Feasted On: Shifting Reality, Book 1

"My Shifter Showmance" [Shifting Reality, Book 1] by R. G. Alexander

My Book Summary : With the vampire craze that has hit the world Thomas Lyons (or Tomcat as his username states), who’s a cat shifter, feels that the world show be open to him coming out too. One day he starts a blog/website, that he calls Shifting Reality, where he rants about being a cat shifter in a human world – explaining all the positives and negatives of being who he is.

No one in Thomas’ life is off limits, which includes his two roommates: one is a vampire named Mac and the other is a half-demon named Saint. Soon the website it a hit, and branches out to include chat rooms and more. The thing that Thomas finds interesting is that the more truthful he is on the site the more people don’t believe it’s real. To prove to some of the fans the reality of the world they live in, he and his roommates put together a contest for nine human winners to stay a week in a haunted Scottish castle with them.

One of those winners is Margo, an office assistant living in LA and working for a boss that wants her to get the stars of Shifting Reality to sign a contract to make their blog series into a movie! However, Margo is not thrilled about the prospect of being on camera. The only reason she entered the contest is because she couldn’t get enough of Thomas and his postings. She never imagined she’d actually win! But now it’s either get these stars to sign this contract or loose her job. It’s a no brainer right? Wrong! Especially when the sexy star has only eyes for her it seems...

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! For a novella it has a wonderful plot - action packed and great romance scenes! The characters are represented in a place where all species seem to get along, which is a great new take for a paranormal fantasy. R. G. Alexander wrote another great one!

My Previous Review(s) for this Author : Wicked Sexy

Jennifer Crusie has taken a Classic story and put a new twist onto it in "The Cinderella Deal"! -- Daisy has been working as an artist/storyteller for 4 years now and she feels like she has nothing to show for it. Now that her savings has dwindled, she's looking for something that will help her pay her bills ... without taking any loans from her friends.

Linc has been trying to get this new position as a professor at college in Ohio. However, during his interview when asked if he was married he said, "No. But my fiancée and I are planning on getting married soon." Now the problem is he's in need of a fake fiancée (as he doesn't even have a girlfriend right now)! The first person that comes to mind that could help him out by lying to his potential employers, while not messing up their charade, is Daisy his downstairs apartment neighbor (who just happens to be his polar opposite).

Daisy and Linc agree to, what they call, their 'Cinderella Deal' where she'll help him out on that following Friday till midnight and then they'll fly back to where they live and go back to their lives. In return, Linc will pay for Daisy's expenses and take care of her debts.

The Deal seems to work ... and everything goes back to normal ... but when staff start questioning, "When's Daisy moving here?" and Linc can't seem to get his story straight ... Will they strike up another deal and go ahead and get married, just to please other people? When the whole charade is all said and done, will they be able to let each other go?

"Angel's Pain" [Wings in the Night Series, Book 15] by Maggie Shayne -- Briar has never been able to trust men, all because since she was 11 yrs old any man that got close to her has used her and/or abused her. So, she's made a point not to care for anyone and she has a long hit-list of those who've hurt her that she plans on making them pay. However, ever since she joined Reaper and his misfit gang of vampires who are also hunting her old mentor, Gregor, know matter how hard she tries to deny it she's opening up more to those around her. Especially now that she's trying to save Crisa (the vampire she has a blood bond with) who seems to have people talking to her in her mind and they now seem to possibly be controlling her. Just will she be able to save Crisa in time, also before Gregor happens to hunt her down instead ....

3 out of 5 stars. Good book -- however, since it was the last book in the series (so far) and this is the first book from the series that I've read it did become a little confusing but I was able to keep up with it for the most part. Definitely action packed!!

"Sleepless In Scotland" [MacLean Curse Series, Book 4] by Karen Hawkins -- Living in 1811 and being in London's High Society, have its consequences if you do not keep up decorum. This is what happens to Caitriona and Hugh when they try saving their siblings from themselves, however instead their plans backfire. Then they find themselves in compromising positions (at least for 1811), and since other people become aware of the situation they ended up in, the two are forced to marry each other.

Even though both do not want to marry each other, Caitriona tries to make the best of it, while Hugh tries to keep her from being as involved in his life as much as he can – especially when that means anything to with his daughters. Now with only a few months together (per Hugh’s “order”), so Caitriona can rebuild her reputation then move back into her family’s home, she has put up with the family she married into, that seems to not want her there, while trying to make them realize she is exactly what they needed. Will she succeed before it’s too late?

4 out of 5 stars. It's the first time I've read a book from this series and if this book is any estimation of the whole series then I would definitely recommend it to all of you! It was sweet, funny, and a great historical romance!!

"Hourglass" [Evernight series, Book 3] by Claudia Gray -- Would you be able to run away from everything you’ve known and held dear for the one you love? In this novel Bianca and Lucas try to accomplish exactly that.

At first they try to hide within the Black Cross organization, however when one of them is a born vampire trying to fit into a vampire hunting society can be harder then it seems.

When they assume nothing could get worse, Bianca and Lucas are tossed into the middle of another battle between both sides, then the Black Cross captures one of their friend’s as a prisoner, and they know it’s time to try to make it on their own. Luckily, some friends from low places help them here-and-there to get by. Yet since Bianca had decided never to become a full vampire they are still wondering what will happen to her now, especially as changes to her are slowly happening, it looks like they wont have to wait long to find the answer...

4 out of 5 stars! This is a great sequel to "Stargazer"! It had me laughing and crying when I least expected it. Bianca and Lucas are the epitome of Romeo and Juliet, and that made all the scenes that more enchanting to read. In addition, the novel has a great balance of the humor and serious sides of the storyline that make you want to keep reading. I just couldn't get enough and I can't wait until "Afterlife" comes out!!

"Perfect Strangers" by Jahnna N. Malcolm [aka Jahnna Beecham and Malcolm Hillgartner] -- Getting picked on in high school is never easy but having a humiliating event happen to you in front of the entire high school student body can be a catastrophe for any freshman. Madison had such an event happen to her during her freshman year Homecoming celebrations, and has been holding a grudge against Jeremy (the boy who put the catastrophe in motion) ever since.

Now almost three years later at the end of their junior years to major events are happening. One event being the school is starting a “pen pal” program. The program is set up so the students have been randomly matched with someone in their own grade so they might be able to share their inner most thoughts without reveling their identities to the other person. In a way the program make is so if anyone is having issues with something they’ll have someone who they can vent to who won’t be able to gossip about it to anyone else. With the program Madison is definitely reveling who she would truly like to be to her “pen pal”, more so then she has even told her friends, and is finding that they have more in common then she would have thought.

The second event is the election for Class Presidency is starting up, which is something that Madison has been wanting to win since her freshman year. The only problem is her enemy, Jeremy, is one of the people she is running up against. She hasn’t spoken to him or been around him since that time at the Homecoming Game and she doesn’t want to, but now there is no way to avoid it.

As the election heats up and Madison’s “pen pal” letters start heating up too. Will her “pen pal” finally be reveled? Will she win the class presidency? Dive into "Perfect Strangers" to find out all the juicy details!

4.5 out of 5 stars! It is a sweet YA book. For the short length of the book the characters are really well written and come together nicely! The book reminds me of Megan McCafferty’s Jessica Darling series, since you have the same type of main characters (the straight-laced girl and the slightly eccentric handsome guy) only with a shorter more straight-to-the-point plot.

The Immortals Series by Alyson Noel

    Pages: 320 | Release Date: February 2009

"evermore" [Immortals Series, Book 1] by Alyson Noel -- Ever has recently lost her parents, younger sister, and dog to a terrible car accident which she survived. Yet now she has the ability to hear the thoughts of those around her, except those of Damen the cute new boy in school, who seems to have some interesting abilities of his own, among them he's able to create tulips out of thin air. But as Damen gets closer to Ever someone from Damen's past would like nothing better then to rip them apart for good.

3 out of 5 stars. I read this because it was a recommendation for the other books I was reading at the time. And I liked it ... even though I think it could have been better.

    Pages: 304 | Release Date: July 2009

"blue moon" [Immortals Series, Book 2] by Alyson Noel -- Ever is now learning everything she can in becoming an immortal like Damen. However, as her powers start getting stronger, his own powers are weakening and he starts distancing himself from her. Now the only way she can save him is by going to Summerland and seeing if there is anything to help him. But once she gets there will she choose to still be help save Damen or will she try to rewrite her past and try saving her family instead?

2.5 out of 5 stars. It was an okay squeal ... but I really hated the ending!!

    Pages: 368 | Release Date: November 2009

"shadowland" [Immortals Series, Book 3] by Alyson Noel -- This description is taken from Alyson's website since I couldn't even finish the book: Ever and Damen have traveled through countless past lives—and fought off the world's darkest enemies—so they could be together forever. But just as their long-awaited destiny is finally within reach, a powerful curse falls upon that could destroy everything. Now a single touch of their hands or a soft brush of their lips could mean sudden death—plunging Damen into a bleak afterlife in the Shadowland, an eternal abyss for lost souls. Desperate to break the curse and save Damen, Ever immerses herself in magick—and gets help from an unexpected source...Jude Knight.

Although she and Jude have only just met, he feels startlingly familiar. Despite her fierce loyalty to Damen, Ever is drawn to Jude, a green-eyed golden boy with magical talents and a mysterious past. She's always believed Damen to be her soul mate and one true love—and she still believes it to be true. But as Damen pulls away to save them from the darkness inhabiting his soul, Ever's connection with Jude grows stronger—and tests her love for Damen like never before...

1 out of 5 stars. OK I'll admit it ... I tried to read this book but I just couldn't get past the first two chapters. =0P So I gave up ... especially after I've read other reviews saying stuff like's A. Jackson who said, "Again, like at the end of the second book, I felt this book went nowhere. Ever and Damen's relationship has not progressed one bit since the end of the first book." So ... as I said I gave up, it just couldn't keep my interest and if they aren't going to move forward in the plot then I think it's a waste of a book.

I think I might be finished with this series unless the next book is drastically better. *shrug* Have you read this series? If so, what did you think of it?

For more information on this book, series and/or any of Alyson's other books, then please check out her website.

Check your local bookstores since you may or may not be able to get Elizabeth Scott's new book right now.

I say this because ..... I have pre-ordered Elizabeth Scott's latest book called "The Unwritten Rule" last week (since Elizabeth along with everyone else said it would be released on March 16th) ... so I went into my local bookstore today to pick it up (along with another book that just came out) and they told me that the release date isn't until April 6th or at least they aren't able to sell it to me until then. =0/ So, if you have yet to pick up your copy then I recommend you calling your local bookstore to see when they'll be getting it in.

I mean, at least I'm getting the book at some point so I'm not upset about the situation at all but it kinda stinks all the same. =0P

Anyway ... if you have it already ... you lucky dog you. *hehee*

They are hunting Dayan because of who he is and Corinne (now a widow) because previous husband talked unknowingly to the wrong people about their abilities.

Will they make it? Read to find out …

4 out of 5 stars! This is the first book I've read from this series and I am a little addicted already to how the author shaped the tale. I hope the others are just as good. I loved Dayan & Corinne as a couple! They were soo cute! Great plot! I liked how the writing flowed from one persons thoughts to the next like you were watching a movie - very clever!

"Bending the Rules" [Sisterhood Diaries series] by Susan Andersen -- Jase is a 'don't bend or brake the rules' kind of detective. He has to be with his family history of living in and out of the slammer, so he knows what it takes to stay on that straight and narrow path. And one of those is staying away from Poppy. Jase believes her to be a rich girl who really doesn't do a lot with her life. But in reality Poppy grew up in a hippie commune and does more for underprivileged teenagers then she does for herself. When a group of teens tag the buildings of the businesses that Poppy works for, she asks that instead of sending the teens to juve have them fix up the buildings by painting them again and creating a mural in a group that she'll monitor. Now that it's been approved and Detective Jase is told to keep tabs on the group too, how long will they be able to stay apart for?

1.5 out of 5 stars! Good plot! I liked some of the characters. However .... I was so bored with it I couldn't finish the book ... I ended it on page 224. The novel had to many subplots that it makes it overly slow. Then when I put the book down for the night or whatever it could take a full day or so just for me to get back to it again ... and that was only because I was forcing myself to try to finish it.

You might have better luck and actually like the book ... but it definitely was not the book for me.

So, she sells her locket, talks to a lawyer, and sues her parents for the rights to her own body. The only question now is how much more can this family take and will this act of freedom/survival (or whatever you want to call it) tare this family apart?

5 out of 5 stars! Written from the point-of-view of everyone involved with this case made me love the book even more. For anyone who would like to read a story about the love family's can share. It was touching ... moving ... made me cry like a baby ... and I would definitely read it again!

Likenesses Between the Movie & Book:
    • They both made me cry like a baby at the end of them!
    • Both portrayed the touching relationships between the characters.
Differences Between the Movie & Book:
    • They have different endings from each other.
      • Truthfully I like both the movie and the book and their endings ... and it could be because I read the book in July of 2009 and I just watched the movie ... but I liked the book's ending better.
    • The courtroom scene is different in the movie compared to the book.
      • Again I liked the book's scene better
That's just me though ... you might like the movie's version better. *shrug* Either way .. comment and let me know what you thought of either or both of them.

"Dreamfever" [Fever Series, Book 4] by Karen Marie Moning -- Mac starts finally getting answers to some of the questions that have been haunting her.She learns a bit about whom her birth mother was, the illusive Lord Master divulges to her about his relationship with her sister, and she starts growing into her sidhe-seer senses.

However, when she learns more about the prophesy (which seems everyone but her knows the details about), she finds that she’s scared to grow more into her sidhe-seer senses as some say she might end up dooming the world instead of saving it.

In addition, during a time when Barrons is saving Mac they get closer, the only problem is he’s still not giving up his secrets (especially the details of whom or what he is) and that could break their partnership for good.

4.5 out of 5 stars!! Karen just kept pulling out all the stops in this novel, making it highly action packed! I will say that I was sad at the very end and I hope that everything gets fixed at the beginning of the next book. *crossing fingers* I cannot wait for "Shadowfever" (the final fifth novel) to come out in December 2010!

    • About Mac:
      • I still think she's part fae!
      • Possibly she is the reincarnated version of the Unseelie King's concubine?

    Pages: 327 | Release Date: September 16, 2008

"Faefever" [Fever Series, Book 3] by Karen Marie Moning -- In this third novel, the Sinsar Dubh (a million-year-old book that has the power to control what happens in both the Fae and human worlds) is getting closer to Mac, the only problem is in doing so she's finding that this might be more then just a book. Now she's trying to create a bigger playing field for herself by trying not to put all of her eggs in one basket. She's doing this by looking for other ways to find the book and to find information on the things/people she doesn't know much about, which sadly is just about everything...

Again ... 5 out of 5 stars!! Plenty of twists and turns to keep your attention! For the ending, all I can really say is: WOW! I just can’t believe it went there, and I can’t wait to see what will happen to Mac next!

    Jessica's Musings:
    • About Mac:
      • I have been wondering if she might be part Fae [sometimes I think from the Seelie Court].
      • Maybe that old women is related to her somehow? Or possibly the old women killed her birth mother?
      • Is Mac's birth mother the women from her dreams? I think it's a possibility.
    • Who or what is Jericho Barrons?
      1. He's that boy that Mac found the notes written from/about.
      2. He's a vampire. [I have many reasons for this ... but to sum it up I'll say he behaves like one.]
      3. He's the Unseelie King.
      4. He's BOTH my first and third predictions.

    Pages: 304 | Release Date: October 16, 2007

"Bloodfever" [Fever Series, Book 2] by Karen Marie Moning -- In this second novel, Mac is still racking up the number of people who are out to get her or who would love to blame her for any kind of wrongdoing. After recovering from her first fight with Mallacé, Mac has to deal with a vengeful woman, a seductive Fae prince, two curious cops, a merciless brother-of-a-mobster, a distraught father, and more all while still looking for the Sinsar Dubh (a million-year-old book that has the power to control what happens in both the Fae and human worlds). However, Mac isn’t as sweet as she originally was and has learned more about herself to stand up to those who’re out against her, along with possibly seeing whom she can trust. The only problem is everyone keeps changing out of the roles she wants to appointed them and it may be hard to keep up with whom is on what side of the good-versus-bad line, especially when everything isn’t always black and white.

5 out of 5 stars!! Sooo much better then the first book! Mac has developed into a great character! Plus ... my biggest issue with the first novel was all of the foreshadowing that made pauses throughout it, which is completely solved in this second novel. I mean there is foreshadowing still but the story keeps flowing around it, which I tremendously enjoyed! =0)

"Graffiti Girl" by Kelly Parra ~~ Angel is an artist or at least that is her big dream in life. But when the results of a school competition turn out that she's not on the winning committee, she gets mad and feels hurt .... not thinking her style is good enough. Then Migel -- leader of a graffiti crew called Reyes Del Norte -- shows her his world of art, turf wars, and crew life. She just can't leave behind who she used to be though, and now she's torn between two worlds and two guys. With both worlds and guys being so different she'll have to decide what path will be the one for her ... and just possibly find herself in the process.

2.5 out of 5 stars. It's a teen romp that has bold characters but falls a little flat during the plot (at least for me). So slow-paced that I had to force myself to finish the book. Good ending but it could have been better.

"My Sunshine" [Coulter Family series, Book 6] by Catherine Anderson -- Five years ago, Laura was in a swimming accident where she hit her head on a rock and it changed her life completely. Now, she has come to terms with her disability (aphasia) but would still love to get some type of a normal life back. 3 out of 5 stars. Well written, even if I haven't read the rest of the series I still understood the plot perfectly. What Laura and Isaiah have is a sweet romance, which is a good change-of-pace to read.
