Made the Grade: Just Imagine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

My Book Summary : This is a historic romance book that was set in a time period right after the American Civil War (also known as the War Between the States) happened. A time where the south was still smarting at being told what they could do with their property/possessions. Also, it was time where women had no rights unless they were single/spinsters.
For Kit (Katharine Louise) she was an eighteen-year-old girl from South Carolina, who has lost all of her family and just found out that a Mr. Baron Cain just got ownership of her family's plantation (Risen Glory). She is more tomboy then debutante. Also, she plans on killing Mr. Cain if it the last thing she does. So, she takes a train to New York City, finds Cain's residence, and plans on tracking his moves to find the best opportunity. However, she doesn't expect to get caught on her first night of hiding on his property by Cain himself! She decides to say she was looking for a job, and with her appearance -- looking like a fourteen-year-old boy, she gets hired as Cain's new stable boy.
Kit only has a week before she needs to leave so she tries to do what she told (for the most part), even if her mouth (with all the cussing, etc) gets away from her. But soon both of them are in for a shock -- Cain finds out that he's the owner of Risen Glory, that his stable boy is actually an eighteen-year-old girl with plans to murder him, but they both find that along with the plantation he has become the guardian of Kit until she turns 23 years old and can gain her inheritance or she marries (which she has no intention in ever doing).
So now instead of killing him, since Kit decides she just can't do that, she plans to do everything within her power to get her beloved home back from this handsome and dangerous man. What links will both of them go to keep their pride at all costs? Read to find out ...
My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars! I don't read many historical romances (or if I do most are set in England, not America), but for the setting I feel this book was very cute and true to that time period ... while sticking to how this author writes her stories best! I was kind of disappointed with how the characters played out the situations ... and the ending felt a little too rushed. But all in all since from what I've read this was the authors first books, I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of hers like I am! =0)

Made the Grade: Lady Be Good by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

My Book Summary : Kenny is going through some bad luck recently ... first his manager gets caught using his money in illegal drug dealings, because of what his manager did the PGA commissioner (Dallie Beaudine - who's also a friend) tells him that he will be suspended from the golf tour (including the Masters) for two weeks (hoping he'll straighten out his life), then he gets into a fist fight with a news anchor -- and even though the news anchor threw the first punch -- Kenny takes the blame, and now for the next two weeks during his suspension Kenny needs to cater to Lady Emma Wells-Finch (a friend of Dallie's wife Francesca from England) while she's visiting Texas. What could go wrong??
Well, just about anything and everything for Kenny ... especially when Emma tells him that during her time in Texas she needs (and wants) to do her best in ruining her reputation, just when he's trying his best to clean his own reputation up. Will Kenny be able to control this new little (wannabe) hell raiser before he loses everything?? Or will he be a victim of her charm and get more than he bargained for?
My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars! I loved "Fancy Pants" -- I was so excited to read this story ("Lady Be Good") since it takes the main characters from "Fancy Pants" and made them secondary characters in this one ..... and when it's done right just makes it all the better! Lady Emma and Kenny have a good relationship and I love reading the chemistry between them. However, I think the end was a little rushed for me. But I did like how their final argument played out!! If you are a fan of Susan Elizabeth Phillips' books (and have read "Fancy Pants") then I highly recommend reading this one! Especially with "Call Me Irresistible" coming out in early 2011, which is about Ted's love life (who's the child from the main characters of "Fancy Pants" and play a secondary role in this book too).

"Waiting On" Wednesday: Call Me Irresistible

I’ve been trying to write this book for years, but I made a serious (and ultimately fortunate) miscalculation. I assumed Ted’s perfect match would be Lucy Jorik from "FIRST LADY". You all loved the idea as much as I did. The only thing was... I couldn’t write the book. They were both so mature, so smart, so completely together. And, ultimately, so boring. They each deserved something more than a humdrum match.
I set aside “Ted’s Book” to mull it over and began working on "WHAT I DID FOR LOVE", and that was when it happened.
- Meg Koranda exploded into the room like a frisky young greyhound who’d been kicked out of obedience school so many times that her owners had given up trying to train her. In this case, her owners were her adoring parents, screen legend Jake Koranda and Fleur Savagar, the Glitter Baby.... ...Meg was spoiled and impulsive, five-feet-ten-inches of good times, good intentions, good heart, and almost total irresponsibility in her quest to outrun her famous parents’ legacies....
What about our beloved Lucy Jorik? That’s when things got really interesting, but this letter has gone on long enough. Ted and Meg’s book is everything I hoped it would be, and I’m already hard at work on Lucy’s story. You’re going to have to trust me when I tell you that I’ve made the right matches.
I know you’d all like to have "CALL ME IRRESISTIBLE" available right now instead of waiting until early 2011. Yes, it’s done, but you all know how slow I am. The publisher didn’t receive the revised manuscript until March, and they need a bit of time to put it into production.
Thank you all for feeling so passionately about these characters and their stories. And now... Back to work.

I CANNOT WAIT for this book to come out! I absolutely LOVED "Fancy Pants" & "Glitter Baby", and to have their kids come together!! YAY!! I mean I feel bad for Lucy but since I haven't read "First Lady" (and I'm not sure if I ever will) you could say that I'm a little biased. *hehee*

Feasted On: Chicago Stars Series, Book 4

My Book Summary : This book picks up just about 8 months after Book 3 in this series left off. Rachel Stone is coming back to Salvation, North Carolina; the town that she never believed she would return too. Especially after her televangelist husband fled the country so the police couldn't arrest him and died in a plane crash. However, before he died he made certain that everyone believed his wife was the one who swayed his ways to do the "devils deeds" by giving her whatever she wanted and dipping into his church funds to do so.
Since then she has changed her last name back to her maiden name and tried to make ends meat for her five-year-old son and herself. But now she's at the end of her rope and came back to the town thinking that she might be able to find where the missing money her husband stashed was so she will be able to finally settle down in a small house and put the rest of the money aside for her son's future.
In doing so, she runs into Gabe Bonner (Cal's brother), who is trying to work through his own demons (dealing with the fact that he lost both his wife and son in a car accident about 3 yrs ago) by cleaning up and opening a local drive-in. This is where the two meet when Rachel's car brakes down for good and he finds them trespassing on his property. From the beginning the two don't see eye-to-eye ... she has a never back down attitude and he just wants to be left alone. Somehow she gets herself a job helping him clean up the drive-in with him. In doing so they become closer. Gabe helps her in find a temporary place to live (his grandmother's cottage) and without her knowledge makes sure she takes care of herself (since she was looking out for her son over her own well being).
However, except for a handful of people and majority of everyone in town believes Rachel is a really bad person. Because of that belief some towns people try to do things to her to either get her to leave town or just to get revenge for what they believe she has done. Gabe becomes her protector, and when her roommate moves out of the cottage he decides to move in with her.
Will Gabe get over his demons? Will the town ever accept Rachel and her son? Will Rachel ever find the missing money?
My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars!! This book was GREAT!!!!!! I LOVED Rachel & Gabe as a couple!! Plus, finding out what else happened for the Bonner family was icing on the cake! Then the cherry on top was the secondary story of Pastor Ethan (Gabe & Cal's younger brother) & Kristy. =0) If I gush any more then you'll know what will happen in the book so ... I just say .... GO READ IT!

My Book Summary : This is about Honey, the two man that loved her and how she loved them back...

- At six years old her mother kills herself leaving Honey to live with her aunt Sophie, her uncle Earl, and her cousin Chantal, a family who doesn't respect her and uses her to no end. The only good thing that came out of it was that it made her tough, since she was always looking little and years younger then her actual age, she learned to always take things on with your fists swinging and you usually will be able to make whatever you want happen.
That characteristic of hers helps since after her uncle passes away, at 15 or 16-years-old, she is left in charge of the amusement park that her family owns and lives at. However, when you still look young for your age, it's hard to have anyone take her seriously. Therefore, when times get tough on her family and the state shuts down the amusement park, Honey signs up her cousin for a beauty pageant where the grand prize is an audition in LA for a new show that is planning to air soon. As luck would have it, Chantal wins but shortly the grand prize changes and Honey does everything she can to not see there future go up in smoke, so she finds an old truck and drives her cousin across the country so she can audition.
Once they get there the audition people find Chantal very pretty but not right for the part, but Honey captures the eye of the main star Dash Coogan who does everything in his power to have her play his daughter for the TV show. And over night, her life completely changes ...

During the auditions he tells the producer to change the script so that Honey can play his daughter since she fits in a lot better then any of the other girls they were looking at.
Once the filming starts, however he goes from being nice to Honey to completely trying to avoid her. He has problems with having people get to close, which is why he admits that he has 3 ex-wives and children that he has never raised. However, Honey just wants a family and looking for one in all of the wrong places, like trying to get him to be her role model or her substitute father.
Therefore, when Honey starts getting out-of-hand on set a co-worker of theirs gets him to step-in and take control of the situation. Once he does, his life will never be the same...

Made the Grade: Chicago Stars Series, Book 3

My Book Summary : Dr. Jane Darlington really wants to have a baby, and on her birthday she makes up her mind to do just that. She plans on seducing Calvin (Cal) Bonner, the Chicago Stars' quarterback, to be her "sperm donor" ... since she wants to have a baby but it can't be just any man. The "sperm donor" type she has in mind won't be quick witted and the more she watches Cal on TV doing an interview she can't help but think she's choosing wisely, specially with that Southern drawl.
The seduction goes as planned .... and a while after she PREGNANT! YAY! But her plans change when someone spills her plans and her pregnancy to Cal and he is determined to be in his child's life ..... along with getting revenge for what she has done to him.
Now for the woman who just wanted a baby .... without having the "sperm donor" in the picture and wanting it without any legal, financial, or custody situation from Cal ..... she now finds herself in a mess of trouble, married to Cal so the baby won't be born legitimate (even though the plan is to divorce when the baby is born), and living with Cal in his hometown of Salvation, North Carolina.
What else could go wrong? How about finding out that Cal isn't as dim-witted as she suspected, so much so that he actually graduated college at the top grades. Or how about the fact that she has to make sure that everyone hates her so when they get a divorce no one will be sorry to see her go ....
What will she do to get through this mess??
My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars. I love this series! And by reading the description at first I wasn't sure I would like it. However, I was happily mistaken! "Nobody's Baby But Mine" was sweet, funny, fast paced, and just a plan ol' great read!! It definitely lived up to the mark of all of the other books in this series I've read!
