Feasted On: Honey Moon by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Format: Paperback | Pages: 440 | Release Date: June 1993 | Publisher: Pocket Books

"Honey Moon" by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

My Book Summary : This is about Honey, the two man that loved her and how she loved them back...
  • Honey :
    • At six years old her mother kills herself leaving Honey to live with her aunt Sophie, her uncle Earl, and her cousin Chantal, a family who doesn't respect her and uses her to no end. The only good thing that came out of it was that it made her tough, since she was always looking little and years younger then her actual age, she learned to always take things on with your fists swinging and you usually will be able to make whatever you want happen.

That characteristic of hers helps since after her uncle passes away, at 15 or 16-years-old, she is left in charge of the amusement park that her family owns and lives at. However, when you still look young for your age, it's hard to have anyone take her seriously. Therefore, when times get tough on her family and the state shuts down the amusement park, Honey signs up her cousin for a beauty pageant where the grand prize is an audition in LA for a new show that is planning to air soon. As luck would have it, Chantal wins but shortly the grand prize changes and Honey does everything she can to not see there future go up in smoke, so she finds an old truck and drives her cousin across the country so she can audition.

Once they get there the audition people find Chantal very pretty but not right for the part, but Honey captures the eye of the main star Dash Coogan who does everything in his power to have her play his daughter for the TV show. And over night, her life completely changes ...
  • Dash Coogan :
    • He is in his early 40's and a big-time Hollywood star (or should I say cowboy) with money troubles in the form of the IRS. So, to pay it off he agrees to make and be apart of The Dash Coogan Show even though it's against his better judgment. During the auditions he tells the producer to change the script so that Honey can play his daughter since she fits in a lot better then any of the other girls they were looking at.

Once the filming starts, however he goes from being nice to Honey to completely trying to avoid her. He has problems with having people get to close, which is why he admits that he has 3 ex-wives and children that he has never raised. However, Honey just wants a family and looking for one in all of the wrong places, like trying to get him to be her role model or her substitute father.

Therefore, when Honey starts getting out-of-hand on set a co-worker of theirs gets him to step-in and take control of the situation. Once he does, his life will never be the same...
  • Eric Dillon :
    • He's the bad boy co-star on the The Dash Coogan Show, and the crush of Honey's right off the bat. But Eric has a past that always seems to stop him from not being able to live his life, especially when he believes that anyone he considers an innocent will ultimately get hurt if he has anything to do with him. This goes on throughout his life, making him walk away from anything good or not really seeing the things/people who care about him. Honey just happens to be one of those innocents he was always talking about. When he meets her, he can tell by the look in her eyes that she has a crush on him, so he does everything in his power to be mean to her so she'll stay away from him.

As the years past, Honey and Eric's lives go in completely different directions but when they both seem to have hit rock bottom they manage to help pull each other through...
My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars! At first I wasn't sure what to make of this book but it really drew me in and I could get enough. I loved the relationship between Dash & Honey, just thinking about it makes me cry. Eric & Honey made a good couple too after all of the struggles they went through. It's a story about love, hope, friendship, and family. In addition, it's about what someone who had never grown up with almost any of that would do to keep the family she has together at all costs, and find out what real love is all about. Warning though at certain parts of the book I cried like a baby so you might too.

My Previous Review(s) for this Author : Ain't She Sweet | What I Did for Love | Nobody's Baby But Mine

Book Teaser(s) :
He spoke softly, still not looking at her. "You really mean it, don't you?"
"I really mean it."
He gazed at her, and even though he cleared his throat, his voice was husky with emotion. "You're the damnedest, most aggravating female I've ever met."
At first she thought it was a trick of the firelight, but then she knew it was no trick at all. Dash Coogan has tears in his eyes. ~ within Chapter 18

When I think of this book which song do I think goes with it? : Looking For Love by Johnny Lee

This paranoia is distressing. But I spend most of my night guessing. Are we not, are we together? Will this make our lives much better?

Pages: 443 | Release Date: September 2007

"Divine By Blood" [Divine Series, Book 3] / [Partholon Series, Book 3] by P. C. Cast -- Morrigan’s life has been riddled with things around her that if she told her friends that might just think she was crazy; like the fact that she hears whimpers in the wind or how she is able to create a small spark in her hands. Since both her parents are dead, her grandparents, who have always believed in her and her uniqueness, raised her.

The day her friends and her decide to hangout together at the Oklahoma Alabaster Caves before they head off to college, Morrigan’s life abruptly changes. She realizes that she is more comfortable inside the caves then outside, when touching the rock wall or any of the stones she knows that they talk to her, and if she leaves her hands on them for a while she can even make the stones/wall glow! Once she goes home to her grandparents to explain what happened within the caves, they choose to finally tell her everything about her parents and who she really is (her mother is really a priestess from another world, who also made a lot of bad mistakes). Which leads to an argument between them and when Morrigan leaves the house, she finds herself drawn back to the caves. Once there again, she taps more into her new-found power, a cave-in happens, and suddenly she discovers she’s being sucked into the stone and ultimately the other world / her mother’s world.

Once there Morrigan tries to learn of the place around her and fit in, but that can be hard to do when she really has never seemed to fit in anywhere. Then there is the slight problem of her looking exactly like on of the High Priestess’s daughter who recently died. Or the fact that the whispers are growing stronger and if she listens to them it could be the destruction of those she loves around her, along with everything else.

3.5 out of 5 stars. It could be because this is the first book out of this series that I’ve read, even though Ms. Cast has stated that she’s made each novel from this series able to stand alone if need-be, but if I hadn’t liked the House of Night series so much I would have probably stopped this book without finishing it. I say that since the book is divided into parts and the prologue and the first part/section I had to force myself through it was so slow. But thankfully, the middle section I loved!! The ending made me cry but I like how it all got wrapped up, yet it was so good I now want more about the main characters (i.e. Morrigan & Kegan) – but since it was the last in this series it seems unlikely that I’ll get that wish.

This is what you get. This is who I am. Take me now or leave me, any way you can.

Pages: 355 | Release Date: August 2009

"Sleepless In Scotland" [MacLean Curse Series, Book 4] by Karen Hawkins -- Living in 1811 and being in London's High Society, have its consequences if you do not keep up decorum. This is what happens to Caitriona and Hugh when they try saving their siblings from themselves, however instead their plans backfire. Then they find themselves in compromising positions (at least for 1811), and since other people become aware of the situation they ended up in, the two are forced to marry each other.

Even though both do not want to marry each other, Caitriona tries to make the best of it, while Hugh tries to keep her from being as involved in his life as much as he can – especially when that means anything to with his daughters. Now with only a few months together (per Hugh’s “order”), so Caitriona can rebuild her reputation then move back into her family’s home, she has put up with the family she married into, that seems to not want her there, while trying to make them realize she is exactly what they needed. Will she succeed before it’s too late?

4 out of 5 stars. It's the first time I've read a book from this series and if this book is any estimation of the whole series then I would definitely recommend it to all of you! It was sweet, funny, and a great historical romance!!

Disappointmentville: Strange Angels series, Book 1

Format: Paperback | Pages: 293 | Release Date: May 2009 | Publisher: Razorbill

"Strange Angels" [Strange Angels Series, Book 1] by Lilith Saintcrow

My Book Summary: Dru has been hunting bad "creatures" with her father, ever since he came back to get her after her grandmother died. It helps that she has psychic abilities (or what her grandmother called "the touch") to help him out, but since she's only 16 yrs old he doesn't bring her to all of huntings. However, after one such hunting that he told her she couldn't attend, he doesn't come home, and when he finally does he is no longer himself anymore.

Now Dru has to look out for herself and she's scared out of her wits as to where she can go and who she can trust. Thankfully her friend Graves, who recently got turned into a werwulf, won't take no for an answer when it comes to helping her out at any cost.

Still, what will she do to find the person to changed her father? And once she does find that person, will Dru be able to get her revenge or will she suffer the same fate as her dad?

If you can't see/watch the above video then click here to watch it.

My Book Review: 2.5 out of 5 stars. It was ok ... but not as good as I would have hoped. =0P When there were action scenes I was really able to stay interested and I liked the book. However, there were way to many slow scenes in between that I wasn't sure if I would have been able to finish the book. Meaning for some parts I really had to force myself to see how it ended. Hopefully "Jealousy", aka Book 2, is better.

Feasted On: Falling for Romeo by Jennifer Laurens

Format: Paperback | Pages: 197 | Release Date: Second Edition - 2009 | Publisher: Grove Creek Publishing

"Falling for Romeo" by Jennifer Laurens

My Book Summary : Jennifer and John grew up together. Their parents are friends. Also, they are next-door neighbors with bedroom windows parallel to each other. So, it would be hard not to become friends as well. And they were up until three years ago, which is when they both seemed to drift apart from each other.

Now they are in their senior year of high school, working together as Romeo & Juliet in their school’s play, and finding out who they have become since then.

It’s not like they haven’t talked in school. Oh no, they’ve talked. Mostly during English class when they are debating whatever that day’s discussion topic is, they get into very specific arguments because of them, but they don’t really talk any more than that.

Since they were friends, John has become Mr. Popular. He has hordes of girls wanting to be his girlfriend and just people wanting to follow whatever he says. While Jennifer isn’t quite the social butterfly, but she’s pretty, sweet, and has friends who are on the popular side of the social scene. However, she is mostly involved in the theater productions at her school (has been since middle school) and loves it.

Therefore, when their school’s performance came up Jennifer definitely planned on being involved, but for John, he auditioned just so he could get close to Jennifer again. =0)

Things are okay between them for a while, until the rehearsal kissing scenes start up. Which is where they both realize (and kind of deny to themselves) their feelings for one another. But with each one not brave enough to set aside their own pride to admit their feelings, they have a hard time believing if the chemistry they have on stage is real or is it faked?

Will they be able to find out before the play is over and their lives go in different directions again?

My Book Review : 4 out of 5 stars!!! I LOVED the chemistry between Jen & John!! Plus, finding out how close they were growing up it is kind of surprising they ever stopped being friends, but it does happen. You will be routing for them the whole way! I couldn't put it down. Great Book!!

Book Teaser(s) :
"What?" he demanded.
She echoed him, "What?"
"What!"
"I can't believe you did that---in front of all those people!"
"What makes that any different than what you just did with Alex in front of all those people?"
"He kissed me, for your information!"
"I saw it!"
"Then do you need your eyes examined? He kissed me." ~ within Chapter 9

Disappointmentville: The Wedding Girl by Madeleine Wickham [aka Sophie Kinsella]

Format: Hardcover | Pages: 327 | Release Date: June 2009 | Publisher: Thomas Dunne Books

"The Wedding Girl" by Madeleine Wickham (aka Sophie Kinsella)

My Book Summary : This novel documents the view points of seven different people through four days, based around a wedding that's supposed to happen when the four days are up and the secrets that come to life around them.

It is centered around Milly and Simon, with their wedding only a few days away. They seem perfect for each other to everyone who sees them, but Milly has never been truthful to Simon or anyone enough to let them know that she got married ten years earlier and she doesn't think she's divorced. Opps!

So, when a boy (now grown up) that saw her (and has photos of her) first wedding shows up as her photographer for her current wedding, she gets scared that the truth will come out. At first she plans to hide it, then she decides to take fate in her own hands and track down her current husband to see if they are divorced or not. Without letting her secret slip to Simon or her parents.

However, Milly is not the only one who is keeping secrets of her own or is having troubles in her life .... Simon has never been close to his father and always lived in his shadow, and because of that he has always tried to best him either in the business world or if not that then to have the perfect relationship. Isobel (Milly's older sister) is what the family calls a 'career woman' and is starting to hate it, but also just found out a new secret of her own that makes her rethink her life. Olivia and James (Milly's parents) are having relationship issues and who knows where they'll end up. Then there is Rupert, who was the boyfriend of Milly's current husband when she married him. In addition, he is the only person she can think of that would know where to find her husband, but he has secrets all of his own that he's been keeping from his family and himself for so long he wants nothing to do with Milly just so they will all stay in his past.

Once all of these secrets come out in the open .... will everything work out for the best or will things take a turn for the worst?

My Book Review : 2.5 out of 5 stars. *sigh* This was my first time reading a 'Madeleine Wickham' novel, and since I have read all of her as 'Sophie Kinsella’, I thought these would be just as good. But I don't know ... I guess the way some of the characters decided take care of their secrets just rubbed me the wrong way or something, since I had to skim through some of the chapters just to keep reading, if I didn't skim through I would probably have stopped reading the book altogether. I will say I did like the ending and how the characters finally resolved their issues, and I loved the letter that Rupert read it was very sweet. In addition, I did like the fact that this book was about how to grow up and come to turns with who you truly are as a person, and once you do to stick by what you believe in. Therefore, it had a good message but the plot was a little boring and irritating for me ...

Book Teaser(s) :
"Great," said Isobel. "Well, get dialling!"
"OK," said Milly, taking a deep breath. "Let's see if we've got the right number."
I should have done this before, she thought guiltily, as she picked up the phone. I could have done this any time. But even as she dialled, she felt a painful dismay at what she was being forced to do. She didn't want to speak to Rupert. She didn't want to speak to Allan. She wanted to forget the bastards had ever existed; wipe them out of her memory. ~ within Chapter 5

"Waiting On" Wednesday: Glimmerglass

  • Today's "Waiting On" Wednesday by Jill - click here

  • "Glimmerglass" [Faeriewalker, Book 1] by Jenna Black
Publication Released Date: May 25, 2010

    Book Description:
Dana Hathaway doesn't know it yet, but she's in big trouble. When her alcoholic mom shows up at her voice recital drunk, again, Dana decides she’s had enough and runs away to find her mysterious father in Avalon: the only place on Earth where the regular, everyday world and the captivating, magical world of Faerie intersect. But from the moment Dana sets foot in Avalon, everything goes wrong, for it turns out she isn't just an ordinary teenage girl—she's a Faeriewalker, a rare individual who can travel between both worlds, and the only person who can bring magic into the human world and technology into Faerie.

Soon, Dana finds herself tangled up in a cutthroat game of Fae politics. Someone's trying to kill her, and everyone seems to want something from her, from her newfound friends and family to Ethan, the hot Fae guy Dana figures she’ll never have a chance with... until she does. Caught between two worlds, Dana isn’t sure where she’ll ever fit in and who can be trusted, not to mention if her world will ever be normal again...

There's seems to be a lot of books like this coming out lately, like "The Iron King", but it definitely interests me to see the different take on this type of thing. Especially to get into another type of faerie world! =0)
