Blog Tour - The Education of a Black Heroine by Piper Huguley | Guest Post, Spreading the Word, & Kindle Fire HD/Gift Card Giveaway

What Is It? :
The When Black Women Fall promo features romances in the contemporary, historical, paranormal, science fiction and fantasy, and erotica genres. The two requirements for inclusion are that the heroine must be of African/African-American descent, and she must fall in love: same race, interracial, LGBT, aliens, cyborg—doesn’t matter to us, as long as it’s a black woman falling in love! For the week leading up to Valentine’s Day during Black History month, Heartspell Media is spreading the word about “When Black Women Fall” — a week-long promo featuring romances with African-American heroines.

When is it? :
February 8-14, 2016. The week leading up to Valentine’s Day during Black History month.

The Education of a Black Heroine by Piper Huguley

When "The Preacher’s Promise" was first put forward to the public in the quarterfinal phase of the final Amazon Breakthrough Contest, some people began to question the history of my story in their reviews. They had never known of the possibility of an educated Black woman who traveled on her own to the southern states to teach. But I knew that this ignorance developed out of the lies that history tells us. We hear a lot about the brave white Christians who went to the southern states right after the Civil War, but we hear nothing of the Black people who went to help. This is one of the reasons why I wrote "The Preacher’s Promise," so that the historical lie of omission could be exposed. My heroine, Amanda Stewart, was based on the real-life exploits of two Black women, Mary Patterson and Mary Peake.

Mary Jane Patterson is the first black woman who is credited with having earned a B.A. degree from Oberlin College, one of a handful of schools before the Civil War who were willing to give Black people a chance at higher education. She graduated from Oberlin in 1862. A historian of Oberlin College, Robert Fletcher, says that she taught school in Philadelphia, and later became a principal of a preparatory high school for Black students in Washington.

My heroine, Amanda, arrives in Milford, Georgia after the Civil War, just after her graduation in 1866 from Oberlin. Some real-life African American teachers were willing to take their lives and liberty into their own hands to teach the still enslaved populations how to read and write before the war ended. One of these brave people was Mary Peake.

Born of a free mother and an Englishman, Peake started a school in her own home state of Virginia on the grounds of what is now Hampton University. She started the school in 1861 after her own home had been burned by Confederate forces. Finding herself displaced, she taught the enslaved people who had gathered at Fort Monroe. She had taught out of her home for years and now brought those skills to this new endeavor with purpose. The population of the school went from six to fifty within a matter of days. Remarkably, Peake was also working as a married woman, having married Thomas Peake, one of the formerly enslaved.

Unfortunately, the next year, Peake caught tuberculosis and died. Her endeavor may not have lasted long, but Peake’s school planted the seed of an idea that spread and motivated many others to leave the comfort of their lives and homes to help the enslaved. So the provenance for an Amanda Stewart is certainly there. And the American Missionary Society, who built up several schools for the enslaved in the South, documented many more men and women of color who came south to each the recently enslaved. Novels are written about the uncommon and the exceptional. We may not know these Marys by name, but they were certainly exceptional. Their accomplishments should be remembered, and my Amanda Stewart is my way of commemorating these women who paved the way for many.

To experience Amanda's story yourself, pick your copy of "The Preacher's Promise" today! You can find this and other romance novels featuring black heroines on the When Black Women Fall promo tour at whenblackwomenfall.com.

Blog Tour - Sweet Southern Bad Boy by Michele Summers | Casting Call Spotlight, Spreading the Word, & Novel Giveaway

Today I'm showing off Michele Summers' "Sweet Southern Bad Boy," which is the THIRD novel in her Harmony Homecomings Series!!

ALSO -- Be sure to check out Rafflecopter at the bottom of this post to be able to sign up for this blog stop's GIVEAWAY(s)!! [Blog Tour & Giveaway will run from November 28 - December 24, 2016]

"Sweet Southern Bad Boy" is now casting actors for the main couple :

Looking for dynamic couple with off the charts chemistry and sizzling sex appeal and ability to banter, laugh and cry with each other. Need to believe in the elusive love at first sight and living happily ever after.

"Sweet Southern Bad Boy" Casting Call :

Casting call for one strong, hunky, athletic, alpha-male with a bit of an attitude and a little bit of crank on the side, but beneath the gruff exterior, a really good guy. All actors apply between 29 and 34 years of age, 6’ to 6’-3’’ tall, dark longish hair, dark eyes, cool facial scuff, and totally handsome. No scrawny pip-squeaks need apply. No shaved heads, dreadlocks or Mohawks and no Duck Dynasty look-a-likes. Authentic southern drawl a real plus along with a sexy smoldering look and a piratical smile.

Calling all pretty, fresh-faced gals with long dark hair and dark eyes, approximately 5’-4” to 5-6” in height with a sunny smile and disposition to match. Between the ages of 26 and 30; size 10 with womanly curves. Nice but no push-over, strong enough to wrangle three wild children under the age of 6. No shrinking violets, or high-maintenance, spoiled princesses need apply. Executing piercing wolf whistle could seal the deal.

"Sweet Southern Bad Boy"
[Harmony Homecomings Series, Book 3] by Michele Summers

Author's Book Description :
Katie McKnight loves her job. Not really. But Katie loves her dad and this job means everything to him. Which is why she's scouting for the perfect house to film a mini-series…and that house happens to be in Harmony, NC. Now if only Katie can convince the grouchy, disheveled but totally hunky owner his home is perfect for the next teen craze, she’ll be in business.

Bestselling author, Vance Kerner has lost his mind along with his loafers and the notes to his next novel, under dirty dishes in his kitchen. Since babysitting his brother’s three kids, he hasn’t found a moments peace. So when California Katie knocks on his door, Vance doesn’t ask questions. He simply yanks her inside and puts her in charge.

Katie agrees to babysit, if Vance allows the film crew access to his property. Vance agrees to keep an open mind as long as he gets the peace he needs to write.

But having Katie underfoot is anything but peaceful. And Vance is finding less and less time to write and more and more time to watch Katie weave a lovely spell on all the Kerners...especially him.

Can these two opposites find a common ground and the love they both deserve?

Spreading the Word: Bachelors of Battle Creek Series, Book 2

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Paperback - Pages: 418; Kindle Edition - File Size: 1681 KB | Expected Release Date: May 5, 2015 | Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca | Obtained: NetGalley

"Twice a Texas Bride" [Bachelors of Battle Creek Series, Book 2] by Linda Broday

Authors' Book Description : Scars of the past run deep inside former saloon owner Rand Sinclair, leaving jagged pain and two certainties. He’ll never fall in love again. Never marry.

He finally has the ranch and land he’s dreamed of owning and that’s enough. But when he finds a woman and little boy hiding in one of his outbuildings in the bitter cold, he can’t turn his back. He offers her a safe haven and the warmth of his fire.

Callie Quinn is on the run from a killer outlaw who has vowed to see her dead and take the boy. Slowly, Rand uncovers her secrets and realizes the only way to keep her safe is to push all his chips to the center of the table.

He risks everything…his name…and his heart…for the woman who’s awakened a fierce hunger for love.

Locked in a desperate battle to rid themselves of the outlaw’s special brand of terror, Rand reaches deep inside for every weapon in his arsenal.

Whoever wanted to harm her would have to go through him.

…And he’d go through hell for her.

My Book Review : DNF. Okay, while I LOVED "Texas Mail Order Bride" I struggled with this novel. It wasn't because I didn't like the characters or the setting because I tremendously did. It was because once I put the book down to deal with everyday life, I never felt the urge to get back to it and read more. I wasn't hooked and so I gave up around 30% of the way into it.

Nevertheless, because I LOVED "Texas Mail Order Bride" (Book 1 of this series) so much I still do recommend this novel to those who have read book 1, since you get updated all a bunch of previous characters and submerged into new ones ... you may just be hooked more than I was.

Good luck!

Blog Tour - Sweet Southern Bad Boy by Michele Summers | Interview, Spreading the Word, & Novel Giveaway

Today I'm showing off Michele Summers' "Sweet Southern Bad Boy," which is her recently released novel, the THIRD novel in her Harmony Homecomings Series, and the novel I recently interviewed her about!

ALSO -- Be sure to check out the Gleam contest at the bottom of this post to be able to sign up for this blog tour's GIVEAWAY!! [Promotion for this post and its Giveaway will run from December 5 - 26, 2016]

My Q&A with Michele Summers :

Jess : What sparked the idea for "Sweet Southern Bad Boy?"

Michele : I think it first started with the kids, because I’d been dealing a lot with my own active kids and my sister’s five boys. And I thought it’d be funny to see how two people with no children handle the situation.

Jess : Which of your characters would you invite or not invite to dinner?

Michele : I’d most likely invite Bertie from "Find My Way Home" to dinner because we’re both interior designers and collector of great shoes; we’d have lots to talk about. And I like her eclectic style…reminds me a lot of me! 😉 And I’d probably not invite Lucy from "Not So New In Town" because she’d get me in tons of trouble eating junk food! I wouldn’t be able to resist Cheetos and M&M’s, some of her favorites.

Jess : Which comes first for me the character’s story or the idea for the novel?

Michele : Hmmm, I think character’s story comes first. Some wacky idea will hit me about a personality quirk or a “what if” scenario and I’ll run with it and build a story around that character.

Jess : Are there any differences and/or similarities between Vance from "Sweet Southern Bad Boy" and Brogan from "Not So New In Town?"

Michele : Both are very competitive and athletic. Both have strong personalities and both played high school football together and remained close friends. Brogan was a nicer more approachable guy in high school whereas Vance was a bit on the wild side. And Brogan figured out a way to make a living with his healthy lifestyle while Vance became a writer to right some wrongs from his past.

Jess : Favorite part to write in a novel...

Michele : Hands down: the dialogue. I love to write the banter between the Hero and the Heroine or even between the best friends. If it were up to me, my books would be nothing but running dialogue with no reference to setting, time or place.

Jess : Favorite secondary characters...

Michele : My top two favorite secondary characters are Dottie Duncan, the meddling wealthy owner of the Toot-N-Tell, because she’s always butting in everyone’s business with her no-nonsense approach. She tells it like it is. And then I’d have to say Clancy Perry, the redneck tree trimmer who’s always trying to horn in and steal the heroines out from under the heroes’ noses. He was just so darn fun to write.

Jess : How many books have you written?

Michele : I’ve written four books and have to say SSBB is my all-time favorite. I still think about Vance and Katie. I loved their chemistry and the situation of taking care of those kids. They tugged at my heartstrings and made me laugh at the same time.

Jess : And other projects in the works?

Michele : Yes, I’m working on a fun series set in Miami where I lived for over 20 years. It’s centered around three brothers, all athletes in different stages of their careers and how they find love in women who are basically their complete opposites.

Jess : Favorite aspect of the holidays:

Michele : My favorite part of the holidays is time off. I love the few days before and after when everything is already prepared…or not, where we all sit around and enjoy each other’s company. Time off from work and obligations. It’s the only time I actually slow down and rest.

Jess : Cartoon character that represents your personal philosophy?

Michele : Okay, I’m not sure if this counts, but I’d have to say Belle from Beauty and the Beast, because it’s my favorite Disney fairy tale and because she was smart and did the right thing. And she ended up with the prince in the end! Perfect.

Jess : If someone wrote a biography about me, what would the title be?

Michele : "Finding Humor…amongst the crazies!"

Author's Book Description : Harboring secrets has jeopardized Bree Winthrop's spot on the US Ski Team. She's lost her focus and drive to win. Her only hope to remain on the team is Riley “Ry” Guyette–the one man she doesn't trust. Bree must let go of the past if she wants to keep her dreams alive.

Ry knows what it's like to crash and burn after a ski accident sidelined him from competition two years ago. But his coach wants Ry to help a teammate regain her focus and competitive edge. Too bad he hasn't spoken to Bree in six years–six very long years.

Bree and Ry face a mountain of struggles. Will they be able to learn that forgiveness isn't the steepest slope they must conquer?

Race of Love is a stand alone novella that's part of Melissa Foster's The Remingtons Kindle Worlds. Characters from Foster's Slope of Love appear in Race of Love.

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars!! Six years ago, one stupid moment ruined any possible friendship between Bree and Ry (Riley). Now, years later, they have grown up from who they use to be but life has dealt them a hard hands and Ry comes back to assist Bree so she can get back into the sport they both love. Yet, what is plaguing Bree isn’t a secret she can really share without ruining the lives of those around her too. Ry does find a way though and as he starts to help, their lives change again but will this new change be beneficial to them both or hurt them more?

"The Cat Who Ate His Tail"
by Jacqueline Simon Gunn

Author's Book Description :
Have you ever wondered what your pets are thinking?

Inspired by true events, this heartwarming story is told from the perspective of Sneakers, a curious cat with serious emotional baggage. Neglected and ultimately abandoned by his original owner, he compensates for the trauma by overeating and making droll observations about the crazy love life of his new owner… who also happens to be a psychologist.

Through paying attention to her work, the loving home she provides and watching her own trials and tribulations, Sneakers learns so much more about life, love and the ways of the world. Both their lives take unexpected turns, both suffer for their own inability to see their inherent worth. But just maybe they can help each other learn the most important lesson of all before it’s too late: If you let it, love can heal even the deepest wounds.

Sometimes you must be willing to take that second chance.

"The Bad Boy's Baby" [Hope Springs Series, Book 3] by Cindi Madsen

Author's Book Description : There are certain words that have always described Cam Brantley: Town bad boy. Soldier. Protector. But never, ever dad. Until he returns home from his latest military tour to discover the girl he had one smoking-hot night with is now mom to the adorable two-year-old Zoey. Who has his eyes.

Plenty of words could describe Emma Walker these days. Mom, dutiful granddaughter, budding designer, the town’s golden child. But when her longtime crush Cam Brantley comes back to town, she knows the perfect word to describe herself: screwed.

Cam and Emma are both shocked to discover he truly wants Zoey in his life. But Cam’s not sure he’s ready to be a dad, and Emma can’t gamble her daughter on maybes. As the long-simmering heat between Cam and Emma reaches a boiling point, he’ll have to work past his demons in order to be the man both girls need.

Daddy duty might be his toughest mission yet…

Series Order:
Book #1 "Second Chance Ranch"
Book #2 "Crazy for the Competition"
Book #3 "The Bad Boy's Baby"

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars! Around two years ago feeling a bit sorry for herself, Emma dolled up, went for drinks at the local bar, and “picked up” her longtime crush the local “bad boy” Cameron (Cam) only a few hours before he was being sent out to deploy again. During their evening together, Emma ended up pregnant and because of a few different circumstances, she never informed Cam about him becoming a father. Now Cam is back in town for good, with plans to bring his brother and his dream of the Mountain Ridge to life. Though he is unprepared for both Emma and his little daughter coming into his life, Cam soon falls for them both. However, as they both deal with their new circumstances and grow closer as a family their pasts and future plans come between them. Can they be able to compromise for the sake of each other or will everything fall apart?

While not quite what I expected, I was happy to escape back into Hope Springs to catch up on old and new characters. This contemporary romance has a cleverness that charmed me. Along with a spunkiness in the form of Quinn (from “Crazy for the Competition”) that made me laugh a LOT in this novel. Nevertheless, though I loved the characters (Cam, Emma, Zoey, and all the previous main characters especially) by 80% of the way through for this novel I started giving up on it as once the “big drama” hit the pace seemed to slow down giving me trouble keeping my interest. While I’m happy I pushed myself to stick with this novel, as the ending is quite sweet and I liked Cam with Emma, it was hard to do so at times.

As a family Cam, Emma, and Zoey were as cute as can be. Minus his darker attitude towards himself (at times), Cam is one hot dreamboat. I liked Emma because I could see myself in her, a natural introvert desperately trying to “break out of her shell.” Overtime Cam and Emma find they have more in common than they ever expected, from their childhood upbringings to how they like to escape into the wilderness as much as possible. They work well together and seeing their relationship grow delighted me. It was easy to root for them. I hope to hear more about them if this series progresses.

Overall, I recommend this novel and series to those who are fans of Ms. Madsen. Also, to those looking for a sweet contemporary romance!

"But what about pizza?" Emma asked Zoey.
Zoey held up the box of mac and cheese. "Cheese."
"Pizza has cheese, and you love pizza, remember?" She loved to pick off the cheese and leave the tomato sauce and crust, anyway.
Zoey's eyebrows drew together and she held the box of mac and cheese higher. Nothing made you feel more in control of life than losing an argument with a two-year-old. ~ within Chapter 6
The second Quinn hung up, she let loose a squeal. "Oh my gosh! I just got the best news! A pipe burst and it flooded the park!"
Emma drew her eyebrows together. "I never took you for someone who'd take joy in damaged parks."
Quinn grimaced. "Yeah, that came out wrong. ..." ~ within Chapter 17

Gaby Triana's Wake the Hollow - YA Retelling of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow":

Forget the ghosts, Mica. It’s real, live people you should fear.

Tragedy has brought Micaela Burgos back to her hometown of Sleepy Hollow. It’s been six years since she chose to live with her father in Miami instead of her eccentric mother. And now her mother is dead.

This town will suck you in and not let go.

Sleepy Hollow may be famous for its fabled headless horseman, but the town is real. So are its prejudices and hatred, targeting Mica’s family as outsiders. But ghostly voices carry on the wind, whispering that her mother’s death was based on hate…not an accident at all. With the help of two very different guys—who pull at her heart in very different ways—Micaela must awaken the hidden secret of Sleepy Hollow…before she meets her mother’s fate.

Find the answers.

Unless, of course, the answers find you first.

Gaby's Answer to What YA Retelling She'd Like to See in 100 Words or Less:

As a huge fan of haunted house stories, I’d love to see a retelling of the Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. First published in 1959, this was and still is, one of the finest examples of psychological terror ever known in the horror genre, and because I love stories that scare you with what’s not there rather than what is, I would love to see this interpreted for a teen audience. Are we caught up in Eleanor’s mind, or is a real poltergeist haunting her? “Whatever walked there, walked alone.” Yeah, definitely this one.

Vivi Barnes, author of Olivia Twisted, which is a YA Retelling of Oliver Twist:

Tossed from foster home to foster home, Olivia’s seen a lot in her sixteen years. She’s hardened, sure, though mostly just wants to fly under the radar until graduation. But her natural ability with computers catches the eye of Z, a mysterious guy at her new school. Soon, Z has brought Liv into his team of hacker elite―break into a few bank accounts, and voila, he drives a motorcycle. Follow his lead, and Olivia might even be able to escape from her oppressive foster parents. As Olivia and Z grow closer, though, so does the watchful eye of Bill Sykes, Z’s boss. And he’s got bigger plans for Liv…

Thanks to Z, Olivia’s about to get twisted.

Olivia Decoded:

This isn’t my Jack, who once looked at me like I was his world. The guy who’s occupied the better part of my mind for eight months.

This is Z, criminal hacker with a twisted agenda and an arsenal full of anger.

I’ve spent the past year trying to get my life on track. New school. New friends. New attitude. But old flames die hard, and one look at Jack—the hacker who enlisted me into his life and his hacking ring, stole my heart, and then left me—and every memory, every moment, every feeling comes rushing back. But Jack’s not the only one who’s resurfaced in my life. And if I can’t break through Z’s defenses and reach the old Jack, someone will get hurt…or worse.

Vivi's Answer to What YA Retelling She'd Like to See in 100 Words or Less:

I first saw the movie To Kill A Mockingbird when I was a teenager, and I believe it played a large part in opening my eyes to the realities and consequences of racism. Considering the state of the world today, I would love to see the story retold as a young adult novel with a Muslim-American Tom Robinson. I think capturing the attention of young adults through literature is one of the most effective ways we can change the world for the better.

Cindi Madsen's All the Broken Pieces - YA Retelling of Frankenstein:

What if your life wasn’t your own?

Liv comes out of a coma with no memory of her past and two distinct, warring voices inside her head. Nothing, not even her reflection, seems familiar. As she stumbles through her junior year, the voices get louder, insisting she please the popular group while simultaneously despising them. But when Liv starts hanging around with Spencer, whose own mysterious past also has him on the fringe, life feels complete for the first time in, well, as long as she can remember.

Liv knows the details of the car accident that put her in the coma, but as the voices invade her dreams, and her dreams start feeling like memories, she and Spencer seek out answers. Yet the deeper they dig, the less things make sense. Can Liv rebuild the pieces of her broken past, when it means questioning not just who she is, but what she is?

Cindi's Answer to What YA Retelling She'd Like to See in 100 Words or Less:

Hmm. What retelling would I love to see? I’m a big fan of the classics, and twists on them. I’ll read just about any Pride & Prejudice retelling. Beauty and the Beast is also a favorite. But I’d love to see a modern retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo. I think that there could be a lot of possibilities and different ways to go, but I think one with a lot of tension and romance and kissing (my fave), would be amazing! And I just found out Entangled Teen recently acquired a Count of Monte Cristo retelling called STING, by Cindy Wilson! *makes grabby hands*

Jenny Trout's Such Sweet Sorrow - YA Retelling of Romeo & Juliet and Hamlet:

Never was there a tale of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo…

But true love never dies. Though they’re parted by the veil between the world of mortals and the land of the dead, Romeo believes he can restore Juliet to life, but he’ll have to travel to the underworld with a thoroughly infuriating guide.
Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, may not have inherited his father’s crown, but the murdered king left his son a much more important responsibility—a portal to the Afterjord, where the souls of the dead reside. When the determined Romeo asks for help traversing the treacherous Afterjord, Hamlet sees an opportunity for adventure and the chance to avenge his father’s death.

In an underworld filled with leviathan monsters, ghoulish shades, fire giants, and fierce Valkyrie warriors, Hamlet and Romeo must battle their way through jealousy, despair, and their darkest fears to rescue the fair damsel. Yet finding Juliet is only the beginning, and the Afterjord doesn’t surrender souls without a price…

A. L. Davroe's Nexis - YA Retelling of "Cinderella":

In the domed city of Evanescence, appearance is everything. A Natural Born amongst genetically-altered Aristocrats, all Ella ever wanted was to be like everyone else. Augmented, sparkling, and perfect. Then…the crash. Devastated by her father’s death and struggling with her new physical limitations, Ella is terrified to learn she is not just alone, but little more than a prisoner.

Her only escape is to lose herself in Nexis, the hugely popular virtual reality game her father created. In Nexis she meets Guster, a senior player who guides Ella through the strange and compelling new world she now inhabits. He offers Ella guidance, friendship…and something more. Something that allows her to forget about the “real” world, and makes her feel whole again.

A.L.'s Answer to What YA Retelling She'd Like to See in 100 Words or Less:

I’m a huge fan of retellings of stories that are a little less well know. Even better? Gender swapped stories! That’s a field rich for the harvest and I don’t know why we’re not all jumping on that boat. Although, I hear Channing Tatum is going to be in a gender-swapped version of Splash. That’s gonna be something to see…

Kendra C. Highley's Finding Perfect - YA Retelling of Pygmalion in reverse:

This Entangled Teen Crush book contains swoony situations, adult language, and a perfectly imperfect hero with an eye for calculus and a heart of gold.

How far will you go for perfection?

For “Perfect Paige” Westfeld, today is “D” Day. As in, she just got one on her calculus test. With her dreams of Stanford, her reputation, and her parents’ expectations at stake, Paige needs to find a way to save face before everything she’s worked for goes up in flames.

Ben Franklin (yes, he’s related) is from the wrong side of town, with the wrong clothes and the wrong kind of life. He also knows an opportunity when he sees one, and he’ll be happy to tutor Paige—if she makes him into the kind of guy her best friend, the hottest girl in school, will date.

It’s the perfect arrangement. And Paige is determined not even the inconvenient—and utterly imperfect—attraction simmering between her and Ben will ruin it…

Kendra's Answer to What YA Retelling She'd Like to See in 100 Words or Less:

I’d love the see Samson and Delilah told as an epic love story between two enemies, in a dystopian where magic is real (think An Ember in the Ashes). Samson, an eighteen-year- old with unusual strength has been helping his country’s army fight off an invasion by Delilah’s countrymen. Delilah, a renowned beauty, is blackmailed into starting a relationship with Samson to spy for her country in exchange from saving her sister from slavers. Against all odds, they fall in love, but Delilah still has to betray Samson. The twist would be that she frees him from his captors in the end, and they escape together.

Alyxandra Harvey's Red - YA Retelling of "Little Red Riding Hood":

Bad girls burn hot…

Red is the color of Kia Alcott’s hair.

It’s her temper, which blazes hot and always gets Kia into way too much trouble. And it’s the color of fire. Fires that Kia can start…just by thinking about them.

When her latest “episode” gets her kicked out of school, Kia is shipped off to her grandmother, who works for the wealthy Blackwoods. It’s an estate shrouded in secrets, surrounded by rules, and presided over by a family that is far from normal…including the gorgeous and insolent Ethan Blackwood.

Ethan knows far more about the dangers of the forest surrounding the estate than Kia can ever imagine. For this forest has teeth, and Ethan is charged with protecting the outside world from its vicious mysteries.

But inside, even the most vibrant shade of red doesn’t stand a chance against the dark secrets of the Blackwood family…

Emily McKay's How Willa Got Her Groove Back - YA Retelling of Pride & Prejudice:

This Entangled Teen Crush book contains an unbelievably hot bad boy, an unbelievably famous actress, and all the drama that comes with adding both to your family. Oh, and a forbidden flirtation with a soon-to-be stepbrother

When your life feels like a bad movie, rewrite the script.

When Willa Schofer’s father comes home from a business trip with an über-famous new fiancée, Willa’s senior year blows up in paparazzi-fueled flames. Overnight, she has a new house, a new car, and a new soon-to-be stepbrother—the unbelievably hot, unbelievably arrogant, Finn McCain. Thank god he’s constantly pushing her buttons, or she might do something irresponsible. Like fall for the jerk.

Just when Willa’s decided to avoid him for, oh, ever, Finn lands in the center of her senior project team. Seriously—how hard is it to shake a guy? At least her work on the project snagged the attention of the (second) hottest guy in school. He might only be into her because of her famous stepmom, and he’s not quite as exciting as a certain annoying housemate, but at least she’s allowed to crush on the guy.

Because crushing on your annoying stepbrother? So not cool.
