Made the Grade: Cinderella Series, Book 1

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 643 KB | Release Date: March 15, 2012 | Publisher: Self-Published | Obtained: Amazon.com

"The Wronged Princess" [Cinderella Series, Book 1] by Kae Elle Wheeler (aka Kathy L. Wheeler)

My Book Summary : Cinderella had gone to the ball and had the night of her life. Then she comes home and deals with her reality: a truly evil step mother (Hilda) who for some unknown reason has always hated her enough to try to find ways to accidentally kill her (not that Cinderella ever knew), and two step sisters (Pricilla & Esmeralda) who never ceased to find ways to make her life more miserable (which their mother encouraged, otherwise their lives would have been bad too). Nevertheless, when she hears about Prince Charming's goal of trying her glass slipper on every fair maiden in the kingdom, she isn't happy with the (stupid) idea but she is hopeful. That is until Esmeralda tries on the slipper and IT FITS!! Now it seems that her life is truly going to come to an end unless some new and old friends, a conspiring Queen, a determined Prince, and one enchanting Fairy Godmother can find a way to make everything better...

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars! This is a fun take on a fairytale classic with a bit of an entertaining mix of the Rodgers and Hammerstein's version and Disney's "Cinderella III: A Twist in Time" thrown in. I liked the wit, humor, and sweet romance that made up this novel. The relationship that grows between Cinderella, Pricilla, and Esmeralda is really, what made me enjoy this novel as much as I did.

My only wish is that Prince Charming wasn't portrayed as being so dense. Also, I'm curious what really happened to the evil step mother, since in the novel it was insinuated that Pricilla did something to her but the result never really panned out, yet the novel doesn't tell you why or where is she now, so hopefully it's in the other novels in this series.

I recommend this novel to those who are true lovers of fairytales and like happily-ever-afters no matter the cost!

Author's Book Trailer :

Book Teaser(s) :
Queen Thomasine almost rue the day she’d had a son.
Non, that was not quite right, for she loved her son dearly. But she’d be hard pressed to refrain from admitting that the comfort of a daughter would have served quite pleasant. Someone with whom she could embroider, or titter on about the failings of men. She sighed. It would have made for excellent bonding experiences.
Regrettably, that had not been her destiny.
She shook away the fantasies and turned to the misfortune at hand. For days now, seven to be precise, Prince had moped about the palace, hoping against hope, his lovely young woman would somehow reappear. Drop into his life the same way she’d dropped out.
Thomasine had deliberately let a full sennight of his nonsense persist before finally summoning him to set forth she and her twin’s underhanded scheme. ’Twas not without some guilt, however.
She quashed the feelings ruthlessly.
“Have you decided what it is you are to do now, mon fils? You have spent this week past doing naught but brooding and sulking about.”
His gaping shock was most telling.
Mamán,” he said sharply—deeply offended.
She bit back a searing retort, irritated that young men dared think a mother could not possibly understand such a dilemma. Bah, what was it with today’s children? Did they believe their parents had sprung from the womb grown? Not experienced love and infatuations in their youth? That they had had a youth? ~ within Chapter 2

Made the Grade: Dark Series, Book 20

Format: Hardcover | Pages: 361 | Release Date: September 2009 | Publisher: Berkley

"Dark Slayer" [Dark Series, Book 20] by Christine Feehan

My Book Summary : For centuries Ivory has been on her own. Ever since she was a young girl and the prince's eldest son bought her from her now worst enemy (Xavier), then when he realized she wouldn’t go with him willingly he got her chopped and ripped up into pieces of herself and left too die. To top that off she found out that once her five brothers found what happened to her instead of coming to her defense they choose to side with Xavier against the Carpathian people. However, during the years when she was repairing herself, Ivory befriended a wolf pack which she now admits is her only family and she is leery of anyone else. Soon though Ivory’s world is about to change on the night she runs across her lifemate.

Razvan is a Dragonseeker---one of the oldest of the Carpathian lineages---he is also a falsely accused criminal and is Ivory’s lifemate. Since the age of fourteen Razvan has been held hostage by Xavier (who is also Razvan’s grandfather), who has used him over the centuries taking bits of Razvan away from himself so Xavier could have more control, and so Razvan could protect the ones he love the only way he could. However, the reason everyone has branded Razvan a criminal is because his family (his sister and daughters) and the other Carpathian people weren’t aware of Xavier’s possession of him, controlling his body to do gruesome things from murdering to raping to inflicting pain to those he held most dear.

When Ivory finds Razvan he is weak from just escaping Xavier and hopes to “meet the sun” so he’ll be out of Xavier’s clutches once and for all. However, Ivory can’t let Razvan die before her, so she takes him home and tends to him. Once Razvan is better, Ivory helps him get Xavier’s claim off him, but when the Carpathian people find them together will they be forgiving? And will Ivory and Razvan be able to get their revenge on the one person/thing that has destroyed both of their lives?

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars! This is a sweet novel about two people who have been given the worst out of life but they come together (and fall in love) in hope to concur one of the greatest enemy's to themselves as well as the Carpathian people. I loved the fact of Ivory and her wolf pack!! Even if it was against the rules of their society, it is the best thing I have read in a long time!! I so wish I could have a wolf pack of my own! *hehee* Plus, I think I like this book out of the series all the more because of the "girl-power" aspect of it, where the other two (yes I know I haven't read them all) dealt more with woman who were kind of dependent on their lifemates, Razvan and Ivory were more equals then anything!!

So ... if you've read some of this series ... then I definitely recommend reading this one too! Especially since it includes a great secondary plots of people that you have read in the other books.

My hope is that when Ivory and Razvan have kids at least one of the will be a life mate to the current prince's kids. *hehee*

Book Teaser(s) :
"Are you ready for this? They have been attended to by others, Vikirnoff and Nicolas, Natalya sometimes, but they will be ravenous for us. Feeding is part of the ritual of sealing the pack together. They're like my children."
Razvan knew she needed the distraction to feel in control again. Emotions were difficult for her. His heart fluttered in his chest and he found himself smiling at her. Happy. Just to be alive. Just to be with her on the crisp, cold evening, with the moon spilling light over her blue-black hair, framing her face so that she looked as angelic as she did sexy.
"I am certain they will be happy to be out of the ground after all these weeks," he agreed. "Let us do this and bring our family back together." ~ within Chapter 12

Feasted On: Hot Shot by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 636 KB | Release Date: January 2010 | Publisher: eBooks

"Hot Shot" by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

My Book Summary : Susannah (Suzie or Suze) grew up with her grandmother after her mother left her there. The only problem was is that her grandmother was crazy, throwing strict rules at her that no one would ever be able to live up to, so when she got into trouble her usual punishment was to be locked into a stuffy closet where the dusty fur coats were held. Which always made her more skittish and scared then really helped her, making her get into trouble for other things that her grandmother might not have liked. So, when a guy finds her one day inside the closet, takes her out of there and her grandmother's house, tells her that he is her mother's husband and that she should call him father, she feels like he is her knight-in-shining-armor and plans to be the best daughter she could be. Over the years though being the best daughter has made her father love her more then his biological child, has made her younger sister resent her, and made her take up the role of coordinating the mansion and her father's schedule for him when her mother doesn't make the effort to do so.

Now, at the age of 25, she is planning on getting married to a guy that her father approves of and is feeling more trapped in her life (and her perfect daughter role) more then ever. Therefore, when Sam steps into her life trying to get a meeting with her father about his brilliant idea he'd like to sell him, she starts to realize that there might be a better life out there for her if only she would let it. However, when she decides to follow her heart, she finds herself cut off from the only family she's known and the only parent that has ever loved her. Then when she gets more involved in Sam and his partner's brilliant idea she realizes she's a women in a man's world, and she is going to have to fight her way to be seen as more then Sam's girl, especially when there are people who seem to want to knock her down every step of the way.

My Book Review : 4.5 out of 5 stars! Okay .... originally this book, in it's hardcover/paperback formats, was written in 1991 so most of the book is based in the 70's and 80's which is when women were just coming into the work force (more so then before) and taking on bigger roles that others might not have been ready for them to do. Plus, this book (based on what the author writes in her 'author's note') is based prominently on fiction, about the IBM's and Apple's of that time period (how they all got started -- etc.) while set in her non-fiction world. It kept me captivated! In addition, I LOVED the relationship Susannah had with Sam, Yank, & Mitch!! However, I will admit throughout this book there are twists that I really didn't expect to see, and I wish I had some tissues with me when they did come around.

My only problem with the book was that even though I loved the relationships that were written between all of the characters, I think there should have been a bit more about Susannah and the man she is with towards the end. Since the story gets them together but you really don't get to see their relationship bloom more so then what is provided already in the book. *shrug* But that could be just me.

Anyway .... I recommend this book for those who like fiction and non-fiction type of books mixed together, along with those whom have read the other books of Susan Elizabeth Phillips before since this one is one of her first books, and is GREAT right along with the rest!!

Book Teaser(s) :
She leaned into him just like always and moaned softly against his mouth. Reluctantly, he drew away.
She sighed and looked over at the boxes of parts. "You're going to put me to work now, aren't you?"
"I promise you can take a coffee break sometime next week."
She laughed, and then, together, they settled down to begin the laborious process of assembling forty single-board computers.
The task involved "stuffing" every one of the printed circuit boards by hand. ~ within Chapter 11
"Be honest with me," he said, as he stretched out his legs. "Do you think I'm stuffy?"
"You? Perish the thought."
"I'm not joking. I want to know."
"You're serious?"
He nodded.
"Yes. You're definitely stuffy."
"Well, thank you. Thank you so very much." He glared at her, a picture of offended dignity. ~ within Chapter 21

"Violca's Dragon" [The Dragon Ruby Series, Book 1] by Leilani Love

Author's Book Description : Violca knows life can change instantly. Her parents died suddenly, leaving her to raise four younger sisters and keep them safe ~ even from the golden-eyed stranger.

Chase knows the Grey sisters possibly hold the key to his fate. He is determined to to get close, protect them and bring them to his Dragon King. What Violca doesn't know is that once a dragon decides he wants something, there is no stopping him from getting it.

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars! Five sisters find out there is more to this world then what they knew when others come into their lives to try to protect them from those who would like to use them for evil gain, in the process they learn more about their parents and their pasts then they originally knew.

This unique novel takes the typical paranormal romance situations and throws them into a contemporary setting. Typically, I would like the idea if the romance works out but in this case, it just made me feel bad for Scott (one of the secondary characters who is a panther shifter). One of the things that made it difficult to flow along with the novel was its transitioning between its scenes and between its characters POVs throughout the novel as it wasn't as smooth as I'm used too in other novels. Otherwise, I thought that it has great potential since the plot is engaging and entertaining while making sure the novel never dragged.

As for the main characters, I thought that Violca (V) and Chase were good together once their romance got going. Plus, I enjoyed how close Chase became with her sisters; it was really sweet to read about and it got the reader more involved with the novel too. In truth because of how Chase acts it made me root for them being together even more. I just wish that their mating was more "planned out" in a way that made it not seem so fumbled, but I guess that happens sometimes just like everyday life.

I am definitely interested to see where this series will go, who will end up with who, and if/how the prophecy will come true.

I recommend this novel to those who like paranormal suspenseful romances.

Book Teaser(s) :
“Where’s Eryk?”
Scott looks up at him and by the look on his face, Chase can tell he is upset. “He is taking Kati home.” Taking a big swig of his beer, he shakes his head. “Man, I don’t know what happened, but I think I fucked up?”
Chase frowns. “How the hell could you have fucked up? Did you tell Violca something you shouldn’t have?”
Scott shakes his head. “No, when Kati was here, I almost punched Eryk for touching her.”
Chase starts to smile until he sees Scott’s face and hears him growl, his eyes narrowing on him. “I don’t understand, he’s not the type of kid to take advantage of a girl. Why would you care if he was touching her? What happened?”
Scott stares at his beer, his thumb stroking the top. “I don’t know, she smells like honeysuckle and I...”
His voice trails off and Chase thinks about it for a second before smiling at him. “Did you imprint on our very young witch?”
Scott growls, shaking his head. The idea had obviously never entered his mind. Chase tries not to smile as he sees his friend thinking about what he just said. Suddenly Scott growls, “Shit.” The sudden outburst causes Chase to laugh.
“What the fuck am I supposed to do now? She is too young to claim and if Viktor finds out…”
Chase shakes his head and walks to the kitchen. “I think you need another beer and I am going to join you.” Grabbing two beers from the fridge, he opens them both before walking back into the living room. Handing one to Scott, he smiles. “Think this is karma for you teasing me about getting to close to the older sister?”
Scott takes a drink of his new beer. “Viktor is going to kill us both.” ~ within Chapter 17

Leilani Love is a proud mother of two very active boys. A military wife she loves getting to meet new people wherever they move. She loves to read books crossing many genres. Her love affair with dragons started when she was young and one day dreams of having her own dragon and black panther.

Book Excerpt :

Opening the door, she steps onto the patio and smiles at Eryk. Her eyes are drawn to some movement behind him and she looks up to see Chase walking in from the woods. He is wearing his pants low on his hips and no shirt. Her breath catches as she notices his rippling muscles and the light traces of a six pack on his abs. When her eyes finally roam up to his face, she feels her cheeks heat up. His self-satisfied smile tells her he saw her checking him out.

Eryk clears his throat. “Good morning.”

Violca swears she must be beet red. She smiles at Eryk. “Morning, I just wanted to invite you guys in for eggs and sausage.”

Scott peaks his head out of the tent. “Did you say sausage?”

“Yep, do you want to join us?”

“Hell yeah,” Scott replies, crawling out from the tent.

Violca’s eyes widen. Scott is also in only a pair of jeans, no shirt, and Violca smiles thinking Linda and the girls would be mad to find out that she is the first to see him with his shirt off. She hears a growl and turns to see Chase watching her. “Be careful, I think there is an animal close by,” she says, wondering where that sound came from. “It shouldn’t be too much longer.”

Made the Grade: Children of the Undying Series, Book 1

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Kindle Edition - File Size: 242 KB | Expected Release Date: November 29, 2011 | Publisher: Samhain Publishing | Obtained: Moira Rogers

"Demon Bait" [Children of the Undying Series, Book 1] by Moira Rogers (aka Bree & Donna)

My Book Summary : The world has changed ... the apocalypse has happened (years ago) and now demons roam the earth and most people (humans) blame it on those people who have summoner blood (magic in their blood).

Marcelle (Marci) just happens to be a summoner who has been trying to hide herself by living among humans in different underground compounds throughout most of her life. Soon she is found out during the compound's lockdown by a man who is visiting, Gabe, and says that he can protect her from the demons. Therefore, during their time together in lockdown Gabe tries to convince Marci to leave the place she's at to go to another compound that would allow her to live without fear. Only there is a catch... since he is a halfblood demon himself she would have to be marked by Gabe, which would make her vulnerable to him for the duration of their escape from the compound their in to the one they are heading to. However, will Marci be able to trust him enough to be marked by him and put her life in his hands??

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars. Adventurous, seductive, and sweet are the three words I would choose to describe this unique apocalyptic romance book!! Marci has grown up believing she has to hide who she is, even though her magic is just simmering under her skin wanting to get out. Gabe is fierce and sweet, and just the type who you'd love to be seduced by!! I could not get enough of this book!!

My only problem with this book was what happened once they were found. I mean I understand the necessity for what happened but it seemed to mess up the flow of the book for me, I guess. Otherwise, I like how the book did wrap up at the end!

I recommend this to whoever is already fans of Moira Rogers and to those who like adventurous paranormal romance books!!

Gabe sighed. “How would volunteering the information have helped? I could have let you out into the unprotected hallways and...what? Pried open another door so everyone on the other side would know I wasn’t human?”
“And ruin how hard you worked to get me stuck with you in the first place, right?”
His jaw clenched, and he looked away.
Trip didn’t. “If there’s something going on...”
“There’s not,” Gabe snapped. ~ within Chapter 5

Author's Book Description : When Jessa Talbot’s boss offered her a promotion, she agreed—no questions asked. Her family needed the money, but fighting the attraction she feels for her brooding employer is tough. Worse, she instantly bonds with his infant son she’s caring for. But this is a temporary solution and she can’t get attached to either of them.

Made the Grade: Perfect Chemistry Novel, Book 1

Format: Paperback | Pages: 357 | Release Date: 2009 | Publisher: Walker & Company

"Perfect Chemistry" [Perfect Chemistry Novel, Book 1] by Simone Elkeles

My Book Summary : To those who don't know her Brittany is her high school's golden girl. She has blond hair, high class clothes, rich parents, a hot ride, she's dating the football star, and she seems just about perfect. However, her home life is completely different. Yes, her parents are still rich, but with an older sister with a disability her parents (especially her mother) put more pressure on her to make sure she acts/looks perfect so that nobody has the ability to start talking bad about them. Because of this facade she has been putting on for others outside her house, it has made it so she doesn't let many people (if any) get close to her.

Alejandro (Alex) lives for the day since he is never sure if he'll live to see the next. When he was six-years-old his father died in front of him, and he swore he wasn't going to be anything like his father, but now 12 years later he's in the same gang (Latino Blood) as his father was. He doesn't want to be a part of Latino Blood, but to make sure he protects his family he is and he know that the only way out would to be beaten to death by the members or killed by someone outside of his gang, and neither look like interesting options. Plus, nothing is more important to him then his family.

Now it's their senior year in high school and they get paired up together as Chemistry partners, despite their objections to their teacher. Working together at first is hard since they both have their own opinions of each other. However, as time passes they find that despite their lifestyles they have more in common then they originally thought.

Soon they start to find being together comes with a price of friends, family, and the loyalty to those they originally believed were there for them. Thankfully their best friend still have their backs up until the end, but how will they be able to deal with a town that is set out against them? And when Alex finds out more about his father murder all those years ago, will he be able to avenge his father or will his fate be the same as his father's?

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars! This story is kinda like "West Side Story" since you have the gangs (even though Brittany or her family isn't involved in one themselves) and the romance where everything is set up against them. I like that the book is written from both view points of the main characters! I wasn't sure I was going to like this book, mostly because I saw the author video for it (which is below) and the Brittany character was portrayed as a really flighty person, however once I started reading the book I feel in love with the main characters! They had more depth then I expected (because of the video) and I started routing for them immediately! =0)

"So you understand why I'd freak out if my parents find out we're . . . friends."
"You'd get in trouble? Shit, you're eighteen. Don't you think you can be friends with who you want to by now? The umbilical cord's been cut, you know."
"You don't understand."
"Try me."
"Why do you want to know so much?"
"Aren't chem partners supposed to know a lot about each other?"
She gives a short laugh. "I hope not."
Truth is, this girl isn't what I thought she'd be. From the moment I told her about my dad, it was as if her entire body sighed in relief. As if someone else's misery comforted her, made her feel as if she wasn't alone. I still can't understand why she cares so much, why she chooses the I-am-flawless facade to show the world. ~ within Chapter 24

"The Reluctant Heiress" [also known as Magic Flutes] by Eva Ibbotson -- Being an heiress in 1920s Austria, you are expected to live a certain way. For Tessa, Pfaffenstein Castle's young heiress, that means not being a junior wardrobe mistress at the International Opera Company in Vienna. Guy is a self-made businessman, in hopes of buying a countryside castle to win the heart of a woman he has been in love with since he was a teenager. Once in Austria, he commissions Tessa’s company to stage a production at Pfaffenstein (the castle he’s planning on purchasing) as part of a lavish ball that he’ll host, while being unaware that the current mistress of Pfaffenstein works for the company.

During the rehearsals, Tessa and Guy meet and share their love for music and art – the attraction between them is undeniable. However, Guy stays faithful to his snobby fiancée and Tessa deals with marriage proposals from a local prince. By the time the ball arrives, the truth will come out … and the question is will their relationship as friends be able to with stand the truth and if so will it turn into something more?

Made the Grade: Women Behind the Badge Series, Book 1

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Kindle Edition - File Size: 1143 KB | Release Date: July 18, 2014 | Publisher: Self-Published | Obtained: Kym Roberts

"Handled By Officer" [Women Behind the Badge Series, Book 1] by Kym Roberts

Author's Book Description : Recruit officer Kiley Gibbons has walked in her twin sister’s shadow her entire life—born two minutes after, she’s five inches shorter with curls gone wild and the exact opposite of her outgoing, athletic sister. But that’s exactly why she’s the one woman who caught Walt Raynham’s eye, and threatens his future in the tactical unit.

Officer Raynham is everything Kiley needs to distract her from the daily grind at the police academy, too bad his drop dead gorgeous body is wearing the uniform of her boss. And when the academy is finally behind her, Kiley must find the strength to walk away from the man she shouldn’t touch.

But when her friend’s death leaves Kiley with two children to raise and a custody battle she just might lose, there’s only one man strong enough to step in and fill the role of her fiancé. Now Kiley’s not sure she wants to resist the temptation Walt causes, and he’s not so sure a family would be such a bad thing. Together, they discover love and an engagement of convenience could be unstoppable force for happily ever-after...until a killer has another idea that may cost them everything they didn’t want.

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars! This novel spans over a period of about three years. It starts out at the academy which is where Kiley and Walt meet, then evolves to how they can deal with their undeniable lust for each other and everything they strive for in their futures too. Yet when tragedy strikes them both and life throws them together for good, will they find that they'll be able to make everything work out for the best or will someone and circumstance come between them?

Through out this novel you can tell that Kiley and Walt are meant for each other. They have an instantaneous connection that is hard for them to resist. While even though their timing is off for a few years fate brings them together in the end.

In truth, I'm surprised at how this novel was laid out. It's not laid out in a bad way, but because of how it's spaced at times I wasn't sure, really, where this novel would lead. Nevertheless, I liked how once they finally come together in the end because once they do it turns into a whorl-wind type of romance for them, while they are in the middle of one major crisis after another.

The only thing that was hard for me to understand was the last chapter. I mean I got the meaning of it by the last few sentences and liked the symbolism, but the way that chapter begins it made me think something completely different which in turn made me a little confused at first.

Overall, though, I really liked this novel and thought it made a good beginning to what seems to be an exciting series.

I recommend it to anyone who enjoys mysterious contemporary romances!

Book Teaser(s) :
“Recruit Gibbons?”
“Yes, sir!” Her breath hit his cheeks as she yelled with more force than he’d expected.
Walt denied the smile tugging at his mouth. “This is a private conversation between the two of us. Is that understood?”
“Ye—” Her voice faltered. Her eyes focused, perused his entire face as she tried to decide how to answer his question.
He lowered his voice even further. “I called you forward so that your entire squad couldn’t hear us. Okay?”
She nodded, her expression lost in uncertainty.
“Good.” He tried to remain focused on her eyes, but when she bit her lip with apprehension, he couldn’t help but let his gaze stray to the pink, delicate mouth he wanted to devour.
She cleared her throat and forcefully swallowed, bringing Walt back to the present. “No matter what Sgt. McCain says, do not cut your hair,” he ordered.
“But—”
Walt didn’t let her finish. “It’s a test of your personal strength. Don’t buckle. Is that understood?”
“Yes ... yes, sir,” she stammered as she looked for his lack of sincerity.
Walt made sure all she saw was the serious expression of an officer looking out for her best interest.
“Thank you, sir.” ~ within Chapter 3

About the Author :

Three career paths resonated for Kym during her early childhood: a detective, an investigative reporter, and...a nun. Being a nun, however, dropped by the wayside when she became aware of boys—they were the spice of life she couldn’t deny.

In high school her path was forged when she took her first job at a dry cleaners and met every cop in town, especially the lone female police officer in patrol. From that point on there was no stopping Kym’s pursuit of a career in law enforcement—even if she had to duct tape rolls of coins to her waist to meet the weight requirements to be hired.

Kym followed her dream and became a detective that fulfilled her desire to be an investigative reporter, with one extra perk—a badge. Promoted to sergeant Kym spent the majority of her career in SVU. She retired from the job reluctantly when her husband drug her kicking and screaming to another state, but writing continued to call her name, at least in her head.

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Kindle Edition - File Size: 1147 KB | Expected Release Date: October 8, 2013 | Publisher: St. Martin's Press | Obtained: NetGalley

"The Scandal Before Christmas" [The Reckless Brides Series, Book 3.5] by Elizabeth Essex

Author's Book Description : Lieutenant Ian Worth needs a wife by Christmas, and he can’t afford to be choosy. He has to find her, woo her, and wed her before he goes back to sea—all within a matter of days. Anne Lesley is a shy spinster with no prospects, and nothing and no one to recommend her but her own self. She accepts the lieutenant’s hasty offer only for the comfort and security it will bring. But when a midwinter storm snows her and Ian in, they both find they got much more than they bargained for—laughter, light, and a Christmas filled with honest to goodness true love...

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars, this is a sweet historical romance that keeps entertained while allowing you to enjoy catching up with favorite past characters.

Ian and Anne's story is charming in the way that they become friends, to confidants, to lovers. Plus it helped that they have similar interests.

All in all, I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the series and to those who enjoy historical (slightly erotic) romances!

"Well, you have your marching orders, Miss Lesley," he said for her ears alone as he ushered her out the door of the dining room. "You are hereby required to contribute more than two words as you inspect the premises. Or perhaps you might defer them until some later time. Perhaps in the morning, on another walk, when we march resolutely toward the village of St. Helens."
His teasing had goaded her into looking at him then, giving him a glimpse of heat firing in the depths of her eye. "As you wish, lieutenant."
The words were quiet, but hot.
"Four already. But I shan't let you off that lightly. And you did promise not to call me lieutenant."
"I never did."
She was so resolutely battened down, he could feel his own sail shaking loose to run before the wind. "Ian," he insisted, just as determined as she. But he was determined to find out what made the quiet, serious Miss Lesley tick. So far, her pleasure was limited to walking.
"Sir---"
"Ian. Give it a try." He gave her his best, most winning smile---the one that made barmaids forget to charge him for his beer, and offer up other delights instead.
And it was working. She was having trouble keeping her determined look in order---she had to keep pursing her lips. "I---"
"Almost. Almost. But you didn't say 'sir,' so I shan't object any more this evening. This way." ~ within Chapter 5

Disappointmentville: Immortal Realms Series, Book 2

- This is an ARC book - Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 352 KB | Release Date: May 2011 | Publisher: Red Sage Publishing

"Dark Obsession" [Immortal Realms Series, Book 2] by Suzanne Rock

My Book Summary : After a bad split and an end to the affair that Javier and Catherine shared over two centuries ago, things have changed for each of them and they have changed as well, now Javier wants to have Catherine back into his life and earn her heart. However, it'll be a lot harder then just showing up and swooping her into his arms. They'll have to earn each others trust again, while fighting to save the lives of Catherine's king, the lives of the fey, Catherine's lover, and themselves from an unknown evil that is conspiring with the current fey king.

Will they be able to make it out alive and with their hearts still intact??

My Book Review : 2.5 out of 5 stars. I really liked Javier and Talen as characters, their roles in this novel were well thought out and they were addicting alpha males that you just love to read about. Catherine was an okay character, there were times I loved her relationship with Javier and there were times that I just wanted to smack her for some of the stupid things she decided to be true. Overall, it was a gripping and stimulating novel!! However, I think I would have liked it better and given it a higher rating if I had read the first book in this series, "Dark Deception," before this novel. So, I would definitely recommend it for those of you who have read the first novel in this series. If the author writes another novel for this series that has Talen as the main character then I'll most definitely be reading it!!

Book Teaser(s) :
Javier stiffened. “What the—”
Something snapped, and then the vibrations in the air ceased. Catherine lifted her head and tried to dispel the fog. “What is it?”
Javier blinked and curled his finger under her chin. His eyes softened as he studied her face. “Nothing.” The air began to shimmer around her again, then snap back into place. “Fuck.” Javier lowered his arms and stepped back. “How did the little weasel do it?” He paced around the edges of the tent, enraged. “How?”
“What?” Catherine followed him around with her eyes, confused.
“He's blocking me from leaving somehow.”
Catherine flexed her fingers as feeling returned to her limbs. Did he just try to glamour her? Anger swelled up in her chest. Of all the pompous. . . ~ within Chapter 6

Made the Grade: Cinderella's Secret Diary (Book 1: Lost) by Ron Vitale

- This is an ARC book - Available Formats through Amazon.com: Paperback - Pages: 196; Kindle Edition - File Size: 957 KB | Release Date: August 2011 | Publisher: Self-Published | Obtained: Indie Book Collective: Blog Tour de Troops

"Cinderella's Secret Diary (Book 1: Lost)" by Ron Vitale

My Book Summary : Have you ever wondered what happened to Cinderella after she married her Prince? Had it occurred to you that there might be more to her story (and how her life got the way it did) then what we were first told?

Well, now you can read the events that are happening in her life a few years after she married the Prince, and you'll find her happily-ever-after didn't play out like we were told. As Cinderella writes during the time of Napoleon's rise to power in the 1700's, we read how she deals with the politics in her new life, how she hopes for love in her life, and how she wishes for a better life. Nevertheless, over the time, reading her diary you'll see that Cinderella definitely learns the meaning of being careful for what you wish for ....

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars, this story/diary sets Cinderella in a mix of the "real world" for that time-period (the 1700's) and fantasy (as she has fey after her). It's truly a well-written story and if you like reading in a historical diary format with a little bit of magic in it then this is the book for you!!

The only real reason that I gave this book 3 stars is because this book wasn't for me. I choose to read it because of the fairytale aspect of it but I'm so use to reading books from multiple points-of-view that this book wasn't as interesting to me as it should have been.

However, I will freely admit the reason I finished reading this story is because of how the plot laid out, as once I began reading the story I had to find out what happened to Cinderella. The intrigue in this story pulled me in and wouldn't let go. Therefore, with that being said, if you like the mysterious novels you might enjoy this book because of that reason as well.

My Review(s) for Blog Tour de Troops : Cinderella's Secret Diary (Book 1: Lost) | Scent and Shadow | BECOME

Book Teaser(s) :
I have told her my story of meeting with the Queen and of my promise to see the mysterious woman in France. Clarissa thinks that she might be a midwife who uses herbs and other natural remedies to aid women unable to bear children. I have remained silent about you. Clarissa and I are close friends, but I want to keep my relationship with you private for now. The secret that we share is a personal bond between us, and I desire to keep our correspondence solely between us, for now.
Clarissa is often judgmental, and I wish her not to color my fondness for you, as she would ask question upon question about why you were not by my side to help me. I can trust her, but I do not wish to reveal my thoughts to her yet. ~ within 'March 27'
Fairy Godmother, I realized at that moment as I closed my eyes that my decision would set me on a path from which I could not easily return. I listened to my heart and thought about what decision to make, and I felt a tingling in my left hand, and the moment froze in time. I imagined my future and that of my child’s and how happy we would be together and how simple the path could be. ~ within 'Late in the day on June 17'
