"The Next Best Thing" by Kristan Higgins is sweet ... heartwarming ... and also a major tear-jerker! Lucy lost the love of her life, 5 and a half years ago, to a car accident. Still living with the great sense of loss .... she finally decides that she would still like to have a family of her own. But she wants someone who isn’t perfect, meaning: a nice man, not-to-handsome, would make a good father, and most importantly someone who won’t make her give her whole heart to him. As she’s already dealt with as much pain as she thinks she can deal with ... she doesn’t want to go through that loss again. This means she’s going to have to give up Ethan, her dead husband’s younger brother, who’s her friend-with-benefits. However, Ethan won’t be pushed aside so easily ...3.5 out of 5 stars. I meant what I said ... it's heartwarming and a very sweet book about how love can heal the soul. Yet I didn't completely expect to be crying so much while reading it. =0P
