with my husband and one son still left at home.

Blog Tour - Feasted On: Not Always a Saint by Mary Jo Putney | Review

Today I'm turning my blog over to Mary Jo Putney, with a review of her latest novel "Not Always a Saint," which is the SEVENTH novel in The Lost Lords Series!! [Blog Tour will run on August 24 - September 18, 2015]

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Paperback - Pages: 352; Kindle Edition - File Size: 430 KB; Audiobook - Unabridged | Release Date: August 25, 2015 | Publisher: Kensington : Zebra Books | Obtained: Pump Up Your Book / NetGalley

"Not Always a Saint" [The Lost Lords Series, Book 7] by Mary Jo Putney (aka M. J. Putney)

Author's Book Description : “Adventure, passion and pure reading pleasure!” – Jo Beverley

After the death of his sweetheart when he was at university, Daniel Herbert buried his grief in medical studies and his passion for healing. Viewed as a saint by those who know him, in his own mind he never quite manages to live up to his own high standards.

Most men would be thrilled to learn they’ve inherited a title and estate from a distant relative, but Daniel is appalled because the burden of wealth will interfere with his medical calling. Warily he accepts that he must enter society and seek a wife—a sensible woman who can oversee his properties, leaving him free to continue his work. He does not expect to become intoxicated by a woman called the Black Widow, who is as mysterious as she is shockingly beautiful…

Jessie Kelham’s looks have always been a curse. Now alone with a young daughter and a perilous secret, she is in need of protection. But dangerously attractive Daniel Herbert is not the kind of husband she has in mind. If he recognizes her, the demons of her past will surely erupt. Yet they cannot keep apart—and soon they are drawn into a union that may bring joy—or shattering danger…

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! Jezebel (Jessie/Lisbet) has had a tough life. Growing up as the daughter of a very strict vicar then to become married to an abuser and now to have her current husband pass away leaving her to safeguard her daughter by any means necessary, like finding another man to marry who can give her security and protection sooner then she would like too. Daniel is a perfect choice. He’s the type of man she would like to marry, if only he was a bit older, but with her “shady past” can she be the right woman for him?

While overall a mysterious novel full of intrigue, it was the characters’ banter and the circumstances that brought Jessie and Daniel together that held my interest! Set during the Regency era in England, it deals with abusive husbands/fathers, bigamy, treacherous nephews, an unwanted husband search, and more than enough other things to keep its readers on their toes. In addition, I enjoyed that while this novel is a part of a series, it brings the some previous characters in so seamlessly while building for the following novel (#8) and still coming off as a standalone so I could understand everything that was going on. Very well written and the ending was VERY surprising!

As for the main characters, Jessie and Daniel, they are a matched set. On paper, they were everything both didn’t want for in a partner. Yet, as they get to know one another, better they find that they are the perfect match! I don’t think I’ve ever stated this for a character, but I found Daniel to be pure, and while he constantly says that he is no saint, I will admit he is quite the gentleman. He’s one man I’d recommend anyone to fall for! Together Daniel and Jessie make a very good team. I’d LOVE to read more about them!

I recommend this novel to those who are fans of the series and/or to those looking for an intense Regency romance!

Refusing to back down, he asked, "Do you dislike me? I've thought there was a certain harmony of mind as well as a powerful attraction between us, but perhaps that's wishful thinking on my part."
She bit her lip. She was a good liar when necessary, but she didn't want to lie to this man. "You're not wrong, but attraction isn't a sound basis for a marriage."
"Isn't it a start?" he asked quizzically. "Shouldn't we at least try to discover if we'd suit?"
"Didn't anyone ever tell you it's ungentlemanly to ask a lady why she doesn't accept you?" Jessie said with sudden exasperation. "A simple 'no' should suffice!"
His mouth curved wryly. "As with the rule about morning calls, I'm aware of that, but I don't choose to comply. This is too important. You're too important." ~ within Chapter 11

About the Author :

Mary Jo Putney was born in Upstate New York with a reading addiction, a condition for which there is no known cure. After earning degrees in English Literature and Industrial Design at Syracuse University, she did various forms of design work in California and England before inertia took over in Baltimore, Maryland, where she has lived very comfortably ever since.

While becoming a novelist was her ultimate fantasy, it never occurred to her that writing was an achievable goal until she acquired a computer for other purposes. When the realization hit that a computer was the ultimate writing tool, she charged merrily into her first book with an ignorance that illustrates the adage that fools rush in where angels fear to tread.

Fortune sometimes favors the foolish and her first book sold quickly, thereby changing her life forever, in most ways for the better. (“But why didn’t anyone tell me that writing would change the way one reads?”) Like a lemming over a cliff, she gave up her freelance graphic design business to become a full-time writer as soon as possible.

Since 1987, Ms. Putney has published over forty books and counting. Her stories are noted for psychological depth and unusual subject matter such as alcoholism, death and dying, and domestic abuse. She has made all of the national bestseller lists including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USAToday, and Publishers Weekly. Five of her books have been named among the year’s top five romances by The Library Journal, while three were listed in the Top Ten Romances of the year by Booklist, published by the American Library Association.

A ten-time finalist for the Romance Writers of America RITA, she has won RITAs for "Dancing on the Wind" and "The Rake and the Reformer" and is on the RWA Honor Roll for bestselling authors. She has also been awarded two Romantic Times Career Achievement Awards, four NJRW Golden Leaf awards, plus the NJRW career achievement award for historical romance. In 2013 she was awarded the Romance Writers of America Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award.

Though most of her books have been historical romances, she has also published three contemporary romances, several paranormal historicals with strong fantasy elements, a young adult historical fantasy trilogy, and numerous novellas and short stories. She is currently writing the New York Times list bestselling Lost Lords historical romance series for Kensington.

Ms. Putney lives near Baltimore, Maryland with her nearest and dearest, both two and four footed. She says that not least among the blessings of a full-time writing career is that one almost never has to wear pantyhose.

Mary Jo Putney is the recipient of the 2013 RWA Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award

"To Win Her Love"
[Players Series, Book 1] by Mackenzie Crowne

Author's Book Description :
To win the game, they’ll have to risk losing their hearts…

When a bizarre child custody stipulation pits popular sports blogger Gracie Gable against football superstar Jake Malone, losing the battle for her twin nieces isn't the only thing Gracie has to worry about. Forced to live for three months under the same roof as the sexy tight end, will she fall prey to his flirtatious pursuit? Or worse, will the skeletons in her closet destroy her chance for the love and family she so desperately wants?

Neglected by his parents as a boy, Jake doesn’t believe in happily ever after. Yet living with Gracie and the twins might be enough to change his mind—and his womanizing ways. But when the press unearths a scandal from Gracie’s past, will he lose the one woman he was ready to open his heart to?

My Book Review :
4 out of 5 stars!! After Gracie learns that her brother-in-law prematurely passes away, she is all ready to take on the job of raising her six-year-old twin nieces. Yet, at the reading of the will she learns that she has to live with another relative (Jake -- who just happens to be the extremely hot football player she had an online argument with recently) for three months to earn the guardianship. However, with Gracie wanting to keep her life out of the spotlight, Jake’s life already in the spotlight, and dealing with this unique situation will she be able to keep her life on track and her heart in one piece at the same time? Or is this the beginning of something new for them all?

This energetic and enticing novel reels you in with its unique “family dynamic,” while capturing your interest with the mystery of Gracie’s paternity and Gracie & Jake growing relationship. I was riveted while laughing the whole way through. [READ MY FULL REVIEW & THREE EXTRA TEASERS]

Sex, Secrets, and Happily Ever Afters is now on pre-sale:...
Posted by Deb Julienne on Monday, February 16, 2015

About the Author :

While some say truth is stranger than fiction, Deb Julienne’s experience runs more along the lines of a slap-stick comedy. When life tosses you lemons the only thing to do is to turn it into Limoncello.

After writing for almost 20 years, she’s about to be an overnight success. Her life, like her comedies, has been one big fat romantic comedy…or errors. It’s not a matter of “if” it can go wrong, but how bad when it does happen, and make no mistake…it will. Survival with a sense of humor is the goal.

Joking aside, Deb’s dream of being published came true with the release of her first book, "Sex, Lies and Beauty Aids," which was released March 2014. Since then she’s added to more to her collection of tales. "Sex, Secrets, & Happily Ever Afters," and "A Splash of Romance" in the "Crashing into Love Anthology."

As a long time member of both Romance Writers of America (RWA) and her local RWA Chapter, the Sacramento Valley Roses, she fills the hours she’s not writing romantic comedy and romantic suspense with her day job at a Silicon Valley Corporation, playing in the kitchen concocting her award-winning jams, jellies, preserves, and sauces (with alcohol of course).

Born and raised in San Jose, California, she now resides in the Tahoe National Forest Basin, her own little bit of heaven on Earth, with her husband of 34 years, their three sons and one daughter, and two very precocious grand kids, with a third on the way.

Author's Book Description :
It’s where everyone remembers your name—and your mistakes. But the quaint Catskills town of Marsden has a way of inspiring the unlikeliest reunions, flipping the script on the best laid plans, and opening even the most stubborn hearts…

Jordan Leigh’s always had a reputation for being bad news. So she figured it was only a matter of time before she got into serious trouble. But serving house arrest in her hometown of Marsden is truly cruel and unusual punishment. Plus she’s under police officer Will Nash’s up-close-and-all-too-personal supervision…which could make things worse—or more fun.

To make amends, Jordan throws herself into making nice with her neighbors, taking in stray animals, and helping teenage girls get back on track. But what she really wants is to get on the right track with Will. To do that, she’ll have to show him she’s grown up. And if that means making him break his own rules and face down his own fears, she’s up for the challenge …

About the Author :

Hi and thanks for visiting my blog! I’m glad you stopped by! Hoping to have new posts up frequently, but…well…you know how it is. But I’ll do my best!

Important professional stuff: I’ve been a writer all my life, even—gasp!—getting paid for it, sometimes even—double gasp!—in full-time jobs. I’ve also worked as an editor and proofreader, which makes my novels, if nothing else, very clean. Of course, in publishing terms that means very few grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors, but it is tempting to legally change my name to Paul’s Grandfather. (Obscure reference clarification here.)

After I quit my last full-time job about five years ago to stay home and raise my son, my husband said I should “knock out a few dozen romance novels over a couple of weekends” to get filthy rich. Hah! He’s a funny guy. In a misguided kind of way. Still, the idea of getting back to writing fiction after many years in the nonfiction biz was intriguing, so I joined NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and jumped right in. Overnight success took three and a half years.

And of course I’ve got no guarantee of that success thing, overnight or not. My first contemporary romance, "By Design," was published (e-book) by Kensington in May and my second, "Unscripted, in August," and my third, "Down on Love," in November. My fourth, a followup to "Down on Love," will be published in July.

Important personal stuff: I live in a small village in western New York with my husband, son, and a very sweet senior-citizen basement kitteh who loves nothing more than going outside, where she sits on the front walk and wonders why she begged to go outside. I’d post a picture, but she always looks stoned. Too much ‘nip, perhaps? When I’m not hard at work on another novel (or, rather, when I should be hard at work on another novel), I can usually be found frittering away stupid amounts of time on Facebook.

Check in with me there (“Jayne Denker Author”) or on Twitter (@JDenkerAuthor). You can also drop me an e-mail (Jayne.Denker@gmail.com) anytime—I’d love to hear from you.

For once, she’s going to do what makes her happy. She just has to figure out what happy looks like. She never expects it to look like her surly new boss…

Feasted On: The Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill Series, Book 3

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Paperback - Pages: 352; Kindle Edition - File Size: ?? | Expected Release Date: October 7, 2014 | Publisher: Kensington : Zebra Books | Obtained: NetGalley

"Huckleberry Christmas" [The Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill Series, Book 3] by Jennifer Beckstrand

Author's Book Description : Young widow Beth Hostetler has come to Huckleberry Hill to start afresh and make her own way without the interference of her late husband’s family. In addition to a feisty toddler, Beth has dresses to sew, cows to milk, and great-grandparents to care for. She doesn’t have the time or the inclination to entertain thoughts of a husband, even if every widower and bachelor in Wisconsin seeks her hand. Her first marriage to a harsh, demanding man was hard enough. She is perfectly happy being alone, not answering to anyone but God. Tyler Yoder is no different than the rest. With his infuriating sense of duty, he sees Beth as a woman in need of rescuing. His offer of marriage doesn’t tempt her in the least, but his handsome face and kind heart just might. Will this be the Christmas that she finally finds love?

After having been burned by love once, Tyler Yoder has given up on the whole idea of romance. He simply wants a godly wife with whom he can share companionship and the load of daily living. Beth Hostetler comes along at just the right time. She’s a hard worker, an excellent mother, and a beauty, to boot. And, with a son to raise, she needs a man’s protection. But when Beth spurns Tyler’s marriage proposal and offers to help him find a proper Amish wife, Tyler realizes where his affections really lie. Will he be able to convince Beth that love is at the heart of his persistence? And will she accept his heart for Christmas?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars, two Amish grandparents are up to more matrimony scheming by trying to bring together their granddaughter Beth--a widow with a toddler son who plans to never remarry--and Tyler. This charming romance deals with serious issues yet is still lighthearted throughout with Anna and Felty Helmuth's anecdotes and Beth's humor.

For it being the first novel in this series that I've read, it kept me updated and involved without feeling lost, which was helpful. In addition to liking the plot, Beth & Tyler's unique romance was a delight to read about!! Together they were a fun couple that kept each other on their toes while building a sweet relationship between them. It was also entertaining to read about Toby (Beth's son) with his new words, mannerisms, and cute "rebellious" ways.

Plus, I loved Anna and Felty's buildup for "Huckleberry Spring," I can't wait to see what Anna will talk Felty into doing for that novel. *hahaa*

I recommend this novel and series to anyone who enjoys Amish/Christian romances!

Book Teaser(s) :
"I'm not a homeless puppy."
Puzzlement flooded his expression. "I never said you were."
"You want to help everybody because you are a naturally nice person, but I refuse to be one of your projects. I don't need rescuing. Like a puppy."
"I'm not fond of dogs."
"I'm not helpless. You don't have to bring bratwurst to make me feel better."
"I thought Felty might like it."
"We all liked it. You're so thoughtful."
He scratched his head. "You're not upset about Amos?"
"Nae."
His lips twitched. "You are annoyed because I'm nice to you?"
Beth rolled her eyes. "Well, when you put it that way, I sound like a crazy woman."
Tyler chuckled softly. "Jah, you do."
She growled and smacked him on the shoulder with what was left of her sunflower.
He laughed louder. ~ within Chapter 9
"She's here," Mamm said. "Time to put my plan into action."
"Don't even think about it, Mamm."
She pulled a pen from the drawer. "Don't worry. Beth won't suspect a thing." She scribbled on her palm. "Will she think I'm odd if I want to shake hands?" She opened her hand.
Tyler is a good catch, she had written.
Tyler chuckled. "You are odd, Mamm. No escaping that." ~ within Chapter 17

Feasted On: The Midnight Trilogy, Book 1

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 337 KB | Release Date: April 2008 | Publisher: Kensington Brava Books

"Hotter After Midnight" [The Midnight Trilogy, Book 1] by Cynthia Eden

My Book Summary : Colin is a detective, but also shifter who grew up in foster care making it so he doesn't know much about the Other world, and even less about his kind. Emily isn't your 'typical therapist' she is what other people like to call the "Monster Doctor," meaning her clients are mostly (if not all) part of the Other world (shifters, vampires, etc), but she screens them first so she only takes those she believes are "nice." In addition, even though Emily is a human, she is also an empath, making her able to read the minds of all of those in the Other world and pinpoint what they are before they tell her.

Recently, Colin has gotten a case that deals with a series of killings happening in the area, and the main suspect happens to be a shifter. Colin's chief brings on Emily help the case, since her ability would really help them find the killer faster, hopefully.

However, Colin has always kept those around him in the blind about what he is, he gets very edgy about having the good doc get to close to him. Emily has a few secrets of her own she would like to keep hidden. But when some of the killings hit closer to home some things from her past just won't stay buried, and she turns to Colin bringing them closer then they could have dreamed. But can to people fall in love, overcome their differences, and hunt the bad guy before the bad guy has a chance to rip them apart forever?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars!! I think this one might just be my favorite Cynthia Eden book that I've read of hers thus far!! The characters were fresh, the book was inviting --drawing me in so much so that I didn't want to put it down-- and it keeps you guessing about who the killer might me the whole way through!! It's a sexy and thrilling read that will instantly make you addicted to this series!

Book Teaser(s) :
"Brooks is the one who handles the reporters." He jerked his thumb toward his partner who was just now leaving the staging area. "He's got the pretty-boy face that always looks good on camera."
Well, she thought Colin would look pretty good on camera too. Emily tensed. Damn. They really needed to talk, to clear the air.
But now was hardly the time and---
"Dr. Drake!"
Emily turned at Darla's call. Found the woman making a beeline straight for her. Jake tagged along in her wake.
Darla paused two feet away from her. A smug smile curved her lips. "I've got a few questions for you."
Colin stepped forward. "She's done talking about the case."
"Umm, well, it's not about the case. Not really."
At her Cheshire cat look, Emily got a very, very bad feeling in her gut. "What do you want to know?" ~ within Chapter 9
