They say that things just cannot grow beneath the winter snow

"Snowbound" by Janice Kay Johnson was such a disappointment. I picked it up from Amazon.com since they had it free if you had an iPod or a Kindle and it was on the top of the list for supposedly being so good. But ehhh. =0P

It's about a teacher who is driving back (in a snowstorm) from an out-of-town event with a group of her students (8 teens). They decided to take the quickest route back ... not knowing that that highway closes in the winter. Thankfully the route they took has a lodge on it. The owner of this lodge is a gentleman who just got discharged from the military, and is dealing with his own set of problems. During the teacher (and her group's) 3 night stay at the lodge waiting for the storm to let-up, the teacher and the owner build a connection ..... and they see if they can make it work afterwords.

I mean the setting was good and so was the plot/point of the story. But if I wanted to read about war scenes then I would have picked up a nonfiction or history type of book, not a romance. And even though the story was a short one, for how she dragged it out making so everyone was so indecisive .... I was just happy to see it end.

2 out of 5 stars.

Feasted On: Falling For Gracie by Susan Mallery

Format: Paperback | Pages: 347 | Release Date: reissue - January 2009 | Publisher: HQN Books

"Falling For Gracie" [Los Lobos Series, Book 2] by Susan Mallery

My Book Summary : When we're young, crushes usually come and go, but when Gracie was fourteen she tried to hold onto her crush by doing anything possible. She was upset that Riley never liked her or even was nice to her back (even though he was four years older then her), that she made his life a living hell, by sticking a skunk into his car to slipping diarrhea pills into his soup before the school dance.

Now fourteen years later she's finally back to the hometown where it all took place. Even though she's been over her crush for some time now (or so she thinks), her past antics have made her a legend and not one that she is proud of. Therefore, she's planning to do everything in her power to stay as far from Riley as possible. But it's hard to accomplish when people around her keep putting her into situations where they run into each other....

After talking a few times they, both realize that they have more in common then, either could have believed, and they become friends. However, with Riley running for Mayor, they find that some people in town will do anything to see both of their reputations ruined...

Will they make it through? And quite possibly become closer then either ever believed possible....

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars. Very cute, quite funny, and I loved Riley and Gracie! I breezed through this book not wanting to put it down until the end! I will admit that the ending was kind of corny but that still didn't ruin the book for me. =0)

My Previous Review(s) for this Author : Tempting | Accidentally Yours

Book Teaser :
"We can't do this, Gracie. I have rules and one of them says the women in question is easily forgotten. We both know you're not that."
She pressed her hands against his chest. "Are you referring to my stalker past? Haven't we talked about you letting that go?" ~ within Chapter 6

Someday we’ll know, If love can move a mountain ...

Can two people, who've grown up as sworn enemies, ever become something more? In "Comanche Moon" (part of the The Comanche Series) by Catherine Anderson is about a prophecy and how it brings these two people from opposing sides, Hunter of the Wolf and Loretta, together during 1860's life in Texas. Both have means to hate each other as both of their "people" have killed each others loved ones. But could that common difference actually bring them together or rip them apart even more?

3 out of 5 stars. It's definitely a telling story of those who lived during the Civil War time period. I mean everyone is just defending their own loved ones, the only problem is that (like what still happens now in any war) the ones who really get hurt and the ones that aren't even fighting in the war (the women and children). Very touching, and emotional. Good read. (However .... I think it dragged in a few areas ... still good though.)

For more information on this book, series, and/or other books from Catherine then please check out her website.

Firefighter vs Doctor

Out of all of her novels, "Just One of the Guys" by Kristan Higgins is by far one of her best!! This great romantic comedy, just made it so I couldn't put it down. Especially with lines like, "I'm being killed by my appetizer.", you just can't go wrong. I think most women at one time or another feel like 'just one of the guys', which is a good thing but not when your in love with one of those guy friends.

Which is what happens to Chastity. After moving back to her hometown, the books opens with her getting dumped and not in the most pleasant way either (even though it's never really pleasant). Getting back into the swing of things again, hanging out with her 4 older brothers with their co-worker buddies and such has it's benefits. However, she really would like to find her special someone. In doing so she can't help but still have her crush on one of her best guy friends, named Trevor, whom she has known since she was 10 yrs old and has practically been raised as another brother around her. Then there's a new handsome doctor in town that has caught her eye. And what would she do just to not be seen as just one of the guys ....

This book is one of my faves for Kristan Higgins, my other fave of hers is "Too Good To Be True." To find out more about this book or others of hers, then check out her website.

A Fixer Upper is RIGHT

This weekend I tried reading "The Fixer Upper" by Mary Kay Andrews. I mean the product description of it sounded so cute. It's about a girl named Dempsey, who is a lobbyist from Washington DC, and suddenly is thrown into a huge scandal and is pretty much thrown under the bus. So, her dad tells her about a family home that is in desperate need of repair that he just inherited, which he would like her to fix up since she has no prospects and he's not going to give her any money without working for it. So, she moves into this house and starts fixing it up ... finding a unique distant cousin along the way, a town where everyone knows your business, and some gentlemen who would like to get involved with Dempsey. However, she still cannot get to far away from the mess in DC.

I mean with that type of book ... what more can a girl ask for? But I was wrongly advised! *blah* I mean it sounded cute ... and at the beginning of the book it started out okay but I barreled on thinking and hoping it would get better. And I was sorely mistaken. =0( The book was slower then slow. Dempsey couldn't make up her mind and for someone who was supposed to have gone to law school ... I just thought the character would have been better. *shakes head* I give it 1 out of 5 stars.

However, you might have better luck then me reading it ... who knows? So, if you'd like to find out what others say about this book or find out more about Mary Kay Andrews' other books, then check out her website.

Made the Grade: Fools Gold Series, Book 1

Format: Paperback | Pages: 376 | Release Date: May 2010 | Publisher: HQN Books

"Chasing Perfect" [Fool's Gold Series, Book 1] by Susan Mallery

My Book Summary : Charity has been through one disaster of a relationship after the next, so when she is hired for a new job as the city planner she takes it and moves to Fools Gold. The town that is quaint, homey and nothing like the locations she grew up in. The only thing that takes a little time to get used to is that secrets are hard to keep, so everyone knows everyone else's business.

Josh has lived in Fools Gold since he was ten. Shortly after he moved there, his mother took off and the town took him in. Even though he has become a famous bike racer (and was the second youngest to win the Tour de France), his home has always been in Fools Gold and he seems to be able to do no wrong in the eyes of the town.

Charity appears to be able to get see the image behind the one that Josh portrays, finding out he isn't as perfect as he seems. However, maybe that she is exactly the person Josh needs ... someone who knows how much the value of not being perfect really is.

My Book Review : 3 out of 5 stars. This book was about two people who have been left or abandoned by those they loved in their past and are learning how to trust again. The town of Fools Gold is very well written, the characters are great, and it makes to wish you could visit the town yourself. However, the book was a little too predictable for you to really enjoy it.

My favorite characters in this book were Charity & Pia! Charity was a good leading lady. I really hope one of these Fools Gold series books will be about Pia getting a man or at least mention it in one of the secondary plots of a book, since she was a sweetie, it made me wish I could have her as a friend. =0)

My Previous Review(s) for this Author : Tempting | Accidentally Yours | Falling For Gracie

Book Teaser :
"My going out with him isn't about you," she told him.
"Never thought it was."
"I'm just saying."
"Right." Now he was pissed. "Have you kissed Robert? Because you sure as hell kissed me."
She stiffened, then looked around as if she didn't want anyone to hear.
"That was an accident," she said, her voice low and tense.
"Right. You fell into my arms and our mouths bumped."
Irritation flashed in her brown eyes. "You're not all that."
Truer words had never been spoken, he thought, then he grabbed her upper arms and drew her in those last few inches.
"Want to bet?" he asked, right before his mouth settled on hers. ~ within Chapter 8

Raised a bad girl, with the heart of a good girl

"Stealing Heaven" by Elizabeth Scott is a great book! It's about Dani who is 18 yrs old and has been a thief all of her life. It's basically the "family business," since her earliest memory is of her with her parents braking into a home when she was about 3 or 4 yrs old. The book starts off with things going good from a heist with her mom .... and they make plans on there next location. Once they get there, Dani finds that being invisible, like she normally tries to be, isn't as easy. Especially when locals are trying to befriend you. Soon she comes to a dilemma does she still want to live the life she's always known or live the life she's always wanted?!

This is my second favorite book so far of Elizabeth Scott's novels. To find out more about this book or others by checking out her Amazon Page.
