The Books I'm Thankful For (so far) in 2020

It is Thanksgiving Day (the USA version of it at least) today! The tradition on my blog is to post a list of ALL the books I've read thus far this year that I've given my highest ratings to (5 out of 5 stars) today, which means I'm VERY Thankful for finding/reading them!

HOWEVER -- and it is a BIG HOWEVER -- this year has been hard for everyone. Myself included when it comes to promoting the books I have been reviewing. As if you look at my 2017 & 2018 Thankful Book Lists you'll see within my top write-up (like this one) that I say something along the lines of "because of life I have reviews but have yet to fully post them yet." This year is a LITTLE different because though ... that is still true ... my reviews ARE backlogged ... I had a catastrophe in March 2020 where I LOST ALL OF MY PREVIOUS REVIEWS. Yeah. If you want to hear ALL about it click here. BUT for 2020 specifically I was trying gather some "reading stats" for you, so out of those 19 books I know that 5 that I have no reviews for need to be on this list because I had rated them 5 out of 5 stars!

Yes this list is odd BUT other than the top three books within this list the others DO have reviews for them -- FULL REVIEWS COMING SOON -- so CHECK IT OUT! I DO RECOMMEND ALL OF THESE NOVELS!!

➡️ Also for the THIRD year running I have a We Are Thankful For Books collab video (at the bottom of this post) for you. In the video you'll see 5 Youtubers (including myself) talk about the books they are thankful for reading this year. Enjoy! 📚🥧

Here are Jess' 5 Star Reads listed in the order of when she read them in 2020 ::
  1. "Ninja on the Job" [Moby Shinobi Series] by Luke Flowers: 5 out of 5 stars!

[This children's book is one I read with my kids and we all enjoyed it. However, my original review for it was lost.]

  2. "The Amish Teacher's Dilemma" [North Country Amish Series, Book 3] by Patricia Davids: 5 out of 5 stars!

[This is one that I lost my original review for BUT had a rating for still. The plan is to reread it at some point and review it again.]

  3. "Sext Addict" by Virna DePaul: 5 out of 5 stars!

[This is one that I lost my original review for BUT had a rating for still. The plan is to reread it at some point and review it again.]

  4. "Rock On" [The Rockstars of Hollywood Hill Series, Book 1] by E. M. Moore: 5 out of 5 stars! Aisley feels like she is getting the chance of a lifetime with her new summer job working for a popular rock band but she soon learns that she’s walking into a place where there are secrets everywhere and she isn’t wanted ….

So, this was a novel I first read on February 2020 and enjoyed but because of certain events I lost my original book review and rating for this novel. Though I do not remember what my original rating was, I can honestly tell you I didn’t rate it higher than 4 stars … therefore during this reread I enjoyed this novel a whole lot more. I cannot even tell you why ... [Jess' COMPLETE Book Review will be COMING SOON please STAY TUNED!]

  5. "Bait N' Witch" [Brimstone Inc. Series, Book 3] by Abigail Owen: 5 out of 5 stars … this is book 3 within its series but it is also a believable standalone that hooked me from its beginning!

With Rowan’s fiery nature breaking through all of Greyson (Grey) and his triplet tween-aged daughters’ barriers, I find it hard to imagine that this novel could disappoint anyone. All the characters come to life in this ... [Jess' COMPLETE Book Review will be COMING SOON please STAY TUNED!]

  6. "The Siren and the Deep Blue Sea" [Embraced by Magic Series, Book 2] & [The Embraced Series, Book 5] by Kerrelyn Sparks: 5 out of 5 stars! This is book 5 in Kerrelyn Sparks’ The Embraced series yet even though this novel wraps up all that happened within the series this is also a standalone read so for those, like me, who had not read any of the prior novels!

This novel enthralled me from the beginning. In addition, this novel felt like a Game of Thrones style read because of the multiple perspectives, intriguing ... [Jess' COMPLETE Book Review will be COMING SOON please STAY TUNED!]

  7. "The Nanny's Double Trouble" [The Bravos of Valentine Bay Series, Book 1] by Christine Rimmer: 5 out of 5 stars! Life has been tough for Daniel. Now a year and a half after his wife’s death, his wife’s cousin Keely moves in with hopes to help him take care of his toddler twins. What they both don’t expect is for their lives to completely change as feelings emerge…

When I first acquired this novel, I got reeled in by the twins on the book cover and the book’s description. Yet, since I am a mood reader, other novels pushed me off from reading it right away and now I am made at myself. I am mad that it took me two years to pick up and read/review this novel. Mad that I could have enjoyed this novel a whole lot sooner. This novel is full of sweet characters who ... [Jess' COMPLETE Book Review will be COMING SOON please STAY TUNED!]

  8. "My Last Duchess" [The Wildes of Lindow Castle Series, Book 0.5] by Eloisa James: 5 out of 5 stars! Hugo, a Duke, claims Ophelia (Phee) as his new Duchess but the question is, will she accept?

I LOVED THIS NOVEL!! From Ms. James’ website I found that because this novel is a “prequel” to her Wildes of Lindow Castle Series that was "previously titled "Wilde Denial." This was a serialized novella available exclusively to Eloisa’s newsletter subscribers that is now a stand-alone book." As this was a series I had yet to read any of the previous novels for, which are all about the Wilde children, I was definitely interested in learning about the matriarch & patriarch of the Wilde family before ... 9. "When the Earl Met His Match" [Wedded by Scandal Series, Book 4] by Stacy Reid: 5 out of 5 stars!!! Playful banter. Understanding characters. Winning hearts. This novel has it all!

Confession time … this novel is the fourth in its series but the first one that I had read. I did not feel lost. I enjoyed a majority of the characters that were involved. In addition, the plot was amazing!!! Love ... [Jess' COMPLETE Book Review will be COMING SOON please STAY TUNED!]

  10. "The Heiress Gets a Duke" [The Gilded Age Heiresses Series, Book 1] by Harper St. George: 5 out of 5 stars! Unique circumstances throw together August & Evan. However, will they try to make the best of the situation or find ways to “be free” from each other?

While this novel’s premise is a typical one (destitute Duke seeks bride, who is from a rich family), I LOVED Ms. St. George’s take on it. We have two characters who are technically perfect for each other but because of what is being pushed upon them they do their best to resist their true feelings. And … oh my god … it’s good! I loved ... [Jess' COMPLETE Book Review will be COMING SOON please STAY TUNED!]

  11. "Wings of Ice" [Protected by Dragons Series, Book 1] by G. Bailey: 5 out of 5 stars!! OMG … this novel YES!!! It is one that I picked up in 2018 and had read the whole series before, like I plan on doing now, in rapid succession. However, because of life I lost all of my original book reviews for them so here we go for this reread! I finished this novel, and I am truly excited to get back into it all. The drama is INTENSE in this one, but the romantic intrigue builds itself up so much that I could not stop myself from reading it in one straight setting.

Watching Isola (Issy), Korbin (Kor), Dagan, Elias (Eli), and Thorne fall for one another, again ... [Jess' COMPLETE Book Review will be COMING SOON please STAY TUNED!]

  12. "Wings of Spirit" [Protected by Dragons Series, Book 3] by G. Bailey: 5 out of 5 stars! This novel follows immediately after “Wings of Fire,” book 2 in the series, and while the curse gets dealt with and romances get more intense the whole of Dragca seems to implode.

There is so much of this novel that I cannot discuss with you. As I don’t want to give anything away. This novel makes me ... [Jess' COMPLETE Book Review will be COMING SOON please STAY TUNED!]

So this year started with my usual mixture of sweet reads to smutty reads but than with the "review disaster" I find I have been mostly reading either paranormal, reverse harem couplings, or historical romances. As it reflects in my five star winners that I'm recommending above too.

🤩 Now without further ado I invite you to watch my collab video that goes along with this book list:
