I'll I feel my life crumbling and falling away ... falling away with you

In "All Together Dead" by Charlaine Harris from her Sookie Stackhouse series .... The time has come for the long-planned vampire summit, where she has to attend as part of the Queen of Louisiana's group. Her job during her time there is to help the Queen know who is lying to her and who isn't .... as well as attend the Queen's trial about her husbands death. But soon Sookie finds that the hotel they're staying at isn't as secured as well as she hoped ..... who is she saving now? or how will she do it?

I wish I could write more but I would give quite a bit away by doing so. But I really liked this story ... 4 out of 5 stars.

For more information on the Sookie Stackhouse series or other of Charlaine Harris' books then please check out her website.

Now who'd have thought someone like you could love me ...

In "Sweet Dreams" (part of the Halle Pumas series) by Dana Marie Bell we start up where "The Wallflower" left off during the masquerade ball with Becky and Livia fighting. The main characters in this story are Becky and Simon (the Beta of their pride), who are best friends of Emma and Max (the Alpha of their pride). Simon claims Becky as his mate and when their relationship is starting to become great someone from their recent past sneaks in to push them apart ...

2.5 out of 5 stars. I liked the story mostly because I got to read more about the main characters, Max and Emma, again. But it was cute and sexy.

Taking the journey, Enjoying the ride, Be true to yourself, Let your heart be your guide.

Two star-crossed lovers get together in "Evernight" by Claudia Gray. In this Romeo & Juliet type tale we meet Bianca & Lucas. Both are living secret lives that they grew up in but never chose for themselves. They meet up at Evernight Academy, as new students. How can you get so close to someone, and still be able to live another life? When life comes in to wake them up from their "romance bubble" will they be able to fight for each other? Or will they turn away?

4 out of 5 stars! It's another vamp teenage read ... but it definitely kept me reading. And even though I expected some of the twists before hand ... that never got in the way. So ... for those like me you like that sort of thing ... READ IT! =0)

Down in the boondocks ...

In "Definitely Dead" by Charlaine Harris from her Sookie Stackhouse series .... We find out that Sookie's cousin, Hadley, is dead dead. Meaning in one day Sookie found out that at some point Hadley had been turned into a vampire but she was now killed, and she had left all of her possessions to Sookie. Who also learns that Hadley had been on of the Queen of Louisiana's fave vampires. So Sookie goes down to New Orleans to clean out and box up Hadley's apt. When she gets there she finds that things are not always what they seem (as usual) ......

As of now what I think of some of the characters....
Bill - ASSHOLE!!!!!! You'll find out why in chapter 15.

Eric - Caring to Sookie (even when he doesn't want to be). A true friend. Loyal.

Quinn - Sookie's current boyfriend. Were-tiger. Muscleman. Sweet.

Amelia - A witch. Ditsy. Opinionated. A new friend.

Claudine - Sweet. Happy. Loving. Sookie's fairy-godmother.

Sophie-Anne - Queeny. A user.

Debbie's family - CRAZY!!!!!

Rasul - Queen's employee. Another new vamp friend.

This book I give it 5 out of 5 stars!

For more information on the Sookie Stackhouse series or other of Charlaine Harris' books then please check out her website.

this love is difficult but it's real, don't be afraid we'll make it out of this mess

In the Buchanan Book # 4 ... called "Tempting" by Susan Mallery is Dani's story, the youngest of the Buchanan siblings. However, she recently was told by her grandmother (the woman who raised her) that she 'isn't really a Buchanan'. So, she sets off to find her birth father, who turns out to be the Senator of the State of Washington and is running for president. The only thing that Dani didn't count on when trying to find and meet her father was meeting his large family. A family that already has 8 children (all adopted), what's one more? But as the younger kids all instantly enjoy spending time with her, her father's wife gets jealous of Dani and her feelings hurt by the situation in the process. Then their is the tiny fact that the eldest adopted son for her fathers and Dani seem to be falling for each other. How will her life ever get back to normal and out of the press now, without hurting anyone???

3.5 out of 5 stars! I have yet to read the other Buchanan books ... they might be good yet I'm not sure if I'll get to them or not. *shrug* I definitely liked this book though. It keeps you on your toes ... with humor and heart.

You got me runnin' baby, Wild at heart

The Supes come out to play in the next three installments, "Club Dead", "Dead to the World", and "Dead as a Doornail" which are by Charlaine Harris from her Sookie Stackhouse series.

In "Club Dead" (book 3), trouble comes for Sookie & Bill's relationship in the shape of Bill's ex-girlfriend, named Lorena. Also ... it doesn't help that Bill turns into a prick either. However, when Bill doesn't turn up when he's supposed to Eric asks Sookie to go undercover to save him. ...... 5 out of 5 stars ... great ending!!!! =0)

Some of the new characters we meet in this book:
Alcide - HOT! Werewolf. Co-Owner of Father/Son construction business = rich! Like's Sookie. However ... still in love with CRAZY ex-girlfriend!

Debbie - Alcide's CRAZY ex-girlfriend! Were-Lynx. HUGE Bitch! etc etc etc...

In "Dead to the World" (book 4), one night after work Sookie drives home to find Eric running down the side of the road in nothing but pants with no idea who he is. Sookie helps him out by letting him stay with her and informing her other friends about the witch who did this to him ... since the witch wants more then Eric for his body ...... This story is mostly about the budding relationship of Eric and Sookie, which is why I give it 5 out of 5 stars!!! I just love them together!!

And as I said in the beginning of this story about the Supes ... we meet more of them like the rest of Alcide's pack, and we start to learn about the people of Hotshot. Also, we meet Claudine who happens to be a fairy ... an actual one!

Things heat up for Sookie ... especially her house! In "Dead to the World" (book 5), with a shooter on the loose (who happens to like shooting and killing supes as much as possible), Sookie is scared as to which one of her friends (or her brother) will be next. But in all of the disarray of being on guard about the shooter .... someone is after Sookie. But who??

In this book Bill starts to either get Sookie back together with him ... or make her jealous .... and I just have to say I don't like it. He was an asshole and now ...... if they want to be friends fine. But I hope that's as much that happens between them. *crossing fingers* This one I gave 4 out of 5 stars.

For more information on the Sookie Stackhouse series or other of Charlaine Harris' books then please check out her website.

I'll be reaching for the stars with you (honey) , Who cares if no one else believes

"The Pleasure Slave" by Gena Showalter is just what you would think by the title, except it comes with an other world twists to this paranormal romance. Julia is a shy antique dealer who comes across an old jewelry box that she seems drawn to at a flee market. After bringing it home and during the process of cleaning it she opens it to release Tristan. He is called the "Pleasure Slave" since to make any female who owns is box happy is his only talent. But when Julia treats him not as a slave but as an equal ..... passions ignite .... how will they be able to stay together???

I know I did explain it in the best way ... but you get the drift .... 3 out of 5 stars. If you've read other of Gena's books then you should know it's written like that of her "Lords of the Underworld" series, with two stories written around each other. I do like how she wrapped up everything though, good ending. =0)

You'd be like Heaven to touch. I wanna hold you so much.

Interested in a page-turner that won't take forever to read? Then you should check out "Serengeti Heat" [A Serengeti Shifter Novella] by Vivi Andrews .... Ava is the runt of her pride, and because of this she has excepted that she won't be mating with anyone else in her pride. Three months ago Landon joined her pride and became the new Alpha. Even though she is inevitably drawn to him, Ava tries to avoid him since she knows she could never be his mate. But once their paths get crossed will Landon be able to convince Ava that he doesn't want to let her go?

If you want a quick read [it only has 11 chapters] and some paranormal romance then I'd definitely recommend this book. 3 out of 5 stars.

Pretty woman, look my way...Pretty woman, say you'll stay with me

In "Slow Hands" by Leslie Kelly .... Thanks to a mix-up at a bachelor auction, paramedic Jake Wallace has been mistaken for a high-end male gigolo! He can’t understand why he “sold” for so much, or why a woman like super-rich, super-sexy Madeleine Turner would have to buy a date in the first place. But one thing’s for sure...he wants her. And he’s ready to play any role she wants to keep her in his life long enough to melt the “ice queen’s” cold heart. [Taken from Leslie's website since it explained it a lot better then I could.]

It was a cute story that even with all of the misunderstandings that happen between the couple ... you still route for them. 3 out of 5 stars.

I put a spell on you, because you're mine

"Destined for an Early Grave" (part of the Night Huntress series) by Jeaniene Frost was a page-turner from start to finish! I could barely put it down! Much better then the previous book in the series. As things start looking up for Cat and Bones while on vacation .. sailing around on their boat .... Cat begins to have nightmares about a mysterious blond vampire from her past. Soon they find that this vampire is claiming to be Cat's actual husband and wants her back with him. Cat doesn't want to go and Bones isn't going to let her leave without a fight. Now she has to find out what she's willing to give up for her to get what she wants.

I loved this book ... I think it was my fave thus far in the series!! So many new twists .... nothing will ever be the same anymore for Cat. *shakes head* 4 out of 5 stars.

Let's give 'em somethin' to talk about babe, A little mystery to figure out.

How can an actuary and a constant risk taker ever make it work? Well you can find out if you read: "Speed Dating" by Nancy Warren! It's about Kendall, a winner of the Actuary of the Year award, is in Charlotte, NC to accept this award and an hour before the event her fiancé informs her that he's leaving her for his pregnant mistress, who is also their work colleague. Startled, pissed, and desperately needing to find out where her dress for the event is, Kendall finds herself locked out of her hotel room in nothing but silk lingerie. When her bosses start walking down the hall she goes into another hotel room that has it's door open so she wont be seen, and ends up in Dylan's room. Dylan is a Nascar driver, who is waiting for is hired actress date to show up so he can attend his ex-wife's wedding. He assumes Kendall is that women and because of what has just happened to her in the past hour or so she agrees to go with him. ........ After the wedding he finds out she's not really an actress and they attend her acceptance part of her awards ceremony. Kendall makes a speech that leaves her co-workers feeling she might be a bigger risk then they're willing to take, telling her she should take some time off. ...... Which is how Kendall finds herself as Dylan's good luck charm for his races during the next 3 months .... but when things start becoming more for her will he hang on or crash and burn?

It was definitely a cute read! 3 out of 5 stars! I would have given it 4 but the ending just left it hanging. =0P Which is why I am a big fan of epilogues, so everything can wrap up in the end. But this one didn't have that. =0(

Oh wells .....

Come on home, So come on home, But don't forget to leave

A reckless-creative-entrepreneur and a ditsy-opinionated-free-spirit join forces to make "Stupid and Contagious" by Caprice Crane a must read!! It's about Heaven and Brady. Heaven has just lost her PR job (because of her bosses mistake), and is now a waitress in a trendy restaurant in New York. Even though to say it was her calling would be laughable. Brady just moved into the apt next to Heaven's. He's in music producer in an agency that's struggling to remain, which he and his friend created, until they find a group to get them their 'next big break'. Brady also likes to come up with new inventions/ideas but rarely tries to create them. His latest creation is Cinnamilk (Cinnamon-flavored milk) .... now he just needs to find a buyer. Can these two make it as friends, let alone neighbors?

I hope I described it right .... it's early and I'm still waking up .... anyway ....

I HIGHLY recommend everyone to read this book. Funny, entertaining, and a page-turner are the easiest words to describe it. =0) 4 out of 5 stars!!!

PLUS -- throughout the whole book you get these awesome quotes from movies!! Here are a few of them:

"She's gone. She gave me a pen. I gave her my heart ... she gave me a pen." - Lloyd, Say Anything

"Try not to suck any dick on the way to the parking lot." - Dante, Clerks

"No, no, you've always had that wrong about me. I really am this shallow." - Will, About a Boy

"My God ... I haven't fucked like that since grade school." - Marla, Fight Club

"It's really human of you to listen to all my bullshit." - Samantha Baker, Sixteen Candles

They say that things just cannot grow beneath the winter snow

"Snowbound" by Janice Kay Johnson was such a disappointment. I picked it up from Amazon.com since they had it free if you had an iPod or a Kindle and it was on the top of the list for supposedly being so good. But ehhh. =0P

It's about a teacher who is driving back (in a snowstorm) from an out-of-town event with a group of her students (8 teens). They decided to take the quickest route back ... not knowing that that highway closes in the winter. Thankfully the route they took has a lodge on it. The owner of this lodge is a gentleman who just got discharged from the military, and is dealing with his own set of problems. During the teacher (and her group's) 3 night stay at the lodge waiting for the storm to let-up, the teacher and the owner build a connection ..... and they see if they can make it work afterwords.

I mean the setting was good and so was the plot/point of the story. But if I wanted to read about war scenes then I would have picked up a nonfiction or history type of book, not a romance. And even though the story was a short one, for how she dragged it out making so everyone was so indecisive .... I was just happy to see it end.

2 out of 5 stars.

Hold out your hand cos friends will be friends right till the end

"Will Grayson, Will Grayson" by John Green & David Levithan is about friendship, love, and teenage life/problems. It's main characters are both named Will Grayson from different parts of Illinois. One is straight and one is gay ... but they are both cynics, very big ones at that. Then one night they both find themselves at a porn shop called Frenchy's and their lives take a new path ....

I loved the book because it didn't try to be anything it wasn't. It spoke the truth of the situation the characters created, and I find that awesome!! The story is so unlike anything I've read in a while that it was a really good change of pace. I definitely recommend it to everyone who wants to laugh a bit and read a musical coming to life (kinda). =0) 3 out of 5 stars!!

Here's an excerpt:
i do not say 'good-bye.' i believe that's one of the bullshittiest words ever invented. it's not like you're given the choice to say 'bad-bye' or 'awful-bye' or 'couldn't-care-less-about-you-bye.' every time you leave, it's supposed to be a good one. well, i don't believe that. i believe against that.

It comes out April 2010!! Don't forget to pick it up then ... or PRE-ORDER it!!

Elizabeth City's Downtown Business & Professionals Assn. is doing activities all this week for the holiday season and they're calling it Holidays on the Harbor. Part of that they are doing something called Find The GINGER BREAD MEN, where certain downtown businesses have a gingerbread man somewhere in their store and throughout the week locals and visitors can go around, try to find these gingerbread men, once they find them get their forms stamped ... then turn their forms in at Page After Page Bookstore ... then tomorrow (December 12th) at the Holidays on the Harbor event in Mariners Wharf park (click herefor more info) they'll announce the winners for this along with other activities they're planning on having there. Anyway ... those same businesses (well most not all) are participating in a business holiday decorating contest (about 14 businesses). And I was asked to be one of the judges. So, today after work I went around and judged which storefront I liked the best. And I have taken photos of my top 3 ... plus some others ... but here are my top three:

#1 - My Winner - Selig's Jewelers

#3 - Page After Page Bookstore

I’ve been waiting all my life, And now I found ya

Looking for a great romance story that isn't 500 pages long? Well ... "The Wallflower" (part of the Halle Pumas series) by Dana Marie Bell would be one for you to look into. It's a cute story, but a quick read (over 200 pages but under 300 pages) that I couldn't out down! It's about Max & Emma who have known each other since they were teens but after moving in different directions (by going to college and just growing up), they find themselves living in their hometown again. Emma has always been in love with Max growing up, but thinks that since he has never dated someone like her she doesn't stand a chance with him. However, Max is instantly drawn to Emma as soon as he hears her speak ... and now the two can't get enough of each other. The only problem is Max's ex just can't take NO for an answer .. know matter what.

3 out of 5 stars, this story I just couldn't put down!

Right now you can read it FREE on your Kindle or iPod through Amazon.com, click here to download it!

That chance worth taking ... History in the making ...

Needing another vamp fix ... well we're back to Bones his "Kitten" in "At Graves End" (part of the Night Huntress series) by Jeaniene Frost. It was good and definitely started off as such. Especially with the revenge/come back of Max (Cat's father). Yet Max is only the beginning ....

Again ... good book ... yet the first 2 books were better. I give it 3 out of 5 stars. It started out really well .. but towards the end it kind of felt like a filler book. *shrug* I dunno ... hopefully the next book will get better. *crossing fingers*

My best friend to me was more like a brother ...

A story that warms the heart and can still be ... funny ... about friendship ... about love and first loves ... about family ... and more. "My Most Excellent Year: A Novel of Love, Mary Poppins, & Fenway Park" by Steven Kluger is a really great book. I usually love books that are written completely out of letters / IMs / Emails / notes .... etc. and this one is no exception.

It's a book about three friends who are in 11th Grade writing an essay about their most excellent year as their college essays, and the year they talk about is their freshman year of high school where all their lives get turned upside down. Anthony/TC/Tick is a jock who gets along with everyone. Augie is an extrovert to the extreme and would do anything for Tick his "brother". Alejandra/Alé is independent and opinionated but finds out what true friendship can be like. I think everyone would enjoy this story, here is a small excerpt to show you just how great it is:

Even though I should have listened to Augie when he told me that Alejandra needed special handling, I didn't. Instead on the first day of school I stuck a note into her social studies book.

DEAR ALLIE: I'M CONSIDERING A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU. AND BY THE WAY, FORGET THAT MRS. FITZPATRICK CALLS ME ANTHONY. YOU CAN CALL ME T.C. - T.C.

After phys ed there was a vanilla envelope on my desk with purple writing on it that looked like it came from the principal's office--and I usually don't get called in there until at least November.

Dear Anthony,

I appreciate your recent interest, but I'm not accepting applications at this time. Your letter will be kept in our files and someone will get back to you if there is an opening.

Thanks for thinking of me.

Respectfully, Alejandra Perez

P.S. It's not "Allie." It's "Alé."

Soo cute! =0) It gives you the usual teenage drama ... along with other things not every kid has to deal with. Definitely I give this book 4 out of 5 stars!! ... come feel this magic i've been feeling since i met you ...

I'm not sure if this happens to every girl ... but the lucky ones (like me) get to grow up with guys who aren't related to her and yet are like family. That's how it is for Belly in "The Summer I Turned Pretty" by Jenny Han.

This 15 yr old lives her life for the summers she spends at a beach house with her mom, brother, and her mothers best friend with her sons. Growing up she has always been the youngest in the pack and the only girl. Over the years she has tried to be included and the summer that she turns sweet 16 things finally change, especially when everyone realizes that she has grown up and isn't a little girl anymore.

When you always grown up thinking you were the ugly duckling ... and now your not ... how can you get everyone else to see it too?

Belly is a great character ... brave in her own way ... loving to those around her ... and never gives up.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars. To find out more about this book or other books by Jenny Han check out her website.

I'm not a princess, this ain't a fairytale

Have you ever felt like you had a perfect boyfriend and you never understood why he was with you? I know I have. However, my boyfriend(s) growing up were never as 'perfect' acting as Lauren's in "Bloom" by Elizabeth Scott. Lauren has been together with Dave for almost a year and a half. And even though he is 'perfect' and treats her right ... things with them just never amount to much. She doesn't understand why he's with her. Then a person from her past comes back into her life that she hasn't seen for at least 10 yrs or so .... and he lights something within her. Making her be able to be herself in a way she hasn't been able to be with anyone in a very long time. But as she gets closer to her old friend, the thing she has to deal with but doesn't know how is does she want to give up the life she has let it become or does she want something more?

Bloom gets 4 out of 5 stars. Very cute. The characters were well written and you just wanted to find out more.

You Belong to Me

And the adventure heats up with ... "One Foot In The Grave" (part of the Night Huntress series) by Jeaniene Frost. It starts four years later .. after Cat left Bones as her only way she thought to protect him and her mother. So now she's a special agent for the FBI .... but over the yrs she hasn't found anyone in her love life to match up to Bones yet. Then after she goes on an assignment she can't complete she finds that she has a hitman (or two) after her now. And in a twist of fate she runs into Bones at her best friend's wedding .... Now he wants to help save her and to make her realize he's never letting her go again ...

5 out of 5 stars! So much better then the first book! Especially much more fast paced with lots of additional twists thrown in! YAY! *hehee*

Checking out .. Dane Cook

As a birthday present to me, my hubby bought us floor seat tickets to see Dane Cook live!! He was performing his ISolated INcident comedy tour and it was awesome! Also, he had a hilarious comedian to open his show. And here are some photos I was able to take during it. =0)

This girl next door has some secrets ...

When I first started reading "Halfway To The Grave" (part of the Night Huntress series) by Jeaniene Frost, I was a little scared that I bought a series of 4 books and turn out to hate the first one. Especially after reading "The Fixer Upper", since Cat almost started having the same personality of Dempsey (like having feelings for someone then run away from them) ... and there was only so much a person can read about that. But thankfully even though the author created a lead character so flighty, she was also created strong-willed ... and then you have the lead's man that never wants to give up on her and you have a perfect romance novel! Bonus when it's a paranormal romance! =0)

This book was the first in the Night Huntress series (another vampire flick - YAY!) featuring Cat who's half-human & half-vampire, she's known she was different all her life but she had it confirmed by her mother on her 16th birthday. Her mother has a huge prejudice about vampires (because of the terms that happened to get her pregnant) and because of this she passes her prejudice onto Cat .... turning her daughter into a vampire hunter. Cat has no problem with what she does (especially since it makes her mom happy). During one of her pickups (when she's 22 yrs old) she comes across a vampire that doesn't follow the typical protocol that she's used to, and she ends up getting taken back to his place. He's under the impression that she works for someone who's after him ... until she finally gets him to know the truth about her bloodline. Then they partner up since he's a vampire hunter himself aka a hit-man ... he trains her ... they get closer ... they start working .... and the question is will she let herself fall for what she grew up thinking was wrong/evil?

All I can say is I'm hooked ... 4 out of 5 stars easily. To find out more about this book, series or any of Jeaniene Frost's other books then check out her website.

It's a NEW MOON

Just saying .... I saw New Moon last night and I LOVED IT!!! Definitely better then the first movie and it was a great portrayal of the second Twilight book!!!! If you haven't seen it yet then GO!! =0)

A Fixer Upper is RIGHT

This weekend I tried reading "The Fixer Upper" by Mary Kay Andrews. I mean the product description of it sounded so cute. It's about a girl named Dempsey, who is a lobbyist from Washington DC, and suddenly is thrown into a huge scandal and is pretty much thrown under the bus. So, her dad tells her about a family home that is in desperate need of repair that he just inherited, which he would like her to fix up since she has no prospects and he's not going to give her any money without working for it. So, she moves into this house and starts fixing it up ... finding a unique distant cousin along the way, a town where everyone knows your business, and some gentlemen who would like to get involved with Dempsey. However, she still cannot get to far away from the mess in DC.

I mean with that type of book ... what more can a girl ask for? But I was wrongly advised! *blah* I mean it sounded cute ... and at the beginning of the book it started out okay but I barreled on thinking and hoping it would get better. And I was sorely mistaken. =0( The book was slower then slow. Dempsey couldn't make up her mind and for someone who was supposed to have gone to law school ... I just thought the character would have been better. *shakes head* I give it 1 out of 5 stars.

However, you might have better luck then me reading it ... who knows? So, if you'd like to find out what others say about this book or find out more about Mary Kay Andrews' other books, then check out her website.

When you find yourself ...

Who knew I would like Amish stories? I certainly didn't, or didn't realize that I would enjoy them as much as I did. But I guess when you look at it if it is a really good romance story and the plot really catches your interest then anything is possible. =0) And that's what I found with "Hidden" (part of the Sisters of the Heart series) by Shelley Shepard Gray.

This is the first story in the Sisters of the Heart series. I'm not sure if I'll read the others anytime soon, but after reading the first chapter the book held my interest and I couldn't put it down. It's an easy read (under 300 pages) about Anna, a woman who really has no direction in life and finds herself in an abusive relationship. After trying to talk to her family and police about her situation, and everyone not believing her, she turns to the last people she can think of her friend Katie's family who are apart of the Amish community in Pennsylvania. They take her in, and she earns her keep while hiding from her abuser and everyone she knows as she thinks her loved ones who inform him of her location. While doing so she grows as a person, gains a special relationship/friendship, and feels happier then she has in a long time. But what will she be able to go back to the life she just left??

It was a very good story ... if you don't mind it being full of detail yet short ... I give it 5 out of 5 stars. I'm not sure if I'll read the other stories in the series but you never know, since I did love the main characters in this book.

To find out more about this book, series, or other of her books ... then check out Shelley Shepard Gray's website.

Firefighter vs Doctor

Out of all of her novels, "Just One of the Guys" by Kristan Higgins is by far one of her best!! This great romantic comedy, just made it so I couldn't put it down. Especially with lines like, "I'm being killed by my appetizer.", you just can't go wrong. I think most women at one time or another feel like 'just one of the guys', which is a good thing but not when your in love with one of those guy friends.

Which is what happens to Chastity. After moving back to her hometown, the books opens with her getting dumped and not in the most pleasant way either (even though it's never really pleasant). Getting back into the swing of things again, hanging out with her 4 older brothers with their co-worker buddies and such has it's benefits. However, she really would like to find her special someone. In doing so she can't help but still have her crush on one of her best guy friends, named Trevor, whom she has known since she was 10 yrs old and has practically been raised as another brother around her. Then there's a new handsome doctor in town that has caught her eye. And what would she do just to not be seen as just one of the guys ....

This book is one of my faves for Kristan Higgins, my other fave of hers is "Too Good To Be True". To find out more about this book or others of hers, then check out her website.

Raised a bad girl, with the heart of a good girl

"Stealing Heaven" by Elizabeth Scott is a great book! It's about Dani who is 18 yrs old and has been a thief all of her life. It's basically the "family business", since her earliest memory is of her with her parents braking into a home when she was about 3 or 4 yrs old. The book starts off with things going good from a heist with her mom .... and they make plans on there next location. Once they get there, Dani finds that being invisible, like she normally tries to be, isn't as easy. Especially when locals are trying to befriend you. Soon she comes to a dilemma does she still want to live the life she's always known or live the life she's always wanted?!

This is my second favorite book so far of Elizabeth Scott's novels. To find out more about this book or others by checking out her website.

Sookie and Bill ... will they make it?

Over the past three days I have started and finished reading "Dead Until Dark" and "Living Dead in Dallas" which are by Charlaine Harris from her Sookie Stackhouse series. For both books I think I'll give them 4 out of 5 stars.

Both books talk about Sookie's life and how she copes with her power. In "Dead Until Dark" Sookie meets Bill a vampire, who is the first one she has ever meet and decides to start living "mainstream" by moving back into the town he use to be from (when he human). Some situations take place that throw these two together and they see if they're able to make it work.

In "Living Dead in Dallas", Sookie get requested to go to Dallas with Bill, by Bill's boss, to help some vampires there. Throughout this whole book Sookie's wondering/finding out that that she knows she loves Bill but she's not sure if she's in love with him. And like always (at least from what I've seen in these first two books) Sookie tries to save/help everyone she can, no matter what the risk is to herself.

Basically I really liked both books and I can understand why everyone (like my best friend) is highly addicted to this series. Especially since I cannot wait to start on the next ones to see what happen. However, they are a little too fast paced for me. I mean they are good books ... but I think I'm just used to reading more detail in my books ... so that's why I really liked them but I didn't love them. *shrug* But I would still recommend the series to everyone else who has yet to read them. =0)

How sweet it is ....

"When one door of happiness closes, another opens;
but often we look so long at the closed door that
we do not see the one which has been opened for us."
- Helen Keller

Heartache, friendship, forgiveness .... are just some words to describe this touching story called "How Sweet It Is" by Alice Wisler. I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars ... definitely living up to it's name! It's about Deena whom is living in Atlanta, GA and moves into her grandfather's cabin in Bryson City, North Carolina after her life crashes (literally). And the best way to turn her life around for the better is by moving.

Once she gets to the town she meets a town of characters from -- a Dr. Seuss-quoting plumber named Jonas (my favorite character in this book), to her crazy aunt Regena Lorraine, to a group of misfit middle school students, and more ... with the cherry on top being a hot social worker named Zack who usually seems to know the perfect thing to say to her.

I really think everyone should read this ... it's a great book of redemption. To find more about this book check out Alice Wisler's website.

Husbands ... just can't have enough of them

Last night I finished reading .. "Husbands" by Adele Parks, which I'll give it 3 out of 5 stars. I mean .. it was a good book and I think I loved it right up until the last few chapters. =0P

It's about Bella/Belinda who is thirty but is still living in the past (even though she thinks she's moved on). The problem is when she moves on she has a tendency to ignore things like '2 weeks notices' or telling those around her how she really feels ... so she just walks away (by avoiding calls or moving). Which is how she has gotten into the mess that the book talks about.

It starts off about her married life with her husband Phil ... and how wonderful that life is. Then her best friend Laura gets a new boyfriend ... and the twist is that this boyfriend of Laura's is Bella/Belinda's 1st and current husband Stevie, whom she left about 8 years previously without any note and never divorced from.

Throughout the book it's all about how Bella/Belinda is planning on handling her mess of a situation (since she has 2 husbands). The book is funny, charming, and sweet ... making you wish that everything will work out for the best. And I will admit I like who all the characters ended up with. Yet I guess I just don't like the ending ... it could have been better.

However, I think I will look into more of Adele Parks' books since I do like her writing style. And I do love me some British literature. =0) To find out more about her and her books yourself ... then check out Adele's website.

When opposites attract...

So far in my major book reading lately I have found that no one else but Susan Elizabeth Phillips can write a great romance novel where every single one (thus far that I've read) deals with opposites attracting to each other (or at least that's what the characters believe in the beginning). My favorite of her novels is still "Match Me If You Can" from her The Chicago Stars books.

However, I just finished reading "Ain't She Sweet"!! And I have to say it has become my second fave out of all her books! Definitely 5 out of 5 stars! It's all about Sugar Beth (a Southern Belle who growing up has made her town resent from all the trouble she caused) and Colin (a British writer who moved to the south and when he started to try making a name for himself, met his match - not always in the best way either). The story is really charming ... and I like how Sugar Beth and Colin "overcome their demons". So-to-speak. =0)

HoN: Oh My GODDESS!

"Nerd herd, focus. You're here to help the fledglings. Dour One and Dour Two aren't important," said Aphrodite.
"Dr. Seuss reference. I like it," Stark said, giving me a check-me-out-I've-always-read-books hottie grin.
Aphrodite frowned at him. "I said focus, not flirt."

Okay ... I'm going to try and be nice ... trying not to give away any spoilers but if I do ... I apologize ahead of time. *long sigh* And I'll start by saying: **SPOILER ALERT** Just in case! =0)

I just now finished reading "Tempted" by PC Cast & Kristen Cast .... and again I say OH MY GODDESS!! It was soooooooooooooo goood!! I cried at the end! So I recommend that if you read it ... bring tissues!

It's the 6th book in the House of Night (HoN) series, and it is already my fave one thus far, I give it 5 out of 5 stars!! As always there are love triangles galore in the book! *big grin* I have to laugh, that Stevie Rae is starting her own love triangles too. =0) I think I'm going to enjoy the relationship between her and her new guy (the one she imprints with!!). I think Aphrodite & Darius' relationship is very sweet! And I'm extra happy that Zoey finally smarten ups about Erik ... he was turning into such a jerk. =0P

Which leads me to my two fave men in the series Heath and Stark ... and I absolutely LOVE how they act ... what they do ... and just what good guys they are in this book ... it just made me love them more. =0)

However, I will say that this is the first book out of the series that made me bawl like a baby at the end. I mean yes I cried when Stevie Rae died ... but this was different. =0( And it was the first one that definitely ends with a cliffhanger, compared with the others. Since I mean you are always curious as to what will happen next ... but this one just stopped in the middle of a big plot twist.

I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL "BURNED" (the next book in the HoN series) COMES OUT IN MAY 2010!!! YAY!!

Also ... I'll say that I really liked how this book we were able to get glimpses into the heads of some of the other characters. Since in the previous books you just got it all from Zoey's point of view .. which is fine since she's an awesome character .. yet it's fun to see things from another prospective too.

To sum it all up if you haven't read the House of Night series then I DEFINITELY recommend you starting! To find out more about the HoN or just about Tempted, then go to: www.HouseOfNightSeries.com

This on is Something ... Maybe ...

Pretty much the title says it all .. kinda ... "Something, Maybe" by Elizabeth Scott, is a really good book! I finished it yesterday. And give it 4.5 out of 5 stars!! It is a highly predictable book ... and yet ... I couldn't get enough of it. Especially since there probably won't be any sequels to it. =0( Oh wells. But I definitely recommend it to every girl!

The main character Hannah and her best friend were so funny. And of course I love me some love triangles thrown into the mix! *hehee*

Tis life in the slow lane ...

Well this past Friday I found out that my position is moving from Full-Time to Part-Time. Which I am still upset about and sometimes I feel like I'm going to have a panic attack with all the stress that I feel in my chest. So, I've been going to the library lately (since I need to conserve my money till I get either a better job or some part-time jobs) to keep my mind off the negative things. In the past few days I've already finished reading "Dreamland" by Sarah Dessen, "Honey, Baby, Sweetheart" by Deb Caletti, and "How to Be Popular" by Meg Cabot. All of those books were cute ... but nothing great to report about them. I am getting "Tempted" (from the House of Night series) by PC and Kristen Cast tomorrow since I pre-ordered it (YAY!!!) ... but other then that I need to start picking them up from the library. Any other books you might be able to recommend for me??

But anyways ... I'm now job hunting ... for anything that will make up for the money I'm loosing out on. *shakes head* Hopefully things will work out for the better! =0)

This book report is all Hush, Hush...

Well, yesterday I finished reading Hush, Hush, by Becca Fitzpatrick. It's the first novel in her first and latest series about immortal beings and fallen angels. I really liked the main characters Patch and Nora. Patch is of course a bad boy with a good heart [even though he doesn't want to admit to it] and Nora is a good girl who tries to do the right thing always.

I loved that the setting was in Maine since ... HELLO I'm from Maine!! ... I love when I can get another view on that area I never would have thought of. *sigh ... memories*

The only problem I had with the novel was Nora's best friend Vee ... she was just way to goddamn pushy. I just wanted to smack her ... especially 20% of Nora's problems were from Vee making up things ... she just needed to shut up sometimes. It was very annoying. =0/ But I digress.

Basically for me the book had too many twists and turns for me to either keep up with it or like it during the first to the middle half of the book .... but from the middle to the end it finally got better ... so all in all I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. Definitely I plan on reading the sequel to this book called Crescendo .. when it comes out since like I said I did love the books ending [and no not just because it ended ... it was really good!! =0) ]!! Put it this way because I loved the main characters that kept me reading the book. ♥

Book Report - The Van Alen Legacy [Blue Bloods]

Okay .... yesterday I finished the latest book in the Blue Bloods series called the Van Alen Legacy!! This one develops more of the plot (Duh .. of course .. *hehee*) mostly around Bliss's "Visitor" / Jack & Schuyler's romance / Mimi's responsibilities ... etc. Of course with plot twists galore!! I really don't know how to explain it any more without giving more of this book away ... but I will say that if you haven't picked up this series yet then I would start!

However, I will say this ... I think this is the best book out of the whole series thus far!! =0)

It is another type of Vampire flick ... with a mythical twist ... find out more from the author Melissa de la Cruz's website or from BlueBloodsBooks.com.

Book Report - the Jessica Darling Series

Okay ... I just finished read the Jessica Darling series, written by Megan McCafferty, which includes 5 books (Sloppy Firsts, Second Helpings, Charmed Thirds, Fourth Comings, & Perfect Fifths). I started reading the first book sometime last week and then finished reading the last book this morning (with a few days waiting period for the final books to arrive somewhere in between). And all I can say it I LOVED IT/THEM!!!!!!!

Sloppy Firsts - starts out when Jessica is sixteen and has never really had a boyfriend. She's smart and "snarky" ... what's not to love. *hahaa* And in this book she starts seeing Marcus Flutie, who is the all around bad boy! Then it goes from the end of her sophomore year into summer time then into her junior year of high school ... and Marcus is back more so then ever.

Throughout the whole series it shows you Jessica's tale of her romance with Marcus ... through the good times and bad. I also love it because these characters are written as being the same age as me, so I can definitely relate to the pop culture references and what she goes through. Not that my life is exactly like hers but I definitely understand how she feels in the situations she gets thrown in.

Then in Perfect Fifths - you finally get to hear both sides of the romance as the tale goes back and forth between the characters. ♥ I really can't say anymore without giving it all away so I'll just say again ... I LOVED IT!!!!

To find out more info on this series go to Megan McCafferty's website. =0)

Here's an awesome video overview about the series ... check it out:

I'm Sooooo Sorry!

Hey all ... I'm very sorry about not being around here that much ... it's like Summer hit and then I got rushed into everything else .. and this got placed onto the back burner. Meaning right now my main website is down. I don't plan or want to give this up. But I'm not sure really where I am going with it. =0/

So, I think it'll be down for a little while longer. I might still post pics or videos when I get the chance but for now ... I'm at a bit of a loss about what I want.

I am always looking for inspiration though so if you have any ideas or anything please comment and let me know. I'll just say .... I'm sorry again.

Have a great day everyone and I hope you'll all have a wonderful 4th of July tomorrow. =0)

Take care, Jess

Happy Easter Everyone!!!

Happy Easter!!

I hope everyone will have a wonderful Easter holiday today! In addition, I also hope that those who decided to buy a pet for their children for Easter will plan on taking care of them properly and love them to pieces. The reason I say that is because my best friend works at the Animal Refuge League in Westbrook, Maine so I see photos of all of the poor animals that get given up there, so I wish that if you loved them when you bought them you plan on loving them for a very long time afterward. =0)

Check out the recent Easter article about the bunnies at the ARL: hare care

Check out the recent Easter video from the ARL: Thinking Twice Before Buying 'Real' Easter...

Again ... Happy Easter Everyone! Enjoy the day with your family and friends!! Spring is in the air!

Loves, Jess
