Fantasy & Paranormal Main Characters | Ongoing Book List

Are you looking to read about a certain type of paranormal? Well, Jess is NOW sorting & listing all of her novels by what type they are! These are only listed if the main characters within the novel Jess has read are a certain type of paranormal race. And yes sometimes you will see a novel listed twice depending on what the main characters are, as some could be more than one type of paranormal or there could be more than one paranormal main character. Please save this link so you'll be able to come back to check out the list as it grows and updates along the way. This list started compiling at the beginning of 2019 but when Jess has time she will be adding her older reviewed novels as well.

Feasted On: A Goblin Wars Book, Book 1

Format: Paperback | Pages: 304 | Release Date: November 2010 | Publisher: Clarion Books

"Tyger Tyger" [A Goblin Wars Book, Book 1] by Kersten Hamilton ( I read this as a part of We Love YA! A young adult arc tour site)

My Book Summary : Teagan has her summer (and her future) all mapped out, but when her "cousin" Finn moves into her house those plans suddenly change. The day before Finn shows up Teagan's best friend Abby tells her that she needs to be careful because she had a dream where a bunch of goblins (like the ones in Teagan's mothers story books .. and worse) are going to be coming after Teagan soon. When she is told this she laughs it off, but when Finn shows up and explains he's the Mac Camhaill (the last in his family line that's a goblin hunter), Teagan starts to rethink about what her friend told her. Then, not long after Finn stays, there she starts to see some goblins/sidhe of her own that hurt some small animals she works with at the zoo to her own mother.

Finn blames himself and leaves. However, when summer is over Finn returns because of a request from his grandmother. But once he shows up, he realizes he can't complete his request and has to take Teagan and her little brother Aiden back to his grandmother's place to get help. And in doing so, they set out on an adventure/rescue mission that will change Teagan's life for forever ....

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars!! After waiting for this book for a while ... and reading the book's description again and again ... I wasn't sure I was going to like this book ... however, as soon as I started reading it I was pleasantly surprised and got addicted to the storyline, the characters, and everything right away. Teagan learns about herself in this book and grows as a character more so then I would have thought. Aiden is adorable ... I would love to hear him sing! And Finn is the bad boy with the kind soul you would just love to have him all to yourself. *sigh*

So ... if you’re a fan of myth, magic, and YA romance then this is the book for you!! It was a great new take on fairies/goblins, angels, and all of the mythical beings that have been written about lately! I cannot wait to see where the author will take this series! =0)

Book Teaser(s) :
"'Rain or shine'?"
"That's the way it sounds." Raynor nodded. "But not the way it's spelled." He showed Aiden his badge.
Aiden studied the letters, and then the man's face. "I can't read. What did you eat for dinner last night?"
"Me?" Raynor said. "Pizza."
"Did you find it in a Dumpster?"
Teagan pinched him, and he whirled to look at her.
Don't talk about that, she signed. All they needed was for Aiden to tell this guy they'd slept in a ditch and eaten from a Dumpster. He'd have cops waiting for them in Gary. ~ within Chapter 12

Feasted On: The Iron Fey Series, Book 2

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 369 KB | Release Date: July 2010 | Publisher: Harlequin Teen

"The Iron Daughter" [The Iron Fey Series, Book 2] by Julie Kagawa

My Book Summary : Meghan is at it again ... now after traveling from her home to the Winter Court (in "Winter's Passage") with Prince Ash, he seems to be no where in site leaving her to fend for herself amongst a court where everyone hates her (it seems). Including Ash himself, as she finds out while she is fending off an attack from his older brother, Rowan, Ash states that he wants nothing to do with her. With despair around her heart, she awaits for the exchange of the Scepter of the Seasons from the Seelie Court to the Unseelie Court. Once the exchange comes she finds herself in a whole lot of trouble, with the Iron fey sneaking into the Winter Court to steal in Scepter right from under their noses. However, since she was there when the thievery took place Queen Mab believes she had something to do with it and plans to go to war with the Summer Court because of it.

After this announcement from Queen Mab, Ash seems to do a 180° and tries to help Meghan escape from the Winter Court, which consequently makes him a traitor to his people. So, now they're both on the run in search of the Scepter of Seasons to get it back from the Iron fey and to return it to Queen Mab.

However, whom will help them? Will they get it in time before the war starts and the Iron fey can do more harm to Nevernever? Will Ash's feelings for Meghan return?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! ♥ Okay ... it had a slow start but I really enjoyed it in the end. All-in-all Ash threw me for a loop with everything he did in this book. And with all the new things happening to Meghan I cannot wait to see what will happen in book 3!!! Poor Puck -- that guy seems to always get the short end of the stick. =0( BTW -- I love Ethan he's soo sweet!

My Previous Review(s) for this Series : Book 1 | Novella 1

Book Teaser(s) :
"We can't worry about that now." I shook off his hand. "The scepter is more important. Besides, that's what I have you for." I smiled at him, and turned to Ironhorse. "All right, Ironhorse. We have a deal. Take us to the scepter."
"Finally." Grimalkin stood and stretched, bottlebrush tail curling over his back. "You make decisions as slowly as you answer Summonings, human. I do hope this will not become a habit."
"Wait. You're coming, too? Why?"
"I am bored." Grimalkin waved his tail languidly. "And you are always entertaining...except when I am waiting for you to arrive, of course. Besides, the lieutenant and I have business, as well." ~ within Chapter 10

What was I thinking?: Sunshine by Robin McKinley

Format: Hardcover | Pages: 389 | Release Date: October 2003 | Publisher: Berkley

"Sunshine" by Robin McKinley

What was I thinking? : That I liked the review I read on the The Compulsive Reader about this book, and I hoped I would like it too.

My Book Summary : This book is a futuristic fantasy where money is now called "blinks", sorcerers/were-"Animals"/Vampires and more are real, and the government has a society called the Special Others Force (SOF) who keep everyone with a special ability or those who are partbloods (part demon, part human, part sorcerer, etc) registered and controlled --- while on the path to kill every known vampire they come across. But life is not as good as it all seems .... which is what Sunshine (aka Rae) is starting to figure out. She has grown up being "her mother's daughter" which means being as normal as she can be ... she was an average teenager growing up and now she works at the family restaurant as the head pastry chef, known best for her cinnamon buns -- which are supposedly bigger then the size of your head.

One night after work and instead of attending her family's Monday movie night (as celebration of surviving another week), she drives up to her family's old lake house to get away for a bit and enjoy the piece and quiet. What she didn't expect was to be ambushed by a gang of vampires, dragged to a mansion on the other side of the lake, and chained to the wall of the ballroom waiting for her death to come. However, she realizes shortly after that she isn't alone, Constantine (aka Con), a vampire too, is a prisoner as well and she is there so tempt him into killing her. As her luck would have it Con doesn't want to "let his enemy win" by killing her, so she makes it through the night, but when morning comes it is her who has to help him make it through the day....

My Book Review : 1.5 out of 5 stars. Okay ... I LOVED the plot, the main characters, and the world that the author created!! All very good and just for that I would recommend it for all to read too! However, the reason I have given this book such a low score was because the narrator (Sunshine) rambled like there was no tomorrow! I could have screamed sometimes with how it went from the present situation she would be in, then the next minute she would be talking about things that really had nothing to do with what was going on at the time, and some didn't even make since with the plot. In truth I'm surprised I even finished the book, especially since I liked the book (for the most part) when I was reading it, but as soon as I put it down I had to convince myself to pick it back up again .... since I did want to find out how the book would turn out and end. Also, even though I liked the ending, there was too many loose strings so it felt a little incomplete. *shrug* But that may be just me.

Book Teaser(s) :
"I have learned what will work, if anything will."
"And what if it doesn't work?"
"Then both of us end our existence tonight," he said in that impassive we're-chained-to-the-wall-and-the-bad-guys-are-coming voice I remembered to well.
Oh gee. Don't pull your punches like that. I can take the truth, really I can. I said something like, "Unnngh."
"I believe it will work."
"I'm delighted to hear it." ~ within Part Two

Feasted On: The Iron Fey Series, Novella 1

Format: Kindle Edition | File Size: 211 KB | Release Date: June 2010 | Publisher: Harlequin Teen

"Winter's Passage" [The Iron Fey Series, Novella 1] by Julie Kagawa

My Book Summary : After rescuing her little brother Ethan from the Iron King's clinches, Meghan is off on a new adventure, but an adventure that she would rather not complete. The only thing that makes her go along with Prince Ash, of the Winter Court, back to his court is the sense of duty and the fact that she made a contract with him about doing so. However, as they go on they find they have a hunter after them, that will try to get to them at all costs....

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! It was a great interluding book to build up to what will happen in the "The Iron Daughter"! Cute and sweet. Makes you wonder what will happen once they arrive at the Winter Court, will Ash still protect her or will he just allow whatever the queen plans to have happen, happen?

My Previous Review(s) for this Series : Book 1

Book Teaser :
"The cold has her." Grimalkin's voice seemed to come from far away. "She is already icing over. If you do not get her up now, she will die."
My eyelids were slipping shut, even though I tried keeping them open. If they closed, they would freeze and stay shut forever. I tried using my fingers to pry them open by force, but a layer of ice now covered my hands and I couldn't feel them anymore. ~ within Chapter 3

Made the Grade: The Highlander Series, Book 7

Format: Paperback | Pages: 395 | Release Date: June 2006 | Publisher: Dell Books

"Spell of the Highlander" [The Highlander Series, Book 7] by Karen Marie Moning

My Book Summary : Who knew that helping her boss, while he was in the hospital, would change Jessica's life forever ....

All she had to do was sign for a package that was being delivered late at night at the university she worked for and the item needed just be delivered and locked up in her boss’s office, then she could go. However, fate stepped in instead ...

What she didn't know at the time was that inside the mirror lived a ninth century Highland Warrior, named Cian, who would do anything to get out of there and the only thing he needed was her. The only problem was would she really believe what she was seeing before the person who was after the mirror came to get it and killed her in the process. So, now this Highlander offers her his protection if she offers hers in return.

Will Jessi be able to accept the impossible and while chaos happens in the process still be able to not loose her heart to this hunk of a man ...

My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars. Not as good of storyline as I had hoped. However, the characters were cute and I couldn't get enough of them. I love the world that Ms. Moning has come up with for this series and her Fever series, especially how they both intertwine together! In this book you'll learn more background information that you didn't know about if you've only read the Fever series, so I could recommend reading this book just for that alone! I can't wait to see what will be in store next!

My Previous Review(s) for this Series : Book 1 | Book 6

My Previous Review(s) for this Author : Darkfever | Bloodfever | Faefever | Dreamfever

Book Teaser :
"Well, if he's a Druid-turned-dark-sorcerer and you're just a Druid, and a Druid-turned-dark-sorcerer is so much more powerful, then just how do you plan to defeat---oh! Crimeny! Shit!"
Understanding belatedly dawning, she backpedaled away from him, butting up against the rain-slicked side of the car parked parallel to hers. "I can be so dense sometimes," she breathed. "Because you're one of the bad guys, too, aren't you? You turned dark sorcerer, too, didn't you? It's the only way it makes sense."
His whisky eyes narrowed. "Get in the car, Jessica," he said softly. ~ within Chapter 12

  • Today's "Waiting On" Wednesday by Jill - click here

  • "Shadowfever" [Fever Series, Book 5] by Karen Marie Moning
Publication Released Date: December 7, 2010

    Book Description:
MacKayla Lane was just a child when she and her sister, Alina were given up for adoption and banished from Ireland forever.

Twenty years later, Alina is dead and Mac has returned to the country that expelled them to hunt her sister's murderer. But after discovering that she descends from a bloodline both gifted and cursed, Mac is plunged into a secret history: an ancient conflict between humans and immortals that have lived concealed among us for thousands of years.

What follows is a shocking chain of events with devastating consequences, and now Mac struggles to cope with grief, while continuing her mission to acquire and control the Sinsar Dubh--a book of dark, forbidden magic scribed by the mythical Unseelie King that contains the power to create and destroy worlds.

In an epic battle between humans and Fae, the hunter becomes the hunted when the Sinsar Dubh turns on Mac, and begins mowing a deadly path through those she loves.

Who can she turn to? Who can she trust? Who is the woman that haunts her dreams? More importantly, who is Mac and what is the destiny she glimpses in the black and crimson designs of an ancient tarot card?

From the luxury of the Lord Master's penthouse, to the sordid depths of an Unseelie nightclub, from the erotic bed of her lover, to the terrifying bed of the Unseelie King, Mac's journey will force her to face the truth of her exile, and make a choice that will either save the world...or destroy it.

I fell in love with this series after randomly picking up "Dreamfever" at the library. I cannot WAIT until this for this conclusion novel to the series!! I hope that Jericho & Mac will get together and STAY together! And I really hope that Jericho is okay ....

Feasted On: Sookie Stackhouse / Southern Vampire Series, Book 10

Format: Hardcover | Pages: 311 | Release Date: May 2010 | Publisher: ACE

"Dead in the Family" [Sookie Stackhouse / Southern Vampire Series, Book 10] by Charlaine Harris

My Book Summary : Things seem to be going well for Sookie, even though she has to heal from her major wounds from the war, people she grew close to passed away while trying to protect her, and now her roommate is moving out. But just as things seem to improve ... and her relationship with Eric is going so well ... other people step in and try to mess up Sookie's life, in more ways then one. She has to put up with her cousin Claude asking to move in with her, having Alcide's wolf pack using her property (with her permission), having to deal with her "father-in-law" (aka Eric's maker) coming into town with a new young protégée, and more fae and vampires out to get her. Will one of them finally succeed?

My Book Review : 4.5 out of 5 stars! Charlaine has done it again!! This Sookie Stackhouse novel is one of the best thus far, with all of the drama that they usually entail, but included with new characters and plots that I didn't see coming! I recommend this book and series to anyone that likes reading paranormal! Plus ... I LOVE how she has created Eric and Sookie's relationship, since they make such a good couple ... so far.
