The Books I'm Thankful For (so far) in 2020
It is Thanksgiving Day (the USA version of it at least) today! The tradition on my blog is to post a list of ALL the books I've read thus far this year that I've given my highest ratings to (5 out of 5 stars) today, which means I'm VERY Thankful for finding/reading them!HOWEVER -- and it is a BIG HOWEVER -- this year has been hard for everyone. Myself included when it comes to promoting the books I have been reviewing. As if you look at my 2017 & 2018 Thankful Book Lists you'll see within my top write-up (like this one) that I say something along the lines of "because of life I have reviews but have yet to fully post them yet." This year is a LITTLE different because though ... that is still true ... my reviews ARE backlogged ... I had a catastrophe in March 2020 where I LOST ALL OF MY PREVIOUS REVIEWS. Yeah. If you want to hear ALL about it click here. BUT for 2020 specifically I was trying gather some "reading stats" for you, so out of those 19 books I know that 5 that I have no reviews for need to be on this list because I had rated them 5 out of 5 stars!
Yes this list is odd BUT other than the top three books within this list the others DO have reviews for them -- FULL REVIEWS COMING SOON -- so CHECK IT OUT! My Book Review : 4.5 out of 5 stars! Simon has been known as the Black Earl ever since he inherited his title and because of the peculiar situation that he was found in during his mistress’s death about 5 years ago. Yet, now that he has “been cleared” of any wrongdoing, his next goal is to obtain a wife in good standing to save his reputation and so he can get an heir. However, life has thrown Simon a lot of bad curveballs, will he consider Henrietta one of those bad ones or the best thing that has ever happened to him?This historical romance was unlike any I had read before … it was intense … it was sweet … it had a mystery that kept you guessing … yet in the end it was the biggest twist of all that sets it apart and makes it unique all on its own. So, if you want a historical romance read that will keep you guessing, than this is the novel for you!
However, even with all that boastfulness about this novel it was truly Simon and Henrietta that captivated me. I liked that they both have their own “issues” or personal “deformities” to overcome, since it showed how they surmounted everything to get together. In truth, though, they fit each other perfectly in the way they looked at the world and tried to unintentionally protect one another.
In addition, the ending was very special. So, overall, I highly recommend this novel!

My Book Summary : Tessa (Tess or Tessie) is on her way to London, from New York after her Aunt Harriet passed away, so she can live with her older brother. However, once she arrives her brother is no where to be seen, instead a bulging-eyed man and two unusually looking woman (sisters named Mrs. Dark and Mrs. Black) are there with a note from her brother saying to trust them and they'll bring her to him, and not long after Tessa finds that that is a mistake.
She has been with them for over six months now, told if she doesn't follow through with what they tell her to do then her brother would die. While being held captive, she learns things about herself that she has never known .... like she's not really a human, she is a Downworlder ... and the sisters that are holding her captive are forcing her to use her power, powers that she never knew she had and sometimes if feels like it kills her. Then one day the sisters tell her that they believe she is ready to meet the Magister (the leader of the sisters) as Tessa is his, and now she'll do anything to escape.
To Tessa's astonishment right after her hope to escape happens, a man (named Will) comes to her room to rescue her! Will is a Shadowhunter who has been keeping an eye on the sisters for a while now, that day he was secretly searching their "brothel" when he ran across Tessa, and now he tries to help her escape. Soon a fight brakes out in which Tessa gets injured and passes out.
When she comes to Tessa finds herself in an unknown place with people she doesn't know around her (one whom just by the look of him scares the hell out of her). Soon she finds out that she is staying at the Institute (the Shadowhunter's main building/home). Now she decides that she will help them as long as they help her find her missing brother. But during her time there, she'll find herself liking the Institute and the "people" in it more so everyday .... what will she do once this is all over? And will it ever BE over? Can she go back to her life before she learned that she's different or will she be forever changed? To top that all off ... will the Magister ever give up his quest to have her for himself??
My Book Review : 3.5 out of 5 stars! This story, being based in 1878, was sooo interesting to read how much things were different for them "back-in-the-day" compared to how the Shadowhunters and the Downworlders were living during the The Mortal Instruments Series. Plus ... the added bonus of trying to see whom is the ancestor of whom. This novel is everything that I could have hoped for ... and love triangle between Tessa and two great guys (and best friends) Will and Jem (James), along with mystery and then major plot twists at the end. And, so far, except for Tessa, everyone really isn't who they seem. I can't wait to see what will happen in the nest book called the "Clockwork Princess" coming out in 2012!!

Feasted On: Victoria and the Rogue by Meg Cabot

My Book Summary : Victoria has grown up with her three bachelor uncles in India ever since her parents died when she was very little. But now since she is sixteen they have shipped her off to live with her other aunt & uncle in England, and to find herself a husband. And even though her uncles made a wager as to how long it would take her to get a man to propose to her, she proves them all wrong by accepting a proposal while on the ship taking her to England!
Hugo is handsome and says the sweetest things to her ... and it doesn't hurt that he is a work-in-progress and needs her helping hand (and money) every once in a while (or more). But as she soon realizes that all might now be as it seems when it comes to her husband-to-be or his family. Especially since for a family who is on the decline (money wise), they surely do spend enough of it. Plus, it doesn't help that Captain Jacob Carstairs keeps telling her that Hugo is a rogue!!! Which just can't be! The Captain doesn't help any by always seeming to be around the corner or annoying Victoria by doing all sorts of things (especially when he calls her Miss Bee -- for being such a busy body). *sigh* What is a girl to do?
And then ..... maybe is this one situation where Victoria has it all wrong?
My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! CUTE & FUNNY to the extreme! Victoria and the Captain are so cute with their arguments. And I love how this is written like a first person passage but it goes into details that make it feel like the childhood stories I grew up with (but it's definitely a young adult book).

My Book Summary : This is a historic romance book that was set in a time period right after the American Civil War (also known as the War Between the States) happened. A time where the south was still smarting at being told what they could do with their property/possessions. Also, it was time where women had no rights unless they were single/spinsters.
For Kit (Katharine Louise) she was an eighteen-year-old girl from South Carolina, who has lost all of her family and just found out that a Mr. Baron Cain just got ownership of her family's plantation (Risen Glory). She is more tomboy then debutante. Also, she plans on killing Mr. Cain if it the last thing she does. So, she takes a train to New York City, finds Cain's residence, and plans on tracking his moves to find the best opportunity. However, she doesn't expect to get caught on her first night of hiding on his property by Cain himself! She decides to say she was looking for a job, and with her appearance -- looking like a fourteen-year-old boy, she gets hired as Cain's new stable boy.
Kit only has a week before she needs to leave so she tries to do what she told (for the most part), even if her mouth (with all the cussing, etc) gets away from her. But soon both of them are in for a shock -- Cain finds out that he's the owner of Risen Glory, that his stable boy is actually an eighteen-year-old girl with plans to murder him, but they both find that along with the plantation he has become the guardian of Kit until she turns 23 years old and can gain her inheritance or she marries (which she has no intention in ever doing).
So now instead of killing him, since Kit decides she just can't do that, she plans to do everything within her power to get her beloved home back from this handsome and dangerous man. What links will both of them go to keep their pride at all costs? Read to find out ...
My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars! I don't read many historical romances (or if I do most are set in England, not America), but for the setting I feel this book was very cute and true to that time period ... while sticking to how this author writes her stories best! I was kind of disappointed with how the characters played out the situations ... and the ending felt a little too rushed. But all in all since from what I've read this was the authors first books, I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of hers like I am! =0)
